Alex Bain #3

Death and Love's Confession

Rate this book
With her vampire side more or less under control, Alex Bain had finally found some happiness, especially with Finn, the charming half-fae bartender, heating things up things in the romance department. But when a desperate letter from her ex, Lucas—a warlock with a shadowy past—arrives, her fragile peace is shattered. Unable to abandon him, Alex sets off for Brazil with her bonded mated and the snarky demon Corgi, Argo, to rescue Lucas's sister from the clutches of a ruthless vampire Master.

Through the wild and colorful streets of Sao Paolo and the lush jungles of the Brazilian countryside, the group gains new allies and faces nightmarish monsters at every twist and turn. With every step, they all grow closer; even Argo stops giving Lucas a hard time, and Alex finds herself torn between her unresolved feelings for the fire-wielder and her deepening love for Finn. Then, when a desperate escape uncovers a sinister prophecy binding the three of them, Alex must confront the true source of her growing power and passion—one darker than she ever imagined.

As unforeseen betrayals and revelations cloud the path and threaten those she loves, will Alex’s heart guide her to a new destiny, or will it lead to catastrophic consequences? Can she master the darkness within, or will it consume them all? And does a girl really have to choose?

Beta read- Wow, just wow! I’ve sat overnight trying to come up with words to write this review. I sat and contemplated life after that damn cliffhanger for a good while. I haven’t felt like this since the ending of Iron Flame. I literally gasped at how this book ended. Did not expect it at all.

I loved this book from start to finish. There has been so much character growth in this series thus far, and each book gets better and better. The banter is highly comical. I laughed out loud several times, the action got you antsy and anxious. The spice…LAWD it was just **chef’s kiss** and makes you blush a little in the best way. The read was fast paced ( don’t let how many days it took me to finish, adulting sucks). Lastly, there is more Argo for all the Argo fans. And boy is he sassy in this one.

Again, impatiently waiting for the next installment. Thank you Kristen for letting me be a part of this wild ride. I adore you. 😘

Another exciting adventure with Alex Bain!

Just as it seems like Alex can take a breath and enjoy being loved up with Finn, word of an old flame (no pun intended) surfaces, leading Alex, Finn- her mate and half-elf- and her demon corgi Argo on a mission to Brazil to reunite with Lucas to help defeat a contingency of vampires.

As they do, things take a turn in a variety of ways. Alex discovers more about her history/condition, and she, Finn, and Lucas learn more about their bonds with one another. There’s more, but I don’t want to give anything away.

The fight scenes are always good and the ones in here are no different. There are some scenes with descriptive spicy action, and a few scenes with some slow burn teasing, all of which are enjoyable.

I was not expecting the sizable cliffhanger ending and now I just want to know what happens next to Alex, even though this book hasn’t even released yet!

Alpha Read - To start, this is the best book of the series so far! Alex & Finn find themselves traveling to another country to help Lucas after not hearing from him for quite some time. Only to find out that he’s been on a hunt to find & save his long lost sister.

You get so many questions answered in this book BUT in true Kristen style, you’re left with more questions while you hang by the seat of your pants for the next book!

The action is impeccable, the spice is hotter than a ghost pepper and the true, compassionate love is heart melting. Kristen’s book & plot pacing is amazing! You get so much in while not feeling over or underwhelmed.

If urban/paranormal/fantasy romance is your jam, I HIGHLY recommend you diving into this series!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I really enjoyed book 1 and DEVOURED book 2. Book 3 really introduced a lot more lore and historical significance to the world Alex lives in. I REALLY enjoyed that. I also loved all the new info on Argo, who is without a doubt my favorite character. The book flowed well without significant slowing points and had the action and romance we all love. Highly recommend this book when it released (hopefully!) later this year.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC version and I’m super happy 😃

It’s a great read and the ending left me on the edge of my seat, but not as great as the second book hence the 4 stars. My favourite parts were when Alex, Finn and Lucas trying to figure out their new relationship, although I’m a huge Finn fan. And of course, Argo is the absolute best with his wit.

Some questions were answered which was awesome, but there’s still a lot left to find out and a lot seems to be in store for the next one.

Looking forward to it 🥳

Thanks to the author for the ARC! This is hands down my favorite book in the series so far. You can really see Kristen Coar’s growth as a writer, especially in how naturally the intimate scenes were written. The love between the characters felt so real, and every moment of their connection was an absolute joy to read. ❤️

I loved that Alex finally found someone she could be vulnerable with. She didn’t have to be the fierce, unbreakable character around Finn—she could just be herself. Their romance? Beautiful, emotional, and it hit me hard. I found myself giggling every time they interacted because the subtle ways they showed affection were perfect. 😍

I was beyond excited for the return of a certain character from book 1, and it absolutely delivered! The partnership that developed between them was thoughtful and meaningful, showing how much they cared for each other without any unnecessary drama. I’m not a fan of love triangles, so I was a bit worried about how this would turn out, but the way everything unfolded? It was perfect for me! 👏

I also love how each book’s ending hints at something even bigger coming in the future. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Kristen Coar expands the world even more, and I’m left craving the next book. The anticipation is real, and I cannot wait for the sequel! 😭

Special mention to Argo, the true star of the book. I need an Argo in my life! His devotion to Alex, his culinary skills, and his overall presence were amazing. I mean, who wouldn’t want a cute dog that cooks for you and is an incredible companion? 🐾

That said, I still need time to process one specific event that I’m not over yet. I won’t spoil anything, but I am in serious denial about how it ended. I refuse to believe it’s permanent, and I’m really hoping the author finds a way to reverse it in the next book because I need more closure on that! 🤞

This book was action-packed, emotional, and full of moments that had me laughing, crying, swooning, and gasping. I felt every single emotion, and the spice? Absolute perfection. 🔥

Perfect for fans of:
🧛‍♂️ Urban Paranormal Fantasy
💕 Romance & Vulnerability
👊 Action & Emotion
🐕 Adorable, Devoted Companions
💔 Love Triangles Done Right
🔥 Spice

If you haven’t picked up this series yet, please do yourself a favor and read this book!

The story picks up right where book 3 left off. Alex, Finn, and Argo rush to help Lucas rescue his sister. But the question is, are they ready for what's coming?

This time, the story is set in São Paulo, where, through Argo, we're treated to local dishes and vivid descriptions of the surroundings, allowing us to taste the atmosphere for ourselves.

I devoured this book in one sitting. The pacing was spot-on, the characters kept me hooked, and the action was non-stop.

The ending leaves us with a massive cliffhanger, and I can’t wait for book four, coming in 2025.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My favorite thing about reading a series is how the world expands and how much the characters grow. This book did all of the things I wanted it to do for the progression of the characters and the world Alex lives in. In the first book the reader and Alex thinks that she’s a dhampir, half human half vampire. Book 3 makes you question that and think maybe she’s something older or more powerful…she’s something more. Book 3 also picks up right where book two ends so I’m glad I was able to read it so quickly after finishing book 2. I was very curious how things were going to work out as book one focus on her relationship with Lucas and then book 2 focuses on her relationship with Finn, so what’s going to happen in three? This book delivered on all accounts. It was spicy and steamy and heart wrenching. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for Alex and her corgi from hell. After finishing this, I am unwell (in the best way as only a book hangover can leave you). I can’t wait for the next book in the Alex Bain series! I enjoyed the first two as Alex and the other characters are all wonderful, but this one was my favorite so far!

This is an amazing conclusion to the first Alex Bain story arc. It took me to places that I could have never predicted!

To complete the triffecta of stunning covers, the author gives us this beauty. The colours are gorgeous! More hints to the content as well 😉

There is so much energy to the characters and tension in the storyline that I found myself on edge and keenly pushing through the pages. This author writes an urban fantasy/suspense type of story very well, and with the spicy romance, bits of humour, corgi snark and new settings, this story, in fact the whole series, ticks a lot of boxes for me.

The way Alex is developing as a romantic partner, strategist in battle, wielder of magic and in her paranormal skin adds layers to the narrative that really appealed. I like a strong fmc who is not afraid to lean on others when their skillset is outside or above her own. The way she adroitly uses swords, knives and now a silver whip takes the fight scenes to practically a John Wick level of creative carnage!

The ending is a phenomenal surprise and it's resolution will surely take readers to new territory. I'll definitely be back for that!

Holy hell Kristen!!!! This is my favorite book yet In the Alex bain series! The character growth has been remarkable and the story just keeps getting better and better!
This one took me for quite a ride in a short amount of time and I am so here for it.
I went from being nervous, to hesitant, to freaking stoked, to absolutely gutted!! I don’t want to give any spoilers because I think everyone should feel the utter surprise, excitement and devastation that comes with this book! From start to finish I was engrossed and finished in one sitting.
Do yourselves a favor and dive into Alex’s story because it has something for everyone to love…
Bad ass main character in her 30s( idk about you but as a 36 year old I love to see some badass characters closer to my age)
Vampires, fae, warlocks
Why choose(which is one of my absolute favorite things)
Badass friends that are family
And the cutest most badass corgi demon🖤

I know that if you enjoyed Buffy the vampire slayer and/or the sookie stackhouse series then you will love this series.

There is just something about a series that builds up to key moments in a story. In a character's life. I thought book two was my favorite. Kristen blew my expectations out of the water with book three! Book three has taken the number one spot in my heart.

Alex, Finn, Argo, and even Lucas have reserved spots in my brain and in my heart. Book three took off running and left me in ruins ready for book four which needs to be here, like yesterday! Plus, I need to know more about the new characters introduced. Will we see cameos from prior side characters?

Seriously, fans of urban fantasy, read this series! All the stars!

Well, that was in many ways, unexpected.

Anyways, as usual with a Coar book, great pacing, well thought out characters who clearly have past and make decisions based on that past or their own desires. This author really understands how to make every secondary character feel real and "living breathing" which is no small task.

I'm a fan of her work and will be looking forward to any other Urban Fantasy releases from Coar. Highly recommend.

I recieved an advance reader copy and am leaving a fair an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I have enjoyed watching Kristen Coar’s journey as an author. She has grown so much and has become a strong writer. Each book is better than the last in regards to character development, concise and clear storyline, plot that keeps you intrigued, and banter that makes you feel everything. As her writing has grown so has this series, leaving readers wanting, needing more.

After two books, Alex has found someone who allows her to be strong and vulnerable. Someone who doesn’t see her soft side as a weakness. Alex has grown so much in the past two books, coming to terms with who and what she is, her role in everything happening, and the ability to ensure she is doing what makes her happy. Although there are still complications in her life, old and new, she is resilient, determined, and does not shy away from doing what needs to be done.

I have adored Finn since book 2 and seeing these two thrive had me silly smiling constantly. He is the partner who brings out the best of Alex. He allows her to be her and feel what she needs to feel. The return of a certain book 1 character had me questioning how her bonds would come into play, but I think Kristen handled that storyline perfectly. I mean, a strong woman needs a strong mate right?

Now, I am still not ok from the ending, and won't be until book 4 comes out next year, but this is a testament to how Kristen has developed as an author. I do want to see Alex and her found family get their HEA, but don’t know how much turmoil they will need to endure before that is possible. If you are looking for an urban fantasy that gets better with each book, read this series! Definitely start with book 1 though. Oh and of course I adored our favorite corgi demon friend throughout the entire book also.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Book 3 in the Alex Bain series takes us to Brazil. Alex, Finn and Argo have flown down to Brazil to help Lucas get his sister, Sarah, back. Meeting Esteban, the contact for the Family, they are thrown into a dangerous game with the southern Vampires. While searching for information, Alex discovers there is more to her than her dhampir nature. What exactly, no one knows - except maybe Argo, but as usual you can't get anything from him!
Alex is certainly building a team to take down the Master. Finn is her mate and loyal no matter what. Lucas is definitely on the road to redemption and obviously still in love with Alex. Argo is still a snarky little demon corgi who I just adore to no end! We are introduced to some new characters in this book as well. We finally get to meet Sarah and her story is an absolute jaw dropping shocker! And Clair, who is part of the Resistance and more, also sees Lucas her enemy number 1. But even though Clair is an ally, can they trust her with her hatred for Lucas?
There is redemption, surprises, betrayals and spice!! There is action in fights and battles and in the bedroom! (Maybe even a little of both *wink*) The fights/battles are absolutely incredible and bring out parts of Alex she didn't even know she had! And, I guess I can say the same for the spicy scenes as well! There are questions answered but of course, more come up along the way. I cant wait to find out what Alex finds out about herself and her lineage! And that ending! Let's just say I did not see it coming! I can't wait to find out how Alex will return from this! Alex will truly go to Hell and back for both of her men!

Exciting - thrilling - adventurous !

🔸️It's a real emotional roller-coaster mixed with action and power intrigue.

🔸️Alex and Finn - those two are definitely destined for each other. They have beautiful, emotional connection. ❤️ Finn tries so hard to wrap Alex's in cocoon of love and safety. His acceptance of her is a total one and it's so touching to see him supporting her when she's struggling with aknowledging her darker nature.

🔸️Lucas - that guy has a difficult and rough path to redemption. It was good to see some rage - hard truths - understanding.

🔸️Romance - can't say a lot without spoilers 😏, but I was very satisfied with the way it develops! 😬😬😬

🔸️ Spice - it's super hot and juicy. 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
Has many shades here: can be playful & naughty, raw & primal, tender & intimate. Loved it.

🔸️The universe expands and system of magic significally grows. Lore is vaster and all hints & puzzles from previous parts click into their places!

🔸️Side notes:
- The fighting scenes are very well executed 🔥
- I totally liked Esteban and didn't like Clair at all (congratulations to author for creating such opposite characters 🤩)
- Sarah - a real badass woman
- Argo - OMG!!! Is there any more devoted doggo out there? Nope!! Argo is the one and only. ❤️❤️❤️
- Book ends with cliffhanger!!!!!!!😱
I usually hate cliffhangers, BUT THAT ONE is so deliciously wicked 🔥😈 that I bravely accept it and wait for book 4 like a good girl. 🤣😁

🔸️Overall, very well written, superbly executed, entertaining from the first till the last page.
Totally well deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

This series just goes from strength to strength, with each book increasing the levels of danger and peril.

As Alex and Finn head off in search of Lucas, after his message at the end of book two, neither of them could have any idea of what was to come. The bonds that Alex can see, both between her and Finn and, to a lesser degree now, with Lucas, have a significance which becomes clearer in this book.

After the danger they faced when battling the vampires before, they still can’t imagine exactly how much more perilous the battle ahead of them will be, as they try to rescue Sarah, the sister Lucas thought had been killed.

In summary:
The danger and excitement levels are off the chart.
The relationships Alex has with Finn and Lucas evolve into something new.
We see more of the powers Alex holds within her and further signs of their potential development.
Argo is his cute, yet snarky self and we learn more about him and hints of his past. (I love him more with each book.)
New characters are impactful on events in ways we don’t expect and some are more likeable than others!
The humour laced throughout the story offsets darker moments.

I am impressed at the way Kristen is developing both the characters and storylines to draw you in more and keep you invested. She certainly delivers one heck of a cliffhanger ending with a little taste of what might yet be to come. Definitely a 5 star read and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The third installment to the Alex Bain series and I continue to want MORE!!! This book had a very fun why choose element and after a bit of a slow burn, was very satisfying!

Things I loved:
- Argo - this sassy sidekick steals the show in every book but his story is just getting more and more interesting! I anticipate our heads will spin when we get the full scope of who/what he is and his purpose!
- Finn - this fae man is literal book BF perfection! He is attentive, emotionally mature, protective and sexy as all get out!
- Alex's identify - I love that Alex continues to grow (emotionally and in her power) in each book. I am so eager to understand the full scope of her identify!

Things I wish were better:
- The crisis in this book didn't feel as strong. I know it bleed into the overall mission to defeat the "Master" vampire but the issue with Lucas' sister just didn't feel as pressing to me as the reader. Especially after we meet her!
- Lucas - I was surprised how much I didn't like him in this book. I suppose it is expected with how great Finn is and how Lucas breaks Alex's heart early in the series. While he does get a redemption, it isn't strong enough for me to LOVE him again.

I am now eagerly awaiting book 4 and it could prove to be the most intense of the series so far!!

I’m still lost for words! Kristen did such an amazing job tying in all the lore and legends in this next installment of the Alex Bain series! We get more banter, spice, ultimate monster fights!! The ending had me an emotional mess that I hadn’t felt since Iron Flame’s ending!

LIKES: Argo, Finn, Alex, the witty banter, character development, the pacing, the lore, the incredible character art! I can’t believe she made me forgive Lucas because I was fully team F*** Lucas!

BLURB: the story picks back up in Brazil to put an end to the Village’s Master and save Lucas’ sister, Sarah. Alex, Finn, Argo and Lucas must face perilous situations in order to find Sarah. Alex finds more about the ancient prophecies (including her own background) and tales surrounding Brazil and its vampire history. With more answers, come more questions. Will everyone make it out of this mess? Find out in this urban fantasy full of action, monster fights & new threats around every corner!

QUOTES:
“Welcome to the club. We can all see a therapist together.”
Alex’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t know. Do you think he’d see all of us?”
Lucas looked over at Argo and gave a thoughtful look. “Give him glasses and a notepad; he’d basically be Corgi Therapist Extraordinaire.”

“As if I don’t already have to listen to your problems all day, every day?” - Argo

“You are a jackass. You’re about to die again.”

“You want me to come sit at your side, asshole, as your Queen, then you will treat me as a motherfucking Queen. You will give me what I deserve.”

Beta Read

Ooof. I've had the pleasure of beta reading this book, and wow.

We have Alex, our FMC, a badass "touch him and die" (touch him and suffer?) character who I love very much. She loves fiercely, curious, stands up for what's right even if it puts herself in danger.

And then we have her boys 👀 (plural. I love it!) A cinnamon roll who calls her goddess, and a bad boy on his redemption arc who reads fantasy romance. Both are obsessed with the FMC in all the best ways.

There's drama. There's spice. There's heartbreak. And then on top of the broken heart you already had, Kristen so kindly decided at the end of the story to rip our hearts out and feed it to Argo.

You know those side characters that you end up hating more than the actual villain (Professor Umbridge, I'm looking at you)? Yeah, there's one in here too.

This is the kind of book that leaves you throwing your book at the wall and trying to process all the emotions you just went through during the last 10% of the book and I am HERE FOR IT!

This is the third book in the Alex Bain serie! And I’m hooked and want more.

The story continues where book 2 ends. Alex is really struggeling with the love she has for Finn and the love she had for Lucas. Both man really cares about her and that’s something that comes back when you read the book.

Where there where lot of fights, getting to know Alex, Izzie and the mystical beings in Chicago in the first two books. This one had a slower speed in it. The story was more build up till the end. And the end left me wanting for more. Now I have to wait till next year.

This books has ofcourse the spicyness as the other two books. But be aware this time it’s a bit different!

Argo still is my favorite character! The way he says she’s my girl I melt everytime 😍 I liked that in the beginning there is a chapter where you get to know him. And you learn what he is been through.

I give this book 1 less star than the others. Just because I liked the other two more.

Kristen Coar’s writing is rich and immersive, drawing you into Alex’s dark and complex world. The Brazilian setting adds vibrancy and texture, making the adventure feel fresh and unique. The characters are lovable—especially Argo, who adds humor and heart. Alex’s internal struggles, particularly as she navigates her feelings for Finn and Lucas, add depth to the story without overshadowing the fast-paced action.

The romantic tension? Chef’s kiss. Finn is swoon-worthy, Lucas is irresistibly complex, and Alex’s torn heart will keep you turning pages late into the night. I highly recommend this one if you want something comparable to Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries (a.k.a. Sookie Stackhouse novels).

The absolutely last thing I expected was for this series to turn into a Why Choose and I am soooo here for it! I was so tense when Alex, Finn, and Argo met Lucas in Brazil because I didn't want things to end between Alex and Finn (I'd choose Finn over Lucas any day!) One of my favorite things about this one is that we FINALLY get more of Argo's backstory and what that little demon Corgi's life was like before he met Alex.

I love the dynamic that developed between Alex, Finn, and Lucas and the power sharing between the three. But ya girl was about to throw down with Lucas when he pulled that stunt during the confrontation with Jackal and forcibly kissed Alex. I am glad to see that he grew from the weak and cowardice individual he was in the last book and I was NOT ready for his death 😭😭

And I definitely was not ready for Alex to step willingly into Hell. By now we all know she's willing to do whatever it takes to protect the ones she loves but UGH! My heart is broken for Finn!

Wow, this series just keeps getting better. The author has once again delivered a captivating story filled with new relationships, unexpected twists, and satisfying answers to lingering questions. I found myself completely invested in the characters and their journeys, eagerly turning the pages to see what would happen next. She brought out all my emotions: laughter, tears, anger, and well🫣.

I love how the author seamlessly weaves together elements of romance and fantasy to create a truly immersive reading experience. The relationships between the characters are complex and well-developed, making it easy to become emotionally attached to them.

I can't wait for book 4 to come out, as I'm dying to see where the story goes next. This series has quickly become one of my favorites, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a captivating and steamy read.

Death and loves confession by Kristen Coar

This is the third book in the Alex Bain series, and in my opinion the best book yet 😍

The Alex Bain series is an urban fantasy romance with our badass FMC Alex Bain. This series has it all, love, spice, action, fantasy and not to forget the swoon worthy MMCs.
Now the third book introduces a new level of spice and romance as it transforms into a why choose 😉

This book made me fall in love with our characters once again, and then break my heart at the end 😢
I don’t even know what to say about the cliff hanger at the end of this book ! Other than that I will be looking forward to starting book 4 as soon as possible !

Book three was amazing! I LOVED the story line and the character arcs. I cannot wait to see more of the prophecy and what is in store in the next book. The writing style is so beautiful and descriptive. Book three is a riveting fast-paced story packed with brilliant banter, humor, and great tension.

Death and Love's Confession is a true masterpiece, a story of undying love for those closest to you, fighting for higher goals, and ultimate sacrifice. Brillant! The times I've cried, laughed, sat on the edge of my seat, and held my breath —are too many to count. This book concludes with a tantalizing cliffhanger, leaving us eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this compelling series.

ARC review!

Well Kirsten Coar has done it again! I dare say this book is the best yet! In this book we follow Alex Bain on yet another adventure. It is a journey of self discovery for Alex emotionally, physiologically and intimately. Although this time around Izzy is not in the forefront, you follow a love triangle and adventure unlike any other. And of course, we can’t forget about Argo! He’s a vital character in this book and is always waiting with a good meal and some witty banter! Death and Loves Confession will have you laughing, crying and on the edge of your seat. The cliffhanger may leave you wanting to throw your book, but it's worth it. It was so good I want to read it again in case I missed something the first time.

Action Packed from start to end

Note: this is the third installment of the series and must be read as such, do not read this as a standalone, you deserve the full story!

This action packed installment of the series was a super fun read, full of so many twists and elements it leaves your head spinning!

I really enjoyed how the characters and their development evolved to this book and throughout, it felt organic and was enjoyable.

This book is once again filled with banter, action, spice and adventure, with some great twists to keep you on your toes!

I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Note: this series is definitely for fans of iconic series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with great adventure, action, banter and found family!

What a wild ride of a third book!! I walked into this one, thinking it would be the conclusion of the story, but that was a wild assumption on my part. It not only didn't wrap up the story but led us quite directly into a whole new world that I didn't see coming. There were so many twists and turns that I couldn't put the book down because what if I missed something. There was a beautiful redemption arc in this book filled with love and forgiveness. There was lots of violence, as Alex is a total baddie. Her men build her up and are supportive in the most wonderful way. I'm very interested to see what happens next in this world and where it leads.

Agghhhhhhhhhh WHY?! No! What?!? 🤯

Sorry I literally just finished and my mind is mush. Damn it Kristen, why did you have to do that to me 😭

I enjoyed this book the most out of the series so far and I think Kristen’s writing just keeps getting better and better.

I am so emotionally invested in these characters and I think the world building and the intricacies of everything going on is just mind blowing.

Also EXCUSE ME?!??? How can you give me the Finn/Alex/Lucas situation and then take it away like that?!!?

I enjoyed this book immensely and I will be chomping at the bit waiting for the next one.
