There are so many things to see down by the station; engines, buses, taxi's and more. Bouncy illustrations, innovative die cutting and popular rhymes make Books with Holes a must for every child. Available in three formats, suitable for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and the nursery or classroom.
One of the best board books we owned while Woods was growing up. We must have read it 100 times. Such a bitter sweet thing to be letting these books go on to another home but at 7, there's no reason to keep it here any longer. He loved making the sound effects and when he got to the end with all of the holes revealed and all the sounds listed he'd have the most fun saying them. Such a sweet book for a vehicle loving boy! Highly recommend. :)
Maximus currently favorite book. He loves vehicles and transportation, that's why when he got this book, he was so excited and he is still excited now everytime he looks at the pages. When Max is happy, me as a mother also happy. I love seeing my almost 18 months baby loving book like I do.
This is part of the Hole Stories Series, where each page has a cut out that shows something new in the story or song. I like song picture books because its an easy way to segue into the actual song or extend the book. And I like this song. What I don't like about the book are the noises the author decided to use associated with the vehicles. Instead of the obvious "choo-choo" or even "toot toot" for trains, the author chose "chug chug." The rest are kind of off, too. Also, the hole cutouts are so small to make them really difficult for kids to see at a storytime, despite the book being oversized. And the taxi cabs were blue!
Anyway it goes, I'll continue to use it for preschool storytimes and sing along. c
Any child will love a book with holes. Any parent will not because said child will continually stick chubby fingers in the hole making it a)impossible to turn the pages or b)rip the holes. We've done both.
This book pretty much follows the song with lots of pictures and vehicle sounds. It's pretty busy to look at. One of the four boys really loved it, the others could take it or leave it.
If you have a vehicle lover you should try this one. Otherwise you could live without the frustration.
This title is available in multiple formats. I only buy the one that comes with the CD. Why? Because it's only $1 than the one without a CD and it includes two tracks. One complete song and one with just the music. Other than that it's just what you would expect. The song, Down by the Station, with cut-outs around the various word sounds as each new vehicle is added with its accompanying verse. Warning, the song will get stuck in your head.
If my kids were rating this I'm sure they'd give it 5 stars! This book has been a hit with both children when they were toddlers. The illustrations are cute with lots to look at and it's fun to sing the song to them.
This is a cut away book, which explains a scene by cutting more away each page so that more of the final illustration is revealed. Feels a shoddy gimmick, frankly. Only one picture does not a picture book make.
This book is about all the different things that go on near a train station in a day. I would use this book in my classroom along with a lesson on things that go on in a community in a day.
