One of many problems with this book: Susan doesn't seem to know what an empath is.
Right in her lengthy subtitle, Susan conflates empaths with Highly Sensitive Persons. Apples and kiwis!
Moreover, she’s clearly offering the standard approach of Pop Psychology for most self-help books: boundaries and believing in yourself, etc.
FROM MY PERSPECTIVE, THIS IS NOT OKAY
As the founder of Real-Deal Empath Empowerment® I have successfully helped unskilled empaths to become Skilled Empaths. And thereby gain many personal benefits.
None of which come from cliched techniques of Pop Psychology.
Having taught empaths professionally for 24 years, and having founded the field of Empath Teaching, I am mystified whenever I encounter empath “experts” like Susan who can’t even define what “empath” means. Let alone guide their readers along the delicate process of learning how to use their empath's consciousness to change the default setting of their empath gifts. So that the personal default setting changes from ON to OFF.
Later in their progress with Empath Empowerment®, already Skilled Empaths can progress further. They can learn how to facilitate Skilled Empath Merge. This brings a direct experience of what it is like to be another person, only — unlike the cliches Susan was writing about right from the start of her book or workbook or whatever, hello!
WHAT IS REQUIRED TO REALLY EMPOWER EMPATHS?
Early in her book, or workbook, Susan expresses astonishment that an empath might be able to “literally feel others people’s”:
* Emotions.
Well, from my perspective, a Skilled Empath can - safely - experience so much more about the chosen "Discovery Person." Depending on that empath's personal set of empath gifts, when skilled, an empath might also have a direct experience of the Discovery Person’s:
* Physical sensations. (Sometimes)
* Intellectual functioning. (Sometimes)
* The quality of that person's spiritual experience in general. (Sometimes)
* The quality of that person's experience of God in particular. (Sometimes)
* The quality of that Discovery Person’s experience as a cat, dog, horse or other animal. (Sometimes)
* The qualities of a particular environment, like a forest versus an ocean. (Sometimes)
* Experience the consciousness of a particular plant. (Sometimes)
* Experience the consciousness of a precious or semi-precious stone. An inexpensive crystal.
* Even experience the consciousness of an argillite rock that is 200 million years old. (Sometimes)
* Experience the intelligence built into a particular machine, like your laptop computer or an antique clock. (Sometimes)
* Experience the different systems and health problems of another human being, as an empath. Cocreating with the Divine. (Sometimes) Altogether from being a psychic who works as a medical intuitive!
* Experience the consciousness of a particular astral being, whether it be a flower fairy or angel or Extra-Terrestrial Entity. (Sometimes)
* Experience another human being’s consciousness at a molecular level. (Sometimes) Having this empath gift in life is almost like energetically tickling your Discovery Person, which helps that individual to wake up a bit more, spiritually. Spontaneously experiening people at a molecular level.
Since I have many of these empath gifts, I have experienced much of the above. More important, as an Empath Coach I have helped Skilled Empaths to make full use of their own empath gifts (including gifts that I don’t personally have).
Teaching these empaths isn’t the least bit difficult for me, because I have worked for years to develop skills as an Empath Teacher.
No wonder I find it a bit of a head scratcher how Susan Reynolds can presume to write a book to help any empath to become an “Empowered Empath.”
AND BY THE WAY . . .
I've researched Susan's Score on the Energy Spirituality SENSITIVITY SCALE. She scores 3 out of possible 20 points.
Empaths score 20. Susan scores as a Slightly Sensitive Person. (Every one of these scores is distinctive and beautiful. Just not identical.)
In short, she isn't personally an empath. Far from it.
RATING THIS BOOK
I hate to give a low-star rating to any book. I know something about what's involved in publishing books, as you can see from my author page here on Goodreads.
Goodreaders, you could do better than this pop psychology book that's supposed to be for empaths. But really isn't.
