Superman vs. Predator should be a more fun read than it is. I mean, I expected Superman to be depowered instantly (which he is) because if he weren’t, it’d be the quickest of fights but I hoped to be more entertained than I was. As it is, this book is unfortunately a tedious and overlong bore of a read.
A Nazi-esque eugenics-obsessed scientist focused on wiping out anyone with a physical/mental defect is operating his doomsday device out of the Central/South American jungle (similar to where the first Predator movie was set) - Superman, (a) Predator and the rest of the human cast drearily stumble around against this backdrop in what could barely be called a story.
Nothing much that happened was really that compelling or surprising which is why it failed to hold my attention. As always seems to be the case with these kinds of crossovers, Superman and Predator don’t get much time in the spotlight and get annoyingly sidelined by a cast of forgettable, disposable human characters. The “vs” aspect is literally two brief fight scenes between them which were underwhelming at best.
I guess it’s competently written, it’s just not interesting to read. Alex Maleev’s art is pretty good for the most part though he does make Superman look a bit Down’s Syndrome-y in a few panels. On the whole, Superman vs. Predator is a disappointingly weak and dull crossover - nothing to see here!
Superman heads down to South America to save some scientists. There he acquires an alien virus that eliminates most of his power or this would be over in about 3 seconds. Supes has to fight terrorists and a Predator. Alex Maleev is still finding his style in the book.
Inusitado crossover entre Superhomem e Predador. E mais interessante ainda observar o Predador, por exemplo, em situações que não seriam possíveis nos filmes. Até mesmo o Superhomem acaba sendo afetado por este ser alienígena.
Ok, this is why I don't read Superman comics. They always have to find a way for him to lose his powers otherwise he'd fix everything in seconds. Here, he easily gets beaten up by humans AND a Predator while a crazy mad dickhead wants to poison the Earth's water to eradicate the 'weak' ones. This means those with Down's Syndrome. They actually say that, it's pretty harsh. However, such an interesting twisted plan is wasted in a stupid story of non-Superman being a prisoner and a Predator derping about doing practically nothing while a human badass does most of the work. It is also a human bad guy who does most of the fighting with the Predator.
Such a wasted opportunity with some inconsistent art. Superman barely looks the same from panel to panel fluctuating between Ben Affleck and a fat Elvis and some other non-Superman looking people in between.
3.5/5. This was a good and traditional representation of Predator, but I didn't love that Superman had to be fading away due to an alien pathogen rather than simply having the fight be difficult due to the Predators capabilities...it seemed to diminish quite a bit of the Predators overall ferocity. I am also noticing that "Superman is losing his powers so I guess this is more or less a fair fight" trope is a go-to in the crossover's I've read which seems a bit of a cop-out to me.
Still very entertaining and what you'd expect from the title.
Superman, power-lite due to an alien infection, takes on a Predator.
One of the most interesting things in these types of crossovers is to see how they level the playing field. This one was pretty lame - the Predator germ just happens to affect people from Krypton? The story and art were ok, but not great, hence the two stars.
Overall a excellent story.at first glance you may wonder how the predator vs superman will mesh but the story is told in a way that makes it very conceivable.the battling between the two was excellent.this should be considered the blueprint for how to do crossovers.
Distractingly bad politics (I don’t even want to get into it) and very little actual Superman vs. Predator stuff. Y’know. The thing you’re promised on the tin. The whole point of the thing, supposedly.
I borrowed the book from a Library and it is not paper back they just bound the three back to back issues as one comic.
The title is mesmerizing. The Man of Steel against another alien. The cover promised action but I was disappointed that right from the first page Superman is crippled. I thought it should be kryptonite. Later the story reveals that Superman is infected by alien virus spread by the predator.
Star labs visits the crash landed space ship that had carried the predator. Unfortunately the self destruct did not worked because of loose wire! Superman comes to crash landed site and gets the fever.
Same time a villain plans to destroy unfit humans from this earth. Lois gets captured and here comes Superman err. just man with less super powers.
Superman is pitted against Predator and the Scientist. With diminishing power, did Superman really saved mankind remains the rest of the story.
Other than Superman being weakened, the story looks good and entertaining. Art work is not that much great. As mentioned by Jimmy Brown in his review that Superman barely looks the same from panel to panel is worth mentioning.
This was better than it has any right to be. Don't get me wrong, it's not good but it's fun. The Alex Maleev art saves it in so many places. Great Saturday morning read.
