Story 3 stars Narration 4.5 stars This was a novella about a Valentines Day meeting between an immortal woman and the mortal man that is helping her with a teenage girl that is being tracked by a bad vampire who already changed the girl against her wishes. The two take her down into the sewer tunnels to keep anyone from finding her. They, of course, do come out of the tunnels.
This was unlike any other Argeneau book I’ve read by this author. Because it’s a novella, the action was quick. I was expecting some kind of drama or life and death stuff but no. Sorry if that’s a spoiler, but I felt like you need to know. There is lust, but no actual sex scene, some almost stuff. The teenage girl is a brat, but has a horrible backstory. Even that didn’t forgive some of her actions for me. It just wasn’t like any of these books at all and I was disappointed. Some suspense or even humor would have gone a long way to save this, but no. I was bored and I hate that since I’ve enjoyed almost all the books in this series.
I enjoyed it. I was curious how they had met since they were mentioned in previous books and I’m glad that I got to see Stephanie as a kid since I think her book was the second or third one I had read in the series. It was nice and short but still believable. I think it ended well and Lucien as always was a pleasure lol
A sweet little interlude between Mirabeau and Tiny. While escorting Stephanie to Port Henry, these Argeneau adjacent characters discover their mate bond as they get to know each other during less-than-ideal circumstances.
