"I don't know how to win Fiona, but I do know how to fight. And I will fight for her with everything I have..."FIONA
When I spontaneously kiss Dalk at midnight during our Deep Sky New Year's Eve party, I become aware of two
I may have a crush on the grumpiest alien warrior at our settlement. I may also be ever-so-slightly sexually harassing him.
He never mentions the kiss afterwards, and neither do I, except to awkwardly apologize and tell him it will never happen again. But that just seems to make grouchy Dalk even, well, grouchier.
I can't figure him out, and all his staring and glaring sure doesn't help. I try to put it out of my mind as we all prepare for a vaklok - a traditional Deep Sky tournament meant to showcase the unmated males' strengths and skills.
Oxriel and Zoren are competing, too. I tell myself that I'll cheer for everyone equally... Even if Dalk is the only one I watch.
DALK
I have watched Fiona, the human with the flowers on her skin, ever since I rescued her from the zeelk that fateful day out on the open sands.
I have wanted her nearly as long.
So when she throws her arms around me and puts her mouth on mine, hope blooms... Only to be dashed when she tells me it was a mistake she will not repeat.
I do not know what I did wrong. I do not know how to win her.
But the vaklok is coming. If I can prove myself a champion against Oxriel and Zoren and all of Gahn Thaleo's men... Maybe she will finally find me worthy.
Well that was just a delight! The last few books Ursa has written have definitely been on the darker side, as she mentions in her author's note. Definitely read that before diving in, as it gives some context to the story structure in the beginning. It was nice to revisit the humor I know and love from this author, and since the world-building has been done in previous books, there was able to be a lot more focus on the characters and their relationship. It was fluffy. And utterly hilarious, with the confused hero who couldn't seem to understand how to have basic social interactions and the outspoken heroine who was simultaneously aggravated and turned on by the lovable brute. I highlighted most of the ebook, because there was no end to memorable scenes and funny lines. Since it was written in dual POV, we get to see the hero's perspective, and the poor guy was pretty much all brawn. At one point, he tries to shoot a bow, gets distracted by the heroine, and he drops the arrow. In his frustration, he breaks the bow, and instead of accepting defeat, he uses it like a spear to hit the target dead on. I had to put the book down, I was laughing so hard. And don't get me started on the multiple interactions he had with his fellow alien, Oxriel, who is now one of my favorite aliens of all time. I hope he gets his own book.
The comedy of errors and miscommunication this couple had will have you laughing and smiling the whole time you're reading. Some of it was a language barrier, as well as a cultural barrier, but other times it was just the fact that our hero, Dalk, couldn't see past his own nose. And our heroine, Fiona, just figured he was a grumpy sort who didn't have any interest in her as a female. He tolerated her. Except...he didn't. He wanted her so badly, and it was so cute how jealous he became when he saw how nice she was to others. He had no idea how to make her see how he felt, and while he thought maybe he could get past it, he had trouble once others noticed her too. Fiona kissing him at New Years was the catalyst of it all, and all Dalk wanted was another kiss. Another moment alone where he could wrap himself around her and have her entirely to himself. There was a bit of angst towards the end when they were worried about whether or not they were true mates. Fiona didn't want to be abandoned later if a mate was chosen for him, and Dalk just planned to unalive whoever Fiona's mate was to ensure they could remain together, which naturally, Fiona was concerned about. Although it took time for them to get on the same page, the journey there was magical and funny and an all-around good time. And steamy. My goodness.
Ursa, if you take requests, I know you already have plans with another couple that were highlighted in this story. But Ox needs a mate too. He is way too lovable to be alone.
**I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest review.**
Dalk was such a grumpy stabby guy and I loved him for it. Fiona balanced out some of his… proclivities with kindness and fierceness. He was possessive AF and in sooooo much denial at the beginning of the book. They had some miscommunication, but it was fairly short lived, and due partly to cultural differences. They were adorable together! The book was also relatively cozy for being in the universe, with only controlled not-to-the-death fights, and that was a nice change of pace.

“You understand what it’s like to want someone so completely you feel like you will merely... merely fall apart and cease existing if you cannot have her? ” Le estaba contando a su papá aquí sobre ella oww
"The only man I'd ever want to be is the man who can be with you."
SWOON. I'm totally in love with Mr. Scowling Grump. He's the perfect grumpy, possessive, lethal MMC. I don't think I could have resisted him after watching that first competition in the vaklok. 🥵
Alien characters not understanding human phrases and gestures will never not be hilarious to me. There was so much of it in this book and the banter between Dalk and Fiona had me cracking up the entire time.
There was a sprinkle of everything in this story and it was such a fun read! Drama, angst, slow burn, mutual pining, a bit of flirting, look at her and 💀 vibes....perfect.
And poor Oxriel. 🤣 He was in danger so often in this book. He needs to have more self preservation. At least where Dalk is concerned.
I knew how to fight. Knew how to give blows and receive them. I could break, and I could bleed, because I’d done those things countless times before, and somehow all of that was far less painful than this. This – watching Fiona smile at another man and not knowing what to do about it.

I was so happy to revisit Zaphrinax and the Sea Sand troupe! This series has really become one of my favourites and Alien Champion, the new installment, did not disappoint. Naturally.
The banter between grumpy puss Dalk and Fiona was pure perfection. I cackled so many times. Aliens confused with humans’ words and expressions? Yes, please. I could read about that in every alien book and never get tired of it.
Our leads were amazing characters as well and I must admit I was not a Dalk fan in the previous books. I am now a changed woman, FORGIVE ME DALK. Must have been that thrown crushed-up bow move, whew!
We got served a little angst when Fiona spoke of her fears and when Dalk had to unexpectedly return to the Sea Sands settlement for a final goodbye. I did not cry… nope, just dust in my eyes…
This was so amazing. I gobbled it up in hours. Dalk is hilarious and the dynamic he and Oxriel share is honestly the highlight of this story - actually amazing. Grumpy x alien x tall - what else can you want in a man? Dalk is your guy, for real.
I need Thaleo and Nasrin’s story more than I need oxygen, I don’t think anyone understands what it will mean to me. Ursa, please send me the manuscript, I will give you my firstborn and two nickels.
Doubling down on that extra hundred pages being the difference between 3 and 5 stars. It was still enjoyable as a plot, but it just felt like the ending was somewhat abrupt? I enjoyed the games and I loved the possessiveness and bossiness in the MMC that we don't see to this degree in previous books (with the exception of Book2 lmao iykyk)
I'm fucking STOKED for the other two couples!! And Ox hopefully will finally get someone. We're down to like the last five women and I'm SWEATIN wishing another ship would crash land so the series will never end.
I'm THIIIIS close to starting an Ursa Dax/Sea Sand Warlords tag on AO3 and going hard on writing fanfic.
These books are SO good. Easy to read, enjoyable, over way too fast. I loved grumpy, surly Dalk. I enjoyed watching the unmated males compete against each other and Dalk's jealousy. I love a MMC who is pining hard over the FMC, and this definitely checks that box.The only bad part is the wait for the next book! I found myself giggling and actually laughing in several parts. I loved their quips back and forth and just their interactions! I'm hoping sweet, goofy, Oxriel gets a story next as well as Thaleo.

I always find the heroes really earnest and endearing and Dalk was no exception!
Since you got his POV, you know he wasn’t as abrupt as his words made him seem. But because Fiona didn’t know that, I did think the switch from her thinking he’s grumpy and doesn’t like her to being in love was a bit fast.
But I still liked them together a lot! He was super obsessed with her, which I love in these stories.
It’s not the most plot or action heavy series, but definitely good if you want a cute alien read!

Loved it, even though I’m usually too impatient for slower burns. This entire series is a comfort read series for me and I simply never want it to end.
Note: I hate the trope that we/women should put up with big, grumpy, stubborn men.
That being said there were a LOT of fun laugh out loud moments in this book and I enjoyed it.
Needs better editing … slacking on words that should be plural and homonyms and mixing up her and his. I think this was the first book I noticed this so much.
𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖/𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: The Sea Sand books are some of my favorite alien romances to read. The stories are each different with a huge variety of tropes and characters. They all sort of flow in a similar path yet the stories fluctuate very differently. One thing that is always the same though; they are lovely. It's such a simple way to describe them but it fits so well.
This was just the same. It was such a lovely read. It, like all of the rest in this series, has all of the side features that make it a full story. Drama, a little danger here and there, humor, emotion, spice, tension, angst... and so many other fun little details that make these stories the perfect go-to reads when you're wanting something romantic and something new.
Dalk and Fiona's story was definitely a "hidden feelings", miscommunication/non-communication romance with alot of angst, spicy slow burn, and a very possessive grumpy MMC.
There was alot of cute moments between these two and some great heat-filled dialogue that I loved. I think my favorite part of the journey between them, and every other MC so far, is the learning aspect. Learning each other as different species and cultures, their differences, communication, and the feelings that evolve between them. Seeing them work through this devotion and warmth they feel for each other. The attraction; that only gets stronger 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 of their differences. All of it really makes for amazing some of the sweetest stories that are cute and adorable yet so very hot and spicy. They're the perfect blend.
And the size difference is definitely a big turn on for me. I love when the MMC is so much taller, and built, and of course those intimate moments are just all the more sweeter because of it. There's something overly sexy about a big male and this "little" female together that I can't get enough of!
I am so appreciative to be on the ARC team for Ursa and to get to read these books early because the wait time is always so rough! I just adore the Sea Sand heroes so much. They are some of the most uniquely attractive alien MCs I've ever read. I can't wait until the next one gets here.
🖤 “The only man I’d ever want to be is the man who can be with you.” ~~~ Fiona is so, so awesome! She’s kind, caring and compassionate. And she has such a fun and sunshiny personality and a heart of gold. Even more, I loved her resilience, courage and her feistiness. This tattooed Irish beauty is an incredible woman and I loved her so, so much!
And then… There's Dalk - one of the best warriors from Gahn Fallo’s tribe, the Grumpiest of the Grumps! And this fearsome warrior is not only grumpy, but he’s also dangerous, lethal, strong and very, very, very growly. But there’s another side of Dalk, too! Because he’s also incredibly observant, loyal, honorable, caring and fiercely protective. Dalk is a truly incredible male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Fiona and Dalk! Dalk's been watching Fiona ever since he saved her from the zeelk months ago, and have been wanting her ever since. And during the Deep Sky New Year's Eve party, Fiona kisses him. I adored those two together! I loved their chemistry and their banters and little bits of miscommunication were an absolute delight to read. And the tension!!! Ohhh, so much tension and longing and sometimes doubt (because the Lavrika really, really took her time). I also had so much fun with their inner monologues. Even more, I loved Dalk’s delicious possessiveness and how protective and caring he was of Fiona. And the more I got to learn about him, the more I adored him. And Fiona was the right woman to show the grumpy warrior a brighter side of life. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot and I absolutely couldn’t get enough. Fiona and Dalk were so, so perfect for each other and more than deserved to find happiness and love together. And, yes, I got all teary in the end… It was just so cute and beautiful.
In addition, the storyline was spectacular! We get to spend more time with Gahn Thaleo’s tribe. And participate in a vaklok - a Deep Sky tournament for unmated males, which was so awesome. Even more, I can’t wait to see how Gahn Thaleo’s obsession with a certain human lady will develop. And I’m quite curious about his second in command, too. Also… Oxriel! That guy had me absolutely cackling! I hope there’s a mate meant for him, too. With everything happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, the story is another incredible addition to the series! It’s filled with action, suspense, danger, humor, twists, surprises, drama, blazing hot passion and phenomenal characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it!
There was so much that I loved about this book! First off, I just want to say that reading a new book in this series feels like coming home. They’re always just such comforting reads!
Staring off with Dalk, I loved what a grump he was! He had such a hard, stony exterior but with somewhat softer, mushy feels for Fiona. I loved how he always wanted to do the right thing by her and how he was constantly striving for her approval in things. I especially loved the moments when he would do something and then slyly check to see if she noticed. I really loved how Dalk knew Fiona was special from the very beginning. It just makes me want to go back and reread the first few books! I also loved how special Fiona was to Dalk and how he took everything revolving around her so seriously. From the Valentines Day card to little scratch he needed to "heal", he seriously was just such a loveable character. Fiona on the other hand was just really sweet. I loved how uncertain and new her feelings for Dalk felt at times. It was really sweet to witness their relationship blossom. I also want to add that the spice was off the charts and so well done! While this book was moreso focused on a wholesome romance, the spice that was there was pretty spicy.
Moving onto the side characters, I am 100% convinced that Thaleo, Oxriel, Zoren and Warrek all need a human woman in their life. I think the author said it best in the book; another ship of human women needs to crash land on that planet! I mean, I'd feel bad for those human women, but soo happy for our Sea Sand Warriors. It’s kind of hinted at who Thaleo and Warrek might end up with in future stories, but especially with Oxriel, I really want him to find someone special. He seriously was just a hoot and a half! I loved how he was the sunshine to Dalk’s grumpiness and how Dalk tolerated him. It just cracked me up! I also really loved Dalk's uncle and how wholesome the scene towards the end was. I seriously felt ALL the feels towards the end of this book between the scene with his uncle and then ending. I really was not ready for this book to end!! I want more of Dalk and Fiona's story. Or even like an epilogue! It was just so freaking good!!
Overall, I had so much love for this book! I keep saying with each release that it’s my favorite out of the series. At this point, I think they’re just all my favorite!
I want to thank Ursa Dax for the opportunity to read this ARC! My thoughts and opinions are my own in this review.
Honestly one of the best books in the series. I loved Dalk so much and Fiona wasn't annoying or anything and actually, ACTUALLY showed sympathy and understanding when it came down to how much these women were changing their lives and the severity of the lack of women, etc. It was surprising to see her so compassionate as well and the guilt behind her actions sometimes or she'd down right just feel bad about the situation.
Valeria is the new Chapman and it's getting annoying but I could overlook it because all the characters in this book were fantastic. I loved Oxriel, and Zoren (though you didn't hear much from Zoren), even Warrek (sp?) was interesting during the Vaklok (or whatever that trial thing was called), especially when he was so bold with Tilly.... which basically means only 3 women are left (even though the other two are not officially mated to Thaleo and Warrek yet).
The story itself made me smile and laugh and it was just... good, you know? Very enjoyable that I can even overlook the whole ridiculousness of the New Year's Eve bit where somehow Valeria had cheese and pizza dough on her shuttle which was all kinds of wrong considering they've been on this planet for a while now and it was probably very unlikely that the military would give any kind of perishables to scouting parties, let alone dairy or flour.. though I could possibly understand canned tomatoes it would be highly unlikely considering even in Valerie's book she mentioned the rations she had and none were remotely close to any of those 3 things.. but I get it, it was a one off short story that probably wasn't meant to go anywhere but then this book came from it.
As I said, the above wasn't enough for me to stop my enjoyment of this book and I honestly wish (much like Fiona) that all there were enough ladies to go with all the single men and hopefully, if Ursa doesn't drop the ball when the humans in the ship above eventually do attack, then whatever women are a part of that crew will be enough to fill a good portion of the void.
I will also say that even the last scene with them finally having sex, as lack luster as it was, wasn't enough to ruin this book for me. I honestly didn't care that it was short and kind of blah. Their story as a whole was, and will be a favorite of mine for a long, long time.

So much fun and features our grumpiest hero yet! The beginning are some small time jump short stories from the author's patreon, but it plays well together guiding us to the main plot of this couples story and gives a time period to the couples frenemy relationship.
That is one thing you do not really see much in this series (we see it with one couple andddd I think that's it) where you get pretty much zero on page pre-relationship stuff with future couples in earlier books. Like each book features the main couple and that is it... MAYYBEEE a longing look to make you think hmmm or at the very end we will get guided into the next book and next couple. So having these cute holiday stories added a bit of depth to these two.
A bit strong on the miscommunication and stubbornness, but again I think it was done well and I wasn't upset and yelling at the book. Super fun competition/games element which is a big buzz word for me that I lovvvve in alien romance. And because of that we did get to see a bit of integrations from other aliens but fun interactions that I'm thinking are not going to be end game? Idk I just have a feeling that the author is giving us a red herring for some reason but maybe that is just wishful thinking. I do love the obvious pair ups we are led to long for, but I also love it when the author pulls the rug out from us and gives us a missmatch.
I feel like this had the build up to be one of the favorite pairings of the series, but felt a bit off compared to the others. I think maybe because it was written later than the others, I think the author started on the Stone Sky Gods series and then came back here. Not a bad book at all, still very good and an amazing series. But when comparing apples to apples this actually may be one of the lower ranking ones?! Idk that is like splitting hairs. Love the couple and the banter is delicious, but idk you can just tell this one was written a bit different is all.
Series: Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords #15 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
I’ll be honest, when I started this series a month ago I thought the series was finished. So imagine my surprise when I got to his book and realized, nope this is still an ongoing series. This doesn’t change my enjoyment of the book though.
This book is different from the previous books because the author released the two prequels as patreon bonus scenes and never expected to write the full story of these two. I don’t think the change in format affected my enjoyment of the story, it just clarified why there are two prequel chapters set during Halloween and New Years.
Fiona and Dalk had a very interesting relationship. Dalk is part of the group sent to guard the women at the Deep Sky settlement. He is quiet and grumpy and just isn’t really outgoing like some of the others. Fiona is the tattooed one of the group and is generally sweet and outgoing. Everything starts for them when Fiona gives Dalk a kiss during the New Years Eve party, which makes his feelings for her even stronger.
Like I have said before, I really enjoy the couples who start out without the mate bond first and fall in love. These two had a very cute relationship with Dalk struggling to control his feelings for Fiona and his jealousy whenever she interacted with others. Fiona started out viewing Dalk as a friend but it quickly changed the more she spent time with him and his grumpy demeanor. I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship, even with Fiona putting boundaries between them to try and protect both of them from potential heartache.
Overall, this was another enjoyable couple and I am curious to see who will fall in love next. I am also really wondering if we will ever get to the battle against the humans but I assume that will happen after the last human finds a mate.
Fiona is a tattooed, beautiful and friendly human, and Dalk... Well, he's Dalk.
Dalk doesn't worry too much about his feelings. He feels them, recognizes them and that's that. He's a practical warrior, focused on protecting the new humans (but especially the girl with flowers on her body).
This book is a sweet addition to Warlords of the Sea Sand, with enough suspense, funny moments and hints of their world, culture and the future of the tribes. It almost reads like a human friends to lovers novel. Except he's huge, loves blades and opening people's heads. On top of that, he's an alien with kangaroo legs and doberman ears. Which, of course, makes it all the better.
Gahn Thaleo's special appearance in this book also left me intrigued and a little annoyed with him. Fuck you, I'm not moving once a week just because you want to see the new humans in your tribe. I've done that enough with my divorced parents. No. If you want to see me, you'll have to visit our new colored glass apartment.
I'd love to see more of their dynamic, but I imagine Ursa will post more on her patreon later. I'm excited to see how the story continues with fewer females everywhere, whether in the tribes or the new humans.
Another wonderful addition to the Sea Sand series. I absolutely love anything by Ursa Dax. The quality of writing is so high! She’s created an immersive world in Zaphrinax. Each tribe of warriors is unique yet similar in their desire to have a mate and family. Although the Stone Sky Gods books are great, I find that the Sea Sand warriors hold my heart. I hope this series continues on!
This is Dalk and Fiona’s story. I love how brooding and grumpy Dalk is. He’s very obviously enamored with Fiona but he can’t bring himself to admit it. Fiona has a crush on Dalk but she’s not sure if it’s unrequited. There are a few steamy moments where the characters remain uncertain of the long term consequences of acting out on their mutual attraction.
With some pairings in the Sea Sand universe the Lavrika quickly identifies futures mates. It took the Lavrika a while in Dalk’s case.
I can’t wait for the next Sea Sand book. Will it be Oxriel’s story? Warrek and Tilly?
I am so grateful to have received an advanced reader copy for this book. This did not influence my review- I’m just a sci fi romance fan and Ursa Dax never disappoints.

I absolutely loved diving into this latest installment of my favorite alien romance series! What sets this book apart is its unique structure—it begins with three captivating short stories (previously exclusive to Patreon), setting the stage for the main story, which can only be described as alien Olympics. I'll admit, I wouldn't say I liked Dalk after his rude behavior towards Camille and her cooking. It takes serious skills and hard work to make miso, and Camille poured her heart into recreating flavors from home for the human girls, only to be dismissed from Dalk. I didn't want to fall in love with him, but Dalk's blend of pigheaded honesty mixed with painful levels of insecurity melted my heart. The courtship between Fiona and Dalk was adorable, with Fiona's flirty teasing bringing out Dalk's grumpy yet endearing side. Additionally, delving deeper into Deep Sky traditions and learning more about Ghan Thaleo left me eagerly anticipating his potential book. This book was a delightful addition to the series, offering a perfect blend of romance, drama, and intriguing alien culture.
Fiona and Dalk are the stars of this Sea Sand Warlords book and it was one of my favorite thus far. Most of the books in this series are intense with lots of danger and drama. This one was different because if was filled with misunderstandings and humor with bits of seriousness thrown in. There were times I laughed out loud while reading the banter between the grumpy Dalk and the very sassy Fiona. Out in the mountains with the last of the Sea sky warriors both are trying to broker a new peace between the tribes. But Dalk can't eaten the thought that Films is considered unmated when he knows she belongs to him his already grumpy nature become down right hostile when he thinks of anyone else but him with her. Which leads to some very tense but funny moments. Fiona can believe she so attracted to Mr. Grumpy pants , but she is even when he's being unreasonable she can't help but be attracted to him and somewhere along the line that attraction turns to love. I loved every second of this story and truly enjoyed the humor. Made for a fantastic Saturday night read! Highly recommend🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖
Alien Champion is the fifteenth book in this awesome series and features the story of Fiona and Dalk whose still percolating romance has been fraught with misunderstandings as attested to by their inner monologues, which had me chuckling often with grumpy Dalk’s. Theirs is another well written narrative and was a nice return to the sea sands storyline. I loved how Dalk was so sweetly over protective of Fiona because in his heart he KNOWS she is his mate even though the Lavrika who holds sway over all matters of mate bonding in this world hasn’t come to him yet. This does become an issue for Fiona though later on in the story, which she reveals at a most inconvenient time. But with only a little drama, some action, lots of humor, and a competitive match amongst the Deep Sky clan which Dalk enters and reigns surpreme, even after loosing his loincloth during the last match, this read was a blast! A very happy ending will most assuredly be delivered.
I received a free ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
