Tom was reared on a sheep farm in Southwest Virginia and treasures his agrarian roots. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1959 and the University of Richmond’s Law School in 1961. He has since 1961 practiced law in Richmond with the firm McGuireWoods, where he remains of counsel, and since 2006 in partnership with his son Scott as Word & Word PLC, specializing in tax and fiduciary services. He has been an avid upland bird hunter and pointing dog trainer all his adult life and enjoys reporting trials. His articles and stories have been published in Sporting Classics, The Draft Horse Journal, Pointing Dog Journal, Virginia Wildlife Magazine, Covey Rise Magazine, Field Trial Magazine and the American Field. He has published three collection of stories, None Held Back, A Little Competition and The Ninth Pup, and a memoir, The Price of Admission – Reflections on Some Personal Heroes, all available at Amazon.com and on Kindle, as is The Curmudgeons.
