This rating has nothing to do with the release issues and everything to do with how the book ended. I was fully engaged and loving the directions she took with the plot and how it was going to wrap up. Then I looked down and saw 80% done. I said, how in the HECK is she going to wrap all this up in 20%, but I was like ok, I’m here for it, I love this series.

My first major issue is there was absolutely no point to Idris. Him being Aisling’s child and usurping the crown turned out to have no significant impact on the plot. There was no final confrontation, he literally wasn’t even mentioned in the epilogue (don’t even get me started on THAT debacle), it was just like, Oh, everything worked out, no need to get into the details or EVEN MENTION WHAT HAPPENED.

My second issue is that while I understand that breaking the curse was the main kind of obstacle of the series, was not the whole point of breaking the curse so that she could finally bond with Bael?!?! THERE WAS NO SCENE OF THEIR BONDING HELLO!?!?!??

And my third and biggest gripe, THERE WAS NO SPICY SCENE WITH ALL THREE OF THE GUYS!?!?!? AND IN THE EPILOGUE JUST WITH BAEL!?!?!?

It just felt like so many plot points were introduced in this book that didn’t end up mattering at fucking all and the end felt completely rushed and unfinished and not well fleshed out. Too much exposition and really anticlimactic. Honestly I’m devastated. I need a wine. 😩

What happened to the ending? It felt really abrupt and glossed over.
Spoilers but where was the bonding scene with Bael? Where was the scene where she was finally with all her bonded mates? How did any of the political strife get fixed? It was so important for her to have all her mate bonds sealed to be able to use her power and then they didn’t have a single scene where she had to use any of that. It just jumps to epilogue happily ever after.
It seemed cut off way too suddenly, why does all that stuff happen off page? It was an enjoyable read up til then and I was surprised it was over.

One thing I love is that this author does recaps of the previous books each time. I need more authors to do this!

This isn’t the BEST series ever, but I have truly loved it. I don’t have a clue about release date drama, that doesn’t influence my rating or review…but The build up to Bael and Ambrose and all of them finally being together has lasted four books….for NOTHING. This was such a rip off. I cannot even imagine what happened to make this ending so incomplete and rushed. What….the….hell….happened here? Where is the rest of EVERYTHING?!?! Why were there multiple typos in the kindle edition. This whole book was just not even in the same category as the first 3, which is really sad for the end of a series

Did I get half a book? It certainly didn’t feel like an ending and as others have mentioned, there are a lot of errors in the kindle version. I’ve liked the other three but this book felt like half a filler.

First off - I LOVE this series. I've re-read it multiple times, but this book - the last in the series - left me disappointed.....[and my review has zero to do with the release day issues]

Spice level was great, plot was - for the most part - great as well. Didn't really see much of the Everlast family, which I was fine with based on how much was going on throughout the book.

Bael: I understand we started with him, so we're going to end with him. But there was no claiming scene??? They literally talked about it for 4 books, and then it was "yes, and"-ed. I was actually shocked and kept thinking I missed something when we hit the "six years later" page. And there was just nothing. And he has a dragon??? Could we not have gotten some buddy-cop scenes with them?

Scion: Finally finds his happiness in becoming a stay-at-home dad. Amazing. No notes.

Ambrose: Love him, but did he really have a point in the end? Lonnie and him claimed each other, dusted themselves off, and that was it. Great that he and Scion don't hate each other anymore, but that relationship isn't really what I'm here for. He just followed them around, reminding everyone he was Lonnie's mate too, but hardly anything came from it.

Idris: So in the end, the point of him was to prove Lonnie would be a just ruler? Didn't we already know this? His antics did push Lonnie towards the last hunt, but surely someone/something else could have accomplished this. This realization also left me convinced I missed something, but nope.

And lastly, once we hit the very last chapter, I thought we were finally going to get the last *group* scene (that Ambrose also hinted to, need I remind you), and *CRICKETS*. What??? Why write a why-choose books with THREE mates and then not write this scene??????

Again, I keep thinking I've missed something in this book, so I will read it again. But I have a funny feeling I won't be getting the closure I need.

What the fuck was that ending??!! So many loose ends never tied up. Important characters that turned out to be pointless. And more importantly, we get robbed of a Bael bonding chapter?! Absolutely the fuck not!!! HE IS THE BEST ONE!

If y'all think the ending of Game of Thrones Season 8 was disappointing... try this series.🙄 10x more upsetting! What a fucking waste of my time. 😡 It feels like the author just got bored of writing this series and decided to half-ass it.

Wow, I actually am so disheartened with the book community's reaction to this release. God forbid we give the author a little grace. I understand how disappointing it could be when you're anticipating a release but seriously? A little patience goes a long way. The author was aware of the problem almost immediately and had no idea what happened. There was probably an error in uploading the file or something but she didn't do it on purpose by any means. She reuploaded the file right away but it's out of her control how fast it gets reviewed and approved. I saw on her socials that she did this within hours of its release as she was already getting bombarded with emails and messages. Of course, the process usually takes a few hours but 12 hours later and it still wasn't accepted. Again, not the authors fault at all. She can't do anything but wait either. I can only hope that this doesn't deter her from continuing to write and release books. Anyways, I totally understand being disappointed but the entitlement some readers showed through this ordeal is honestly astonishing. I hope we can do better in the future if anything like this happens to *any* author.

That was such a let down in so many ways. The amount of typos, objects changing from one thing to another in the same paragraph, the absurd amount of loose, unexplained ends?! I loved this series up until book 4 but it feels beyond rushed and entirely unfinished.

Like.. where is Idris? What happened to him? There’s no way he just quietly walked away.

We just don’t see Ambrose at the end except for him asleep? That’s so unsatisfying.

Not getting to read Bael’s claiming is total crap.

Not even getting a moment with them all together at the end despite being in the same place? Wack.

Not getting a moment of them all watching the kids together? Lame.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been more unhinged in my upset over a book before.

Not to mention if you read it in e-book, the whole last hour is just an excerpt from another book so watch out for the abrupt and unexpected ending.

Disappointing last book. Sloppy plotwise and the book was seriously missing tying up the loose ends the story has. No real relationship development with Ambrose and a villian thrown in at the last minute and then not resolved.

Now that all the technical issues were resolved, I was able to read the entire final book, and I really loved it. It had a plot twist I didn't expect, and even the ending surprised me, but it really suits the whole storyline and it definitely a happy ending for them.

I especially loved how the dynamic between the characters evolved throughout the story, particularly between the brothers, Ambrose and Scion. It's sad that the series has come to an end, but the entire storyline is one of my favorites, and I’m definitely going to reread it. I'm also looking forward to the audiobook version of the last two books since I started listening to the audiobooks and was pleasantly surprised to find that my favorite narrator, Stewart Crank, was narrating the male POVs.

I feel sorry for Kate King because of what happened, and I don’t blame her since it also caused her distress. It seemed like the issue was an error from Amazon Kindle, so the 'hate' she received for it was unnecessary since it could happen to any other author too.

{reads reviews saying that it felt like they got half a book}

Surely not, right? Right‽

Where the hell is the rest of it? What's the fuck was that future time skip with no god damn resolution to the conflict that brewed in the first half of the book? So Idris is defeated off page, after talking about getting the power to do so?

You skip befriending a dragon‽ Quill's Quillness isn't explained, is he just a crow, an old one, something else? Bael doesn't get his mating locked in on the page, but the other two do? What the hell did I just read‽

I am so incredibly annoyed, it feels like I read a half cocked novella and not the final book in a series. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

☹️ Spoilers ahead

The disappointment is real. First of all this was complete mierda. I had such high expectations for the last book and now I'm left disappointed. The ending was rushed, it didn't make much sense to me at all. They went on this quest to put together the crown the majority of the book just for the crown to be gone when she went inside the source?! And then Idris takeover was completely forgotten? So what they had their two and a half kids and they live happily ever after ?! 💩

Overall, I really enjoyed this entire series. I do feel a bit let down with how it ended, however. That there were still some threads left untied. Some critical moments that were missing. It ended abruptly.

We do get Lonnie and her mates’ HEA.

so… what the fck happened here? this book was a MESS and it’s really disappointing considering how amazing the previous ones were.

i feel like the author had a deadline and just published sloppy work. a crap ton of grammatical and formatting errors, unexplained plots and MAJOR things that were just never addressed again (like hello, how can you introduce a villain in the third book and then not solve the problems they caused or have a big fight - anything, really! - before finishing the series? villain just literally disappears and isn’t even mentioned in the epilogue)

sloppy work and just bad.

edit: apparently some technical issues happened on day of the release and that’s why a lot of reviews are very kind… i feel for the author truly and no one deserves to get threatened over a book but the quality compared to the previous books is still very poor and i know she can do better so..

This book was everything I thought it would be. I absolutely can’t get enough of Scion, Bael, Lonnie and Ambrose. There connection can’t be denied. Finally Lonnie realized what she had to do to break the curse and at what cost. I love the twists and finally Lonnie with all her mates and the ending I thought was perfect. Another amazing read and I will definitely miss these characters.

This series is absolutely one of my top reads of the year! It gave me many of the same feelings as The Bonds That Tie by J Bree and Folk of the Air by Holly Black, two of my favorite series ever. And the ending was perfect.

Lonnie finally got some long overdue answers, well deserved time with her hot AF mates, and their much needed HEA. There were some plot points that I still questioned, but nothing that detracted heavily from the story. I *did* wish that we got to see Bael finally claim Lonnie, and I desperately wanted some more group scenes.

Really, that's my only complaint, I loved it so much I still wish there was more! I honestly can't get enough of Bael and Scion. I did love Ambrose, too, just not on the same level. Scion specifically has a special place in my heart next to Nox, Gryphon, and Cardan. I know I will be rereading the series over and over again to spend more time with these beloved characters.

The author saw the opportunity, and we know she saw it because she alluded to it, but then just didn't write the scene. "What scene" you ask? The scene that you would expect to see in a book with this particular trope, when there are three "individuals in a certain kind of group" and the female human body is what it is.

But also the plot just like felt completely dialed in for the second half of the book. Felt wildly rushed and unfinished. Definitely lowest ranked of the series.

I really enjoyed the first three books, they weren’t perfect but they were entertaining. This book was a little slow for me but overall ok. The ending felt out of place - like it was all this very slow buildup and then boom epilogue.

this book had some editing issues where there were quotes at the end of a random piece that was not dialogue or copy pasted the same sentence of plot from one page to the next. the end of this series is happy so i like that but it felt rushed

ugh 😑

I’m so disappointed in how this book ended! First off we seriously don’t get to seee Lonnie and Beal mating after all this time! Then the ending seemed like it would be epic but it just stopped that made no sense! It was like Kate King just got bored of the series so gave up on any creativity. I was so excited to see the conclusion but now it’s just a flop of an ending .

I enjoyed this series but…

Spoilers***

Okay so I really did love this series, I have zero complaints about the first three books. However, I have no idea what happened in the last 20 percent of this book. It felt like we were hitting the peak of the book and it just ends. To me there were a lot of loose ends. There is no way they should have just let the villain free, they mentioned how he persuaded everyone who lived there to do as he said. Idk but to me personally that’s a pretty unforgivable thing to do. Especially if they’re all just constantly stuck doing his bidding. Second. How is Bayle going to be her longest ongoing relationship and we don’t get their mating scene???? The last twenty percent of the book went by wayyyy too fast. Everything felt rushed which is incredibly unfortunate since I felt like everything else was paced wonderfully! I however don’t like giving authors bad reviews and I did really enjoy the rest of the books. I’d rate it a 3.5 rounded up

This book was… bad. Just I enjoyed the first few in the series and went “oh how will she wrap up these plot lines?” She doesn’t.

SPOILERS:
-her mother was secretly alive for two scenes to just be hateful then die without real explanation for her death, like she just existed for exposition
-they FORGOT there were supposed to be four MMCs, like the books are advertised this way, and gwydian is in the book two description. Where is he?? Oh off somewhere else, and IN THE EPILOGUE revealed to be married to the person he was being forced to marry for the curse even though the curse was now broken?
-what about all the rest of the everlasts?
-what was the point of having the throne usurpered? By a character JUST introduced? They never….. do anything about that, explicitly decide to NOT do anything about it, then in the epilogue she’s just queen again.

Honestly it’s like the author had random bullet points sticky notes, she shuffled them around, turned them into sentences and said “look, a book!”

I really didn’t want to be part of the group of people that were disappointed in this book, but, unfortunately, I am. The first 75% of the book I enjoyed, the last 25% felt rushed, and incomplete. I really am very disappointed, I love this series, and now it’s over and it just doesn’t quite feel finished. Not to mention the six year skip ahead. I’m still glad I finished the series. I just wish there was maybe one more book.

Also, I’m very disappointed all dragon scenes were so short and vague or skipped.

I need answers. Like, urgently. Desperately. Immediately.

Poor Ambrose… okay, let’s be honest, the chemistry between Lonnie and him is strong enough to create a nuclear bomb. But he’s clearly struggling, because he can’t see her future at all. Our supposedly omnipotent seer is… well… kind of miserable. He’s trying to keep his distance from her, partly because of that and partly because Scion is being Scion. Hurt, angry, defensive, turning pain into pure hatred. So now we have a mess. A big one.

No one actually knows that Ambrose is one of Lonnie’s mates yet. Sometimes I’m not even sure Ambrose himself fully knows. And the thing that keeps nagging at me is this: why does he seem so certain he’s going to die?

And then… Lonnie’s mother.

Fuck.
She’s the worst kind of bitch.

But also… interesting.

Her mother made a bargain to save Lonnie’s life. With Asling, a goddess. In exchange, she had to help Asling’s heir. And yeah… I think I know who that heir is. I don’t trust him. I don’t even know if he knows who he really is. But one thing is clear: that man is ancient.

Ambrose and Scion, though? Absolute children. Bickering, snapping, fighting over everything. Lonnie is exhausted, acting like a tired mother trying to stop her kids from killing each other, while Bael is just there, amused, like a dad who secretly finds it funny.

Cinema. Absolute cinema.

I cannot wait to see Scion’s face when he finds out Ambrose is also one of Lonnie’s mates. Bael will accept it. Of course he will. He’s the sweetheart. He’s the anchor. If Lonnie needs another mate, he’ll put her happiness first without hesitation. But Scion? Oh, Scion is going to have opinions. Loud, sharp, snarky opinions.

I’m starting to worry about Bael.

Something is wrong. The unfulfilled bond with Lonnie, how deeply he loves her… it feels like it’s starting to wake the curse. The headaches aren’t normal. His constant absence isn’t normal either. Yes, he’s half Unseelie lion, and cats sleep a lot, but this? This is too much. Lonnie feels it too, but there’s so much chaos happening that it’s hard to focus on just one fear.

Something terrible is coming. I feel it in my bones.

This Idris guy? No. Just no. He’s too calm. Too happy. Too normal for someone who spent seven hundred years in a dungeon. He should be unhinged. Broken. Not… this. What even is his magic? And why doesn’t Ambrose find him suspicious? Is it because he can’t see the future near Lonnie, so everyone is basically blind?

Well. Shit hit the fan. And it was ugly.

Lonnie should have listened to her intuition. Everything felt off, and it turns out… it was.

At first, I thought Bael’s headaches were because of the unbalanced bond. Mates share magic, right? But Bael never took Lonnie’s blood, meaning only she could access his magic. I thought that imbalance was draining him.

I was wrong.

It’s the curse.

Fuck.

Bael is too good for this world. Too kind. Too loving. And he can’t stop himself from being happy with Lonnie and Scion… and that happiness is killing him. Literally. Not just him either, but everyone around him.

Ambrose, in the least empathetic way possible, basically told him to get the fuck away before he dies and takes everyone with him. And wow. If I thought Scion was rude, Ambrose is a brutally insensitive asshole. Bael is the only genuinely sweet one among them.

Lonnie will be lost without Bael. He’s the one who holds her hand. Grounds her. Centers her when everything is falling apart.

Sometimes I needed Ambrose’s pragmatism, or Scion’s strength. At the moment, I needed Bael’s flexibility.

They balance each other perfectly. That’s what makes this hurt so much.

And then.

I realize.

The series isn’t finished.

I cannot believe it.

I refuse to believe it.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???

WHY.
WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME.

This book destroyed me emotionally. The bonds, the imbalance, the curse, the love that’s literally lethal… it’s all beautifully tragic. Bael’s goodness feels like a liability in a world that punishes happiness, Ambrose’s certainty about his own death is terrifying, and Lonnie is standing in the middle of it all, about to lose the one person who keeps her whole.

And the worst part?

It’s not over.

I am devastated. I am angry. I am deeply invested.

And apparently, I am now stuck waiting.
