Wow I have such mixed feelings about this book! It started out iffy, the first 15% I was unsure about the direction of the book and was a bit bored. Then from 15-60% I was loving it while also have my heart ripped clean out of my chest the entire time and I was so so invested. Then the last 40% just dragged on and on and got so repetitive and I lost interest.

This has:
- fated mates
- Forbidden love
- Star crossed lovers
- He falls first
- Found family

This is definitely a fantasy romance e where the plot centers around the romance and god the romance was so good until it wasn’t. It started out very insta lusty which turned me off at first but then once we dive deeper into the story I understood why. I was consumed by the forbidden painful second chance romance like my heart was ACHING for these two and everything they went through. Like this book is sheer pain and angst. But then there was just so much repetition I was over the pain and suffering and I just needed it to be over!!!! It really have no other explanation other than I just lost interest. The main characters were likable but I wasn’t obsessed with them. If this says anything this ended on a massive cliffhanger and I simply don’t want to read the second book in this duet. Like I feel like I was hit by a bus and run over because of the pain of their story and now I’m over it. wtf is wrong with me.

My Thoughts:

If you want a romantasy with forbidden love and high angst that will repeatedly rip your heart out of your chest and stomp on till there’s nothing left, pick up this book.

I am a total hoe for star-crossed lover romances, so naturally I was intrigued from the start. But what makes this story unputdownable is the constant state of tragedy the MCs are subjected to because of their love. Senan and Allette's romance is doomed from the start, yet their love has them risking it all. Unfortunately, their only reward is heartache and pain, and as the reader, you will acutely feel their loss and devastation. I've been promised by the author that their story has a happily ever after, but damn, getting there is going to be absolutely brutal. I love it.

Senan and Allette are interesting characters. They're well developed and likable. They're put in a terrible situation and make choices that had my wanting to scream and pull my hair out, but at the end of the day, I understand why they do what they do. Even though Senan and Allette's romance is very fanciful, they still feel real and relatable.

There's definitely a bit of spice for you smut lovers. The first few intimate scenes are pretty non-descriptive but as the book goes on they get more and more explicit. They're not super graphic or very long, but it's just enough to keep you satisfied.

I adored Senan's relationship with his brothers, especially the youngest, Kyff. From their sweet conversations to their sparring lessons, you feel the love Senan has for Kyff. It seems like he takes on a parental role, since their parents are dead. And the way Senan would let the king manipulate him in order to protect Kyff's well-being had my heart aching. 🥺 Senan loves with his whole heart, and unfortunately, that means the way to truly hurt him is to hurt the ones he loves. And he would do anything to protect them, even if that means hurting himself.

This fae world is really interesting. There's two races: Scathian and Tuath. The Scathians are a winged race with elemental magic and they make up the upper class of society. The Tuath are wingless, without magic, and live to serve the Sythian. Unfortunately, they are not fairly treated and throughout the story we see there's some dissent among them. I think there may be an uprising on the horizon! I also found the court politics/international affairs interesting and hope we dive into that too in the next book.

The last 10% of the book had me in a chokehold!!!! I flew through those pages because I just had to know what the hell was happening, and OMG I was honestly shooketh. The events that took place had me fuming, cheering, hoping, and then panicking. So much happened that I didn't see coming. And it ends with a cliffhanger that left me gasping! I'm quite literally dying for the next book!

If I enjoyed this so much, why isn't it getting 5-stars?

The writing was sometimes wordy and repetitive. More than a few times, there were redundant explanations or repetitive emotional inner dialogue. Some of it was fine, but there were more than a few talking points that were brought up too much (in my opinion). Because of this, I did end up skimming at certain points.

I am so glad we had dual timelines, but how it was done was a bit jarring. The story starts by going back and forth between Senan and Allette's past and present. And right when I would get comfortable in one timeline, it would switch. I almost wish it was all chronological. Honestly, this probably could have even been a three part series where book 1 was all about them getting together and book 2 was the present.

I do not like when MCs sleep with other people, even after they think their partner is dead. I KNOW this is realistic, BUT I'm so protective of couples that it hurts my heart to think that while they were in pain and missing their person, they were banging someone else. It just feels wrong and makes it seem like their love was never THAT life changing. Because if they truly loved each other, they would never have sex with anyone else, right? I know this is naive of me, but it's how I feel while reading about true love.

The 'love' between Senan and Allette had its weak moments. I think this is because of Allette's insecurities. Once she returns, she is quick to assume Senan has moved on, which is understandable since she sees him with his betrothed. But they were mated and bonded. That's a big deal in their society - it's for life. So, while I get she was upset and nervous, I don't know why her first instinct isn't to run to him. That's his first instinct after all. Especially if this is star-crossed love.

Overall, Bound By Gravity is a great first book in this new series. If you want a romantic fae love story with lots of angst and heartache, definitely give this a read!

Thank you to Jenny Hickman and The Nerd Fam for sending me an eARC and signed, finished copy in exchange for an honest review! As always, all opinions are my own.

I will write a proper review later but if you enjoy having your heart ripped out, stomped on, and then being laughed at, read this book.

It's a very good book.

"We were never meant for happily-ever-after.
I knew that from the moment this doomed relationship began.
I fell in love with him anyway."

This is an incredible fantasy romance book, weaving the beautiful origin story of Senan and Allette's doomed romance with their present day trials and challenges.

Bound by Gravity is the first in a new series from Jenny, set in the fantasy kingdom of Kumulus, where the Fae face a social divide with the winged Scathian ruling over the land-bound Tuath. This is a series of duets, so this book does end on a delicious cliffhanger, with plot twists you won't see coming. There are plenty of little hints throughout the book which gives you an idea of what may be coming for the other books and couples in the series, and I am genuinely so excited to see what else Jenny does with these characters!

Every character is so well developed and fleshed out, the plot is well paced and exciting, it's just the perfect balance of character growth and action. I cannot stop thinking about this book and all that happens in it! Jenny truly is the queen of emotional damage in her writing and I felt every emotion reading this book. I laughed, I cried, I threw my kindle in shock and horror.

"When we first met, I fought this attraction, but quickly realized that one cannot declare war on the inevitable.
And inevitable is what we are.
Our love. Our passion. Our ending."

I cannot recommend Jenny's books enough, if you like a fantasy with a healthy balance of plot and romance, a touch of spice, and detailed but not overwhelming world building, these books hit that sweet spot every time.

4.5 ⭐ - Is this going to hurt you? yes. Are you going to love it anyway? Also yes.

I loved this and could barely put it down. Right away this felt different than your typical fantasy romance with fae. I thought the pacing was perfect because it grabbed my attention from the beginning and never lost it. Expect plenty of banter and angst, jaw-dropping plot twists, emotional damage and a delicious side of spice.

My only complaint was that certain things felt a bit repetitive. The MMC called the FMC "my girl" which would have been sweet if it wasn't used soooo many times. There was a spicy chapter where he said "that's my girl" 3 times. Obviously this is a very minor complaint, hence my rating.

WELL, THAT WAS CRUEL!! 4.5⭐️

For having not one, but two of my least favorite tropes-this was still a banger. This book sucked me in, and gave me hope for the romantasy genre once again. Book 2 is not a want, it is a NEED. Beware, there’s a doozy of a cliffhanger with this one…

So fun yet gut wrenching all wrapped up in a book. This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotions, one chapter I was laughing and swoon, the next I was angry, and then I was shocked and crying.

The fantasy world was so good and magical, the banter was hilarious. I loved Senans personality and his funny swagger (I think the audiobook really helped me understand him better). I also really enjoyed that it was a second chance romance, I don’t normally see that in a Romantasy book.

I highly recommend the audiobook as well.

The utter definition of star-crossed lovers, with a twist that only fantasy can bring, this story is a journey as poignantly beautiful and tragic as life itself. Jenny has crafted a world that is as breathtaking and broken as its characters, and a love story that transcends all highs and lows in the perfect introduction to this ethereal kingdom. Step aside, Romeo and Juliet—Allette and Senan are here to stay!

3.5 ⭐️

That ending had me in pain!

-----

If there’s a book that perfectly embodies the Romantasy genre, it's Bound by Gravity.
This novel is not just a love story; it's a tragedy woven with destiny and inevitable heartbreak. 💔

From the very first chapters, it’s clear that our protagonists are "mates"—a bond that’s self-proclaimed yet undeniable. There's little buildup to their relationship, and we quickly learn that they’re willing to do anything for each other. However, it’s just as clear early on that their love is doomed from the start. 🌌

Though the plot is at times predictable, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it, especially in the last 10 chapters. 📖 This is where all the betrayals come to light, and we see just how far the true villain of this story will go to get what he wants. 😈

Alette was a challenging character to read. There were moments when I couldn’t stand her—seriously, girl, open your eyes! 😩 But then there were times I felt deeply for her, sympathizing with the cruel fate destiny dealt her.

Senan, the dark prince, was a more complex character and, in many ways, more compelling than Alette. I particularly appreciated his depth, but I wished his addiction had played a bigger role in their relationship. It’s a shame that Alette never truly acknowledged it, as I think this delicate topic could have been handled with more care. ⚔️🖤

Overall, I enjoyed the book. The middle dragged a bit, but as the story progressed, it definitely picked up the pace.

And that cliffhanger at the end? It’ll leave you speechless! 😱

Bound by Gravity (Yerçekimi ile Bağlı) 🤨

Romeo ve Juliet in Romantasy..

Teoriyi test edemem.😭

Hauntingly Beautiful!! This is the best way I can describe this masterpiece of a first book in the Bound and Freed duology. The emotional turmoil I went through is something I will never forget. I have been a complete mess since finishing this! My heart aches on a level I cannot even put into words!

The relationship between Senan and Allette proves there is nothing you won’t do for a love that transcends time. They continually are fighting against all the obstacles thrown their way and are the epitome of resilience and perseverance. The relationship Senan has with his youngest brother is endearing and will have your heart melting.

The way Jenny switches between the past and present while also alternating POVs was done so brilliantly. There is mystery and jaw dropping moments and the most epic love story all wrapped up in a bow! If you love an emotional read that will leave you feeling utterly spent from the highs and lows, then you MUST read this!! And even if you don’t, read it anyway! Just please, I’m begging, pick this one up! Then you can also send your therapy bills to Jenny with me while I wait for the next book to HEAL my shattered heart!!

If I didn’t convince you already, maybe some of my favorite quotes will:

Doesn’t she know that a man cannot survive without his heart? I suppose I have no choice but to track her down and ask for it back.

I will love you until the sun implodes and the stars no longer shine.

He is slow destruction and utter devastation, and when his thorough exploration ends, I realize what it means to be utterly ruined for any other man.

Our love isn’t the kind you read about in sonnets. Our love doesn’t bring light and happiness. It brings pain and devastation. And yet I wouldn’t change it for the world because as tragic as it is, this love is ours.

******

My second read of this gutted me even more than the first time! This book is BRILLIANT! Absolute must read! Easily a top book of the year!!

I was enthralled, entranced and enraptured from start to finish. This is a book you can’t put down and a story that you can’t escape from, Senan and Allette’s story is hauntingly beautiful and heartbreaking. Their love defies all the odds and obligations and gives us an incredible glimpse at how love can conquer all.

I kept turning the page and hoping that this book didn’t end where it did, Jenny never fails to make me swoon, squeal and scream- her banter never misses and she doesn’t pull those hard punches. I love you for that Jenny, please never change! You keep me on my toes and keep me coming back for more! I finished this book in less than 24 hours!

This is singlehandedly the worst book I have read all year. There is little to no plot, the writing is bad, and the characters act like 15-year-old teenagers instead of people in their 20s. I was so fucking frustrated with the miscommunication, or better said, the lack of communication between the characters. Don't waste your time reading this book.

Too long, don’t read! 👇

The characters were so RAW and relatable! Their anguish was palpable. I felt like I was experiencing their love and loss firsthand and it was such a wonderful reading experience.

It’ll have me in a chokehold forever. Bound By Gravity pulled me in immediately and just never let me go! As a seeker of those fuzzy feelings I get when reading romance, this absolutely checked that box 1000x over. It was downright swoon-worthy and HILARIOUS! That first kiss scene was the funniest thing and I will never forget it! 🤣 😘 I laughed, I blushed, I kicked my feet and sighed throughout.

Fate had other plans, though…

It also broke my heart into a million f*cking pieces. Senan and Allette were MADE for each other, but alas, they must suffer for their love. Star-crossed lovers kept apart by Earth-shattering, mind-blowing betrayals of epic proportions! Every bad thing that can possibly happen to this couple, happens, and it’s so hard to be an onlooker to the torture they endure. I can’t even count the amount of times I had to close my Kindle case and take a step back to wipe tears from my eyes. Do you ever stop and stare into oblivion while processing what you’ve just read? I’ll be living in fear over what fresh hell Jenny Hickman decides to put these two through in the next book! 😭😳

Thank you so much to the author, Jenny Hickman, and NerdFam for the opportunity to read this!! To say I LOVED this is an understatement!! 🖤 I knew immediately that I’d be ordering a physical copy and adding the author to my auto-buy list.

god, this one HURT.

This story includes star-crossed lovers that despite all of the challenges they go through, never stop fighting to be with one another. I absolutely loved the sweet & cheeky banter between the MCs.

This had a unique spin on fae-worlds, angst, and drama. I really liked both MCs so much, and the heroine was honestly a badass more so than the hero which was a nice change of pace. I’m excited to see what the other part of the duology has to offer, especially after that gut wrenching ending. Boris needs to pay 😭

JENNY, I WANNA CRY AND SCREAM AND THEN THANK YOU FOR THE PAIN ????????

This was so damn heartbreaking, but in the best way! The love story is so beautiful but DAMN. I was wondering why one of the tropes was star-crossed. I am wondering no longer. 🥲

The MMC Senen was so freaking funny. I love him. There were times I wanted him to man the fuck up and abandon his destiny, but after learning the risks by the end I understood.

Ugh this poor couple!!!!

The plot twists really got me. This was such a fun rollercoaster, and I had a hard time putting this book down.

I love Jenny’s writing. She is one of my favorite fantasy authors. Her stories are very character driven with an emphasis on romance, but her worlds just make sense. Even when the characters are going through such hardships, I want to be there so bad!!

"Bound by Gravity" by Jenny Hickman is a fantastic fantasy romance that had me hooked from the start. Allette and Senan's story is the ultimate star-crossed lover's tale, filled with forbidden love, high stakes, and lots of drama. She's the daughter of a lowly lord, and he's a prince betrothed to someone else – talk about a complicated love life!

The dual POVs and timelines kept things interesting, and the chemistry between Allette and Senan is off the charts. There's a bit of spice too, just enough to keep things steamy without going overboard.

I absolutely loved Senan's relationship with his brothers, especially the youngest, Kyff. Their interactions added a sweet and heartfelt touch to the story. The cliffhanger ending left me on the edge of my seat, and I can't wait for the next book. If you're into romantasy with lots of angst, magic, and swoon-worthy moments, then I highly recommend this one!

Oh my GOODNESS! I was in shock for a while after finishing this book. It absolutely swept me away. I would advise that you read this book when (in the words of Michael Scott) you are, “ready to get hurt again”.

Fantasy. Winged fae. Forbidden love. Fated mates. Who did this to you? Touch her and d!e. Banter. Angst. Pining.

I loved the setting and gradual world building. Amazing characters. I was immediately hooked and loved the use of flashbacks in the story.

From the first line of chapter one: “We were never meant for happily-ever-after.” To the shocking, “To be continued” at the end. Jenny Hickman has crafted a completely engrossing story that took me through the full gamut of emotions and I LOVED IT. I laughed. I swooned. I cried. I yelled at the characters. I threw my kindle. I’m dying for the next book!

Thank you, Jenny, for a chance to review an advance copy.

READ THIS BOOK! This book will give you all the emotions and have you screaming by then end.

Bound by Gravity is a hauntingly beautiful love story with star crossed lovers and forbidden romance.

This book gave me a huge book hungover. That ending! I gasped, cried and screamed. I still can't stop thinking of these characters. Even the secondary characters are living rent free in my mind.

The flashback scenes and seeing the beginning of their love story with so much excitement, innocence and sneaking around.

Jenny portrayal of grief so well done in this book. Shows you that not all grief is the same.

Allette is so strong for everything that has been dealt to her. Her journey is inspiring

I love Senan! The things that Senan thinks and the comments out of his mouth had me squealing. He was hilarious and I love how his mind works. I love how he is [redacted] of [redacted]- my absolute favorite thing about him. I was dying.

I was lucky enough to Beta read this. I have loved seeing Jenny form this story into the masterpiece it is.

Please read this book! It's worth it.

When he sneaked away with his one true love through a portal to the human world, they decided to exchange vows and only belong to each other. Duty be damned. Freshly wed, he was kidnapped ‘back’ to his kingdom and his wife left in the human realm, magic drained and wings cut off.
Four years she had to live there, and for four years the prince thought she was dead. She found the portal open after being lied to for years, only to return and find her prince ready to be married off, her title stripped and homeless. Things can’t get worse, right?

Wrong.
If you look up the definition of star crossed lovers, next to Romeo and Juliet, you will find these characters: Senan and Allette.
This was honestly so painfully good I couldn’t stop reading and if you are anything like me and enjoy being tortured this book is absolutely for you.

The pacing is great, you get jumps in the timeline and just when you think you finally figured out what this author has up her sleeve she pulls multiple rabbits out of this magical book hat and slaps you with it.
It’s great. 10/10 would recommend.

THAT ending?!

Holy crap this book- I devoured it. Jenny you’re a mastermind and I bow to your ability to shock me every time. Well done. This gripping tale will have you invested from start to finish. I at no point knew where this journey was going to end and boy was I unwell at the end- holy cliffhanger - but it’s worth the fall. I promise you want to read this book- it doesn’t disappoint. Happy reading 🩵

Okay wow. Well my heart is a million pieces and I have NO idea where we go from here.

If you love a star-crossed lovers story, this is for you.
If you love screaming at characters to get it together and think/speak/do something? This is for you.
If you love hilarious MMCs who are the definition of down bad, this is for you.

The characters are relatable, multifaceted, make decisions that are understandable (if also infuriating). There’s world building without any info dumping. And Senan is just everything.

I laughed, I internally screamed, I wished Senan was my man, I screamed some more. That about sums it up. I devoured this in a day and I can’t wait for part two!

Thank you SO MUCH Jenny for the ARC!! I only regret it because how I have longer to wait for the conclusion—I played myself 😂

This book was heartbreaking. The premise itself is sad, but, boy howdy this was such a heartbreaking tale, these characters never get a break.

I really did like this story, and I liked the two main characters, but sometimes the writing really took me out of the plot. It felt a bit more juvenile in the inner dialogue, and the banter between the two main characters.

Overall, I would recommend to a friend, and I look forward to the next book!

Read this book when you want to be swept away in a tragic, forbidden romance filled with swoons, tears, and gasps. I loved everything about it and will be counting down the days for book 2. Beware of the cliffhanger - it’s one of the most brutal endings I’ve read (aside from Forced Bonds, for which I still haven’t forgiven J. Bree).

“The trouble with falling for someone you cannot keep? Goodbyes always come too soon.”

Aside from the love story, what I felt so profoundly were the soul-touching moments around grief and depression. These characters experienced perpetual hardship, and it impacted them severely. I felt their pain as deeply as I felt their joy in moments of happiness.

“I don’t need to be fixed. I’d rather be broken.”

“Just because you don’t understand my grief doesn’t mean I’m doing it wrong.”

For my friends who love romantasy, please read this book. I know you will love it as much as I did.

I don't think I've ever read a second chance fantasy romance, so when I read the synopsis I was intrigued!

The writing was great and I had a really good time reading! I read it in two evenings, so that's always a good sign for a good book.

There were a few things I struggled with though.
It's a second chance romance, I know, but I struggled with seeing a connection/chemistry between the fmc and mmc. We do get a few 'Then'-Scenes but they really weren't enough for me to get the idea of why they are in love. What is their story? Why are they soul mates? There was just something lacking, which I found a bit disappointing.

There also wasn't really a proper story line, I think? I would've loved to know more about the world and the dynamics the characters live in. It was always just about sernan and allette but there was never really something I would consider a proper plot unless you count the end.

The end did make me curious with what's going to happen! So I'm quite interested in how the story continues and am really hoping that there will be more of a story in the second book.
