It was only supposed to be a hot, anonymous hookup.
I wanted one night after years in a dry spell to let loose and do something reckless.
But the hot guy from the bar who unlocked kinks I never in a million years would’ve thought I’d like, let alone love, turns out to be not so anonymous. Not when I show up the next morning to meet my mom’s new husband…and his awkwardly familiar son.
What’s worse is now he’s everywhere. Family function at my mom’s? He’s there. Fun, afternoon barbeque my uncle holds for his family and coworkers? He’s there. Because of course the infuriatingly attractive jerk would get a job with my uncle’s company.
Oh yeah, and we also can’t seem to stop hooking up.
We keep saying it’s just for tonight, but I’m starting to worry one more night will never be enough. Just for Tonight is a steamy forbidden romance. If you don't like a dirty talking hero who pushes his woman's boundaries, then you absolutely should NOT read this book. See the author’s website for more details.
Cadence Keys writes steamy contemporary sports romances about complex alpha males and the women who love them. She loves football, coffee, and watching Gilmore Girl marathons. She has been writing for almost a decade, but only recently got the gumption to really do something with her work. She looks forward to publishing many more novels, specifically her LA Wolves series.
From the start, Jenna and Connor's chemistry is evident. During her break from her studies, Jenna, a veterinary student, decides to have a one-night encounter with a man she met at a bar. Jenna realizes that her one-night stand is her new stepbrother, who has just been discharged from the army. The incredibly natural way these two linked demonstrated that they belonged together. Despite their imperfections and faults, they are able to support and care for each other. He was always taking care of her, and it seemed like he was there for her when she needed him. I really loved their story and can’t wait to read more!
Jenna feels adrift - she's never been close with her mother, her best friend married her dad, and she's on a break from vet school after struggling through coursework, trying to figure out if she has what it takes to make it. Perfect timing to do something unexpected and have a one night stand with the gorgeous, cocky guy at the end of the bar. After the next night of sex of her life, she leaves, expecting to never see him again. - until she meets her new step-brother Connor at brunch later that morning. She tries to keep to their one -night stand rule but suddenly Connor is everywhere and she just can't fight it anymore. A great continuation of the Breaking the Rules series - Jenna is Travis's daughter and Sadie's best friend. I love how The steamy scenes start at the very beginning...
Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for a fair review!!

Jenna is drinking at the bar hoping to get enough courage to have a one night stand. The man she makes eyes with across the bar is game. After the best night of her life, she ends up seeing him at a restaurant while being introduced to her as her new step brother. How do you handle that?
The fact that Connor calls her "Darlin'" and "Sugar" makes me melt. I feel awful that Jenna felt the need to have a one night stand. The bathroom scene was wild. I do like how open and honest Jenna is right away. Connor's praise is intoxicating. It's awful how bad Jenna's ex messed her up. Jenna's mother is vile. I really enjoyed this book.
Jenna is tired of being a good girl, she is going to find a man to hookup with at a bar. Jenna was with Peter for four years and after she lost her virginity he broke up with her the next week. That was two years ago and Jenna hasn’t been with anyone since. Jenna has been going to school to become a veterinarian but her classes have been hard and her counselor sent her home for the summer. Vanessa Jenna’s mother is a selfish person who never asks how Jenna is doing she just wants Jenna to do everything for her. After taking a couple shots Jenna turns around and see the most handsome man she has ever seen. Connor has just got out of the army and he sees Jenna who he thinks is gorgeous. Connor and Jenna go to his hotel room where they have the best night of their lives. They never gave each other their names so when Connor wakes up to find Jenna gone he is disappointed. That day Jenna is going to a restaurant to meet her mother’s latest husband. Jenna and her mother don’t get along and Jenna is always the recipient of guilt trips. Jenna is sitting there after meeting Dick and the next thing she knows her one night stand shows up and he is Dick’s son. Connor is surprised to see Jenna at the lunch where he is there to meet his new stepmother Vanessa. Jenna really enjoyed the night she spent with Connor and she would love to be with him again but she said it was a one night stand and he is her new stepbrother. Connor doesn’t care about the step sister/brother thing he feels that he has finally met the one for him. Jenna tried to stay away from Connor but it just isn’t happening. Jenna and Connor continue to see each other and have sex. One night Connor had a nightmare because of his PTSD and when Jenna tried to get him to talk he just used sex as a diversion. Jenna couldn’t put herself out there to Connor without him trying to open up so she broke up with him, she refuses to be treated like that. Connor and Jenna are both devastated about the breakup. Connor wants to tell Jenna about his experience in the army but his body just won’t let him open up. Will Jenna ever go back to veterinarian school and get her degree? Will Jenna ever stand up to Vanessa for being so selfish and condescending? Will Connor realize that he needs to get help for his PTSD if he ever wants to get Jenna back? Will Dick and Vanessa’s marriage last more than a month? Will Jenna take Connor back? Will Connor and Jenna get a second chance? Will Connor and Jenna find love and happiness from a one night stand? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Just for Tonight. How many times do we say that in life? And how many times does that really happen? Jenna, our female main character, is at a crossroads in her life. Feeling like a failure in her decision making; dejected by a 4 year romance that went south as well as not succeeding in her studies, she decides to “shake things up”, go to a bar and have a One Night Stand. After all, she can “let loose”, try something new and no one will judge her. She meets Connor and life goes from hot to horror… She discovers after the fact that he is her new Stepbrother, the son of the man her serial marrying mother is currently with. Let me reassure you that the story isn’t a shallow sexual exploit-fest. We like Jenna and Connor. They have their insecurities and faults, but they find in each other the support and caring that each is looking for. When Jenna confides that her studies aren’t going well and she is failing key classes, it’s Connor who provides the strength and solutions to bolster her confidence. When Connor’s issues come to light, Jenna realizes she has grown up considerably and has the inner strength to help him. If you are a follower of Only A Kiss, or a Cadence fan from After the Snap series, I think you’ll like this book—and probably more than Just for Tonight😊
Jenna has been stuck in a rut for a little bit. School hasn’t been the greatest, her love life is pretty non-existent and she’s stuck having brunch with her mom, so why not step out her comfort zone and have a one night stand? Jenna and Connor were wonderful together! They had instant chemistry and a practically instant connection! I liked how Connor pulled Jenna out of her head and really focused on her and what she wanted, but might not have felt comfortable asking for. I liked how all in Connor was from the start, and how Jenna kept insisting it was just temporary. For the shorter length of the story, both Jenna and Connor were developed characters, and more than just skin deep. This was an entertaining story with a touch of taboo with the whole sleeping with your step-sibling thing. Similar to the first story, this book is mostly fluff (or steam) rather than plot. There’s still some plot, but that’s not really the main focus here. If you’d like a book with more plot than steam, I’d recommend checking this author’s other works. This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend reading the first book before this one because it’s also a fun, entertaining story.
I’m looking forward to Grant and Shannon’s story next!!
Just for Tonight: A Steamy Forbidden Romance (Breaking the Rules Book 2) by Cadence Keys is about Jenna, a veterinary student who is home on a break after struggling with classes when she decides to have a one-night stand with a guy she met at a bar. When meeting her socialite mother and her new husband, she discovers her one-night stand is her new stepbrother, newly discharged from the Army, working for her uncle at Carmichael Security. As her mother assigned Jenna to work with Connor to plan their high society reception for her current marriage, they became friends with benefits. After the reception, their relationship took a downward turn. Connor felt weighed down with his past Army Ranger missions that left him with nightmares. On the other hand, Jenna suffered from insecurity and never feeling good enough from years of her mother’s constant criticism. Jenna and Connor have decisions about what sacrifices and compromises each is willing to make to salvage their relationship. Cadence Keys turns forbidden romances into sizzling romances her readers love.
Wow this book was so cute and sweet and steamy. Jenna is Travis’s daughter and I absolutely could not wait for her story! We don’t really meet Jenna too much in her dad’s book but this book was all about her and her beau. Jenna is insecure and wary of love after being with her ex for 4 years and he just broke up with her as well as failing her classes to be a veterinarian. One night she’s sitting in a bar all alone and she meets Connor. They then go on to have a one night stand. The next day they both find out that they are step siblings. I loved how hot and broody Connor was and how he was always encouraging Jenna. He was always tending to her needs and it was like he always showed up at the perfect time for her. She deserved a man just like Connor. Very cute and steamy story about self acceptance and finding a man who accepts her just the way she is.
I received an ARC copy from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving my review.
I voluntarily reviewed "JUST FOR TONIGHT" I Thoroughly enjoyed this emotional, troubled, angsty, forbidden romance, steamy scenes, intrigue, PTSD, past traumas, break up, twists that keeps you turning the pages. Jenna is Travis's daughter & had been in a relationship for 4yrs with Peter but once she gave up her virginity 2 weeks later he breaks up with her, its been 2yrs since she's been with anyone she's insecure, failing her veterarinan classes, feels like a failure, wanting to stir thing's up she goes to a bar wanting a one night stand. Jenna meets Connor gorgeous, hot, one night no strings attached tryst is what she wanted it was scorching hot, he wakes to find her gone, she goes to meet Dick who is her mom Vanessa's her lastest husband for lunch, when Connor show up their both shocked to see each other finding out their step brother/sister. I definitely recommend to get this intense forbidden spicy romance the journey Jenna & Connor take you is full of pushing one another, humor, compassion, protectiveness, twists that keeps you reading to the end such great characters that pulls you right into all their intense drama. FANTASTIC HOT STEAMY FORBIDDEN ROMANCE I LOVE IT 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
Jenna is struggling in veterinary school, so at her advisor's suggestion she takes the summer off to sort things out. Connor, a newly minted security contractor and recently discharged after a harrowing army career, is also at loose ends.
It's been a two year dry spell for Jenna, and while out at a bar looking to hook up, she enters Connor's orbit and they have a scintillating one night stand.
Shortly after, at a luncheon to meet her mother’s latest husband, Jenna is shocked to find that Connor is her new stepbrother.
They agree to continue to hook up on the DL, but Connor's PTSD and Jenna's abysmal self confidence have them both hitting the pause button.
Can they weather the emotional, mental, and familial storms and get their HEA?
I was furnished an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel and I'm sharing my honest thoughts.
Jenna is looking for a one night stand and she finds it with Connor. But the next day she gets a big surprise when she finds out Connor is her new stepbrother - assuming their parent’s marriage actually lasts (they are both doubtful!). They keep their relationship a secret but what starts as a benefits-only arrangement, quickly becomes a friends-with-benefits arrangement. Jenna opens up more and more to Connor but she knows he is holding back. Will he ever be able to open up to her about his life and the reason why he left the military? This book touches on PTSD and the value of therapy.
I did read the first book in this series and liked it but I think this works as a stand alone. I liked the two main characters.
OMG!! I wasn’t expecting this at all!! The chemistry!! Jenna and Connor’s story was intense, little forbidden and whole lot of spice. I love how they are with each other, they are funny, compassionate and protective. They really pushed each other’s boundaries, but also took care of each. I really enjoyed their story and can’t wait to read more!
I voluntarily leave an honest review of this Advanced copy
Cadence has managed to take a one-night stand turned horror story and give you this gem! Fiery and hot, sweet and touching, Connor and Jenna can melt your heart with how cute and thoughtful they are and then have you sweating the next second as their chemistry takes over. An absolute delight to read with a fast pace, cameos from previous books, and a couple who just give each other exactly what the other needs.
Wanting to have a one night stand and end up sleeping with your new step brother. Love this. The instant chemistry and the sort of forbidden trope(even though they didn't know they were step siblings at that time. Love the writing style and the chemistry between them. Dying to tell so much more, but i know I hate it when books get spoiled. But boy are you in for a ride reading this one. Steamy, funny, romantic, sexy, steamy and so much more Can't wait for the next book to come out
The story about Connor & Jenna is interesting. However, as their story evolves I was very frustrated by Jenna's lack of trust and support for Connor. Yes, she had her own issues to deal with but she really let him down when he needed her. It was satisfying when they were able to find their happily ever after. Even though not my favorite, I love Cadence's writing and story telling so will read everything she writes.
This book was a great addition to the series. The main characters, Jenna and Conner, were good people that you rooted for immediately in the story. Both had some problems with their parents and some other issues, but they overcome the drama in order to find love together.
Overall, this is a sweet story, but be prepared for a bit of heat!
I enjoyed this book. Jenna and Connor were hot from the very start. You can feel the chemistry from them both from the beginning. Having a one night stand turns complicated though as they soon discover their parents are married to each other. Seeing them navigate their feelings and what life throws at them made for a good story. I will be reading more from this other in the future.
Connor and Jenna- their parents were getting married only to get divorced. Perfect strangers that had a one night stand happened to be step siblings. Their connection was great from the start and Connor looking to change and open up to Jenna about his time in the army was amazing to read. I loved their chemistry and their vibe. Short, sweet book.
Absolutely enjoyed this book! I loved Jenna and Connor. I can just imagine her horror when she meets her new stepbrother and finds out it is her one night stand. Connor and Jenna are tasked with planning the reception for her mother and his dad’s new marriage. This close proximity ignites the flames of attraction between these two that already exist. Loved the chemistry between these two.
Conner & Jenna have an intriguing story. However, as their story evolved, I was very frustrated by Jenna's lack of support and trust in Conner. While she has her own emotional trauma, she really let him down when he needed her. When they finally found their future together, it was rewarding and heartwarming. While maybe not my favorite, I love Cadence's writing and will read whatever she writes.
Fabulous read. I really enjoyed this Steamy Forbidden Romance story. It is part of the Breaking the Rules series. This is Jenna and Connor's story, I liked the depth of these characters.. This was a hot and steamy read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
This book made me smile and cry. I don’t know PTSD firsthand but I thought the depiction and handling of it in the book was superb. I fell for the characters and went along on the roller coaster ride of emotions.
I couldn’t wait for this after reading book 1 (Only a Kiss). I needed Jenna’s story and it did not disappoint. Cadence is so good at just sucking you into her books. Jenna is wary of love after her four year relationship went sour, she’s having a hard time in school and took a break. She also has some insecurities caused by her break up. She wanted one night, no strings. Connor, oh man he’s just amazing! Their one night was Ah-maz-ing!!! He takes every chance he can to show her how he sees her and shows her she is amazing. I really loved that. Their relationship has some hiccups but man they really are great together and you could feel it. I definitely recommend this!
how do we get a connor in our life? when jenna is still reeling from her failed relationship, in comes connor to make it all better. with the guise of just being a fling, he slowly melts her defenses and brings them closer to each other. i really like how the writer effortlessly pulls you in and lets you feel like you are part of the story. nice read!
