If only PrimRose “Prim” Jordan could take her own advice. Circumstances and life events have her living under a cloak of secrecy and deceit that she doesn’t see herself ever coming from under. The weight is not only heavy on her, but it sometimes falls heavier on her son. What will it take for her to stick her head out from under this cloak? The real question that needs to be answered is whether removing the cloak is worth the mania.
Siar McKinney is the man with the plan. His plan is to live a happy, stress-free life loving the people in it. A plan wouldn’t be a plan without a curve ball or two. The curve ball pitched is a beautifully cloaked woman. Will the cloak be too heavy for him to remove? Will he be prepared for what is uncovered once it’s removed?
Love can be a mania by itself without all the other added foolishness of life. Will these two find a way to ride out the mania or will it completely engulf them? Once the cloak is pulled back, will they both be able to handle what comes with it
You’re invited to join the crew to see just where the Mania of Love takes us. Welcome to the Mania Crew.

I really enjoyed this one. I was thinking Prim had lost her mind. Siar had made me upset with him. He came around. I loved Vi and Dyrti. There were some horrible characters that I don't even type their names.
Another perfect book! This book is most assuredly in my top 10 favs of 2024! For her 50th release, Mel Dau gave us one of my now top five books from her catalog. Prim and Siar's love story was definitely a rollercoaster ride that gave so many twists, turns, highs, and lows! This book starts off with foolishness. The things Prim had to live through started to show from page one. I have never witnessed so many curveballs in one book. This couple's love for each other was strong, but their forgiveness was stronger. The storyline was on point—informative while still hilarious. The romance and sex were top-tier, but the dialogue was everything! Siar was definitely Zaddy, and I was jealous of Prim😂 the way that man loved her and supported her mania was beautiful. Now, my girl Prim had me tired, but I couldn’t help but love her. I wish everyone with her disorder had her support system because Grif was not playing behind his mama! I really want to hear from the Mania Crew in the future because I need updates!
This book went from 0-100. I don't even know where to start....
Primrose was dumb.....
Finding out on your wedding day your husband is gay is one thing but for you to stay in this "marriage" for 6 years???
I really didn't understand how/why Primrose stayed in this arrangement for so long. She put her and her son's mental health at stake for what?? So instead of stacking your money and getting proof you did......nothing and kept playing along all the while being disrespected.
I would have been recording every "family' get togethers.
The mental health issue came out of nowhere. So now we have homophobia, transphobia, racism and mental health. This is one of the most chaotic books I have read this year. My thoughts can't even get it together after reading this.
There was too much going on and none of it made sense.
Your son has been acting out because you are making him be part of this ridiculous lie. You continue to stay in a relationship with a group of people who do nothing but disrespect you. Your mother in law and your husbands lover call you every racist name in the book.
Primrose only decides to leave the relationship because a Siar didn't want to be with her. But your son who has been living this lie with you and also taking care of you mentally didn't have that same affect? Hope the son has a great therapist.
Why didn't Primrose have any money if the "husband' was paying for the mortgage and all utilities???
The mental illness came out of nowhere. I went back a couple of chapters to see if I missed something.
I was confused at the ending. It was just thrown all together. this story should have been thrown away. sorry.
I’ve got to be honest. This book was terrible, downright bad. I used to a huge fan of her work, but lately every book has been a flop. This book had blatant homophobia and the over the top racism (although purposeful) was just stupid. Prim was just silly to me. You’re a social worker but don’t know why your son is acting out even though his whole life is essentially a sham? You haven’t saved any money in the six years you’ve been part of this sham? You didn’t know you weren’t legally married? The BPD came out of nowhere, all of sudden her spiteful husband brings it up and now it’s a major part of the storyline. It also seemed to be written just as bad as everything else. Maybe do some research on things next time. I just didn’t get it. Also, pretty much all the erotica scenes were so extra and not well written at all. Also, the suicides were so random. Neither of those characters seemed the type and it feels written in just so the author could have a clean wrap up.
Oh my gosh this was quite a read. Firstly these prologues that mill dow rights are just perfect... I literally never know what I'm going to get, And that was no different in this story. Primrose my girl was going through it, Not to mention dealing with a bipolar disorder. I just love the representation, And the realistic connection in the story. Let me just say I could not live in primroses shoes because to be a black woman to be plus size and then marry into A racist bigot family, Yeah buddy it couldn't have been me. Cause all of them vanilla milkshake could catch hands at any moment. When I tell you Margie Jason and galeton deserved a special place in hell. Now I know Jason and galeton you know, What they say about karma so yeah there's that. And I wish that I even felt bad about it but it's like when you are terrible to someone I feel like terrible things happen and tenfold back. So it is what it is. Now miss Margie I kick her a** because that won't that b**** oh, That 1 right there I would have been in jail after I woke to a** and maybe send to the afterlife. I loved sire with Bay sire was Bay, I even understood you know why he took a step back from primrose after she lied. Though she was trying to rectify it and he was being dumb, I understood why he did what he did. Especially since he found out that she was bipolar like you have to really decide for yourself relationship wise are you prepared to really be there for that person is that the person that you truly want to be with for the rest of your life and loveUnconditional through the ups ended the Downs. And the fact that he was willing to do that made me smile. I love the banter and the openness that they had about everything, Sense of community primrose had around her to support her and also them supporting each other was phenomenal. I love Griffin he was too cute he was such a cute little kid and he really took up for his mom, I was happy he wasn't super traumatized by everything. This book was truly a 10 out of 10 highly recommended.
There is absolutely nothing funny about mental illness or bipolar disorder. But darn if some of these manic rides weren't hilarious to read.
This book starts off a lil "meh" but stick with it because you will definitely see what the hype is about!
All I can say is that I was not ready for the mania roller-coaster ride that this book took me on. I laughed. I cried. I "OMG, are they for real"!!
I felt like an empath because the writer made me feel all of the characters.
My heart broke 💔 for little Griff and his love and protection of his mother.
Vi's heart, care, and exhaustion over her sister/friend.
Siar , Sair, Sair! Prim drove him mad. but when he got out hid his own way and she allowed him to lead, that man was a force to be reckoned with.
PrimRose - that baby took and took and took and kept trying to push through until she broke 😩. Between her selfish ex-husband, Her ex-boyfriend giving her the cold shoulder and her life spiraling out of control. It was only a matter of time before she fell to pieces, and I felt every moment of it.
Wow! This book was very well written and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Prim needed the love Siar had to give her and Griffin. She was in an almost impossible situation of staying married to Jason and having to guard his secrets. I’m not sure I could have done the same for so long, but she did what she felt was necessary. I wish both Jason and Prim would have recognized how their secrets were affecting Griffin and ended things before they escalated. Siar was a man who loved Prim and Griffin and wanted the best for them from the start and I loved that for them. Jason and his mama were a piece of work especially with their racism and how they treated Prim. It was sad to see how secrets destroyed so many lives. This book showed the importance of living your truth to have a sense of freedom and peace. I also liked how this author highlighted and wrote about the manias of bipolar disorder and showing how they affect the person and their loved ones. This was a very good read that I would recommend.
I read a couple of reviews on this book and some of them were pretty nasty about the content in this book, and that peaked my interest even more!!!… I love that this author is not afraid to spk on topics that many are afraid to touch and express the things that we encounter in everyday life!!!… The discrimination and bigotry as described in this book is real for many ppl!!!.. The homosexual/homophobia that is expressed spk volumes to what many ppl experience amongst their families and friends!!!… I love how Vi was so protective of her friend and her godson!!!…Vi and Dyrti were so funny and definitely were supportive!!!… Jason’s mom was so worried about an image that she was willing to sacrifice her son to make it appear they were the well put together family!!!… I was so happy that Siar was there for PrimRose and was making sure she was cared for and protected mentally!!!…I love that he stepped in and made sure that Griffin can stop worrying about his mother!!!… Those son’s are definitely protectors of their mothers!!!…
If I didn’t tap into every dam emotion…Prim And Vi had a friendship tighter than fresh box braids they had each other since 10 years old and here comes Jason and his secret that threw a curve ball..but what would you do in that situation….hurt people hurt people and Jason and especially Gale took theirs out on Prim but here comes Siar who love was real who loved her and griffin unconditionally making her realize she could go through ridding herself of Jason but change ain’t always easy the things…Prim went through with Gale, Jason and his momma Margie who was homophobic and racist how can you hate me but love my child ain’t know way… I love that the couple was in their mid to late thirties,,,,,this deals with so much racism homophobia and mental health but written so well….job well done
Jason was destined for the demise he ended with from the beginning. Allowing his mother to dictate his life instead of being happy was only making him miserable. Margie was unhappy and wanted to ruin someone else's life. PrimRose did right to remove herself from the equation. Even with her illness, her son was her first priority. Griffin was a very intelligent kid that understood more than most his age due to what he'd witnessed. Siar came into their lives at the right time. He helped them through so many things. Him loving Prim, through her manic stages, was so beautiful. It took a strong man to handle all of her, and he was that man. Vi was a great friend at all costs. She went above and beyond. As well as Siar's family. This entire book was unbelievably awesome! Job well done! 👏🏽
WHEW!!!!! This book will forever have a place in my heart and I will own a physical copy of it. Prim Rose, you are a better woman than me because I’m just wedding day I would have left him if I knew what you knew when it came to light. You were so beautiful and strong despite everything. Siar was perfect for you, I honestly wish you honest from the beginning with him but I understand why you weren’t. I loved how that man didn’t play about you. Those episodes, the highs and the lows, the impulsiveness and life in general was too much at once. Watching you heal and but be back was everything. When Siar dropped that bomb about you I was shocked and so happy that you were free. Jason was a sorry ssa FB. I’m glad your son was able to finally be a son and you both got your HEA.
I must say this book was quite a ride. And it let me see a different side of the mental health coin. While I have interacted with various people, even family with the disorder, I never really looked at all that’s required to truly deal with and love them. Now Prim was a lot and I doubt I could ever accept her situation for Jason especially not when she saw how it was effecting her child, because Margie would have caught hands (and feet) several times. Violet was a real tried and true, through thick or thin friend. Everyone needs a rider like that. Siar was a man of his word though, so to see him support and love her through literal madness definitely granted him the head book bae title.
I have read a lot of books by Mel Dau, and I’ve loved them all, but The Mania of Love really is probably moved War out my number one book by her ! Let’s start by saying she will edges in her hands before you hit chapter one!! By the end of the book, your edges are gone, your mascara is ruined, and your heart is full!! Prim Rose is a character you may not totally relate to her. But the feeling of insecurity, inadequacy, and abandonment are all feelings we have all felt at some point. Siar is the kind of man you wish existed in real life . The Mania of Love is definitely in my top 10 this year!!
I don’t understand why she chose to put so much transphobia and homophobia in this book.
The thing I never got over for this story is how PrimRose stayed in an arrangement with her husband for six years. Her son began acting out because of said arrangement, but she never thought to end it. But weeks after Siar ends their relationship, she finally ends her deal with her husband. Not for herself or her son, but for a man. She also had a job and her husband was paying her bills. Why did she not have any money? It’s the thread that unravels everything if you pull too much.
This just really did not work for me. Also please pause with the AI covers.
Another great one by Mel Dau This author always writes poignant stories that captures your attention and doesn’t let you go This one has our female lead either a mental disorder of bipolar which costs her to have mania episodes but that’s not the drama of the story It’s complicated but intriguing The male lead is a true alpha and someone you want to have in your corner and love you unconditionally which he does The supporting characters are wonderfully and the storyline just flows nicely till the last episode You will not regret reading this story it deserves 10 stars
It’s been a minute since I did a review but I have to scream about how wonderful this one is! I have never read an author who brings a theme to life so well that you feel every emotion that it was written with. I really want to tell about the book because the story has such substance but… you really just gotta read it. To show how someone can live and thrive with certain conditions that everyone else can’t understand… Ms. Mel Dau step to the front and take a bow!!! 🙌🏾 #transparencyneededandappreciated
This was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. PrimRose was stronger than I ever could be. Battling a mental disorder while coparenting with your the husband from hades was A LOT! Poor Griffin was just too young to deal with a lot of what his parents allowed. I’m glad that Siar came into their lives because whew did they need the reprieve. Vi and Dyrti were the best friends that everyone needs because they were so supportive. Jason was trash, but his mom and Galeton were the gutter. Just pitiful and racist.
I love a story that educates & has some humor. Prim is on a loveless marriage with a son (Griff) who starts to act out. After another altercation at school Griff is suspended but the principal provides Prim with information for a youth program. One of the owners is Mr. Siar McKinney. This begins a story of love, family, learning to trust and be comfortable or accepted for who you are. Buuutt there is also lies, betrayal and a overbearing & nasty women who life is terrible from the beginning of the book.
Siar!!!!!!!! Baby he rode that roller coaster of Mania with PrimRose!!
PrimRose was diagnosed as bipolar. But honestly that was the least of the drama where she was concerned!! She had been playing the beard to her husband for six years after hearing him profess his love to his best friend at their wedding reception.
When she runs into Siar while trying to get her son into an after school program her whole life changed!!!
This story went a lot of places. From the beard to the new relationship while being married to manic episodes and schemes. It was a lot. I genuinely believe that Prim was a mess. She had a good amount of years to stack money and leave that situation especially seeing how it impacted her son. Then to get in a relationship with Siar and continue with the whole Jordan thing was crazy. Then the drama with the divorce and racist mother in law was a lot. This was an a lot story.
I absolutely loved this book!! Mel Dau is one of my favorite authors and her work is absolutely incredible!!
If you are looking for a love story with a lot of twist and turns then this book is definitely for you. Rose and Sire’s story started when they met because her son got into trouble but then they met again when their best friends Violet and Dyrti invited them out so they could met the person they were dating. It was lust at first sight which turned into so much more.
Mania of Love is definitely a must read, so add it to your TBR!!
I have never related more then I did to this book. My heart broke for Prim and for Gale. I love the aspect of showing a son having to take care of his mother and his friend supporting him. Vi was definitely that ride or die friend and she was here for the ….. . I definitely have to say Mel Dau doesn’t miss and this is proof.
Loved it!! Siar was all in with Prim and Griff. How he hung on thru her mania rollercoaster was all ❤️ love. He took time to learn how to support her. He did not play about his Prim and he gave Jason all the big money smoke😂😂
Jason and his bald headed mammy were trash🗑️🤬.
I hate how poor Gale met his/her demise🥲.
What are you waiting on? Grab this 📚 book, you are sure to 🤣 laugh, cry 😭 and ride the mania 🎢 rollercoaster!!!
This story was a wild ride! I cackled and screamed throughout. I loved how this book shed light on the realness of mental health. The ending……WHEW THAT ENDING. LORDT! Talk about getting a lick back. Siar made sure Prim got her reparations for all that foolery for sure. I would recommend adding trigger warnings to this story for readers that may be more sensitive to others regarding certain subjects.
I truly enjoyed this read. Had me giggling through the book. But on a serious side, I giggled while gaining knowledge. Mental health is real. I enjoyed PrimRose and Siar together as a couple. Even though he made PrimRose work hard for his love, he did it out of love for himself. What a man he is after finding out about PrimRose condition, mania, he still chose to stay. What a beautiful soul for someone to love you through your pain.
Why would you weaken and devalue our black woman so much?! Did you write this with good intentions??? PrimRose is/was one of the most weakest fmc that I have ever read about! Why would you write this book filled with homophobia to the point that the parenting became horrible as well because why would you subject your son to that who you loved so much??!!!! What was the reason???? NO
I loved the way the issue of PrimRose's mental health issues were dealt with. I loved that she was supported by a strong, compassionate, unwavering loving village. But what took me out was was God commanding her to house and feed the squirrels. Still laughing. Seriously though, dealing with the mental health challenges was done brilliantly. This is why Ms. Day is one of my favorites.
