When my summer vacation is unexpectedly cut short, I have no choice but to return to the Cape Cod beach house where I’ve spent all of my summers. What I’m not expecting is for my bedroom to be taken over by Crew Burke, a college baseball player my family is hosting for the summer.
Crew may be a superstar on and off the field, but his charm is wasted on me. He thinks not giving up my room will push my buttons, but he has another thing coming. There’s nothing in this world that I hate more than baseball players, especially the ones who think they’re God’s gift to women. So, while other girls can be Crew’s one-night stand, I’ll never be with a baseball player. I despise them.
J. Nathan is the author of new adult romances with cocky heroes and sassy heroines. When she's not writing, she's a crazy baseball mom who loves iced coffee, country music, and guys in backward hats.
Read if you like: Enemies-to-lovers, sports romance, witty banter, summer settings.

📲 QOTD: What's your favorite enemies-to-lovers book or movie?👇
I am OBSESSED with Crew but also head over heels for Peyton!
The Trouble With Players is told from Peyton’s POV and though I would’ve loved Crew’s POV J Nathan did such a good job telling the story that I could still feel his emotions and intensity.
This book had a crazy twist I didn’t see coming and my gosh I found myself pleading along with Peyton hoping things would go the way she wanted. The emotions in this novel were so related and palpable. With each page I felt myself falling deeper and deeper in with these two that I finished in one sitting.
I love Crew’s intensity and that he could match Peyton’s energy. He challenged her and didn’t let her get away with the sassy attitude.
Perfect summer read and a reminder why baseball romances are some of my fave!
I think the plot is very addictive and I found myself reading it non stop. However, the third act breakup...
I really hate talking bad things about any book that I read but the true is that I did not enjoy the "plot-twist", the solution of it and personally how both MCs dealt with it.
It's a really fast-paced book and a funny read if you're in the mood so read it if you're curious. It doesn't worked for me but I really hope that works for some of you!
Oh my gosh... this story had some really unexpected twists and turns that had me hooked, shocked, and emotional!
The Trouble with Players is a New Adult romance set in Cape Cod. Peyton is our 21 year old heroine who was supposed to spend her summer traveling in Europe. She had to unexpectedly come back to where her family would spend summers and found a strange boy in her room.
Peyton reminded me in the beginning of the Taming of the Shrew or 10 Things I Hate About You. To be honest, I didn't really like her in the beginning, but as the story unfolded and I learnt more, I totally got all her anger.
Crew is the boy who has taken over her bedroom. He is an amazing baseball player with a bright future. He's in Cape Cod to be coached by Peyton's father, a retired MLB player. Crew is a bit of a player but genuinely seems like a nice guy. He needles Peyton to try to get her attention, but he can't quite figure it out.
As I mentioned, I wasn't a huge fan of Peyton, but I definitely wanted to know why the anger and what was motivating her. The story was well written and I really did want to know more, so I kept reading. I am so glad I did. There were some shocking twists. I mean, I TOTALLY didn't see those twists coming at all. I couldn't imagine how the author would wrap up this story with the twists. But GEEZ, she did a fabulous job!
Overall, it was a fast, fun, and a bit emotional beach read. Told just from Peyton's PoV, it had some spice and lots of feels. I highly recommend reading!!!
This story had me smiling through out the whole thing. When Peyton returns home for the summer she’s in for a surprise. That surprise is no other than Crew (aka the baseball player). She doesn’t hide the fact that she hates baseball with a passion. She tells him every chance she gets. Then finally she gradually lets her guard down and lets him in a little. You see these moments and see their connection with one another. He is there when she needs him. And Crew shows her that she can trust him. Then when you least suspect it life gives a you a curveball. Let’s just say the ending definitely worth it. This story had so much hurt, laughs, friendships and love. I truly enjoyed this story so much.
4.25 STARS This is an engaging read with great banter, spicy tension and likable characters. I love forced proximity and the characters took that to epic levels in their battle of the wills. They start out as enemies, the chemistry is immediately obvious, though. It’s a fun story as well as emotional, I enjoyed the way the characters slowly developed into something more than enemies. Their chemistry is deliciously hot. Banter is my favorite thing and this book absolutely delivers it. The secondary characters are great and add depth and fun to the story. Towards the end there’s quite a twist I absolutely did not see coming, I was shocked! I couldn’t see how this would work out for Crew and Peyton. It’s quite a wild twist that had me feeling some big emotions. I love the way it plays out, I’m quite happy with the ending. I really enjoyed this, it’s a perfect beach/summer read.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
‘The trouble with player’ is a new adult story that takes place in the small beach town of Cape Cod. A place where 21 year old Peyton Richmon spent many happy summers, until last year, when a secret came to light that tore her family apart. It broke her heart and took away her happy feelings about Cape Cod. That’s why, for the first time in many years, Peyton decides to spend her summer vacation not in Cape Cod but in Europe, but unfortunately her friend dumps her in Europe for a boy and so Peyton returns to her family’s beach house in Cape Cod to spend the rest of the summer there. To her surprise, she finds a strange boy in her bedroom with a girl and only her father in the house. No one told her that her mother is staying somewhere else and that her family is hosting a baseball player this year! This makes Peyton very angry for several reasons. Unfortunately, she has little choice but to spend the rest of her summer there.
Crew Burke is a 21 year old, talented college baseball player. He’s in Cape Cod for the Cape League, where talented college baseball players spend their summer vacation here playing baseball and staying with host families. He’s confident , charming and talented. He’s popular with the local girls but Peyton doesn’t like him. She hates baseball players, she has her own personal reasons for her dislike of players. But living under the same roof makes it hard for her to ignore Crew and the more they talk, the better they get to know each other and connect. Crew has his own little ways of getting Peyton to notice him inside the house or out. Soon the chemistry between them is hard to resist. But new secrets from the past surface and once again they will hurt not only Peyton’s heart but others as well. Will Peyton flee again from Cape Cod or not?
I was really looking forward to this story. Not just because it’s a new story from the author J. Nathan! But also because after so many weeks and months of rain, I was really in the mood for a summer holiday story, one that took place in a beautiful beach town with sunny weather, summer parties, handsome baseball players and love. ‘The trouble with players’ was a good story, it had a few things I suspected and a few things I didn’t see coming (I love that!).There were some emotional scenes in it but nothing too dark. If you have enjoyed this author’s previous stories, you will enjoy this story too.
The story was told from Peyton’s POV and I liked that, but in this story there were some emotional scenes where I would have also liked to know Crew’s feelings and thoughts, especially in regarding his mother.
Peyton was a little hard to understand at first, but the more I learned about her past, the better I understood her and her attitude towards baseball players and her father. She had been deeply hurt by someone she trusted and loved. She hid a very sensitive heart. Crew was a good guy who enjoyed his popularity with the girls but once he made up his mind about Peyton, he went all out. She was it for him. They were good together.
I loved Peyton’s friend Gina, she was a loyal and good friend. It was lovely to see her fall for Cody, another baseball player.
‘The trouble with the players’ is a good summer reading.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and I really enjoyed it. Between the banter, the push and pull, and the shocking twist that I just didn't see coming, this book flew by in no time. I read it all in one sitting and didn't want to put it down. I just kept wanting more, though, if that makes sense. Like I felt as though the book needed more. Maybe more spice, maybe more of a connection from Peyton with Crew. I really needed and wished for Crew's POV, but it wasn't in the book. I just wished it had something more to it.
Tropes: - Baseball Romance - Roommates (for the summer) - He Falls First - One Bed - Forced Proximity - Only Her POV
Peyton comes home to her father's beach house after leaving her European backpacking trip early. All she wants is her bed and the view of the beach from her room. What Peyton got was a strange guy screwing a woman on her bedroom balcony. She flips out, quite literally.
The last person Peyton wants to be around is her father. Then she finds out her mother is AL. The state where Peyton goes to college. Oddly her and Crew go to the same University, in the same year. Her father then informs her that he is hosting a baseball player for the summer, and he gave Crew her room because she wasn't supposed to be there. If there's one person Peyton can't stand, it's a baseball player. They can't be trusted. Peyton voices just as much to Crew about this.
One thing Peyton isn't giving up is her bedroom. Even if he own father told her to take the guest room. It ends up being a challenge to see who will leave the room first. Crew and Peyton both sleep in the same bed at night, but don't touch. Even when Peyton is the first to move to the guest room, Crew still come in at night to sleep beside her because he got used to her being beside him at night.
Peyton had seen Crew in action and knows it's a different girl every night. As soon as he tries to set his game on her, she shuts it down. Peyton did act like a child at certain times in this book. Especially when she throws a tantrum. One example is she thinks there's a bet going on with the team and blame Crew. They are at the gala and he's yelling her there is no bet and just trying to talk to her. She throws a drink in his face, for really no reason. She did act like those things Crew said, but he didn't say it in a mean way. I don't think there is a man bone in his body.
Crew works on breaking her walls down though. When he notices her having panic attacks, he seems to be the only person to calm her down.
It didn't really take all that long before they hooked up. He's promising more than a night and she thinks it's just to get out of her system. Crew wiggles his way into her heart, whether she wanted to admit it or not. He did up for her when needed. Peyton has some serious trust issues though. All steming from her father, and for good reasons. Just her outlook on all baseball players is skewed.
Peyton's next-door neighbor and best friend, Gina, starts seeing a player on Crew's team. Gina will beg and drag Peyton to the games, to bars where the team will be and to the gala. I really wished we could have gotten Crew's POV through this book. He's a man of little words. He's great at his sport though.
Just when things start going great with them and she she fully trust him and their relationship, he disappears. Doesn't show up for his important game where scouts are. He doesn't return her text or calls. He just totally ghost her. When she figures out why, it will leave you for a full blown shock. I totally didn't see that one coming at all. It will leave you going WTF?
This is simply AMAZING!!! The Trouble with Players is definitely one of my new top favorites. I LOVE this book from the get-go. The first few pages straight away piqued my interest. I love how Crew and Peyton had initially crossed their paths and especially enjoyed their personal banters. I was so excited waiting for the next series of events to unfold, anticipating what intriguing words and comments would come out of Peyton's mouth.
I know she can be blunt sometimes, but it came from a deeply-rooted hurt she kept inside. Nevertheless, Peyton is still one of my favorite heroines. She is feisty, strong, and full of candor. She's thoughtful, loving, and someone you'd want to be friends with forever.
Oh, and let's talk about Crew. He's undoubtedly an easy addition to my extensive list of favorite book boyfriends. I know this is such a cliche being always madly in love with the hero. With Crew, however, I was endeared and captivated right from their first encounter. I felt their intensity and fascination toward each other. I got charmed in ways I've always dreamed of. It kept me hooked till the wee hours of the morning and bathroom breaks became a luxury I couldn't even afford to take.
I just LOVED the banter. It was delightfully entertaining. A smile was eternally plastered on my face. My daughter even thought I was crazy beaming and grinning all by myself.
I LOVED the plot. It was something fresh and unpredictable. And talking about the twist in the story...Oh my gosh!!!! I didn't see it coming. It sent shockwaves running through my spine. Incredible! Not to mention the progression of the story till the revelation part. Sob...sob...! (Yes, tissues are needed please.)
I felt Peyton's heart aching like it was my heart breaking. Why does this have to happen to Peyton now that she started to trust and open her heart to Crew? It was truly a devastating experience. But alas, my heart was overjoyed and celebrated with them when they realized that the happy ending they thought they had lost was now within their reach.
I LOVED the secondary characters. Gina, Cody, and Sam were as amazing and lovable as Crew and Peyton. Here's hoping they'll soon have their own romantic stories to tell. I truly believe Jen would agree with my wishful thinking.
I always look forward to Jen's next book because even though they are about sports romance, she always comes up with a plot that is unique and distinct from the others. Jen's creative juices are flowing like a river and I'm just a fortunate fish who happens to gobble up and stream through the consequent entertainment flow every single time, and perhaps, in the years to come...

•Crew & Peyton
*I received an eARC of this book from the author an their promotion team
Crew Burke is just a year away from getting drafted and fulfilling his dream of playing in the MLB. He’s spending the summer before his senior year playing in a prestigious summer league in Cape Cod. His team is killing it in the league and he’s staying in a baseball legend’s beach front mansion so as far as summers go, Crew’s having a stellar one…until, his host’s daughter returns from Europe early and finds Crew with a “friend” enjoying extracurricular activities on her bedroom balcony. 🙈
Peyton Richmond is scorned. She left her European vacation early after getting ditched by her best friends. With no where else to go, she returns to her family’s vacation home in Cape Cod. She swore she’d never return to the place that ruined her family just 1 year ago. Baseball has taken so much from her life already so when she finds Crew and his “conquest” on her balcony, her opinion on all baseball players being unfaithful playboys is 100% confirmed. From that moment forward, she vows to avoid them at all cost.
When it’s clear Crew won’t be leaving any time soon, Peyton resigns to the fact that they’re stuck living together, and she’ll tolerate it, but it doesn’t mean she’ll change her option on baseball players. However, Crew’s been enchanted by Peyton since the moment he laid eyes on her and he’s determined to win her over by the end of the summer. As the summer goes on, these two find each other closer than Peyton would like, and slowly Crew is breaking down her walls. She finds that he makes her laugh and instead of running as fast as he can when he witnesses her panic attacks, he stays right by her side knowing all the right things to say and do. Inevitably, these two fall together and the chemistry is absolutely explosive! 😍🔥
I’ve been a long time fan of @jnathanauthor for some years and I was so grateful to received an ARC of this book! Overall, this was perfect short, summery, enemies to lovers story I needed to read on vacation! It was sweet, spicy, and that third act twist left me absolutely speechless! 😱

First of all, anything that J. Nathan writes, I will read! I love this author! She spends so much time on crafting her characters and making them relatable to her readers. This was no different!
Marty Richmond, Peyton's father, is a retired famous baseball player who is hosting a baseball player (Crew Burke) at their summer house in Cape Cod. Peyton comes home unexpectedly after her mishap of a trip that happened in Europe. She wants to go back to the beach, but when she realizes that she has to spend the summer with her father, and a baseball player, she hates it. All baseball players are trouble according to her. She just wants to pack her bags and head to Alabama, where her mother and grandma live.
Peyton and Crew start out hating each other early on in the book, especially since Crew is staying in Peyton's room. There is a lot of banter between the two characters, and eventually they grow closer, and realize that they actually get along quite well.
There are so many secrets that get refilled in this book! I was gasping like a fish out of water at the end of the book. It kept me sitting at the edge of the bed because I had to keep turning the pages to find out what's going to happen next.
I loved everything about this sweet, summer baseball romance! I can't wait to see what's next for J. Nathan!
The Trouble With Players was a deliciously addictive read that had me finishing the entire story in one sitting. Crew and Peyton captured my attention from the very first page and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see how their story developed. I loved every minute of their push and pull relationship.
Peyton was a complicated character. To begin with, she was combative and so very angry after events that had transpired the previous summer. She had her walls up so high, it didn’t seem possible that anyone could breach them, but Crew slowly won her over with his beautiful words and his dogged persistence. He helped her start to heal before a cruel twist threatened to destroy everything they had built.
I absolutely loved the snarky, flirty banter between Crew and Peyton. Their chemistry was fire and I loved how Crew helped Peyton feel safe. Their relationship was full of sparks and each minute was explosive. That twist at the end took me by surprise and my heart was broken for these two, but that angsty twist just added to the emotional journey these two traveled. The Trouble With Players was such a fun, fast-paced and moving read and I was absolutely hooked from the minute I picked it up.
Oh, the ANGER. My blood is still trying to reduce to a simmer. Peyton has good reason to be a tad prickly. And a whole lot angry. And betrayed. And I wasn’t sure that I could even attempt to like Crew, but then he proved that he’s more than just what he appears to be. He’s deeper. He’s far more loyal and trustworthy than I’d expect. But he might also be the one person Peyton truly can’t have. And that just might break them both.
I despised Peyton’s dad. D E S P I S E D him. He’s awful. And that’s kinder than the selfish manchild deserves, honestly. He is a vile person and is determined to pretend that he’s the center of the universe, but he’s clearly not expecting all of his horridness to be revealed to those who once believed him to be a good man. I only wish that he had more of a takedown coming his way, but maybe being relegated to a tiny footnote of zero consequence is the perfect way to deal with him.
You’ll wonder what’s wrong with Peyton at first, then you get to know her. And Crew. And the truth will have you reeling. But it’ll all be okay. I swear it. And then you’ll probably feel the same way I do about a guy who surely didn’t deserve to have such goodness around him, but who will definitely regret squandering it all for selfish pursuits and stupidity.
It's been a little over a year since J. Nathan's last release, but now she's back with her latest new adult standalone, and it's an enemies-to-lovers summer romance packed with slow burn feels, loads of tension, and a doozy of a twist. There are meet-cutes, and then there's the first time Peyton Richmond and Crew Burke meet in The Trouble with Players. Both are twenty-one-year-old college students who are spending their summer in Cape Cod. Oh, and they're laying claim to the same bedroom in the same beach house. Technically, the house belongs to Peyton's family, and you'd think she'd be able to go there whenever she wanted to. Of course, her father letting some hotshot college baseball player use her room over the summer was something she hadn't considered before she showed up announced. They immediately clash, then push each other's buttons. Avoiding one another's presence is far easier said than done, what more the spark between them. Peyton swore she'd never fall for a baseball player; the problem is that Crew isn't just any baseball player, and falling for him could lead to heartbreak she'll never come back from.
J. Nathan isn't a prolific author, but I'm certainly not complaining because I'll take quality over quantity any day. With her newest novel, she delivers the new adult romance that she's known for, but boy, oh boy, did it exceed my lofty expectations. I won't deny it--Nathan's writing is something that has consistently clicked with me (knock on wood), so reading whatever her latest book may be is a no-brainer. Peyton and Crew's story could have followed a well-worn path, but Nathan took it down a different road, with a twist here and a turn there, making for a read that had me firmly lounged in my bed for the two hours it took me to finish it. I relished the slow burn, tension-filled journey these main characters were on, and the side story regarding Peyton's fractured relationship with her father was intriguing and then some. This author makes her books worth waiting for, and the latest proof is plainly seen with The Trouble with Players. Five stars.
At first I thought this was going to be your typical enemies-to-lovers romance ... but I was so wrong. I loved Payten's sass. She said exactly what was on her mind and stuck to her decisions. And Crew is a hot hunk who you would think was arrogant, but really was self assured. I found the banter and situations to be very realistic. The story is told from Peyton's POV and I would have loved to know what was going on in Crew's mind at times. The chemistry between Peyton and Crew was undeniable and hot! There are twists that left my jaw on the floor. A great read that shouldn't be missed.
Peyton is still trying to recover from a devasting family secret she learned about last summer. When her travel aboard gets cut short, she goes to her family's summer home on Cape Cod. The last thing she expected to see was a naked guy in her spae with a naked girl. Her father informs her that because she was supposed to be abroad all summer, her father decided to host a baseball player from the Cape Cod summer league. Peyton hates baseball players and she'll do anything to get this guy out of her room ... and life.
I received an early copy courtesy of Grey's Promotion.
Seppy's 5-Star Review: Peyton's father is a retired famous baseball player and when she returns to the summer house in Cape Cod she discovers he is hosting a baseball player (Crew Burke) and sleeping in her room. She didn't want to return after what happened last summer but after a mishap, while in Europe she returned and now she has to not only share the house with her father but now this baseball player and all baseball players are trouble. She wants to go to the beach and avoid her father and the Crew. It would be even better if she could just pack her bags and head to Alabama, where her mother and grandma live but that isn't going to happen.
Peyton and Crew don't get off to a great start and Peyton tries to avoid him which seems impossible. These two have great love/hate banter. Peyton is very closed off because of what she discovered last summer. Crew tries to be there for Peyton and she isn't open to it because she doesn't trust men, especially baseball players. Can Crew get through Peton's protective layer? I loved reading this one. There wasn't a dull moment with this story there were several secrets that were uncovered that had me a bit blindsided with the direction of the story. I read this one cover to cover and enjoyed every moment of it. One-click today!
I had to grab this book to read because apparently, I am in my baseball player reading era right now. This hit in all the right places that made me enjoy watching Crew prove to Peyton that he really did see just her, while she continued to throw shade at him because of the sport he played. Now here’s the thing, she has a reason to be leery of baseball players, her dad was one and she learned so much about him in the last year that made her want to keep her distance. But there is something between these two and they both know that the chemistry is off the charts if only they give in, which they do. There is no slowing them down once they find out that the other is the person they have been waiting for. That is until things get flipped on their side. I love how Peyton doesn’t hold anything back. She has so much anger and fire behind her and Crew just happens to keep getting in the line of it all. He quickly realizes that Peyton is worth the risk and as she opens up, we see that she feels safe with him when she knows she shouldn’t. Crew though, he is just great at picking apart the armor Peyton has around herself. He carries a lot of weight on his shoulders but his goal is in sight and nothing is going to stop him from achieving it.
I hadn’t read this author in some time and had forgotten how great and entertaining her books are! It was such a treat to read this enemies to lovers story, even more because it involves YA and sports romance. I loved reading this book!
Peyton is still hurting over her father’s betrayal, so she went backpacking to Europe for the summer before her senior year in Alabama State University. She came back to Cape Cod because she needed the beach, to find that her father is hosting a player in the Cape baseball squad and gave him her room. Because of her dad’s sins, she hates all baseball players, especially Crew.
She’s so full of hate and snark, and I had a great time reading her and the zingers she sent Crew’s way. It takes a very self-assured guy to take all her barbs and be amused instead of irritated. The banter, the snark, the chemistry, all made for such a fun read. Of course, it all ends with them together! While Peyton is snarky, Crew is cute, sending her his home-run balls with the little leaguers, the balls with messages, getting her to share time with him, getting into her bed just to annoy her.
Now that I re-discovered this author, I’ll be sure to catch all future releases!
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a standalone summer romance/sports romance from the POV of Peyton entirely. She is a college student on her summer break, and she has some big issues related to her family and especially her father. He is a cheater, and she feels that her and her mother deserve better than that. She tends to get panic attacks and she is back at the summer home, and he is staying there too and so let's say it's very complicated.
On top of that there is a baseball player named Crew who is staying there and was given her room. So these two start off as adversaries as they both want to stay in her room. They were both cute in their one upmanship and as they start getting to know each other and caring I really enjoyed watching them fall in love.
And then there is a plot TWIST. Its big and ugly I kind of hated it. But in all honesty, I saw it coming a mile away. But I was also glad the author did not drag it out. I really didn't think it was needed, but it did make some big drama into this story.
Title: The Trouble with Players Author: J. Nathan Hero/Heroine: Crew & Peyton What to Expect: Enemies to Lovers, Baseball Player, Forced Proximity, Grumpy x Sunshine,

✨the good ✨
This was a fast paced and angsty read with two characters who couldn’t be any more different. Cocky baseball player Crew found the one girl who was immune to his charms… and almost maimed him with a deck chair. Peyton was a complex character, quick with the snarky one liners and refusing to trust anyone. Some may find her hard to relate to but I just found her very real and relatable. Crew was also a great MMC, very sweet and patient when it came to getting behind Peyton’s defences.
✨ the bad ✨
Peyton’s Dad. This bloke did absolutely bugger all to redeem himself.
Thank you to the author and @greyspromo for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.
✨overall thoughts: fast paced and angsty ✨ 3rd act break up: yes ✨ heat level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ✨ star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
I guess I didn't pay attention to what this story was about, only the author, lol. Because, I usually don't read romance with characters who are younger than my kids! But, it worked and I really enjoyed it. I loved Peyton's mouthy, angry personality when we first meet her. She's got her reasons to be that way and frankly, let's celebrate the women who don't keep stuff bottled up. Crew looks like your typical player...not just baseball...but he grew on me bit by bit until I (mostly) forgot his first impression on me. I think I would have liked a little more of his life before the summer played out a bit. Their relationship moved pretty quickly, but they're on a summer timeline, so it makes sense. Or I'm already hooked, so I'm just going with it. Having spend summers on the Cape, I'm familiar with the summer league, so that was a nice bit of nostalgia, watching games on warm nights. I did see a twist or two coming, but nothing that took me out of the storyline. Except for Peyton's dad, I liked the secondary characters. It was a really good, summertime read.
When your dream summer has already been cut short and it was nothing you imagined it would be, walking in on some stranger and their one night stand is not what you want to see. You already despise your father, and your mother is no where to be found. Your last summer in Cape Cod was tainted with loosing trust for the person you looked up to most. When you're formally introduced to the baseball "player" staying in your room, you meet Crew, who your family is hosting for the Cape Cod summer baseball league. But the fact that your father has given him your room and expects you to stay in the guest bedroom has you on edge and ready to play hard. The act of enemies is clear but deep down you know that you feel some pull to the "player". They both connect on a different level after the banter is put aside. Unfortunately, the bomb has been sent in full force when they get news that will throw everything into chaos. Crew plays horribly with this on his mind, and Peyton is torn.
Love this new one by J. Nathan! Crew is the player in the title and when we first meet him he most definitely appears to be one and not just baseball. Peyton immediately dislikes him but you know how that goes with that thin line and all. Peyton is definitely jaded due to her father’s indiscretions and what is on the surface when she first meets Crew hits too close to home. I love the banter between Crew and Peyton as well as their interactions in the hate phase, but not as much as I love them during the heading towards love phase. They are so awesome together! And fun!! All seems to be going so well until the universe threatens to collapse what they have been building. Had me worried that there would be no happy ending. I honestly love when a writer does that! Great characters and story, with a wonderful epilogue!
So much angst and emotion between Peyton and Crew!
Peyton Richmond hadn’t planned to return to her family’s Cape Cod beach house after everything that happened last summer. Her plans changed after her backpacking trip around Europe was cut short but she never expected to find a guy in her bedroom. Problem was Crew Burke the star of the Cape League and her father Marty Richmond was hosting him at their beach house and Peyton dislikes baseball players for many reasons.
There is so much angst and emotion between Peyton and Crew with a scene that will give whiplash when you read it but it worth all the feels. So you need to put The Trouble with Players at the top of your list to read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and Grey's Promotions. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Baseball and summer go hand and hand and the Cape Cod Baseball League is the place to play for any college baseball player. In “The Trouble with Players” our star player and hero, Crew Burke, was handsome, cocky and a natural athlete whose dream was to make it to the big leagues. He attracted a bevy of beautiful women that summer as they cheered for him at the games in hopes he would give them a minute of his time. The only woman who wasn’t falling for him was Peyton Richmond, the daughter of his host family. Peyton hated Crew from the moment she found him in a compromising situation with one of his groupies. She definitely didn’t want to deal with a guy like that this summer. It was bad enough she was back at her beach house with her father who had unexpectedly offered Crew her bedroom!! What else could possibly happen to ruin her quiet time on the Cape?
I love Peyton because she doesn’t take any lip from anyone and even though Crew tried to be friends with her, she shut him down as fast as she could. Crew was relentless, though, in his pursuit of Peyton because when he sets his mind on something, he goes after it, and never gives up. I can see why Peyton found it hard to resist Crew’s charm, but she definitely made him work to get on her good side. He wasn’t who she wanted but he became the man she couldn’t live without. He understood her, listened to her and took care of her when all seemed lost. I love their witty banter, their playful nights at home and their desire to reach for the stars. Another reason I love this book so much is because I felt like I was on the Cape with Drew and Peyton. I could hear the crack of the bat when he hit a homerun, I could feel the summer breezes coming off the ocean and I saw the sunsets after a memorable day at the beach. I read to escape and a few weeks on Cape Cod with Drew and Peyton was just what I needed!
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
Peyton vacation to Europe is cut short in Amsterdam when her friend finds a guy and abandons her. She is forced to return to her family’s beach house in Cape Cod. She is shocked to find Crew Burke, a college baseball star in her room with some girl. She talks to her father and he is not budging, insisting that she shouldn’t be here and that Crew is a guest. Peyton is a feisty and fierce woman and she absolutely despises baseball players. Crew is an arrogant and cocky player on and off the field. He slowly and deliberately crumbles her walls and she starts to trust him. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers, baseball romance then you’re going to love it.
The Trouble With Players by J. Nathan is an enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity sports romance (with a twist). It's told strictly from the FMC's POV, and it's a really quick read, so I was able to finish it in one sitting. This author does an excellent job of telling her stories, and they're all so realistic, which I love.
Crew and Peyton had crazy chemistry, even though they didn't like each other at first. They spent so much time together, that eventually they both started having feelings for one another. Their relationship progressed so naturally, and I loved seeing them together. I could feel Peyton's emotions, and those are the books I love the most. This one is highly recommended with more than five stars!
Peyton is feisty, and after she is abandoned by her friend in Europe, she has no choice but to head for her family’s Cape Cod home, and she is not happy when she finds Crew in her bedroom. Crew is sweet and charming, and he is a college baseball player, whom Peyton’s dad is hosting for the summer. Peyton is not interested in baseball player, but will Crew be able to knock down the walls around her heart? This is a well written story which is easy to read, with family, friendships, emotions, trust, undeniable chemistry, twists, animosity, passion, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining and spicy page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
