Honey Baines met True at a time when her world was falling apart. And while she appreciates him she doesn’t love him. While she’s waiting to fall True is falling deeper. Years and an engagement later Honey still feels the same and she knows she has to do something about it. Honey thinks she’s broken. Until she meets Banks Hayes and he evokes feelings in her she didn’t know she could possess. This only adds to her troubles and Honey is torn….until skeletons start falling out of True’s closet and she wonders if she knows him at all. Banks did three years in prison and with no plans to return to the game he finds two jobs and enrolls in college. Leveling up in life and being there for his sons are his only focus until he meets Honey. He’s enthralled with her but she belongs to somebody else.
Honey is engaged but, she doesn’t want to marry her fiancé. When she and True started dating, he wooed her with his deep pockets and, considering she was in a financial bind at the time, she willingly accepted all the money he tossed her way. When True proposed, Honey realized, no matter how hard she tried to force it, she just wasn’t in love with him. But, she felt obligated to say yes because of everything True had done for her and how he helped her mama. Six months after True put a ring on it, Honey still hasn’t picked out a venue, the colors for the wedding, the invitations, or even the save the date and he’s starting to get suspicious. After doing a three year bid, Banks has no plans on ever going back to jail. He got himself a job, a legal side hustle, and he enrolled in school to get his accounting degree. As luck would have it, Honey and Banks are in the same math class and strike up a friendship. These two are unaware of the connection they have to each other but, once it’s revealed, things starts to get ugly real fast. I was not prepared for how quickly this book went left. It got extremely dark and all kinds of shyt started poppin’ off. Kidnappin’, a possible murder, and family betrayal. Be prepared to be shooketh. That’s all I’ma say.
I had to check this out, as the synopsis pulled me in. But chile I was not at all ready for the drama, intrigue, and crazy I got with this thang here! 😤
Honey, girl…… just because a man helps you out, and puts you in a good financial position, does not mean you owe him a damn thing. Especially marriage! You ran off a list of things that bother you about him, and most of all the part that you do not love him. The small package, quick finishes, not satisfying you, and that wasn’t enough to say no to his proposal? 👀 You feel obligated to him because of all that he has done for you, but that is not love. Ma’am, please find what you want in a man, not just accept what you need. Why settle? He is not what you want.
Now when Honey met Banks, she felt an immediate spark, and her body was betraying her by lusting after this man. That should have told her something right there! There was a connection there and she was feeling him right from the start. Banks also was feeling Honey, but he wanted to respect her relationship.
I was already getting creep vibes about True, but when the waitress came to the table with that story, Honey, your Spidey senses should have overloaded and turned you into a detective. Maybe it's just me, but when my gut is screaming and something feels off, get the hell out! Damn his feelings! That kind heart of hers will be her downfall.
True and Banks being connected was crazy, but to find out what had gone down between them; I knew some ish was bout to go down. Especially when Banks found out Honey was with True, all bets were off!
That damn True was insecure, and a whole pyscho! My eyeballs almost bucked out of my head, when everything came out about what he had done, and was doing to women! Banks, Banks, Banks! Thank God he was smart and put a plan in place to keep Honey as safe as he could. Damn, this thang went left quick as hell, but I was here for all the messy! 😂
I wasn't ready for where this story went. It got extremely dark, but Banks was a light. I absolutely loved him and am so happy he was there to show up for Honey. True didn't even have to go out sad like that. And his mam can go where the sun don't shine.
A lot of drama and a blind girlfriend. I am not sure what was so unclear about who True was. And Banks, yes, he stole the girl. The thing with the drugs and depraved act near the end seemed whitewashed with the severity of the things done to Honey. 3.5 stars.
Loved it!!! Indeed she needed to be stolen. I really felt that True was a good guy but when he showed who he truly was all that went out the window!!! Banks is the man!!! Great read!!!
Star level: 5 stars Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Trope: black love, strangers to lovers, cheating, single dad Trigger warnings:, cheating, kidnapping, sex traffic, rape Fav quotes: “Even if we take some time apart, I don’t want this. Tension and anger. That’s not the kind of relationship that I want with you. We should be able to remain friends through whatever.” “Being in a relationship with the wrong person is way more stressful than having to pay my own bills and clean my own crib.” About the book: The title alone had me ready to dive head first in this book and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Honey is not the bad guy whatsoever she tried to give True her all it just didn’t click no matter how long they were together or what he did for her. Then here comes Banks and she is instantly smitten by him and she tries to fall back but nothing works. And one thing leads to another and a slip up happens 🙃 and she was ready to end it with True. But True wasn’t having it he was ready to force her to stay with him by any means necessary but Banks wasn’t haven’t he was ready to go all in with Honey and claim her. This book gave the feels and the drama that I needed the only down side is that I felt the ending was rushed and the story line with the sister could’ve been left out we learned nothing and she was just plain rude.
This was a good read. I loved how Honey realized she didn’t have to settle BUT oh how I wished she had realized it before the proposal and before being with that psycho for so long. I’m glad she also realized no amount of money was worth being with someone you don’t love. The fact that Honey and Banks had a friendship and vibe way before things went left was cute. My girl thought she was broken but it was that psycho True who was. Banks it sucked your cousin was such a f boy, but I’m glad you didn’t let the streets pull you back in. The fact that you were willing to do what was necessary so you were in your boys life was dope. You being there for Honey was such a breath of fresh air cause baby if looney and psychotic was a person it was True. I loved watching the relationship bloom with you and Honey. Honey I’m sorry you had to endure that disrespect from True, you didn’t deserve what happened but I’m happy you were saved. Lia, my God the hands you were dealt were the worst and I can’t even imagine the amount of healing you will need but I’m glad you were saved. Hurt people hurt people BUT love saves the day. Great read Miss Natisha!

That right one will come along to show what you missing !
This was a great read. True was absolutely the most triflin and disgusting f!*k boy if I’ve ever read about one. And his momma irritated my whole soul coddling him. Honey was trying to force her feelings for True because he had helped out so much, but she should’ve been left him. Banks had come and been doing right for himself and his sons after his cousin snitched on him. He had an instant attraction to Honey and she felt the same, but they were trying to do right because she was engaged. But heart wants what the heart wants. Their friendship had blossomed into pure love. Now, with all the secrets falling out of True’s closet made Honey decision easier and my mouth was on the floor at the lengths True went to try to keep control was crazy business smh. But everything worked out in the end and I’m happy for them. Great job as always Natisha ❤️
True was wild! If only he had lived up to his name smh! From jump the way Honey described him, he was simply too good to be true; pun intended! I didn't blame Banks one bit! Everytime I ran across True, he was getting his butt whooped! He tried it trying to send people after Banks and even failed at that! His mother was the worst talking bout her good son. Miss try go sit down and let him do his time with his wicked ways! If only Lia's family had kept on her disappearance. Whole time that fool had her under their nose! I loved Tavia's and Banks co parenting. I just hate how when they crossed the lines and she was expecting, it seemed as though she expected something to change between them! As sad as it may be, God doesn't make mistakes! Though it may seem shady, you can't help who you fall for. In their defense, they didn't even know there was a middle connection! Great read
Honey never talked about True, so Banks didn't know he was. Banks did his 3years in prison came home got in his kids life, enrolled in college. Tavia was something different,I can see that she wanted all kids to have the same father, I don't know if she was trying to blame Banks or get an attitude with him because she had a miscarriage, but I guess she has to someone. True has always been jealous of Banks. Honey stayed longer than she should have. Her mama should have quit babying Lalani because she is spoiled, selfish and self-centered. Lia's people tried to warn Honey about True she should have listened. Aunt Glo is one of those mama's who think their child can do no wrong. She didn't know that she was raising a psychopath. I was happy when Banks put her location on his phone, and saved Honey and Lia
This book was crazy.. We start off with Honey and I just love her for stepping up and being there for her mom while her mom was sick. Granted she has a sibling but she’s so self centered that she only cares about herself.
Reading this and getting to “know” True I could tell that he was grimy and wasn’t 💩. But to read what he did to his own cousin and then Lia oh baby he had to GO‼️
Banks was a dealer turned good and I applauded him for that because not a lot of men would go from getting money to working a regular job.
I dont want to give too much away but babyyyyy True was a grimyyyyyyy one and all imma say is if you’ll do your family dirty you’ll do anybody dirty 🫠
True wasn't just missing a few screws that man was missing the whole deck. We need to teach our daughters to listen to their intuition & stop trying to settle due to society standards. It's OK to be single. It's OK to end relationships (however, to how these men & women reacting when inform of break ups. There's no need for face to face let that woman/man sit on someone's couch for closure, y'all). Tavia was so wrong & knew what she was doing, smh, but God stepped in & resolved that mess. Banks changed his life and stood on his decisions.
Overall review:
It's a quick read & shows social issues, development, etc.
Whew! True was the worst—trifling, cowardly, and just plain trash. Karma couldn’t come for him fast enough. Now, Honey might’ve been wrong for stringing him along, but the way he treated her? Nah, nobody deserves that.
Enter Banks—a real man who handled his business and treated Honey right. Neither of them knew he and True were related, but honestly, it didn’t even matter. True was flawed from the start. Honey finally found the love and peace she deserved, and Banks? He deserved all the good coming his way, including her.
Tavia was a little salty, but she knew what it was from jump. Overall, this was an awesome read—shoutout to the author for delivering such a solid story!
Well Ms. Raynor has done it again. This was another entertaining hold your breath at the reveal type of book. In this story we follow Honey whose in engaged to a man (True) she doesn't love. In her class she meets Banks, a man who is good with numbers but equally skill at getting a women's heart rate up. These two form a friends that of course turns into more. PROBLEM yes the damn fiance she doesn't want. To not spoil it ill stop right here however that True reveal had my mouth open like WTF. I would recommend this read
This was an okay read for me. Honey was with True for years but didn’t really love him nor did she want to marry him ever though they were engaged. True loved her and tried to use his money to make her fall in love with him but there was still a disconnect. Honey was very attracted to Banks who ended up being True’s cousin who he had did dirty. True’s real self came out when Honey ended their relationship. This book needed an epilogue in my opinion to conclude Lia’s transition from captivity and how much time that True did receive.
WOW people are really insane when they can't have their way and feel like everyone owes them the world. That's exactly how Tru felt and his mother along with the cops filled his head up he thought he was untouchable. That's why they never put much effort into finding Leah, True was snitching on everyone and his mother was coddling him as if he was still a baby no one was holding him accountable. So happy when Banks did what he did and followed his guts because with the cops in his back pocket who knows if they would have ever found Honey.
True was definitely a snake in the grass. He snitched on anyone who was getting more than him and his mother coddled his every move. Honey was naive enough to think that she had to stay with True because he spent money on her, even though she didn’t love him. Banks came home from jail, beat True every time he saw him because True’s snitching landed him in jail and took his woman. In the end True finally got what he deserved and Lia was reunited with her family. The book was well written, flowed well and definitely kept my attention.
True was a coward and very trifling! Karma couldn't hit him fast enough. Honey may have been wrong for stringing him along, but nobody deserves the treatment he issued out! Banks was a real man who stood on business at all times. He nor Honey knew that True and Banks were related, but it doesn't change how flawed that True was. Honey finally found happiness, and she deserved it. Banks deserved everything that he was receiving, including Honey. Although Tavia was a little upset, she knew what it was from the beginning. Awesome read and job well done!
True was trifling and a total coward—karma couldn’t come fast enough. Honey wasn’t perfect for stringing him along, but she didn’t deserve how he treated her.
Banks was the complete opposite. A real man who handled things the right way. He and Honey didn’t even know he was related to True, but that didn’t change how terrible True was. Honey finally got the happiness she deserved, and Banks was the perfect match for her.
Tavia was a little mad, but she knew what it was. The story was really good—well written and kept me hooked!
My only gripe is that I wished we got an epilogue so we can take more time to see what happens with Honey and Banks. I would love to see how they navigate Honey meeting the kids, what happens with Honey and her sister, how did Lia far after reuniting with her family and most importantly we need the last days of True evil ass. Other than that I was very pleased with this story and glad I gave it a shot! You won’t be disappointed at all
I actually like books where the man come home from jail and gets his life in order. Imagine doing time in jail because your cousin snitched on you. Banks did his time in jail came home and focused on his kids, school, and making money the legal way. He met this beauty named Honey while attending school only to find out she is engaged to his snitching ahh cousin, True. Imma stop right here before I tell it all. Just go read it!
Imagine you end up doing a 3yr bid cause yo cousin a snitch and when you get out you decide on getting your life back together so you go to college end up hitting it off with a girl that sit next to you. Yall end up being close friends so she tell you she about to leave her fiancé so you end up cracking her back like a glow stick just to find out the next day at your auntie birthday party that she with your cousin. 😂🤭😊😊
3.5⭐️ - for Banks it was onsite every time he saw True! And honestly True deserved it for being trifling.
Banks and Honey had some interesting chemistry. After spending years with her Fiance Honey wasn’t sure if she knew what love was, but it was something about Banks that had her flustered.
The turn the story took with Lia and the depravity of True was a lot. Maybe I missed the CW. Either way this was a wiiiild ride. I think we got a HEA… sort of.
A good read with a well written storyline. The characters are well developed, interesting, and some are likeable. With a snake in common the attraction between the main two characters is strong with a good twist. I loved reading this book and as always this author delivered a five star read.
This book was definitely a great read because it gave the readers excitement and drama and passion and romance and hope. There are some violent sciences but the book was definitely well written. The storyline kept you turning the pages. Great penmanship Natasha Raynor.
This was a good book, I need me a Banks in my life he's charming, and respectable. Honey should've expressed her feelings to Tru sooner but I get it she didn't know how. I hope True get everything he deserves in prison. So happy Lia was found safely. cant wait to read what's next from this Author
It was a ok book. It wasn’t the worst book but it didn’t develop how I thought it would and the ending just was blah. I love the author but this book didn’t do it for me. Honey got on every nerve.True was a coward and it really wasn’t just due to the things he did and Banks deserved all things good but it didnt come together how I thought it would’ve
