Love this book wished they had a longer ending because the fight seem over quickly and definitely think this could have been broken up into a 3 book but still lover their ending
Whaaaat?! Okay I was really hoping this book would be a really good follow up that made up for what the first book lacked, but I ended up wondering why I wasted my time at every turn. Parts of the plot left completely unanswered, holes in the story you could drive a truck through, again with the surface level…everything, and I could not be more annoyed with Hakota and Cleo. These two characters who seemed badass and interesting in the first book became more lifeless, spineless, and annoyingly childish with each chapter. Cleo was heartless and cruel with her heartless behavior towards Hakota even though she has essentially used him, and Hakota dwindled down to a whiny toddler that was so cringy to read about I had secondhand embarrassment. That on top of ZERO CHEMISTRY between these two supposed fate-connected mates who have basically only had a few “amazing” kisses that the reader feels nothing for, and an ending that feels like the author didn’t know what to do with the plot? So disappointing!!
Soooooooo what was that? The book was going pretty good and then the last 2-3 chapters happened. I can’t believe that Cleo was an unreliable narrator in this book. I thought she was acting when she brought him to the trap but nope she full on betrayed him. And honestly, after thinking about it for a bit, she’s real for that.
Also the fact that she made him go through what she did for two years that’s also so real (two years is like nothing for them). The only problem I have with this particular plot line is that it felt rushed. The author could have spent a couple chapters gong through Hakota’s isolation and what it was like for Cleo. She walks away from him at the end of the chapter after ripping his throat out and the very near chapter he was knocking on the castle doors two years later. It felt very rushed and like a cop-out for not having to write them working through their issues.
