Things haven't been easy for June. Her best friend is gone forever, she has little control over her emotions, and her family thinks she’s lost it. That's enough to be dealing with already, but one more challenge tacks itself onto the list: an infuriating classmate who seems hellbent on making her life difficult.
Oli is stressed out. Perpetually, it seems. His father thinks he's a disappointment, his friends are utterly lost in life, and he's constantly drowning in obligations. When whiskey and food aren't enough to keep his thoughts at bay, he finds a better distraction: bugging the girl who sits next to him in history.
As the top two know-it-alls in class, there's no question as to why they've been paired up to work together on a final project that must be perfect.
Conducting research, drafting an essay, and creating a presentation? Easy.
Not ripping each other’s heads off in the process? Next to impossible.
*This is book 2 of the Chasing Feelings Series, a series of interconnected contemporary romance books about elder emos, small-town pop punk kids, and metalheads. It is not necessary to read book 1 before reading this book, though it may help you get acquainted with some of the characters.*
Ali Hidalgo is a small-town kid turned big-city homebody. She spends most days writing about her little romantic fantasies and clinging to her youth, and others reading works from her favorite authors, drinking coffee, and getting home at a reasonable time. Music, sweets, and friends who just get it are amongst her favorite things. The most important thing you should know about her is that she’s very, very grateful that you’ve taken the time to be here. If you're into fun, cute, in-it-for-the-banter-and-romance type reads, consider sticking around!
I thought I was going to be a Jonah girl forever....That was until I got Oli. I quite literally feel like this book is written about my husband..... Enough about that though. An enemies to lovers trope that is absolutely perfect. A realistic look at trying to get through life while experiencing grief. A character with an eating disorder that is actually written realistically... Ali Hidalgo is my lord and savior and I will not back down on that statement. Once again, perfection, no notes. I read both of these books in less than 12 hours and now I desperately need a Noah/Tiff love story THXXXX.
Oli & June are academic rivals with brewing sexual tension. They hate each other each with there own issues they have to over come. June is an outcast and dealing with the loss of her best friend and Oli is dealing with his family they come together and they both come out of there shells
So I loved their relationship since The Bubbling Feeling, book 1 in this series. It was great to see their relationship background and understanding how they got to where they were in the first book.
It was funny! I loved June and Oli's relationship in the beginning of their relationship. There were times I really wanted to tell her "girl, chill tf out! Not everyone wants to fight". But that's kind of the point of her character I guess. With her story, you understand why she is that way. And same thing goes for Oli. You learn about him, so you understand why he is the way he is.
And Jonah!!! My God! I had to go back to TBF to check how far he came because my good GAWD! That boy was a mess. I'm glad that got sorted out.
🎓 Academic Rivals to Lovers 🎓 Dual POV 🎓 Metalcore, Sweetheart MMC 🎓 Fiery, Closed Off FMC
I wanna start off by saying thank you so much to Ali Hidalgo for giving me the opportunity to read this book, she is the sweetest author and i am honestly so in love with her books (maybe a little with her too 🤣)
If you are planning to read this book please go and read The Bubbling Feeling first, you will fall in love with Kai and Jonah just like i did (Jojo is the love of my life *swoon*) honestly Ali keeps writing characters for me to fall in love with and it just isnt fair.
So June or Juni as Oli calls her, mainly to irritate June, is our very closed off, very fiesty FMC who finds a healthy rivalry with our metalhead, sweetheart Oli. Oli is a perfectionist and has a heart of gold, always trying to plan everything to make sure he disappoints no one and taking care of those he loves the most, everyone but himself. June feels lost, alone, she doesn't want to be but she just doesn't know where she fits in or if she can truly be herself with anyone anymore. That is until she finds Oli and slowly she starts to realise that within him and his small friend group, she could really belong and she would be their missing piece too. Little did Oli know that June was going to turn his world upside down right from the start and by the end he would be the happiest he'd ever been. There were so many bumps, personal growth and heart ache but i enjoyed every second of reading how these two could change the meaning of I Hate You.
You know, I was fully prepared to be a Jonah girlie for life. Like I made my peace with that. I was happy with that. But then gotdamn OLIVER AWAD entered the chat. With his stupid flannel and his stupid metalcore band tees and his stupid beard and his stupid dirty mouth and his stupid gentle hands and now I’m 1000000% an Oli girlie. I’m sorry Jonah, I love you but I could not resist the charms of Mr “You Look So Pretty When You Beg”. And now I’m down bad. Oli got it. Whatever “It” is… Oli got it. CALLING ALL EMO KIDS AND METAL HEADS. . THIS ONES FOR YOU. June is so sassy so fierce so strong and I admire everything she is and everything she stands for. Her grieving and healing journey spoke volumes to me, as someone going through grief right now this was so heartwarming and healing and so beautifully written. AND HER MOSHPIT SCENE OMFG LOVE. I loved the banter and the bickering. I loved the friendship blossoming between June and Jonah. I loved the characters and everything they stand for. And we know that we STAN a book with incredible mental health rep. This was it. It had everything I wanted and needed and more. Give it a go. You won’t regret it.
She draws me in with each and every book of hers! I adore her and every word she writes.
While I think Kai and Jonah will always have my heart I have to admit that I completely adore June and Oli!
God I don’t think Ali will ever write a book I don’t love.
That Infuriating Feeling really covered some dark themes involving metal health, eating disorders, familial issues, lose of a loved one and more but I feel as if Ali executed them in a way that made you understand and feel as the characters felt. I felt for Oli and I felt for June. I felt for Jonah and I felt for Aaron in the bonus chapter. Ali just does such an amazing job at making us understand the characters and that us something I completely admire.
There were sad moments throughout but also such amazing connections and love. LOVE.
The banter was immaculate as always. And I smiled and laughed along with the characters.
Ughhhh!! I could gush forever about how much I love Ali and her stories but I’m trying to keep this semi unlenghty haha!
We are back at college and get front row seats to the great Oli and June debate. I loved being able to fill in the blanks about their relationship from that bubbling feeling. These two just prove there is indeed a fine line between hate and lust.
This book was pretty great!! It was written better than the first, and the story felt seamless. Though there were some awkward situations where it felt like a stretch, it was still a fairly good book! And the spicy scenes were definitely steamy.
After getting a glimpse of Oliver and June in That Bubbling Feeling we finally get their love story.
Both a little awkward, their first encounter started out with back and forth banter during a class discussion. After being assigned partners for a project they start spending more time together and it starts to become harder to deny their attraction to one another.
The angst, banter and build up between the two 🤌🏼🤌🏼 June really has no one and when introduced to Oli’s friend group she blends in perfectly. It’s beautiful being apart of their story and seeing how Oli finally helps break down June’s massive walls. They are so freaking adorable and a whole lot of hot 🥵.
I loved reading this book. The tension between the MMC and FMC was great. The mental health issues were portrayed well and I loved watching them evolve. Go get this when you can it will not disappoint.
