I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the fourth book in the Scottish Witches Mysteries series. These are paranormal cosy mysteries set in Scotland, I've read the previous books in the series and I quite enjoyed them.

Each book focuses on a different character, but this one was slightly different from the previous books, as there were two narratives - one following Maryanna in the 1930s, and another following Kenna, closer to the present day. It was interesting to follow both characters, and I was keen to find out if there was a connection. There was also some overlap with some of the characters from previous books making an appearance, which I think makes it a little more enjoyable if you have read the previous books.

I did find this a very fun, entertaining read. I would say that these books are enjoyable as standalones, but I would recommend reading the previous books too. If you enjoy cosy mysteries with a touch of magic, this series may appeal to you.

Thank you to Booksirens and the author for a free copy to review.

A witch through time

Time travel while undeniably cool is often quite difficult to do well in written form. This book does it exceptionally well. The characters and the story tied through time and magic in the mystical Highlands of Scotland. Two young women out of place yet central to what happens it’s haunting and magical. I was drawn in from the first and kept enraptured through to the last page. A wonderful story!

I rate this 4.5 out of 5.

Thank you to Booksirens and Felicity Green for a copy of this ebook. I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Brief Summary: Kenna has just returned to her roots after ending a ten-year relationship. As she begins her new job on the local police force she is thrust into a murder mystery. A local pillar of the community has gone missing and a young woman who looks suspiciously like the missing woman has been found dead in her place. As Kenna attempts to unravel events she is thrust into a world of murder, magic, and secrets and the answers she's looking for might produce more questions than answers.

Thoughts: This might be my favourite book in the Scottish Witch Mysteries. The dual perspective of how the story unravelled kept me on the edge of my seat. I particularly like Maryanna as a character. We see her evolution from a young woman in a Traveller community to a powerful leader of a witch coven. Maryanna was a complex character and I enjoyed her arc throughout the story. I also enjoyed her sense of humour and the easter eggs she left for others to investigate.

I wish we had spent more time with Miari, Maryanna's grandmother. She was such an important part of Maryanna's portion of the story. Miari's development felt disjointed and not well fleshed out. If there had been more details regarding her throughout the plot it would have helped the emotional connection between Maryanna and her grandmother come through more.

Kenna was a character who was just sort of there for me. I did not feel any emotional attachment to her. It would have been interesting if she were tied into Maryanna's story more than just being the investigator on her case. I also do not think that the plot holes created by some aspects of Kenna's grandfather's subplot were satisfactorily closed.

I appreciated how Green tied in the previous three books from the series (although you don't need to read those to understand the plot of this book). As someone who enjoys the series, this book tied up some loose ends from the other stories. I hope we will go back and explore the stories of other elder coven members in more detail as we did in this book. For example, Rosa's villain arc has been touched on throughout but I'd read a book dedicated to better understanding her as a character.

Overall this was an enjoyable read with a cozy mystery vibe that kept me engaged. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a mystery with some magical elements. Green's writing transports you to the Scottish Highlands and creates a puzzle you are desperate to solve.

This is the fourth book in the series but can be read as a standalone.

This part is about Maryanna MacDonald, the coven leader in the Scottish Highlands. We get to learn more about her life story, which is quite amazing.

What I liked:

1. the story. An interesting setting, fast-paced development, lots of intrigues and events, and the main mystery in the end - all of these make a great story. Mrs. MacDonald's past is intriguing but heartbreaking. Her relationship with her mother Esme just blew my mind, the horrible things she said to Maryanna just hurt so much. I was relieved to know that she at least had such a lovely grandmother Mairi, who was strict but loving and took time to teach her about the gift and witches in general. As I went through Maryanna's adventures, I could not but admire her for her strength, bravery, and self-sacrifice.

2. the writing. The story is well-written, and the narration flows easily. The only problem I had was when the author started explaining some technical matters about how this one thing worked, and I found it difficult to understand - even after thinking about it for some time I still am confused about how it all went down. Otherwise, the writing is smooth and easy to follow.

3. the characters. There are a lot of characters from the previous books, and in this story, we get to see how they all are connected in greater detail. I liked seeing Abbey Fine again - the private investigator from book 3, Fiona Simmonds - the witch from book 3 also, how strong and confident she became to the point that she was not afraid to confront her mother. The new character - the detective Kenna Maxwell - fits right into the story, her collaboration with Abbey greatly helped to solve the murder mystery. Their skills and expertise complemented each other and they worked together like two professionals, without fighting. It was pleasant to read about such characters' interactions, and they all felt like one big family coming together to solve the case and figure out what to do.

4. the details. The amount of work the author put into connecting everything and explaining how it was all tied up is amazing. The rituals and other elements in the story (I will not name them not to spoil the story) were well thought-through and written out.

Overall opinion: a special and noteworthy book with an intriguing story and great characters. If you enjoy plot twists, unusual settings, and strong female characters, then this story is for you!

This is the first book by this author that I have read, but it won't be the last. This is the fourth book of the series but it read well as a stand alone.

Maryanna is from Tarben, a small village in Scotland. Her mother, Esme, has brought her up in circus where Esme reads futures in a crystal ball. Maryanna's the granddaughter of the leader of the local women's historical group (ie coven). She loves her grandmother and has a strained relationship with her mother and after a series of horrible events, she runs away to her grandmother.

As part of the coven, she improves her own skills but in 1938 becomes aware that there is something wrong. And then the murders start. In order to save lives, Maryanna, must work out how to best use her powers. As she does, things do not go as expected. Can she do what is necessary? and can she live with the consequences?

In 2018, new detective in town, Kenna, is called to a cottage in Tarbe. Centenarian, Mrs McDonald, has disappeared from her home. At the same time, a gorgeous young women has been found dead at her kitchen table. As time goes by and no progress is made on the case, Kenna finds herself willing to do more, and believe more, than she ever has before in order to find answers.

Initially, I found this slow going but once it started to move, it really zinged! This story has one of the most absorbing, interesting and creative uses of time travel that I have come across. Obviously this is not the classic detective story but it was certainly very engaging. There was one plot hole in the story but all in all, I found that I was gripped by the stories of both women.

Definitely recommended.

A WITCH THROUGH TIME, #4 - My goodness. The intrigue, the twists, the surprises that this book contains. I hated it AND I loved it - it's my favorite so far. The story is great but what happens to my favorite character made me sad. Remember the glitches with Mary's glamour, very unexpected. Source: BookSirens. 5*

THE WITCH CLUB, #1 - This is my first, but not last, book by this author. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting and intriguing this story was and the well done characters and story lines. I reluctantly put this book down several times for important reasons but rushed to start reading again as quickly as possible. Source: Booksprout. 4*

HERB WITCH FOR HIRE, #2 - As the story continues, it becomes more and more intriguing and immersing. Interesting story lines mixed with well developed characters made for another interesting read. This is another example of how difficult it is to keep a review from becoming a book report. Source: Booksprout. 5*

COOKING UP A WITCH, #3 - This is a little on the spooky side but an intense and interesting story. A good pace, well written with a good variety of characters make this another hard to put down read. The characters are steady growing and learning, and coming into their own. Source: BookSirens. 5*

NO REST FOR THE WICKED WITCH - An interesting, well written short story. An unexpected twist performed by Tara. Source: Bookfunnel. 4*

An intriguing look at time travel

This is the first book in this series I have read, and it absolutely works as a stand-alone story.

I did feel it began a bit slow, but once the story picked up I was hooked. It was intriguing to see how the parallel stories of the information the modern-day investigators uncovered and the story of how Maryanna became a time jumper meshed.

The author did an excellent job imaging how, exactly time travelers could and couldn't actually affect the outcome of people's lives. And the other witches' feelings in the present day when they learned of her manipulations in their pasts were realistic and relatable. Maryanna's struggles with understanding how her new life worked also felt real and drew me in, wanting to learn more.

The evolution of the skeptical no-nonsense inspector who just couldn't quite wrap her mind around what was right in front of her was also well done. She really wanted to find "rational" explanations for everything, but to her credit, as the evidence mounted she finally and reluctantly allowed the PI she ended up working with, and the witches of the coven, to convince her of the truth.

Both Maryanna and the investigators faced multiple false starts and unexpected twists until we finally came to see just how Maryanna's travels through time affected her and those around her. I enjoyed this book.

I received a free advanced reader copy of this book from BookSirens and this is my voluntary review.

Another excellent read by Felicity Green. This book can be read as a ‘stand-alone’ but so many clues from previous novels in the series come to fruition here. The novel starts with the death of a young woman in the house of Coven leader, Mary McDonald, and Mrs McDonald seems to have disappeared. As the story progresses, we are introduced to the young Maryanna and become aware of the conflict between her circus mother, Esme, and her Tarbet grandmother, Mairi. Felicity Green manipulates time so well in this novel, firstly, through flashbacks to Maryanna’s history, and then manages to keep the reader present during the time jumping episodes. The introduction to Kenna, who is investigating the murder, and the return of Abbey Fine, a paranormal investigator, brought back to Tarbet by a request from Mrs McDonald, herself, helps us to live in the present of the novel, while also travelling to the past and future. I love the way Felocity Green works a plot and creates believable characters. I’m loath to say more for fear of giving too much away, but, I’m delighted to know that I can look forward to another book in the series, in the future. What a shame I can’t time jump, otherwise I could read it now! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the fourth book in the Scottish Witches Mysteries series and, as I liked the previous books, as expected, I looked into the next one. You can definitely read this one as a standalone again, as there is enough detail provided by the author about what happened previously.
I usually don't like stories with past and future storylines, as the parts written in the present are usually dull compared to the old times. But here, I liked it a lot.
This time, we follow the mysterious coven leader, Mrs. Maryanna MacDonald. The story is told by Kenna, someone who appears near the witches later and does not know them well. She's an inspector and investigates the death of a young woman found in Mrs. MacDonald’s kitchen.
I loved the interaction of the characters and also the twists and turns while trying to investigate the murder. Mrs. MacDonald’s past was well crafted, and I enjoyed the interactions with her family and also the dilemma about her future.
I think this series is getting better with every single book and I recommend it if you want to relax while reading something exciting.

Bravo Felicity Green . Always a pleasurable experience reading one of these magnificent stories. Following two women across the spanse of time…. We are immersed into the story , it unravelling immediately as the scene opens on the death of a young woman who bears a remarkable resemblance to that of the now missing older eccentric B&B owner Maryanna Macdonald . 1930’s Inspector Kenna Maxwell is intrigued indeed as her enquiries follow a tangent not dissimilar to the younger Maryanna much earlier in time. This was so intriguing and interesting and intricate knitting together of clues and the traits of the characters and their personalities ,awe inspiring storytelling . It’s uber immersive , an unputdownable masterpiece , such a thrilling reading experience . Well written, an eye to every detail , weaved so succinctly with nods to the other books in series it is indeed a pleasure to read. The whole story blew me away. This is the 4th book in the series and in it we find out more about Mrs MacDonald and her life. It’s told from 2 POVs, the young Mary in the 1930s, and Kenna Maxwell, a police officer in 2018. We learn about Mary’s relationship, or lack of, with her mother Rosa, the different life she led as a Traveller and why Rosa had always been disappointed with her.

I liked Kennas character and her connection to the area, her grandfather and her no nonsense character as she struggled to take in what she had seen and heard. As a police officer she was used to dealing with facts and evidence, finding it difficult to believe in magic, but needing to trust her instinct.

There was a lot to take in during this book, I found it a bit confusing at times
and kept mixing up Māori and Maryanne. However, the story does explain some of the things that happened in previous books. Not my favourite of the series but still a good read.

Felicity Green’s A Witch Through Time, the fourth book in the Scottish Witches Mysteries series, is an engaging story. It skillfully weaves together two timelines—Maryanna’s mystical journey in the past and Kenna’s modern-day investigation—creating a tale full of suspense and surprises.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, the book combines mystery, history, and witchcraft in a way that feels fresh and exciting. The characters, especially the determined Kenna and the spirited Maryanna, are easy to connect with, and the vivid descriptions make you feel like you’re right there in Tarbet.

The mix of magic, Tarot cards, and family secrets adds a unique twist to the murder mystery. With its strong story and fascinating details, A Witch Through Time is perfect for readers who love mysteries with a supernatural edge. A truly enjoyable read!

This installment of the Scottish Witches Mystery series is different than the rest!

A Witch Through Time is the fourth book in the series. This is both similar and very different than the other three. Once again, we learn about a witch—this time the coven leader, Mrs. MacDonald—through the eyes of a newcomer to the village of Tarbet and not a witch. While it is nice we get to learn what happens to the others in this village—like Declan and Dessie having a child—we also get to meet a new person—Kenna, who investigates the death of a young woman found in Mrs. MacDonald’s kitchen. What follows is a trip through the past and the present as Kenna solves the mystery. I really love this series and cannot recommend it highly enough!

Another great book. It was a page turner and the suspense was absolutely incredible and witchcraft. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. It was an action packed of realistic drama of dreams and fun. Maryanna was about to do a spell with her grandmother Māiri as she will be expressing her love for magic. So she decide to follow a traveling circus with a gypsy princess named Esmeralda it was about Maryanna future and to where she need to go in her life. But she was going through a lot in her life and how will she survive in this world.

I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed.

4.75/5

The fourth book in the series focuses on the coven leader and as the name of the book suggests, it involves time travel.

The book is brilliantly written, and i don't say this lightly because it involves two different timelines, running parallely. Even then the simple writing technique helps in keeping a track of what is happening.

I was glad to see Abbey, (character from the 3rd book) become an integral part of the story, however I missed the inclusion of young witches in the mystery. I felt that now that we had books defining their growth and journeys they could have come together for this book, but maybe that's what we will find in the fifth book.

What a fantastic journey following the lives of Maryanne, Mairi and Kenna into the past, present and future could be difficult to follow, NOT so with this book! Ms. Felicity Green has masterfully woven the times and events in a crystal clear fantastic story. The characters all come to life. Some old, some young, some good and some not so good. It becomes the travelers quest to try to stop certain things from happening. Every chapter had me so mesmerized that I could not put the book down. For me, this was the best traveling thru time book. OH! Kenna? Who is she? you will have to just read the book.

I'm not a fan of time travel , but I enjoyed this series so much that I thought I'd take a chance and try it. I'm very glad I did . It's unique and not like other time travels I've read. Mary MacDonald passed a huge important legacy on to the younger witches of the coven. It was an honor that carried much importance and heavy burdens with it too. I liked that Maryanna learned much about herself as she time traveled, and knew how important it was to only change what's necessary because of ripple effects. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.

Inspector Declan Reid and Inspector Kenna Maxwell are called to the Thistle Inn Bed and Breakfast when the body of a young woman who resembled Mrs. Maryanna MacDonald was murdered. Kenna also learns of the gruesome murders in the past of some of the witches belonging to the coven. Then Mrs. Maryanna goes missing g and Kenna has her hands full investigation the disappearance. A captivating read. I received this ARC copy via booksirans and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.

Sometimes I am just so enthralled with a book, I can’t stand to put it down, and this book was like that for me. There is an unexpected murder, and I was shocked to find out who it was: Mrs. MacDonald, or at least a younger version of her. What follows is an intriguing, engrossing trip through the present and the past. I thought I knew how this was going to play out, and boy was I wrong at just about every turn. I’ve loved every book in this series, but this one is by far the best. Loved this! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The Traveling Witch

I really enjoyed this book. It brings the story of Mrs. McDonald to us the readers. Felicity did a great job explaining Mrs. McDonald's life and how her life came about. You are taken back to the 1930's and also the present. You are given glimpses of the coven, in the past, and how a coven is brought into the present with a new set of leaders. There is definitely murders involved as well as a mysterious death. It is a bridge between the old and the new. Great read.

This is the book I wanted to get to so I sat through the first three - but sadly it didn't quite live up to the hype.

I had been hoping to see more about how Maryanna time travelled, not just be told about it. That would have made for a really interesting story, I think, but the focus wqs unfortunately elsewhere.

The rest of the cast isn't as strong to reel me in for a fifth book, so this is where I leave them.

A truly intriguing paranormal cozy mystery the array of familiar characters from the first three books and new vibrant, colorful, inquisitive characters that will definitely draw you into this tale. But it's the plot so full of witchy trouble and magical mayhem of betrayal, secrets, deception beyond imagine. A tale of a perception in good versus evil. I was completely unaware of time moving forward around me once I started reading this intriguing tale until I reached its conclusion. Acquire " A Witch Through Time " for hours of unimaginable intrigue and an enjoyable experience .Kat

I really enjoyed the story of Mrs. McDonald and learning the truth about her. I also liked the introduction of the new character, Kenna, and think her and Abbey would make a good team. However, I have some questions still, like why did Kenna’s grandfather remember things? I’m also a bit surprised by who Mrs. McDonald decided to leave in charge of the coven and am curious to see how that plays out in the future!

Finally! This was the story I have been waiting for. All my questions from the previous books about the coven leader have been answered. And I was not disappointed. This was by far the best book of the series. With the mystery and intrigue the other books are missing, I didn't want to put this one down. It is a little bitter sweet if you've been reading the books back to back. You tend to get a little attached to the characters. I also feel like the writing was better as well, except for some grammar errors. I can't say it was worth it, reading the previous books, but I still enjoyed it.

I LOVE this series! There is nothing I don't like about it. The stories are interesting, the characters are crazy and it's paranormal on top of that. This story combines two murders, one in the present and one in the 1930s and poor Kenna has to figure out what's going on. Nothing adds up, nothing makes sense. I couldn't put the book down, I had to finish it in one sitting!

This was an incredible read. A really complex and gripping story which gave the backstory of one of the prominent characters in the series.

I loved the teaming up of the new police inspector with the private investigator. The two women, though not witches themselves made a formidable team.

I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

I owe everything to her.

My favorite book in this series so far and I didn’t see it coming! When I saw this was Mary(anna9 McDonald’s story all I could see was the nearly 100 year old witch that ruled over the coven with a tight fist and few words. And my oh my, that was definitely an illusion that turned everything we thought we knew about the Scottish Witches of Tarbet upside down. Well done!
