Handling the Boss

Rate this book
The factory jokester is about to get serious – with the older woman who happens to be his new boss!

Jimmy
I’ve been working on the line in this small town factory since I graduated from high school, and when I get the opportunity to branch out and drive the forklift, I see it as a chance for a fresh start. My coworkers still think of me as the smart-mouthed kid in their group, but now that I’ve turned thirty-five, I’m ready to settle down. I’ve got a new look, a new home, and now, a new boss. I’ve also got a big problem, because the minute I laid eyes on Jordan I was head over heels in love with her.

Jordan
Sure, being a ‘foreman’ is a non-traditional career choice for a woman, but I love the work. When I’m offered the opportunity to lead the team at our Texas factory, I jump at the chance to move to a new town. Despite my being the first woman in this position here, everything is going great -- at least until I meet my new employee, Jimmy. His reputation as a jokester precedes him, and I’ve got no time for shenanigans on my team. I’ve also got no time for love, which is a shame, because when I look at Jimmy, I’m picturing happily ever after.

He's nine years younger than me, he’s my employee, and he’s dangerously irresistible. Despite my best intentions to stay focused on work, I can’t ignore the sparks flying between us. Our relationship shouldn’t work. But when he holds me in his arms, all of our differences fall away.

“Handling the Boss” is an opposites attract midlife romance with lighthearted hero, a super serious woman, a parrot with a swearing problem, and a town full of nosy matchmakers determined to help this couple find their forever love.

"He falls first" gets me every time. I loved this but I wish we had seen more of their relationship. I felt it was glossed over and it should have been explored more.

This reverse age-gap story was really good. I felt like a really connected with it. Maybe because Jordan was from Detroit area (like me), that she worked in a factory (I work with our factories) and that she fell for a younger man (got a crush on a younger one myself). Then she's also his boss which just complicates things. Thankfully I'm not my crush's boss - phew! I loved the prolonged foreplay that was really them dating without calling it dating while the learned about one another. I loved all of Jim's sides to his character, especially when Alpha Jim came out to play. The scene with Matthew showing up at the factory was priceless and exactly what I could picture my ex doing, although I'm not friends with him like Jordan is with her ex. Overall a truly enjoyable read, but that's to be expected from a Rose Bak story.

"The next few weeks is gonna be like foreplay"

I really like both Jim and Jordan, I like that whilst Jim is confident, he isn't cocky and arrogant. He may be confident 95% of the time, but he still has those little moments where he doubts himself, however, he doesn't run or hide. He calls his friends/ mentors/ surrogate family and chats through his feelings, doubts and fears....swoon. If only!
A lovely romance with a few twists on the "traditional" or "expected" that add a lovely quirk, making it an enjoyable read. It was also great to catch up with George and Cassie again too!
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Jim (H35) returns to work at the factory after a vacation, and eager to shed his reputation as the jokester kid, he accepts a temporary assignment in another unit, hoping to be seen as a responsible adult capable of moving up in the company. When he's assigned to work under no-nonsense foreman Jordan (h43), he’s struck by her beauty and professionalism. Jordan is focused on turning the team around despite resistance from some older workers and begins making changes to improve the team's efficiency. After a shared ride home sparks an undeniable connection, Jim and Jordan struggle to keep things professional. As they navigate their growing attraction, complications arise with the unexpected visit of Jordan's ex-husband, Matthew, leading to jealousy and misunderstandings. Despite the obstacles, Jim and Jordan agree to stay friends until Jim’s transfer removes the professional barrier between them. Their friendship only fuels the fire, and soon they can't deny their feelings any longer. Hot and steamy instalove, age gap, blue collar romance exploring ambition, love, and overcoming obstacles.

Jim has always been seen as the jokester kid in the company, and one day he meets the new for-woman Jordan at work and is completely besotted by her, even though she is some years older than him. They have amazing chemistry together, and I love how he is so considerate of her and willing to put her needs ahead of his and wanting to go the distance and play the long game. He seems like he would definitely pass the marshmallow test! I also really liked all the other characters, I will have to go look for George and Cassie's story!

I love Rose Bak's later-in-life stories, and this was no exception. It's a short, easy to read, light story that was quite steamy. Highly recommend!

Working for the Boss

Jim and Jordan happen to transfer to the same part of the company around the same time. She turns out to be his new boss and an older woman who he is attracted to her. This story was an interesting spin on age gap romances and their chemistry was on fire. Short yet enjoyable, this read had a great way of dealing with women in leadership positions for a career normally designated for men, which I found of interest.

Jordan has moved to a new town to increase the manufacturing plant's numbers. Jimmy/Jim works at the plant and from the moment he sees his new boss Jordan he instantly falls for her. Now, he just has to convince her that they belong together. This reverse age gap romance is a great addition to the multi-author Good With His Hands: Season 2 series. I loved the characters and their opposites attract workplace romance. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

She moved down to Texas to be the new foreman at the factory. He's on her team for the next 3 months. Attraction is a strong pull, but she's not comfortable with the age gap or messing up with their job. Can he convince her?

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I like that Jordan is a woman in charge in a male environment. It is attraction and love at first sight for Jim and Jordan. I liked that they waited until Jim went back to his section before becoming an official couple due to work regulations.

The author has given us a heartwarming older (slightly) woman/younger man story that pulls us into the lives of Jordan and Jim. The story keeps us turning the pages with instant connection, denial, determination and steam.

Jordan is a new transfer

Jordan is a new transfer at the company Jim has been employed at since he graduated high school. From their first meet, there are sparks, but she's his supervisor.

I suggest you read to see how this couple handles their attraction and their future.

I enjoyed this read 📚!

This was fine… the elements of an insta-love story were certainly present, but it didn’t grab me in any way.

I guess this would be an adequate choice if you’re super in the mood for a quick, no-conflict story.
