One liar. One murderer. One victim. This is a New Year’s Eve no one will ever forget.
Sven Magnusson has made many mistakes in his life, but marrying his new wife is not one of them. At last he has found that elusive thing – true love. Yet, something strange is going on. His wife is not everything she seems and a chance encounter with an old flame leads to complicated emotions.
But worse is to come. Death is in the air and someone is making a fool out of them all by keeping dangerous secrets. When Mrs Magnusson goes missing, it seems innocent enough, but could tragedy be about to strike?
As Colonel Bainbridge tries to solve a crime that seems to have no rhyme or reason, his niece Victoria finds herself confronting her past and beginning to wonder if everything she once thought true was really a lie.
How do you solve a murder when you are blinded by your emotions?
The preceding couple of novels seemed better, although modern terminology and ideology do keep rearing their head and taking away from the period settings. This one seems a little bit harder work to believe, and the investigation seems more like crashing around accusing people and coming up with wild theories... so not the most enjoyable of the series
This was a tad confusing or at least it was for Bainbridge, Victoria and Inspector Dougal. For those of us looking on (by that I mean me) it quickly became a bit obvious just who was involved. Though I did not know the reason and I'll be honest, I never guessed it either. But then neither did anyone else! Not even the Colonel.
