Many women who are subjected to abuse from their partners or children do not understand what is happening to them. The do not need therapy but they do need the information they are given when they attend the Freedom Programme. This is a rolling group work course which informs and empowers women in this situation. It can also help to identify warning signs in a new relationship. It also explains how children are affected by domestic abuse and how their lives can improve after the abuser is removed. also It must be used in conjunction with Pat Craven’s book ‘Living with the Dominator’. This manual contains details instructions on how to facilitate the Freedom Programme which is based upon the author’s experience in working with violent offenders when she was a probation officer in the UK.
