And when a murder occurs at Tilly’s new workplace, proving her innocence gets even harder.

4.5/5 ⭐️ Ok - this is one is my favourite in the series so far! All the drama, some suspense, the angst and trust issues. So good. Alright - Tilly is back in her home town after being run out of town 5 years ago - after her father stole money from a lot of the towns people and took off. After her mother’s recent passing, she decided to come back home. However it is not a happy return, with her father in the wind, the people have decided to take their distrust and anger out on Tilly. This also includes - Kayden. The broody brother with trust issues who is not happy about having to work with Tilly after what his family lost due to her father. On top of that - there’s just been an “unaliving” on the mountain where they are working, and other attacks and mysterious occurrences keep happening. Can Kayden learn to trust Tilly in time to save the day? Or will the past constantly pull them apart?
As someone who has read 𝐍𝐲𝐬𝐬𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐲𝐧‘s entire backlist, I LOVED this book! It’s easily in my top 3 of all her books.
Tilly has come back to her childhood town after her mother died and left her the house she grew up in. She’s ready to start over, but the town doesn’t want her there. Her father scammed a lot of people out of their life savings years ago, and in their eyes, she’s always going to be her father’s daughter. My heart BROKE for Tilly as she just tried to overcome her past and build a future.
One of the men who was left in shambles after what her father did, was Kayden Walker’s father. Now Kayden has to work with Tilly at the local visitor center. He is a retired special forces soldier who now works as a search and rescue member. He doesn’t want Tilly there, but once he starts to see Lily’s struggles, he can’t help but feel protective of her. When someone close to them is murdered, everyone becomes a suspect.
The spicy tension between Tilly and Kayden was great! He didn’t want to want her, but when he gave in, the book got HEATED.
As always, I am left patiently waiting for Nyssa’s next book! If you love romantic suspense novels, go add 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭, and ALL of Nyssa Kathryn’s backlist to your TBR!
This book is aggressively Fine - not bad, but there's nothing special or memorable about it, I forgot the characters' names the instant I finished it. It's small town romantic suspense in 3rd person POV. It's book 2 in a series, but I didn't read book 1 and I wasn't confused, it's fine as a standalone.
But, it does hit the spot for an angsty micro trope I like: when an entire town wrongfully hates the heroine and is really mean to her for stuff that's not her fault. In this case, the heroine's father stole money from a bunch of townspeople. Her family left afterwards, but now she's returning years later. Everyone is mean to her, because they blame her for her father's actions.
This book also had 2 scenes that are catnip to me, within that microtrope: 1) The heroine has to go to the hospital, and they refuse to treat her, and make her wait for hours and hours, until the hero learns this is happening, gets mad, storms in, and shames them. A similar scene was in Angel and I ate it up in that book, too. And 2) The heroine has returned to her late mom's old house, and it's in bad shape - and local electricians and contractors refuse her service when she calls them to fix it. So, she's living in a cold drafty house. And the hero eventually hears about that, gets angry, and fixes it for her.
It's also got a mini betrayal / grovel element, when the hero briefly (and very predictably) has a moment where he acts like everyone else in town and assumes the heroine must be working with her father, then has to get her to trust him again after that. It doesn't take up a lot of space in the book and it could have been angstier, but it's there.
So this book was forgettable and average, but it did scratch the itch for that stuff, which I was in the mood for.
i actually loved this alot! the audiobook was excellent. this was romantic and crazy and the suspense part was excellence. i'm excited for the next book & i'll def listen to the first book now
I’ve read enough romantic suspense books that I basically know how everything is going to play out. The characters and the plot are very formulaic. With this genre, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as these books are slowly becoming a comfort read for me. However, I don’t think this was as good as the first book. I just found the MMC’s actions to be slightly over the top. His attitude towards Tilly also bothered me. He was so hot and cold with her and I thought she deserved better.
The FMC was the highlight of the book for me though. I admired her so much. The entire town treated her terribly, but she held her head high and tried her best not to let it affect her. Her resiliency and determination were some of her best qualities. I’m also really excited for Eastern’s book next!
Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Ever since finishing 𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆, & seeing glimpses of Tilly & Kayden, I couldn't wait for this one. I was so excited to get to listen to it! Just like I knew, it did not disappoint!
I adored Tilly from the start. Cast out by the town, because of her father's sins, she is struggling to make a home in her hometown, after many years away. My heart ached for her so many times! I wanted to wrap her up in a hug & not let go! Especially, when a murder takes place & instantly, she's a suspect.
Kayden Walker. Bless him! I adored him, as well. He fought hard to not see Tilly as anything more than the daughter of the man who stole from his family, but he absolutely melted for her! His heart thawed for her when he stepped back and saw how she was being treated, and what a fun time 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 was! He just had to let the walls crumble and see that trusting isn't a bad thing!
The chemistry between Kayden & Tilly is absolutely off the charts. The suspenseful aspects of the story kept me on the edge of my seat many times! The ending of the story has me literally thirsty for the book 3!
Now, can we talking about the best narrating duo? 𝐽𝑎𝑠𝑜𝑛 𝐶𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑘𝑒 is always the man I was to see narrating a growly, grumpy character and he nailed it with Kayden. 𝐴𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑠 has the voice that will calm you and she was epic as 𝑇𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑦. Together these two brought this complexity of a story to life and I am so glad I got to listen!
Again, I am absolutely thirsty for book 3. With roller coasters of emotion, twists of suspense & sizzling chemistry, this book is going on my highly recommended list!
**Reckless Trust**, the second book in Nyssa Kathryn's Reckless series, is a gripping small-town romance filled with suspense and emotional depth. Tilly Taylor returns to Misty Peak after her mother's death, only to face the town's animosity due to her father's past crimes. As she becomes a suspect in a theft and murder, Kayden Walker, whose family was also wronged by Tilly's father, steps in to protect her. Their journey is fraught with distrust and budding affection.
Nyssa Kathryn's engaging writing style and vivid descriptions make the story and characters come alive. The hostile atmosphere of Misty Peak is balanced by the supportive Harper and Walker families, adding complexity to the narrative. **Reckless Trust** is a well-written, romantic suspense that hooks you from the start and leaves you eager for more. A solid 4-star read that has me looking forward to exploring the rest of the series.
Reckless Trust is book two in the Reckless series by Nyssa Kathryn. Tilly Taylor was happy to return home to Misty Peak after her mother died. However, for Tilly, the homecoming was not what she expected. The hatred for her father, after he stole money from the families of Misty Peak, was transferred to her, and she became the prime suspect when cash went missing and the murder of her colleague. When Kayden Walker learned how the Misty Peak residence was treading Tilly, he stepped in to protect her even though her father had taken all his father's money. Will Kayden and Tilly get together, or will luck of trust and the people of Misty Peak destroy them? The readers of Reckless Trust will continue to follow Kayden Walker and Tilly Taylor to discover the answers.
I enjoy Nyssa Kathryn's writing style and how she portrays her characters. Reckless Trust continues the tradition with Nyssa Kathryn's books, an engaging romantic suspense book that hooked me from the first page with the story and the characters, which continues to the end. I love Nyssa Kathryn's portrayal of her characters and how they interact throughout this book. Reckless Trust is well-written and researched. I like Nyssa Kathryn's description of Reckless's settings, which allows me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
The readers of Reckless Trust will learn about the role and importance of having good and reliable search and rescue teams when dealing with remote wilderness areas. They will also understand the devastation that addiction has on the person and everyone around them.
Thank you to the Author for my ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this book.
Ultimately I don’t think this author is for me. I wanted to like this book and thought it had some potential at the beginning. I was even okay with Kayden’s asshole moment because it gave Tilly a chance to have a backbone and actually stick up for herself. But nope. The author decided less than a week was enough time for Tilly to pathetically crawl back to Kayden aka the most surface level of MMCs I’ve read in awhile. Obviously these two would have ended up together at the end regardless of what happened but the author could have made him really work for it and apologize. The lack of backbone in Tilly was enough for me to DNF this one.
Maltilda isn't a small town girl who yearns to leave for the big city and bright lights. No. She's a girl, disgraced by her money-stealing dad, who disguised himself as a safe, trustworthy broker, only to steal from hardworking families and force Matilda and her mom to face their wrath. Matilda is the small town girl who leaves and tries to return, rebuilding her life in the only place that has ever felt like home.
Matilda, or now...Tilly, a woman grown, comes back to Misty Peak, taking up a job at the town welcome center, a job which most of the townsfolk resent her for having and a job that puts her in contact with the sheriff's office and search and rescue units. This means she has to face a family that is one of her father's victims: the Walker family.
The Walkers are a family of made up of one sister(?) and a team of 4-5 sons; they lost their family home and land due to Tilly's father's greed and theft. However, as all are adults, the sons all having served in the military or as protective services, and all having well-to-do lives, livelihoods, and money, the Walkers boys are the town's favorite sons--most wanted bachelors, one having fallen, in the previous book, to a newcomer damsel in peril.
Protectors! All of them. So you have the small town trope, protector, not-so-ott alpha heroes, and the women who can't help but feel safe with them, and want to have their babies. hahahahaha. I read these because they are stories so far from my life. Fantasy.
Anywhoo, Kayden Walker, a search and rescue ranger (I think) wants no parts of Tilly (Matilda Taylor, daughter of the towns' thief Martin Taylor). But Tilly makes moves that has her in direct communication with his job and also she becomes a friend of Kayden's sister-in-law, so seeing her means inevitably he becomes attracted to her and wants her, only this wars with the fact that she is the daughter of the man who stole from his family.
Tilly becomes a damsel in peril, a murder happens, and other weird shit keeps happening, some of which either points to Tilly needing help OR Tilly being the culprit, along with her father, who rears his disgusting head.
Tilly cannot win for losing because on one hand she is tits-up-over-heels for Kayden, while Kayden is willing to get horizontal but is hedging about becoming deeper, her father is threatening her, and someone is trying their best to sabotage her.
The suspense was suspen-zing but had a wild-goose-chase element that made it both frustrating and almost comical in the reveal.
3 stars, as with the first one. It was another typical small town read, with good Peyton Place like drama, cozy characters, and just enough to keep interest.
I liked this one even better than the first one in the series! (and I enjoyed Reckless Hope)
Kayden Walker is the oldest, grumpiest, most distrustful of all the Walker brothers. When the woman whose father destroyed his family home and robbed the town of Misty Peak blind returns to town, determined to carry out her late mother's final wishes, he is as angry and suspicious as the rest of the town. When he finds out she's going to be his new boss at the Smoky Mountains visitors' center where he heads up the search & rescue team, he is beside himself. But... it's in the Walker genes to be protective, and when Tilly becomes not just a pariah in town that's already on edge because of a gruesome murder near the visitors' center, but is physically threatened, Kayden reluctantly becomes her savior.
It is not smooth sailing for these two. Mistakes are made as their relationship progresses, takes a turn for the worse, and then moves forward again. But Kayden is her safe space, her home. And Tilly is the heart and hope that teaches this grump how to love and trust again.
Kayden and Tilly, well that was a wild ride in Misty Peak. I have been waiting for their book since their first interaction in book one of the series. They had a chemistry and a tension that is palpable and it’s still there. He doesn’t wanna have the feelings that he has for her, but he can’t help himself. She has wormed her way under his skin, and she ain’t leaving anytime soon. She’s a very strong willed person. Who knows what she wants and is confident. Kayden is a brooding man who has so many complex layers. So I love watching their interactions, and watching her slowly peeled back, all of his layers. Their friendship is reluctant, but it develops into so much more than either of them ever expected. They have some struggles, boy did they ever. The chips are stacked against them for sure, but they figure out how to make it work, and they are stronger for it. They get their happily ever after in this beautiful, glorious love story. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Book two in the Reckless series, following the Walker Brothers. It is Tilly who steals this book. Tilly is the strongest, bravest heroine I have read in a while. She has not had it easy, and she has returned home to reclaim her peace, the mountains. Five years ago, her father stole from the town, and she lost it all. Returning, she is blamed for her father's actions. But things keep happening, dangerous events, and someone is trying to frame Tilly. When will it stop?
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
I was really excited to dive into her story, but unfortunately, I feel like it fell a little flat. The enemies to lovers trope felt a little rushed and understated- I feel it could have done better with more slow burn and a gradual earning of trust (on both of their parts). Kayden felt a little surface level, especially considering his lack of knowing of what he wanted from Tilly in the beginning. And honestly, my heart broke for her time and time again. The story does end with a HFN (but I feel because of how much loss she went through, a HEA would have been sweeter).
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’m getting so invested in Misty Peak and all the Walker men. Tillie sure deserved some kindness and I was thrilled when Kayden stepped up. I love the mystery within this novel.
You get it all… small town, relatable women, strong men, mystery and some murder.
I was desperately waiting for Tilly & Kayden’s book. It did not disappoint at all. The writing was so good, i felt Tilly’s heartbreak, suffering, injustice for her father’s crimes. I was mad at town’s people & at some point Kayden for her. But at the end he redeemed himself. Al though wish there was more from town gossipers, but still was satisfied at the end. Kayden’s struggle between his head & heart was so good, he didn’t stand a chance against Tilly. Just took a little longer to have his feelings straight.
This book was given to me as a gift of ARC for my honest review. I have always lived Nyssa’s books & wait for it to be released & can always finish it within a day.
Story was somewhat compelling, but the grovel was practically nonexistent and unfortunately I’m a huge fan of the grovel so this was especially disappointing to me. Tilly was a true damsel in distress and I get she lacked love but I don’t think she should have been so desperate for it either. Literally took back Kayden after just five pages. Her character is the poster child for suffer-in-silence jellyfish. To top it off, Kayden’s “next time I’ll be better please forgive me” schtick felt so patronizing and disingenuous. Personally thought none of the mild spice really made up for it.
💙 Romantic Suspense 💙 Small Town 💙 Second Chance 💙 Protector 💙 Former Military
Tilly Taylor is a sweet girl who was born and raised in Misty Peak. Tilly’s father stole everyone’s money and took off, leaving her and her mom to pay for his sins. After many years and the death of her mom, Tilly returns to Misty Peak and begins working at the visitors center. Kayden Walker is a grumpy guy with a big heart and a lot of trust issues. He is former military, the current leader of the SAR team and works at the visitors center giving tours. Kayden didn’t date, because no woman ever made him want more than one night. At least not until he met Tilly.
Everyone in town treats Tilly poorly because of what her father did. Lots of aggressive glares and barely even a hello…the way they all looked at her made her feel like a bug to be squashed under their shoes. Initially, Kayden even acts like he hates but deep down he can’t seem to stay away from her. Tilly found Kayden to be extremely attractive and she might have “ogled him, in a didn’t-even-try-to-hide-it kind of way.”
Kayden witnessed the struggles Tilly was dealing with and felt the need to protect and help her. Tilly would never ask for help but didn’t push him away when he wouldn’t take no for an answer. “Even though she tried to come off as tough, he saw the fragility beneath her exterior, but he also struggles with the fact that he can’t trust her.”
After a local girl is stabbed to death near the visitors center, everyone is pointing fingers at who the murderer is and unfortunately Tilly is considered a suspect. Strange things keep happening to Tilly and she must learn who she can trust and rely on while trying to decide if Misty Peak is where she wants to stay. Kayden has to learn to deal with his trust issues if he wants to have a future with Tilly.
Reckless Trust had me captured from the very beginning. It’s full of action, suspense, lots of love, beautiful friendships and an amazing found family. Nyssa Kathryn does such an amazing job of writing stories are strong and protective men who will do anything to take care of the people they love. Not only do I feel the suspense of the story but I feel the love between the characters and don’t want to put the book down.
Quotes - “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.” - “he’d known exactly what it would be like if they got together, right from the first time they’d met. He’d just been running from it. Because he’d known the second he had her, the second she became his, there’d be no shifting back.” - “Why are you staring at me, Till?” “Anyone else and I would have written them off after what happened, but with you, I can’t. And I’m not sure why.” … “Because you know that there’s a lot more to our story still to be told.” - “You make me want to be the man you deserve.”
Reckless Trust Reckless, Book 2 By: Nyssa Kathryn Narrated by: Avery Caris, Jason Clarke
Nyssa Kathryn blows me away with another amazing novel “Reckless” series, a romantic suspense that keeps you thinking and brings you to the edge of your seat. The story grabbed my attention, captivating it the entire time, and nothing around me mattered except what was going to happen next. Matilda “Tilly” Taylor returned to her childhood home in Misty Peak after her mother’s passing, and she wanted the comfort of home and the memories it brought her. She and her mom left after her father, Martin, scammed and stole from locals who gave them grief. Neither she nor her mother was involved or aware of his scheme, yet they blamed them too and several of them still do and give Tilly a hard time making her feel like an outcast. Kayden Walker’s dad was one of Martin Taylor’s victims and he lost everything, including their childhood home, so he finds it difficult to not hate on his daughter, who he needs to see at work. Kayden had trust issues to begin with, but his walls crumple when he sees how Tilly is being treated by the other townsfolk. I loved how everything played out in this book, also loved the depth and all the layers of this story, as well as the complexity of the characters. As always, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. The chemistry between them is smoking hot, and I thought they were great together and for each other. Besides the relationship drama and the hate she is dealing with, there is a murder investigation going on, a murder that hit close to home and then her father who is on the run tries to reach out to her after not speaking to him for over five years. This exciting and action packed romantic suspense has the perfect balance of heart and heat. Nyssa Kathryn, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Avery Caris and Jason Clarke deliver an outstanding performance, bringing the characters to life, humanizing them, giving each a voice that was fitting to their personality and demeanor. I loved how they owned their roles, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Caris’ Tilly was perfection and Clarke was just as amazing as Kayden, and both were equally wonderful in performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These mega talented voice artists are entertaining storytellers and their performance elevated this already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.
I read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it, so I moved straight onto this book! I was excited about who the main characters were going to be because their story kind of started in the first book! After reading, I can say that I really enjoyed this book! The plot held my attention all the way through and I found myself reading a few more chapters every chance I had! I loved the direction the plot went in and it kept me invested! There was a lot of romance in the plot and I loved the way it developed because the characters knew each other before starting a romantic relationship! The romance allowed for some steamy scenes between the characters as well! There was also a lot of action and suspense in the plot, which added a lot to it and made me enjoy it more! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Tilly was the main female character, and she had returned to her hometown in this book! I felt for Tilly because she was blamed for what her father had done and she was treated like rubbish from people that lived in the town! I loved Tilly and she was strong! Kayden was the main male character and love interest of Tilly! Kayden was a mountain rescuer and it was dangerous, but he knew the mountains like the back of his hand! It was easy to see that Kayden had strong feelings for Tilly and he tried to resist, but he couldn't! He also made some mistakes when it came to Tilly, but he proved how much Tilly meant to him! This book was written from both Tilly and Kayden’s point of views! I was obviously expecting it to be because the first book was written this way! The synopsis gives the impression that it’s going to be as well! I loved that it was because it helped me connect with both characters and see their feelings for each other develop! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as Tilly and Kayden didn’t spend every second of the plot together and they were both going through their own situations! Like the first book this book was written in third person, which I normally don't like, but I think I might have found another author who writes their books this way and I enjoy them lol! I now can't wait to read the next book in this series! I'm intrigued by the main male character, so I cant wait to get inside his head and read his story! The next book has already released, so ill definitely be picking it up right away and I'm really looking forward to seeing what's going to happen! The cover for this book is also absolutely stunning! I love how well it suits the cover for the cover for the first book and it would draw me to the book! The cover models are also the perfect Tilly and Kayden!
Cute! 3rd act breakup. I don’t think she made him grovel enough but I understood.

RECKLESS TRUST from Author Nyssa Kathryn is the second in her romantic suspense Reckless Series and stands-a-lone very nicely after the first book RECKLESS HOPE, although I have to say that maximum enjoyment of the series is derived if both books are read in order.
While reading my way through, one thought stood out strongly in my mind. It’s a quote both from the bible and William Shakespeare and rings true to the centre of Tilly’s story...
“The sins of the father are to be laid upon the children.”
They most certainly were. Tilly’s father had been an investment broker, but instead of investing the money, he skipped town with it instead leaving people without their life savings. The Walker family were only one of many whom suffered and they made life so difficult for Tilly and her mother that they left to start over new leaving people to make the worst kind of assumptions.
When Tilly returned, and the vilification was as strong as ever and Kayden’s feeling of condemnation were as strong as ever. He believed the girl who had once intrigued him, was as guilty as her father. It was only when things started to turn bad in events surrounding her that Kayden realised those initial feelings from way back had returned. She brought out the protectiveness in him.
I found RECKLESS TRUST to be a reasonably quick read that moved at a huge pace and kept engaged from cover to cover. I picked it up at every opportunity, resenting things like ‘life and stuff’ that dared interfere with my reading pleasure. And I always find without doubt that Ms Kathryn’s books are indeed a pleasure to be reading.
A great continuation of the Reckless series with great characters and I definitely I look forward to the next book. 5-Small-Town-Big-Protector-Romance-Stars 💛💙✦
Settle in with some tissues because holy moly emotions! Tilly Taylor moved back to Misty Peak hopeful that she can make peace with the townspeople that her father had swindled out of their life savings and retirements 5 years prior. Instead of mending fences with the people, she’s met with cold shoulders and refusal of contract work when her vandalised house is in need of repair. Kayden Walker is ex military, and loves his job on a Search and Rescue for the mountains around Misty Peak visitor centre where Tilly works. Kayden struggles with trust, especially as Tilly’s father and Martin Taylor were friends before Martin took everything from the Walker family while their dad was suffering ill health. He feels the pull to Tilly but struggles getting past who she is and what she represents, despite her not being involved in her fathers schemes. When a mysterious death occurs in their beloved mountains, and emotions run high in the small town, fingers start getting pointed towards Tilly as her arrival sparks many of the misdeeds and old feelings die hard. My heart broke for Tilly multiple times throughout the book because all she needed was a friend, for someone to believe in her. Will Kayden be able to see past his own walls to see the truth? Their friendship turned relationship turned friendship is filled with so much angst I found myself struggling with the emotional rollercoaster but man what a RIDE! Loved this books, read it in 24 hours and was late to a party for not being able to put it down! Nyssa Kathryn takes her books and magically transports you to these wonderful towns with characters that you want to know and heartfelt stories that pull you in from the first sentence. Absolutely wonderful!
I give this one a thumbs up. I liked it quite a bit though it was close but didn’t quite make love it. I might read it again someday.
About five years previous to the start of this book, Tilly’s father embezzled from quite a few of the small town families, took everything there was to take from Tilly and her mother and hasn’t been heard of since. Tilly and her mother were blamed and forced to leave town.
But now Tilly is back. She misses the mountains and her home town, but very few of the citizens welcome her, still blaming her for what her father did even though she lost everything. There has been a recent murder of a young woman and some think she must be involved. She has a job as director of the mountain park.
Kaden, our hero is the team leader of the search and rescue team and their group also leads hikes. His family was one of those affected and at first he’s very bitter towards Tilly but he fells bad that the town is making things almost impossible for her and begins helping her. As he gets to know and develop feelings he sees that she couldn’t have had anything to do with her father’s disappearance or the recent murder.
I liked both Tilly and Kaden. He becomes her hero even though a couple of times he screws up big. And Tilly is the damsel in distress that needs rescuing. This is a trope I enjoy. I see this is a frequent trope with the author, it’s in a number of her books. This a a pretty good romantic suspense as whoever murdered the young woman seems to be setting their sights on Tilly. This is the second book in a series about Kaden Walker and is two brothers though it also works fine as a standalone. I’m looking forward to the third book.
Ahhh, this book! Tilly absolutely broke my heart. Her strength and determination were amazing considering everything she had to endure. She had so many struggles to contend with, including the animosity of the entire town for her father’s past sins. All she wants is a fresh start in the town she grew up in, the place she loved, Misty Peak. Her one friend was her saving grace until Kayden finally saw the real her. But one horrible tragedy brought the past screaming back to the present and all eyes are on her again.
Kayden had always been drawn to Tilly and despite the circumstances and the anger he held towards her father, he couldn’t deny those feelings were still there when she returned to town. He didn’t trust her though, and he tried to fight it. Yet circumstances kept pulling them together until he finally sees her and what she’s been going through. Just when their fragile bond starts to form, an incident occurs pointing fingers and he’s caught between the past and present when old heartaches war with his developing feelings. One wrong mistake and he’ll lose the future he never knew he wanted.
“You make me want to be the man you deserve.”
The tension is high in Kayden and Tilly’s story as they both fight the past and present to find happiness. It’s a page turner from beginning to end and will keep you on your toes. Full of suspense, mystery, drama, family, hardship, love, second chances, and more. Another great book in the series, definitely recommend.
*I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest reivew.
Nyssa Kathryn’s Reckless series seems to get more endearing and entertaining with each book, and book two is certainly a fantastic example of that. Reckless Trust revolves around the romance between Kayden Walker, one of the town’s favorite sons, and Tilly Taylor, who—through no fault of her own—is one of the town’s most infamous residents. Kayden definitely did not expect to fall for the woman he’d been more likely to see as an enemy than a love interest. After what Tilly’s father did to the Walker family, trust does not come easily to Kayden, especially when it comes to Tilly Taylor. But Tilly’s innate goodness and strength of heart eventually wins him over, though not with some ups and downs. Add to that the fact that a killer’s loose on their beloved mountain, and their road to an HEA is anything but easy. But nothing worth having comes easily, and their love is definitely worth the fight.
This story is narrated by the incredible talents of Avery Caris and Jason Clarke. Avery Caris’s performance as Tilly is inspired, effortlessly portraying this character’s balancing act between hope and doubt as she navigates life as the apparent pariah of the hometown she loves so much. And Jason Clarke is absolute perfection as Kayden Walker, bringing this character to life expertly, showcasing this character’s inner turmoil and vulnerability. Together, they elevate this wonderful story to another level, making this title an absolute must listen!
Be warned, Tilly will make you want to cry. She’s so strong and is trying so hard, but home is anything but welcoming to her. She’s the most hated woman in town for something she didn’t even do, but severely misplaced anger won’t let people acknowledge that. She’s been neglected, harmed, intimidated, hated, and she still wakes up every morning to try her best all over again. And Kayden is one of the problem people, too. At first, anyway.
As much as Kayden wants to pretend that there is no feeling for Tilly beyond disgust and hate, he also can’t stop wanting her. When she’s hurting, he hurts. But he also lets his temper fly when she truly needs him, which could ruin any chance at forever. I will give his brothers credit because they know Tilly. They see her. And they’re not afraid to hand Kayden some serious anger and disappointment when they realize how much he’s hurt someone who doesn’t deserve it. Kayden also gives a darn good grovel while proving that he absolutely believes in Tilly.
The questions are answered. The danger definitely comes calling for Tilly. And she finally gets some peace along with the love of a good man who wants to give her the world. Thanks to all of this, I read this book in one sitting and am already wishing for the next brother’s story because I NEED it!
