The Perfect Love

Rate this book
Chelsea Winters knocked me on my ass.
Meeting the curvy, auburn-haired goddess was the last thing I was expecting on my first day at a new college. But when she shows up at the lake house I share with my seven close friends, she looks like my literal dream girl.

Then we spend a few hours talking, and I know without question, she’s meant to be mine.

Until she panics, runs away, and tries to ghost me.

But our campus isn’t that big, and it doesn’t take long for us to cross paths again, and when we do, I realize how terrified Chelsea actually is.

Afraid to trust or let anyone past the upbeat, confident exterior she puts up.

Which means it’s now my mission to show her she’s safe with me. She can trust me with her hurt and her heart. If she needs to go slow, I'll crawl, as long as it's to her.

We’re both here for a fresh start, trying to heal from our pasts, but the more time I spend with her, the less I’m worried about the past because all I see is my future with her.

There might not be any such thing as the perfect love, but I know without a doubt, she’s my perfect match, and I’ll do whatever it takes to be the man she shares her future with.

The Perfect Love is an emotional, heartwarming, and steamy college romance with a guaranteed happily ever after. Though it’s not a dark romance, it deals with some heavy topics. Be sure to check the trigger warnings in the front of the book (available in the free sample) for more information.

This book was good but it does have some heavy subject matter and mental health issues regarding some of it. Please keep that in mind if you want to read it if those might be triggering to you.

Now, that being said….

This book was an emotional whirlwind and in the best way. This book hits you in all the feels. Chelsea and Trevor, well, they are what soulmates on page should look like. They are 2 characters whose backstories each contain their own traumas, both of which are different and has shaped them into the characters we meet at the beginning. Their lives merge by chance and from there the pull towards each other is unstoppable.

Trevor is truly one of the most swoon-worthy mmc’s I have ever read. His love, devotion and commitment for Chelsea during a time in her life where she has to choose she will fight and win the battles raging inside her to get where she needs is what us readers truly want. (even us shadow daddy, bag boys, morally gray mmc lovers!) He is one of the best mmc’s that I have read in a while. ❤️ Even when he is struggling with his own battles he would go to the ends of the earth for Chelsea- no matter what it takes or how long it takes.

Chelsea is a bada$$ who knows her worth and chooses to keep going to rebuild what her trauma took from her. Finding Trevor gave her that final nudge of reassurance she needed to truly know she was taking her life back and is an overcomer. And we fall head over heels for Trevor right along with her. She also helps Trevor take on his battles despite battling hers too and together they start healing and building a relationship that will withstand the time and trials of life. In the book, the amount of stuff that had to go through and work through definitely created an unbreakable bond.

This book has subject matter regarding r@pe/SA, death of a parent/grief, suicide, alcohol abuse as a coping mechanism, depression, anxiety. These are all real life issues and things people go through every moment of every day. If you are looking for a fluffy, feel good
read this book is not for you. This book does have a HEA, but a lot is worked through before they get there. Do I still recommend it? 100%. But only if you are not triggered by those topic and the heavy subject matter isn’t an issue for you.

Nobody writes true to life stories like Bethany Monaco Smith. Chelsea could be your sister, your best friend, she could even be you. Trevor is the man every woman wants in their corner. Romantic and sweet, protective and caring, and willing to open up and bare his vulnerabilities.
For anyone who is reading BMS for the first time this story works as a stand-alone. To enjoy it to its full potential though I recommend all the books set in Ida be read. Yeah there’s a number of them but they’re all well written and worth the time. I adored being back in this world. These are some of my favourite characters I’ve read. It felt like my happy place being back with them. Which is ironic really because there is a lot of mental health trauma and issues in this series. This was no exception. Chelsea had suffered through a sexual assault and she is still healing from that. Trevor has a few issues of his own to deal with and needs to learn how to give himself grace when mistakes are made.
As with other couples in the series Chelsea and Trevor are a perfect example of a couple that love and support each other wholeheartedly. Open to communication it’s a pleasure to read about people who behave in a mature fashion and accept help as needed.
My last thought; If I had a girl gang like the one here my life would be complete. It’s my favourite part of all the books.

Thank you to Bethany Monaco Smith and team for the arc and this is my honest review.

“The Perfect Love” is the second book in Bethany Monaco Smith’s Ida Heartthrobs series, and it’s Trevor and Chelsea’s love story.

I thought this was such a great read! It was somehow incredibly angsty and emotional while also having a good amount of lighthearted moments.

Trevor is 100% book boyfriend material. He was utterly swoony, and the way he was so protective of Chelsea and how hard he worked to make her feel safe around him was super sweet.

Chelsea had been through so much pain, and she was still trying to heal from her past, but she was also incredibly strong, and I loved that she gained more confidence over the course of the novel.

Trevor and Chelsea’s story was very genuine, and it’s the kind of book that stays with you for a while. It did make me teary at times, but that’s just another example of how good it was! I highly recommend!

This was an absolutely beautiful novel. It's refreshing to read about a couple in college being so communicative and open. Trevor is a complete cinnamon roll. He listens and responds to Cheslea's needs.
The spice was spicin' ya'll.
I love the invisible string theory, and to read this with such a sweet story was wonderful. These two have been through so much and them being open and honest was glorious. I cant wait to read more by this author.

✨E-ARC Review✨

This is my first time reading author Bethany Monaco Smith, and I have to say I truly loved this book so much. It is so deeply moving, heart wrenching, & beautiful. This story touched on a lot of sensitive subjects, but the author did an impeccable job being sensitive and respectful while writing these scenes. So beware, there may be lots of tears shed. (At least there were for me)

Trevor and Chelsea are two people intertwined by a single tiny thread that lead them to each other. It’s incredible and beautiful how seamlessly the author connected their pasts throughout the entire story.
When we first meet them, they are both overcome with heartbreaking trauma, but from the moment their eyes met, Trevor and Chelsea knew they were soul mates.
“This butterflies-whirling-in-my-stomach, sugar rush, cotton-candy-in-my-brain feeling.”
Their relationship was an uphill battle at times because of what they were both dealing with, but I loved how respectful, patient, and loving they were with each other.

Their circle of friends were an incredible support system for them, and were total friendship goals. I adored how much they loved Chelsea and took her under their wings right from the start!! “I lean back in my chair and allow myself a moment to soak in this… love. I’ve never experienced this kind of platonic love before, but I want to be a part of this tribe as much as they all want me here.”

I did feel at times, that the story delved a bit deeper into some of the friend characters more than I would have liked; yet I completely understood why, being that most of the characters now have their own books in the series. Selfishly, I just wanted more scenes with Trevor and Chelsea without all of the other characters involved. I just loved them so much!
With that said, this was a book I could not put down. Every time I had to go back and forth from adulting to reading, I was always anticipating when I could get back to Trevor and Chelsea’s story.

Thank you so much to the author Bethany Monaco Smith and The Author Agency for choosing me to be an ARC reader.
I am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

This book delivered a heartfelt small-town romance that’s equal parts sweet, steamy, and deeply emotional. Chelsea and her love interest share an unforgettable journey of healing and finding trust, wrapped in tropes like found family, invisible strings, and mental health growth.

The heavier themes, including SA, are handled with care and realism, making this story as poignant as it is hopeful. Chelsea’s vulnerability and resilience, paired with a swoon-worthy hero’s patience, create a love story that feels both tender and authentic.

Perfect for fans of emotional romances with a guaranteed HEA. Prepare to laugh, cry, and fall completely in love.

This was disappointing. The premise is awesome. But so many things didn’t add up, not to mention there is no burn at all. Like, she immediately meets this guy and they’re just automatically together. There was nothing organic about it and it felt so forced and awkward. The message of the story is really good, and I might reread it for that alone. But the relationship developing within 20 pages of a 500 page story and no third act breakup or miscommunication? It just was way too long

“ONE SAY, WHEN I have children, I want to be able to tell my daughters a man did not break me. The world did not break me. I fought back, and I’ll keep fighting.”

What an opening few lines and I was straight away intrigued and pulled into this story. Straight off we know we have a background story here that won’t be all roses and rainbows, but with that at the other end we are going to have a female character that will have a strength behind her but yet someone not quite whole.

One thing to note that check out any triggers before going into this book as it does cover a few hard hitting topics.

Bethany always knows how to write a story that we are going to be gripped with and will always bring us an emotionally rollercoaster. But one thing I will say is that her stories are always so real that they open up your heart and make you feel every emotion that our characters feel, her writing draws you in, and encapsulates you that you just want more. You really are on that journey with our characters and the thing is the story is always at a beautiful pace that nothing is rushed everything happens at the right moment and not only gels our couple together, but gels this close knit group of friends together and the past stories that we already know.
The Perfect love follows the story of Chelsea and Trevor. Chelsea is broken and has been slowly rebuilding herself as a result of a traumatic experience and in doing so she moves away to start afresh in Old Lake Town, this is her time to reinvent herself and get back her old self.

In Old Lake Town is the gang that we all love that tight knit group of friends who are they for each other through thick and thin and in the mix we have Trevor our broken main male character. His career is over and is now trying to rebuild himself and to determine where he goes now and what can, he do.

This book explores these two meeting and how their relationship builds, with Chelsea trying to overcome her demons and move forward and doing this she learns exactly what real friends are. She is welcomed instantly into this group of friends with no questions asked and take her as she is. She learns to lean on them when she needs too and also lets them lean on her. My favorite lines that make me go I want this friends where:

“The darkness has a way of whispering things that we show how believe as the truth. Don’t let the darkness win.”

“Friends don’t let friends sit in the darkness alone.” “They crawl and be the light that helps them find their way out,”

The relationship build between Chelsea and Trevor is so well done and honestly Trevor has to be up there as a book boyfriend, his sweetness, understanding and caring nature and willingness to make Chelsea happy, he understood her and knew what she needed, turning the tables to let her be the one in control.

Bethany in her books rights about real subject matters, that is realistic and it does draw you in, everything is writes has been well thought out and done in a way that is not insensitive but hits home and in Chelsea and Trevor’s story we finish with a HEA, but it is a journey.

The Perfect Love by Bethany Monaco Smith

If you've been a reader of Bethany's for awhile than you've probably been dying for this book for as long as I have. And goodness did it pack all the punches. (Like usual!) Because it wouldn't be a Bethany book without a rollercoaster ride of all the messy emotions!

You know if you've read The Friends Like This series that these two have been through it. But getting to see their stories through their eyes was everything I needed! And every tear was worth it because I've been invested. Despite them not actually being real and just words on the pages these characters have been loved for so long that you feel like you know them. (Let's note that author growth real quick... you're amazing Bethany!)

You know these two were a little broken when they met after reading their stories through the eyes of their friends. And we've loved Trevor for so long, we've seen him forge these friendships through Freaking Love and FLT and now here we see his growth. And if you know me you know one of my favorite things about Bethany's books is all the character growth that she gives you.

She makes her characters go through it, so that when they come out on the other side they are stronger, wiser and better for it.
While they didn't go through the same pain, pain sees pain. And they way these two connect on a level that so many people search for so long for so quickly is so beautiful. The way the see each other. Like deep in their souls. A pure understanding. They fill in eachothers gaps. Not perfect, but their own version of perfect. Watching them forge this bond and understanding. There was a moment I didn't cheer and root for these two, swoon at every chance over Trevor because this man at such a young age knows exactly what he wants (sorry Joel but he gave you a run for your money but don't worry #27 will always have my heart he just may have to share with #6 sometimes). The resistance and fight these two posses to get back up even when you've been beaten down. To rebuild your way of thinking and navigate/find a new plan. I loved every thing about this book! Every laugh, tear, ounce of frustration, swoon was worth it! As always of course I love how Interconnected this series is with Bethanys others because i love seeing all of the previous characters we've fallen in love with. But I always love when we get the crossovers with Jenni's Metros and Revs!

I don't want to pick favorites especially because we know how much I love them all but this might be my favorite... until she gives us Braden! ❤️

Ps... did i go switch around my home/lock screens? yes, yes I did! 🤍

This is my first read by this author so I’m not sure how this represents her writing style. But I’m not 100% sure what to think of this one. I loved Chelsea and Trevor, individually and as a couple, and I loved the found family that they have created. There are a lot of them, so I was glad for the character guide at the front to somewhat keep up.

For a large group of college students, tho, they come with a large amount of trauma. This is where my hesitation comes in. I guess they could have bonded because of their issues but it seems like every one of them has something big they need to work through. And they know a lot about mental health, good communication, and support. I mean A LOT. Trevor is an amazingly perfect book boyfriend, tho he does have some trauma of his own to work thru, but the rest are amazingly perfect friends. Sure, a couple of them are studying counseling, some are actively in therapy, and they’ve been thru a ton collectively, but they are also only 20 years old. (Not that # of years lived necessarily means that you can’t have these kinds of lived experiences, but all of them?)

I saw another review say that it felt like an after school special and I can see that. There’s a lot of mental health terminology and advice, girl power and healing. I love that Chelsea is so into supporting women, lifting them up – **** the patriarchy, choose the bear kinda thing. But there’s so much going on here. I’m not sure if it is because there are so many of them, and they are so close, that it felt that way. And I admire both Trevor and Chelsea and how they address & overcome their issues. It was just a very full book.

Please know going in that this book deals with some really heavy subjects. It has some fantastic mental health representation and I love to see the normalization of that in books. The characters try so hard to be good people, good friends, to be supportive and love enthusiastically. They are wonderful characters and I so want to know their stories, to get to know them better.

It just feels like a lot when there are so many of them :)

This book was a lot in the best way. It was a very such a sweet romance with a strong, BA FMC and maybe the best man to ever walk this planet. It could easily be the sugary sweet romance that just gives you all of the good feels and leaves you warm and snuggly on the inside. But there is something so much deeper and heavy to this story. It is definitely one where you need to read the trigger warnings. I am some who doesn’t really get impacted by triggers, but this story definitely brought up a lot of feelings and emotions for me. I thought the author did such an amazing job of tackling the subject matter and I really felt that it felt authentic. I did not expect to enjoy this book quite as much as I did. I have read books with similar subject matter, but I have yet to read one that I felt really felt real.

The characters in this book are everything. This is the first book in this series that I’ve read, so this was my first introduction to all of these characters. Of course the main characters are everything, but the characters that make up this small family feel like people I would love to have in my life. Chelsea is quite frankly amazing. A Wonder Woman. She has been through something so traumatic, something that doesn’t ever leave you. But the strong confident woman that she has become is inspiring. Dealing with her trauma is definitely a journey, but with Trevor there, I feel like she could conquer anything. And then there’s Trevor… I can’t really find the words. The fact that he is bound and determined to take care of everyone he loves makes him so amazing. And then the way he is with Chelsea is a step above. Very few people would be like he is. (There are a few, but not many.)

This story was long, but I really felt like I couldn’t stop reading it. Even though there are some tough topics, there are some really good spicy scenes. It makes them even more fantastic that Trevor takes every lead from Chelsea. I really felt that this book was so well written and addressed the topic so well. And a side note, my Western NY wife loved when I told her that the MMC’s favorite flavor of ice cream is Mint-Ting-A-Ling (Its her’s too.) If the the one topic doesn’t trigger you, this is such a fantastic read.

The Perfect Love by Bethany Monaco Smith is an emotional whirlwind in the best way possible. It tugs at your heartstrings, delivers gut punches (the loving kind), and leaves you utterly satisfied. Chelsea and Trevor? They’re the definition of soulmates, their connection magnetic from the moment their paths collide.

Trevor is the blueprint for swoon-worthy heroes. His love, devotion, and steadfast commitment to Chelsea during her most challenging moments are nothing short of extraordinary. Even while battling his own demons, he never falters in his determination to be her rock. Honestly, Trevor might just steal your heart and your breath.

Then there’s Chelsea: pure resilience personified. She’s a fighter who refuses to let her trauma define her, clawing her way back to herself one step at a time. Finding Trevor doesn’t magically “fix” her, but it gives her the reassurance to keep moving forward. And while Trevor is her safe harbor, she’s just as much his anchor, grounding him when he needs it most. Together, they create a love story that’s as unshakable as it is inspiring.

This book doesn’t shy away from the messy, painful realities of life. It’s raw, intense, and unapologetically real, but that’s exactly what makes the happily ever after feel so earned. A word of advice: check the trigger warnings before diving in. This isn’t your fluffy, feel-good romance—it’s a deep dive into love’s ability to heal even the deepest scars.

If you’re ready for a story that will make you cry, swoon, and root for love’s transformative power, The Perfect Love is for you. Chelsea and Trevor’s journey will stick with you long after you’ve turned the final page.

5 stars! omggggg

thank you to the author for an arc of this book.

what to expect:
🎀 small town
🎀 baseball romance
🎀 curvy fmc
🎀 found family
🎀 mental health rep
🎀 grief rep

this book follows trevor and chelsea, and their journey of recovery following SA & grief.
this is easily one of the best arcs i’ve ever received. the character development & the found family within this book are some of the best i’ve read about. chelsea was a character that i could relate to, and i’m so happy she found her people in the end.

chelsea’s character was very likeable. she has been through the worst trauma and at the beginning of the book, couldn’t find it in herself to open up to anyone other than family. her “friends” turned out to be unhelpful and the people she could turn to were her dad, uncle & gran. throughout this book you can see her heal and recover, whilst also helping other ladies that have suffered through the same as her. she accepts new friends into her life and finds her place in society and finds an occupation which she loves. the difference between chelsea’s character at the start of the book and at the end is drastic.
trevor’s character was also extremely likeable. he’s definitely a cinnamon-roll mmc (in the best way!) but the amount of grief he holds within himself is heartbreaking. he always puts others before himself which means throughout the book we see him face his grief and trauma head-on, which includes going to therapy.

i wasn’t expecting this book to be quite so dark. it’s very heavy and doesn’t shy away from the reality of sexual violence, suicidal ideation and grief. i loved this aspect of the book as i found it to be more believable and real. check TWs before going into it, but the author writes about these topics very respectfully. this book truly healed parts of me and my soul. i know that sounds very dramatic, but it’s true.

i did guess the small “twist” at the end but this didn’t ruin anything for me, i loved it just as much as if i didn’t guess it!

5/5 ⭐️ overall, spectacular gimme 14 of them right now x

It’s impossible not to be captivated by Chelsea and Trevor! Individually, they shine as amazing young adults, and when their paths cross at a dinner party, they embark on a transformative journey filled with love, healing, laughter, shadow daddies, and the promise of forever.

Chelsea's strength as a character is truly admirable. After a traumatic event, she bravely transfers colleges, embracing the opportunity to start anew with fresh friends and a blossoming love. Her resilience and courage are inspiring.

Trevor, too, is on a path of rediscovery. Following a career-ending injury, he transfers schools and chooses to live with an incredible group of friends, leaving behind the dream of being drafted by an MLB team.
Together, Chelsea and Trevor encounter a series of invisible string events that seem to affirm the universe's intention for them to be together. And when the story heats up, it truly sizzles!

While the narrative beautifully tackles significant themes such as trauma and mental health, I found it to be somewhat repetitive in places. Certain aspects told of the friend group's stories I felt didn't value to the plot. However, it's crucial to note how sensitively and beautifully the story handles these serious topics.
I enjoyed the plot, loved the characters, and writing style was gorgeous.

It’s because of the repetitive nature and the friend groups side stories that I gave this book 3.5 stars. I totally recommend giving it a read, keeping in mind that because I said I found the story a little repetitive, doesn't mean that it will come across the same for someone else.

The moment his eyes land on Chelsea Winters he knows he has to have her in whatever capacity she allow him...even if he just has to settle for being her friend. After a few hours of conversation he senses that she's not being completely forthcoming about her past, that she has fears when it comes to relationships and love... but that's okay he's a patient man and a for woman like her he'll wait forever if he has to!

From the get-go The Perfect Love had my full attention and as I continued to turn the pages that hold on me never waivered. Chelsea and Trevor met by chance and from the very beginning he knew that they were meant for one another, she on the other hand had her doubts. She'd been through a lot and putting her trust in another human was something she really struggled with, she wasn't wanting to open up to someone, share everything she'd been through, for fear of losing everything all over again. But she had never met a man quite like Trevor either, he was patient, attentive, and very determined to make her see that she did deserve love and to have someone in her life that she could count on and support her.

It was such a beautiful love story to watch unfold, it's words left an indent on my heart that are sure to be felt for a long while. Definitely one of the best first reads I have experienced in quite a long time! Highly recommend!!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Really Liked It

This book was heavier than I thought it would be, but so good. Please note that one of the central themes is SA in many forms. None of it on page. It also deals with the passing of a parent (also not on page) and the grief/grieving process. There's a lot more that happen on/off page that can be triggering, but they all basically go hand-in-hand with those 2 big ones.

Chelsea's road to recovery and healing is a bumpy and rocky one. It's heartbreaking and the journey she went on was written so well that i was so freaking proud of her in the end!

Trevor...oh, sweet, Trevor. He is the ULTIMATE book boyfriend. Caring and sweet and understanding and willing to do whatever it is that Chelsea needed him to do. Took things as slow as she needed. He was just happy to spend time with her and even without knowing her fully story didn't push and didn't overstep. His own trauma wasn't going to stop him from being what Chelsea needed him to be when she needed him to be it.

This is not a light and fluffy friends to lovers that the cover/teasers would have you believe. It's a deep book tackling some deep issues. It is 100% worth the read.

Only reason I didn't absolutely love this and give it 5 stars is the pacing seemed a little off to me. So much time was spent on Chelsea and Trevor in the very beginning and once all the stuff hit the fan towards the end, it just glossed over that. I kinda feel short changed a little that we didn't get to see more of Trevor and Chelsea and the trial. Like, there were big chunks of time skipped when there could've been big chunks of time skipped at the beginning/middle instead.

Thank you, Bethany Monaco Smith and The Author Agency for this ARC.

Omg what an emotional rollercoaster that just sucks you right in and does not let go !! Have you ever picked up a book or a series that just hooked you in a way no other has for a very long time ? That you found yourself not only falling completely in love with from the very first installment and page but had the ability to make you feel so many different emotions you never saw coming? Everything from smiling to laughing out loud to crying like a baby to screaming outta pure frustration to cheering the whole way through!!Kinda like being on the craziest ride at the amusement park !!! you know rhat feelijg you get in your stomach from being excited and nervous at the same time - the anticipation of whats to come next ? Well Bethany’s Ida Heartthrobs Series has delivered all of the above in ♠️ spades . In fact prior to reading The Perfect Love I never would have thought it would be possible to choose a favorite couple . But Chelsea and Trevor are without a doubt at the top of my list . The Perfect Love is a story that covers some very heavy topics and is a really heartfelt, emotional read.

The main characters in this book are Chelsea and Trevor, a pair that have both suffered personal trauma and end up going on a journey together of self development and healing.

Bethany did such a great job in covering the topics in this story, they were well thought out and so sensitively written and I was completely engaged throughout.

Chelsea is such a strong woman that definitely knows her worth, she is so determined not to let what she’s suffered define her and uses her trauma to help others, her character is so likeable from the start.
Trevor cares so deeply for everyone around him and gives so much support to others, sometimes forgetting about himself. The way he shows his devotion for Chelsea and is committed to help her overcome her demons whatever way she needs, even though he has his own struggles is definitely what makes him an ideal book boyfriend.

The two of them work so well together, both pushing each other to be the best they can be by communicating their wants and needs, as well as both giving the physical and emotional support they each require.

I absolutely loved the friendship group that is built across this series, they all go through their own struggles but continue to be such a close knit group and a great support system to each other, that I’m sure all of us would love to have.

Even with all the trauma and heartache the pair encounter throughout this book, it still ends up being such a perfect love story!

Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Bethany did such a good job with this book. This is the first book I’ve read by this author. She handled the SA aspects of this book with such care and heartbreaking realism.
We have two people who are dealing with their own battles. They have a meet cute. We have lots of great friends and good support, which makes for excellent side characters. Chelsea is dealing with some trauma, it’s one many women go through…they shouldn’t. No one should. But many do, even men and it’s often worse for them, no one takes it serious. I loved Chelsea and her journey to inner healing. Her found family or tribe of friends is the absolute best. It was crucial for her journey. It’s not something many of us get, and I was envious of her connection with them. My own journey was very dark and lonely. Chelsea learns more than just how to heal from her trauma. She learns her worth and healthy ways to distance herself from bad friendships that might cause her more harm than good. Trevor is a total green flag boyfriend. He is what most women dream of having. He is supportive and kind. He loves hard. He is protective and fun. He isn’t without flaws, and tends to take on the world on his shoulders…but he is willing to be vulnerable and he is willing to grow. He makes Chelsea feel seen and important and safe! This was a great book with such important lessons, and healing and not letting that voice tell you that you are unworthy or should feel shame or that it is all your fault.

The Perfect Love is a beautiful yet sensitive story about 2 young adults who have suffered physical, mental and emotional trauma in their past and are actively working towards healing and becoming better version of themselves. The way Bethany has written about sensitive topics, individual characters and their journey is admirable. It is heartbreaking to read what both Chelsea and Trevor have been through in their lives and it is also awe inspiring to read how they both worked to heal and overcome their trauma and not let it ruin their future. Trevor is huge GREEN FLAG in every which way it counts and Chelsea is a fighter. Together they are absolutely perfect for each other as they help, support and understand one another and that helps them in their healing. This book is packed with rollercoaster of emotions, meddling friends and family, banter and teasing amongst characters and tones of romance. One thing that appreciate is that Bethany dedicated a page titled “Meet the Characters’ which helped me to identify the characters and made it easy to understand who is who. If you are looking for a book for any of the above mentioned tropes, this book will be a good addition to your TBR list.

Firstly want to say a massive thank you to the author agency and Bethany Monaco Smith for giving me this ARC opportunity.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I gave it 4 stars simply because at times I found it a bit slow and I didn’t find myself wanting to pick up the book. I have been in a smallish book slump so I took that under considerations and didn’t rate it slower because truly I do think it is good story. I loved both the characters and didn’t really have any issues with either.

The book does cover sensitive topics, so while the reviews may be good, always check trigger warnings so you know what you are getting into. I love the way Bethany wrote about this bought attention to them without just using them as a personality trait for anyone, if you get what I mean. Sometimes authors give characters trauma just to make them more ‘exiting’, which I didn’t find to be the case with this books.

I did read the first book in the series before this, since I don’t like jumping into the middle of a series, and I must admit I preferred this book. Don’t get me wrong I loved Jesse and Dani, but Trevor and Chelsea just hit different for me.

Like I said in the beginning, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others, as well as recommending Bethany as an author to them.

Trevor is the perfect book boyfriend and Chelsea is a wonderful heroine. I liked the story line and it was rare to see such young kids have an open, mature, honest relationship. I'm not saying it can't happen, but a lot of the dialogue and knowledge about mental health seemed better suited for a group of older individuals. Sure, it could be accurate with these two, but then their whole group of friends too? Granted, if I had a group of friends like that, wow.. that's what everyone dreams of having. So, it was a nice escape read as a lot of it didn't feel "authentic" to that age group or realistic. I'm sure someone has that somewhere, but I think it's very VERY rare. The author included a lot of hot topics like patriarchy, rape, mental health issues, death, suicide and sex in general. So, it's heavy in some parts, not just a fluffy read by any means. I was rooting for Trevor and Chelsea the whole time though and loved the "pull" between them. Their chemistry was great and they both had a good support system of friends and family. I hope to raise my own son to be like a Trevor - supporting women, in touch with emotions, kind, hard working, etc. My feelings overall toward the book are pretty neutral. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't really like it either. I skimmed over some parts too as it felt like things were dragging on.

Thank you the author agency for giving me the arc of The Perfect Love by Bethany Monaco Smith!

Four stars

First of all, I absolutely loved this book and I want to read more from this author. There was something so refreshing about healthy conversations about healing and trauma that made me feel so safe and comfortable with these characters. Sometimes hard things aren’t handled well in fiction, but I can say with certainty that this was the perfect representation of a strong female character. She struggled, but she got back up and was even able to ask for help along the way. That’s what strength is. Well done!

I loved the supportive friendships portrayed here. I also loved the feminist quotes and healthy relationships. Trevor was literally Book Boyfriend to Chelsea and the way he supported her and even bent over backwards to help her whenever she was struggling was so amazing to read about. And the way we were able to watch him heal and figure out what his future was going to look like after such a drastic change was really important.

I will say that this story did feel a little long, but that wasn’t much of an issue for me. Ultimately, this author knows what they’re doing and I can’t wait to pick up something else from them! Thank you!

⚾️ARC REVIEW💖

This was definitely an emotional rollercoaster. Check the trigger warnings my friends. This book deals with some very HEAVY topics.

Chelsea is a strong FMC who’s dealt with something that no one should ever have to go through. Seeing her grow in her path of healing was courageous and definitely inspiring. The feminist curvy queen of my dreams. She’s a fellow book girly so, I love her. I was so happy she got justice when lots of people have not.

Trevor is without a doubt the best book boyfriend/ husband/shadow daddy. We need men like him in the real world and I’m mad there aren’t more like him. He’s a complete gem. He’s so good to Chelsea and never pushes her boundaries. And the way he treats his mama 🫠

This book deals with a lot of healing from trauma with the main characters and also the close knit friend group, which I wish I had a group like that. Friends loving and supporting each other through all the trials of life. The book was a breathe of fresh air. I can feel the love radiating from the pages.

“I’m okay. And when I’m not, I will be. I’m resilient even in the moments when I don’t feel that way. Or at least that’s what my therapist says. Yeah, healing is a journey.”

This is one powerful book. This book touches on some sensitive subjects, but gives them the dignity and awareness they deserve. Mental health is such an important topic. I struggle with it myself daily. Mine stems from the loss of my grandparents and how my life has changed to a new normal. So I can relate to Trevor with how he deals with the loss of his dad. It's life changing and those anniversaries of their deaths are hard milestones to deal with. Then Chelsea, she is so empowering and inspirational. What she went through no one should have, but to see the woman she has become shows the hope of a brighter future. I love all the book boyfriend references because Trevor is prime book boyfriend material for sure. This book is packed full of the feels! I love the girl group Chelsea befriends because that right there is the kind of support anyone needs in their lives. I really loved the journey of healing for both Chelsea and Trevor. There is heat in this one, but a different look to it and a powerful connection of trust. Don't even get me started on the epilogue in this one. That made me so happy!! I was squealing with happiness for Chelsea and Trevor. This is definitely a book worth reading!

This book was pretty heavy and covers some things that may be triggering and covers a-lot about mental health so please, please, please read the trigger warnings.

This was the first book I have read by Bethany and I was not disappointed. I loved Trevor and Chelsea so much!

Chelsea went through something horrific and she was able to let herself grieve a part of her that she lost and then she pulled herself up by the bootstraps and made her way back to herself. Her meeting Trevor and him being the amazing and caring man that he was to her helped her so much on her journey. They went through some things and they made each other stronger and happier. Also, her finding her girl gang was everything and I loved that so much for her.

Poor Trevor. He is this amazing guy and he has so much love for people in general but mostly the people in his circle. He goes through some things as well and Chelsea helps him realize that he has to start thinking about himself and taking care of himself as well. He has an amazing group of friends and they adopt Chelsea into their group so effortlessly and unconditionally it was so sweet.

if you’re looking for a happy go lucky romance, maybe come back to this one later but i beg you to come back. this was amazing. it’s a romance, yes. but it’s also so much more.

there’s grief and there’s healing from trauma. there’s mental health scares and a lot of therapy. there’s friends who aren’t really friends at all and then there’s friends who turn into family.

Trevor is healing from the loss of his baseball career and grief over losing his dad. Chelsea is healing from the trauma of being raped and feeling like she lost herself. the two meet and instantly have a connection, later realizing they’ve crossed paths many times in their lives but it seems like fate waited until they were really needed each other to bring them together.

their story was beautiful. Chelsea jokes the whole time about Trevor being a fantasy book boyfriend, but he really is perfect.

be aware of your triggers for this one! SA is a main plot point. there’s also a suicide attempt and an overdose (neither are the two MCs)

-invisible string
-found family
-love at first sight
-small town vibes
-healing together
-mental health rep

This book was a beautiful emotional roller coaster!

It deals with really heavy issues and traumas so please check the trigger warnings before you read ahead.

I loved Chelsea and Trevor’s story. Both of them having dealt with massive life events and traumas, have always been linked by an invisible string until one day Chelsea walks into Trevor’s house for a dinner with friends.

Trevor is down baddddddd. He is such a role model of perfect book boyfriend. He has so much love and protection for the people around him that at times it’s also to his detriment. The way he cared for Chelsea and was so understanding of her boundaries was so beautiful. He really took his role as her partner so seriously, his supporting was next level.

Chelsea was such a powerhouse. She had so much strength after clawing her way out of a dark time. The way she slowly let down her walls not only for Trevor but Rae and the girls was so special. She was fierce yet vulnerable.

Emotional read but such a sweet HEA

Ms. Monaco Smith delivers an emotional and breathtaking story that will have you shedding a few tears and loving the MCs as well as the supporting ones. Having met the characters in previous Ida stories I knew I was going to be drawn in and emotionally invested in Trevor and Chelsea's story. They both have a past that had their world shattered, hers maybe more but not any less impacted.
Trevor and Chelsea meet through mutual friends however Chelsea runs because of a situation from her past that haunts her. Meeting up again sees the two of them becoming friends and secrets and pasts are shared. Trevor is such a sweet and caring man who tells Chelsea that he will wait for her until she is ready for him to be more than just a friend. Chelsea is scared about getting close but when she sees how loving and open Trevor is, she lets her walls down bit by bit to let Trevor in.
I was so consumed by their story and the way that the helped one another heal and I could not put this book down. The Perfect Love is one story that will stay with me for a long time.
