Cabin Fever

Rate this book
Morgan Allen arrives at her first national trade show expecting to make a splash and a ton of sales. She didn’t expect her biggest rival, Shelby Howard, to be there, stealing her thunder and all her clients. Why couldn’t Shelby just stay home and let Morgan have this one? After all, Shelby doesn’t believe in her product, not like Morgan does. She’s just successful because she’s charming and magnetic with a killer smile and legs for days.

Still, Morgan has a heart. When a major snowstorm cancels both their flights home and Morgan snags the last rental car, she offers Shelby a ride. That kindness turns into a nightmare when bad cell reception and a missed exit leaves them stranded in a secluded hunting cabin with a wrecked car and no way to call for help.

The longer they’re stuck together, the more their feelings grow. Could Morgan really be falling for the woman who might just cost her everything? And that’s nothing compared to the question that plagues them both once they’re finally rescued. Do they really have feelings for each other, or was it just cabin fever?

This book has disappointed me, it's not the first novel I've read by this author but I didn't remember that she was so sparing in dialogues and so extensive in overdescriptions.

In addition, the two protagonists have been unattractive, the one, Morgan, for her unfounded hostile attitude basically caused by her insecurities and the other, Shelby, for apparent frivolity and lack of scruples, although she has been more coherent after all.

The somewhat absurd situation that the two of them had to suffer has not made much sense either, although it is possible that something similar will happen. Everything has seemed a bit forced and since neither of them, especially Morgan, has put much on their part for a civil coexistence within the extreme circumstances, it has been a bit exasperating to go through the chapters repeatedly reading the same ruminations of the two of them.

The final resolution has not contributed much in the positive either, it has been hasty and simple.
Not much more to add.

This the 2nd book I have read by Tagan Shepard. I gave the first one "And then there was her" a 6star rating. And I went in search of another.
So I was anxious to read "Cabin Fever".
Well I wasn't disappointed. It's amazing how she gets into the head of the main characters and shares all their intimate and unusual feelings and thoughts.
I never imagined successful sales people having such difficult and lonely private lives. At least these 2 do.
Very interesting how the 2 .....very slowly....pull each other out of themselves and learn to want more personal contact.
It has some action scenes, a very slow burn romance and a lot of psychological analysis.
Excellent writing, natural interesting dialog and plausible ending.
(But did they ever reimburse the cabin owner?...)
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Morgan Allen and Shelby Lynn Howard met at a medical equipment tradeshow. Shelby was an extrovert and Morgan an introvert. Morgan didn’t take a liking to her initially due to some possible mis-understanding. They crossed path again as they shared a car ride home but because of a snowstorm, they got stranded and took shelter in an unoccupied cabin. Would feelings for one another grow?

Morgan initially came across as someone quite unlikable. She was at times rude, sullen and stubborn. Morgan hated Shelby (not so much the other way around) and thought her to be someone who was very fake. She didn’t agree with her sales tactic which she thought was shady but I didn’t think so. She was often frequently very angry. And the anger was aimed at Shelby which was rather unwarranted. Shelby on the other hand was more likeable. And the relationship between the two of them was just hard to get into. There was obviously a physical attraction going on. Based on looks more than I would have liked. The book got much better more than halfway through when we got to learn more about both their background and history.

I really liked the concept. There was a bit of the enemies to lovers theme going on here. Also the idea of forced proximity as they were stranded in the cabin. But it didn’t work for me.

I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A delicious slow burning, forced proximity, rivals to lovers tale! Stuck in a remote cabin with your fiercest competitor. It’s not only the cosy fireplace that sends the sparks flying!

I received an advance copy from Netgalley for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the week where Morgan Allen wants to make a big splash. As a saleswoman for lab tech equipment, she attends her first big trade show. Morgan is confident her product is the best out there but how can she compete with her biggest rival, Shelby Howard. The woman shifts personalities with every customer interaction, just to make the sale. Morgan can’t stand to see someone so inauthentic. Sure, Shelby is gorgeous, but does she have to turn up the charm for every sleazy male customer or colleague she meets? By the end of the trade show the weather has turned and developed into a snowstorm from hell. All flights are cancelled, but luckily Morgan snatches the last available rental car. On her way to pick it up, Morgan spots a very disheveled Shelby. She decides to do the decent thing and offer her annoying rival a ride. And what a ride it’s going to be!

Shelby can’t believe her luck. The woman who’s been staring daggers at her for the whole week, seems to be her savior. Spending hours and hours in a car together doesn’t sound very appealing, but at least she’ll be on her way home. The snow outside gets worse and worse. Their navigation falters and leads them horribly astray. Then Morgan decides to turn onto a small desolate road in a State Park in an attempt to find her way back to the freeway. What they get is more like a free fall. The rental car slips and crashes into an embankment. Hurt, disoriented and freezing like a popsicle, Shelby spots a tiny cabin in the distance. Could this day get any worse? Now she’ll have to spend the next few days in a small space to wait for rescue with a woman that hates her. Or doesn’t she?

This is such a delicious story! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The awkwardness between Morgan and Shelby is palpable and completely based on assumptions. The longer the women are forced to get along inside the tiny cabin, the more their true personalities shine through. It’s very satisfying to watch them each thaw. And then they have to acknowledge their growing attraction, at least to themselves. I mean, come on! Two single lesbians in a remote forced proximity situation and only one bed? Hell yes!

Tagan Shepard writes hilarious dialogue. Even though the situation Morgan and Shelby find themselves in is awful, when the banter warms up, it’s witty and funny. I loved watching both women adjust their assumptions of each other to a new reality. When that happens the desire and connection is undeniable. It is very satisfying to watch their story unfurl.

Both Morgan and Shelby have some painful skeletons in their closet. Being in each other’s space for so long, the truth is destined to come out. It is easy to understand how their experiences have molded them into the women they are now. Only those are not the women they want to be.

Most of the men in this story are misogynistic pricks. Their attitude towards women made my skin crawl. I was actually proud of Shelby when she finally stood up to them. Luckily, Morgan’s mentor Chad is a very different man. He is honest, fatherly and is friends with everyone in the business. His support of Morgan is heartwarming and he shows her what is important in life: making real connections with people.

If you’ve never read Tagan Shepard’s books, this one will convert you into a fan for sure! So, don’t hesitate to travel with Morgan and Shelby to that snowed in cabin. Settle into a corner next to the roaring fire and watch their story unfold!

Loved this novel. This was unexpectedly deep and satisfying. For some reason I didn’t expect much (the premise is rather straightforward and cliché?) but I was certainly wrong. This novel is fun and heartwarming, but also went into some much deeper, serious, and more grounded themes. The characters were well developed and felt real. The story was surprisingly realistic and had layers that were satisfying. I had a lot of fun reading this novel, which had a lot of satisfying little moments. I’ll be looking for more from this author!

Spoilers below!
Highlights:
-Both MC’s were realistic people with depth and detail. Neither was a caricature or stock character and I enjoyed that immensely. Both characters had their own motivations for what made them tick as well as what was holding them back from a relationship. It was realistic and it worked. I could empathise and connect with both of them.
-The author set the majority of this novel in essentially a single room with only two characters, yet it was never boring or dragged. This is a sign of a good author. A bottle episode (this analogy works…) is either amazing or terrible and the deciding factor is the author; this one was amazing.
-I appreciated the time the MC’s spend apart after they left the cabin! They each had things about themselves to reflect upon and work on. This was an excellent way to avoid instalove-pitfalls even though their relationship was relatively instalove-adjacent. The fact that they still wanted to be together after a cooling off period worked well to illustrate that this wasn’t just a relationship created through extreme situations (…..cabin fever….?) but instead something with lasting potential. I also loved how their time in the cabin changed who they are/act in the rest of their lives, not just their romance.
-The time spent in survival mode in the cabin was very well done. Long periods of boredom with short sections of extreme danger is exactly what situations like this look like. This was also the perfect setting for this story to take place in, regarding both of those elements.
-Respect cold weather! I simply loved how realistic this part of the novel was. A lot of people don’t properly appreciate how dangerous cold weather is and underestimate what it can be like. The scene where Morgan walks back to the car was incredibly realistic, both that I can easily see someone trying this and also how badly it could go for them. I know this is a strange point to harp on for a romance novel, but I simply loved the realism (maybe it’s a Canadian thing?).
-HOW did you get me to actually appreciate and sympathise with people who work in this type of sales job? Good job, honestly. Make your next novel about used car saleswomen and get the reader to strongly empathise with them and cheer for their success, I bet this author could do it.

Nitpicks and Complaints:
-I don’t love it when the “enemies” part of the enemies-to-lovers equation is simply based on first impressions and assumptions that the characters make of each other. I find this to be a rather weak motivation. This either results in the conflict disappearing almost immediately, or lasting only because the characters refuse to communicate with each other, both of which are unsatisfying. This novel did a decent job in the end and made it work, but I still think this was a weakness that could have been improved upon.

Disclaimer: I received a free ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had trouble getting into this book at the start, I didn't really like the way the characters immediately jumped to conclusions about one another (Morgan was particularly guilty of this). Even after being stuck together, it still felt like they spent way too much time with those initial negative assumptions. When they finally did start to talk to one another, it only seemed to get worse between them and I had no idea how they would ever make a relationship work. However, once they started opening up to one another (after, in my opinion, way too long) the book improved a lot from there. There was some character growth on both sides and I liked that you could actively see the changes they were making in their lives. I also appreciated that they were able to take a step back and evaluate before rushing into anything. When they finally do get together, it's cute and I enjoyed the outcome. Overall, a good read, it just takes some time to get into. 4/5 stars.

There is a lot of lab talk in this book as the 2 MC's are medical equipment sales people. I was going to appreciate the amount of research that had gone into this aspect alone, (not that I had verified any of the information) until I read the author bio. Now I'm just as appreciative and impressed by the ability to use their day job experiences so well.
Overall I liked this story. 2 medical sales people for rival companies who had not got on drove off into a snow storm, crashed and had to stay in a cabin for a week or so until found. I did think it was a funny time of year to be publishing a snow storm book - but I think that is because I associate this kind of stuff with winter and Christmas. I guess it's snowy somewhere in the world right now.
I was somewhat alarmed to read that Chad shouldn't be driving in the weather conditions (snow) at his age - as a man in his 50s! It's not like he was in his I don't know 70s or 80s!

I liked the fact that both of the MC's were openly flawed characters and that they took time to warm up to each other.
I was amused by their opinion of a book read in the cabin - a man who hadn't held a gun before shot the terrorist that 10 seasoned agents had not been able to, gone home with a woman much much hotter and cool than him, the president visited him at home to say thank you. Thankfully the MC's thought this predictable, ridiculous but enjoyed every cheesy second of it.
I also liked the fact that although they had their moments in the cabin, they were just becoming emotionally closer during their time with a hint of the possibility of sex. Bad luck that when they finally got down to it they heard their rescuers and had to abandon it.
The story incorporated COVID and loss along with the medical technology and lab workers.

And as always, the epilogue.
No wedding, no children, just attending the conference again together, with colleagues.

I've received an ARC from NetGalley and am writing this review voluntarily.

This is my first book by Tagan Shepard and I would like to say I became a huge fan of her writing. Her style of narration is extremely good.
I want to start by saying that both MCs' characters were flawed. It was not pretended in the book that the characters at least both the MCs have unique, superficial, extra inhumanly possible features with wealth under their belt.

Morgan Allen and Shelby Howard are common people facing daily life struggles, sometimes with extra voltage, other times with dimming strength. They both are in marketing and sales of medical instruments. They met each other at a conference in Rochester. Morgan disliked Shelby the moment she met her, introduced by her mentor. During their return journey to Washington D.C., they got stranded in a snowstorm in a secluded cabin. Ohhh... I didn't mention they hate each other. At least Morgan did. Shelby was initially confused by the behavior of Morgan towards her but after a few hours in the cabin, she started disliking her too.

A common proverb in India, if you want to truly know a person, travel with them. So, they both spent their days seeking to get rescued and meanwhile caught themselves in getting to know each other's interface. They face a few hot but altogether painful events during their stay.
The character's history, especially Shelby's, was sad but her determination made me like her more. Of course, she had her flaws but who doesn't? We all have. The realization of this aspect turned Morgan's thinking. The subtle way the author mentioned about the grey areas of life and our actions is remarkable. I liked it very much.

This book is fantastic. You should get it. Park your behind on some comfortable cushions with soft blankets because let me tell you those falling snow and the storm will give you some chill or at least a feeling of cold if you are reading in the summer ;).

Morgan Allen was luckly, she grew up with a single mom who always made Morgan a priority. From being accepting to Morgan telling her she was a lesbian to her choice, something many did not. When Morgan started college she knew that the career path she would choose would be medical, going from college to working in a lab where as a Lab Tech she would be working on methods treating various illnesses. What she designed was a faster way to turn a test into lab results. Now she’s at a convention trying to sell her design, and seeing as she doesn’t interact with other professionals, making a sale wasn’t going to be easy, especially since her biggest competitor used every thing she had including flirting to make the sale.
Shelby Howard did come from money but the minute she announced she was a lesbian she was prominently shown the door. Getting through college only by working up to three jobs to keep studying. She wasn’t a lab tech but she worked for a company that had also made a product for fast results and it’s her job to sell it to the same people that Morgan was trying to sell to.
Both had different ways of selling their products and Morgan thought Shelby sold her’s using her sexually. Now when the convention was over and a major winter storm kept flights grounded they were going to travel together by car to make it back to their offices. Seemingly carefree Shelby trying to make the best of it while Morgan certainly didn’t do ‘carefree’. Of course something will happen, leaving them stranded in a remote cabin.
Ms Shepard can and does make this adventure into a simply great story. Great job developing characters you want to know more about. Very, very enjoyable read.

I enjoyed the start and feel although a lot of information was given it wasn’t overwhelming. Unfortunately when the point of view changed I didn’t realise, so was a bit confused. Just getting in to a book I can have trouble remembering the mains name because often they aren’t referred to by it for obvious reasons. Once I realised POV had changed I understood it was the other side and reasons for some behaviour that had turned the other main off….. or at least had her jumping to conclusions. Once I had a way to remember which was which I really got in to this. I liked the way the misconceptions were set up. I liked the way the author handled both why the conclusions were jumped to, but also that we knew they were wrong. It was a slow discovery that they were wrong, not too slow but certainly not insta, which is mad considering at the point of me writing this, they have only known each other just over a week!
The chemistry and interest has been building and is about to be acted upon, but I am distracted by what I think is a plot point and I’m waiting it to happen, which is a shame, because I have enjoyed the mains journey to each other. (I’m being deliberately vague to avoid spoilers)
Let me just say when the mains properly get together there were no distractions for me or them!
I really liked this book, but I’m finding it difficult to explain why…..bit rubbish for a review I know. I think the enemies to friends was well done, it’s possibly as simple as that. 3.5!

Morgan Allen and Shelby Howard meet at a medical trade show where they work for competing companies. Their first impressions of the other are not great and involve some misunderstanding. When their flight home to DC is canceled because of snow Morgan reluctantly invites Shelby to join her in the rental car she was able to get. Unfortunately, due to the weather they end up stranded and breaking into a cabin to wait out the storm. Snowed in a remote place with only one bed is a classic trope and it works well. The time spent together gives them time to learn more about the other. The author even manages to work Covid and the Opioid crisis into their back stories. Morgan to me was much harder to like or the pair.

I enjoyed the tension building in the cabin and wondering when they may give in to their attraction. But the novel is slow burn and leaves you waiting longer than I expected. And while I did like that each character has reflection and makes some personal changes, I’m not sure I totally bought into the HEA ending. I was even a little confused at the epilogue wondering if they were still competitors or working together. Overall, a good story using a classic troupe. I just wanted a few more details on how the HEA looked like for the pair. Thank you to Bold Strokes Books for the ARC via NetGalley and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Another enjoyable read by Shepard. This was well written with engaging characters and great backstories.

Morgan Allen is at her first trade show after leaving the lab to sell a product she believes in, but is struggling to make it while her biggest rival is there and stealing a lot of her sales. She despises Shelby the first moment she meets her and makes a lot of assumptions from there on out.

Shelby Howard is making a big splash in the sales world, but she adapts her persona to each person in order to make the sale. She doesn't necessarily like it, but does it regardless.

When a snowstorm cancels all flights, Morgan was luckily enough to snag the last rental and in the spur of the moment offers Shelby a ride home. What neither expect is to get in a car accident and stranded in a remote cabin for who knows how long and only each other for company.

In the beginning they are like fire and ice, that eventually cools somewhat. The time in the cabin has them talking and dealing with each other whether they like it or not and they learn a lot about the other.

I didn't like all the assumptions Morgan made was my biggest pet peeve. I wish there had been more of their relationship after the cabin, and I wish they had communicated better, but overall I enjoyed it.

Morgan is a saleswoman who has a particular reason for wanting to succeed in medical equipment sales. She used to work in a lab, she understands her equipment and she has great personal integrity. Shelby is a huge success in medical equipment sales because she shape shifts to suit her client and delivers a good product. They meet at a convention and Morgan is not impressed.

Bad weather grounds flights home and Morgan surprises herself by offering Shelby a lift home in the last hire car which she has managed to procure. Bad cell reception interferes with the sat nav and Shelby’s musical choices lead to a car crash. Although ‘uninjured’, the women are lost and seek refuge in a small cabin.

Over the days till they’re rescued Morgan starts to see a different Shelby but also starts looking at herself and her judgemental attitudes. Shelby wonders who she is and how her life got so far from what her grandmother wanted for her.

There is a decent amount of angst, the relationship stutters along in a real way, and the ending is satisfying and well developed. I found the PoV shifts confusing at times but it didn’t spoil the enjoyment. I wanted to know how they recompensed the cabin owner for their little foray into his cupboards and bookshelves.

Ms Shepard is a very good storyteller and I will continue to look out for her books.

I've enjoyed several books of Shepards and was excited to give this a read. This book follows Morgan and Shelby who are rival sales representatives for medical testing equipment. Morgan, a new sales representative has been struggling with getting her rhythm while her nemesis, Shelby, continued her winning streak. The two meet at a sales conference where they get off on the wrong foot, but Morgan has a moment of weakness and offers to share her rental car when a snowstorm cancelled all flights for the weekend. One wrong turn and a crash leads to them stuck in a cabin waiting out the storm.

I'll admit I struggled a bit with the first half of the book. Neither characters really spoke to me. I did like Shelby but it was clear that both characters had more to them and it took a bit to get them to open up. Given that most of the book is just the two characters in the cabin, their interactions and internal monologues needed to be strong to carry the book. I didn't dislike the characters but I also didn't take to them, especially Morgan. But once the characters warmed to each other, I got pulled into the book more.

All in all, a well written book that I just didn't connect with until the last half of the book. I would recommend for fans of single beds or closed room stories.

This is the first book I have read by Ms. Shepard. I selected Cabin Fever because I thought the setting would be interesting – that is, being stuck in a cabin with your enemy.

Morgan Allan and Shelby Howard are the two women who meet at a medical trade show. It is Morgan’s first show, and she is nervous about whether she will do well. Morgan has worked as a lab tech for several years and knows the product inside and out. Shelby works for another company and is one of the best in sales. However, Morgan observes Shelby’s sales techniques and feels it is unethical how she uses her womanly attributes and charm to get a sale.

When the trade show is over, a major snowstorm takes place and all flights are cancelled. Morgan planned ahead and had reserved a rental car. She sees that Shelby is stranded and offers her a ride. As the story progresses, they are forced to seek protection from the storm in a small cabin with no way to communicate with the outside world.

The story was fun to read and flowed well. I enjoyed this book but at times the frequent referencing to technical equipment was a little boring. I liked the way the two main characters interacted as they got to know each other and how they attempted to move from enemies to possible friends. As far as secondary characters, I really liked Chad, Morgan’s mentor.

I look forward to Ms. Shepard’s next book. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Morgan arrive at her first trade show she excepting to makes a lot of sales for her design that can help a faster way to turn a test into lab results. While there she sees her rival Shelby who is one of the top sales and wishes she didn’t come because she believes she uses her charms to get top sales and doesn’t believe in what she selling. In a moment of kindness Morgan offer Shelby a ride after a major storms canceled their flights as they are driving things become worst when they miss the exits and find themselves stranded but luckily they find a cabin they can seeks shelter in. As they try to make the most of it and hope someone will come Shelby tries to get Morgan to open up but it’s a battle that have her wonder should she even try. Morgan is resitant in letting Shelby know her and vice verse but she starts to see maybe she misjudged Shelby. This was ok read I didn’t like Morgan at first I understood why she went into sales and left the lab but I didn’t like that she judge Shelby without knowing her and I love Shelby because she own who she is.

I know nothing about medical equipment but that wasn't really necessary for this book as the job of our MC's has little to do with the predicament in which they find themselves in.

Morgan and Shelby are both working in the medical equipment distribution but for different companies. Morgan is a newbie and has a great mentor in Chad. Turns out he was also the mentor for Shelby a couple of years ago.

After a convention to promote their equipment they both get stranded at an airport. Morgan gets the last rental car and decides to invite Shelby to join her on the road to get home.

I really enjoyed this story despite Morgan making it hard for me to like her. I get why Shelby is the way she is. She's ambitious, had a difficult upbringing and is trying to make a career in a men's world. Kuddos for her for working hard and playing her cards well.

The part in the cabin seemed like such fun I started to dream about getting stranded and being able to hide out in a remote cabin. Despite the cold obviously.

Read with NetGalley. You can never go wrong picking up any books by Tagan Shepard. Morgan meets Shelby at a trade show, and discovers she's the type of person who will become whoever she needs to be to be able to sell her product. And tries to avoid her as much as possible during their time there. It's time for them to go home only for a snow storm to stop all flights, So they decide to travel together. and end up in a cabin stuck with nowhere to go and no one else around but each other. Both these women can be incredibly stubborn, but slowly they find a grove to be able to be okay living together. Soon they find out who the other is behind the mask and really like what they see. It is definitely a slowburn, but such a beautiful story watching them peel away the layers to each other, and find their true selves, separately and together. Its definitely a book that would be nice to curl up next to a warm fire with a mug of hot cocoa and fall in love with these beautiful characters.

“Cabin Fever” by Tagan Shepard is a wonderful book. Talk about opposites attract as a plot device! Then it turns into a slowly emerging HEA. I’ve always enjoyed stories where characters have to problem solve and learn foreign survival concepts as they go. There are different types of “survival” in life and Morgan and Shelby show emotional and physical types as we follow their journey. Perhaps they aren’t that different from each other but cope in different ways. Nothing comes easily for these two characters, but they figure it out. You’ll feel good when you finish, and you’ll be engaged throughout.

Morgan and Shelby are two workaholics and competitors meet at a trade show and dislike each other on sight due to some misconceptions. Due to a snow storm they get stuck and end up in a rental car together that crashes but they get saved in a cabin they find. After a week together they slowly start to like each other perhaps even romantically.

A real slow burn and a bit too little little spice but a nice read.

This was a easy reading book with not a lot to dislike. Some of the plot points gave me pause (I won't reveal any spoilers), but for the most part the writing flows, the characters were enjoyable, and the spice was pretty good. Definitely a very solid 4 out of 5 and a book I would recommend.

I was lucky enough to be provided an ARC of this book through NetGalley.

Morgan and Shelby are competitive salespeople attending a conference when a blizzard hits. Morgan immediately passed judgement on Shelby based on her interactions with crass salesmen. Shelby fits in by people pleasing and being a chameleon to avoid conflict in the work place. This rubs Morgan the wrong way. When they all end up stranded at the airport due to the weather, Morgan is the only one with a reserved rental car. She invites Shelby to ride with her, against her better judgement. They begin their journey home, but when Morgan’s anxiety takes hold she misses an exit. She refuses to listen to Shelby and ultimately ends up on a side road where they crash. With no help in sight, Shelby sees a light in the distance and decides to make the trek to get help. Stubbornly, Morgan follows her. They end up in a remote, unoccupied cabin snowed in for days. Their interactions are tense and their differences apparent as they share the space. Even so, they are both aware of the energy between them. Will they be able to overcome their differences and Morgan’s holier than thou attitude enough to explore their connection?

As you may be able to tell, I did not much care for Morgan. I kept hoping she would redeem herself, but she really didn’t for me. I liked Shelby immediately. The author did a good job unpacking the characters so we could understand where they were coming from. Shelby’s life experience helped understand her no conflict, stay safe way of interacting with others.

It’s an entertaining one bed, enemies (on Morgan’s part) to lovers read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the arc.

An enjoyable lesbian romance with two characters who deviate from the usual prototypes and each grow and change as a result of their encounter.

Like hearing the thoughts of a grumpy cat. That's how it feels when you read Morgan Alan's perspective.
She is a scientist who switched to sales for personal and humanitarian reasons based on the COVID events, because she wants to sell more of the really useful devices that she knows will really help humanity.
She is a somewhat dark character, who spends a lot of time in her head.
She meets her competitor Shelby Howard, who is pretty much the exact opposite and very successful, because of her blonde beauty and her extremely blue eyes.
Beautiful, distracting, but seemingly totally fake. At first, both of them are just not sure how to deal with each other.
Morgan's rather hostile nature even creates a kind of hatred.
Something that seems unfounded and based only on assumptions, but that's how we humans often are.
We assume instead of getting to know someone. That was a strong statement in this book that touched me very much.
In general, it is a very deep story with many hidden and very real fears and worries that everyone knows in one way or another.
Loss, insecurity, panic attacks, disappointment, family problems and even total rejection by the family.
You will certainly notice by now that this is not a funny, bubbling, sweet, simple romance that I am describing here.
It is slow-burn at its finest and then the whole thing with the snowstorm, the cabin and the injuries comes into play...
All I can say is that it was unexpectedly deep and exciting, but because of that very captivating.
Wonderful characters with depth and many layers!
It was an excellent reading pleasure!

I thought this book was especially interesting since 1) I was on a ship during the pandemic - the same time frame as this book and 2) I have sailed on the ship in the book during non-covid times. I could not help thinking how lucky my 'covid on a ship' situation was compared with what these people endured.
