Tropes: one bed, jealousy, court intrigue, MMC with attitude Thank you to the author for this ARC, and this doesn’t influence my review. I did not like this book as much as the other two, I feel like the plot significantly changed and the court intrigue from the first book was completely forgotten. I understand the build-up of the plot, but not so much that it feels worlds away when it’s just a trilogy. Additionally, the slow-burn was too slow. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend to read the series. The first two books had my heart
3.5 stars rounded up to 4. One of the main things that kept me going through the series was Astrid and Castiel’s relationship. I just love the way she protects him and he basically follows her around like a puppy 😆 I especially loved Castiel’s sass and the way he was just DONE with everything.
But I have to say, it felt like some things were happening just to advance the story, like Valerius getting tricked by the gang at the end, even though the plan was kinda…I don’t wanna say stupid, but with how clever he supposedly is, he shouldn’t have fallen for that.
Disappointed in this conclusion. Compared to books 1 and 2 it was quite boring and I love a slow burn but when we've waited 3 books there needs to be some sort of romantic climax (no pun intended).
This was such a fun series. I couldn’t stop reading. The world building was effortless, the character building was just enough, I loved seeing the heroine have such strong beliefs and boundaries and not swooning for the bad boys. There wasn’t really any spice - but it was a fun ride. 10/10
Satisfying conclusion with great action scenes and character development. It's a pretty short book for the last part in a trilogy in my opinion. Nevertheless it wraps up the story rather nicely, while leaving room for spinoff stories. The action scenes are great, the search/quest is also interesting. The only downside is that too much is left for the last 30 pages. It almost feels like some things are handled with too much ease. But it's not like certain parts feel rushed. The writing style is very fluent, like in the other books. Astrid and Castiel once again proved to be an amazing duo.
I'm grateful to the author for the opportunity to advance-read this title. My review is not influenced by the fact that I received an ARC copy.
The final entry to The Asteria Chronicles trilogy picks up exactly where we finished in A Curse of Sun and Moon, and our trio have entered the Other Realm. As has been Winters' style in this series, most of the story is told from the perspective of the MFC, Astrid, as a stream-of-consciousness narrative which includes the twists and turns of her thoughts.
The book is fast-paced, and I found myself at 25% without realizing. The trio have encountered several of the denizens of the Other Realm, and we've learned more about Astrid and especially Castiel's enigmatic sidekick, Rowan. After more self-discovery on Astrid's part, the quest begins, and the pace increases. It's here that our band encounters and befriends my favorite side-character (Nymph!), and emerge with that which they were seeking.
From here - things turn bad. And then get worse. and worse. The pace doesn't slow until we reach the conclusion. There are still many things to unravel, and satisifyingly, many pieces and parts from the trilogy come to a conclusion - including the final moments of this slowest of slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers tale that reveal the HEA that's been a long time coming.
5 stars because of the plot twists, surprises, pace changes that fit the story and interesting narrative delivery. I can't even imagine all the spin-off possibilities that exist should the author return to this world. A great read.
I received a copy of this book directly from Aubrey Winters.
As the final book in the trilogy, I was interested to see how the story would get resolved and how Astrid and Castiel to finally come together as a couple. The book delivers on both of those things. It is definitely my favourite of the three books, I even teared up just a bit towards the end. There are so many poignant moments between Castiel and Astrid where Castiel shows Astrid more of his true self and how much he loves her. He is truly her ride or die, he would follow her anywhere. They’re opposites in terms of skills but those skills complement each other. When it comes down to core values and beliefs they show each other time and again that they’re on the same page, even if they don’t always have the same approach.
I like that the rivalry between Castiel and Ryken isn’t because he’s jealous of Ryken or worried that Astrid will choose Ryken over him (that does come up but it’s not the core of their issue). We know that Castiel has been prone to that in the past, he admitted as much in the second book. But here his issues with Ryekn are about the kind of Fare Ryken is, whether or not he can be trusted, and the things he has done. You do sometimes question if Astrid is being too nice for her own good, but her compassion is what will make her a great queen.
The finale with Valerius does feel a bit rushed in terms of pacing, but as with the first two books that comes down to how short they are. These books could easily be twice as long and still be great books. I stand by my statement that this trilogy is comparable to The Folk of The Air series but with more sympathetic MCs. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re into adventures where gender roles get sort of subverted and the enemies become lovers.
I love me a Canadian author, and I love finding more Canadian fantasy authors! So I'm really glad to have this series and I can't wait to dive into Aubrey's Shadow World series.
It’s the final battle, the last chance to save the courts and rescue the captured fae from an eternal prison. Astrid and Castiel have survived more than they thought possible, but their enemy has his sights set on total conquest. The bloodbath left behind is of no concern to him as Astrid and Castiel soon see to their horror. As if that’s not bad enough, the path to defeat Valerius holds its own dangers. It’s a place that calls to those that journey through it, coaxing them to forget themselves and become lost in its realm, until they are hopelessly trapped as well. Yet Astrid and Castiel must find a way to win this front, and they plunge in as they have always done, while somehow still managing the unforgettable banter that we’ve come to love about them. Although Astrid’s fighting abilities prove invaluable with the perils facing them, Castiel is far from the weak link. He’s a protector in all senses of the word. He anchors her, reminds her of where she belongs, shelters her from the voices that try to claim her, and saves her from careening off her own inner edge. In essence, he heals her a little at time in countless ways beyond the physical. And Astrid realizes that: “This gentle touch tells me I am precious. It tells me I am worthy. It feels as though he’s piecing together the shattered pieces of my soul so I can rebuild everything about myself that I feel I’ve lost.” For Astrid, this has been the hardest battlefield, the ugliest part of the path. It’s been that personal prison that keeps trying to lay hold of her. Because there are no blades fashioned that can defeat this enemy, like Valerius or the scary creatures lurking in the dark forest that they encounter. It takes a different arsenal to quiet this battlefield for good. Thankfully Castiel understands that and keeps his heartfelt vow to Astrid: “I will be as close to your side as you allow. I will not waver. I will not stray. Right here is where I belong-as close as you permit.” It’s a beautiful, fitting end for Astrid’s and Castiel’s journey and the beginning of a new one that promises better than they ever imagined together.
I received this book from the author as an ARC copy. It’s the third and final book of the Asteria Chronicles. I anxiously anticipated receiving this book, as I enjoyed the first two. This one picks up exactly where the second one left off, in the middle of the action. I didn’t like this one as much as the first two. While it does wrap up the series satisfactorily, I felt it went off on a different tangent for far too much of the story.
The book opens with Astrid and Castiel finding themselves in the Other Realm. They’re confused that there’s a whole world there because they’ve been warned lingering in the Realm means certain death. As they begin to explore, they find an entire population living there. Astrid and Castiel tell the leaders of their predicament with Valerius and they are sent on a quest to find a magic book.
Most of the story is taken up by searching for the book and traversing the dangers of finding the book. I hoped for more action between the Dark Fae, Astrid, and Castiel. I feel like the interactions we get are more of an afterthought and less the main conflict.
I enjoyed the series overall, but I’m disappointed with the last book. The elements I loved about the first two were not there and it seemed like I was reading a book from a different series. That being said, this book did wrap up the story, just not in a way I found satisfying. If you enjoyed the first two, give this one a read.
The third book in this series comes to a satisfying conclusion. Astrid is trying to save the Lunar Court and save the whole of Asteria from Valerius.
I enjoyed the action scenes in this book, as with the first two. The author does a really good job of writing interesting action that is easy enough to keep track of. One thing that I struggled with this series, which is probably just a personal preference, is the continuous switching to inner monologue. It took me out of the plot and action at some points. Despite this however I do enjoy the banter between the characters and following the relationship of Castiel and Astrid. Maybe a bit too slow of a burn for my tastes.
I was really compelled to find out what happens with Astrid and the Lunar Court, and I’m satisfied with the happy ending that leaves room for a spinoff. Some parts of the book I found were rushed, especially near the end, but then there were other parts I would have loved to hear more about. I want to know more about what actually happened to the Lunar Court before they were lost. Definitely some instances of telling more than showing.
Thank you to the author for provided me with an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. I’d definitely recommend you check out this series!
Thank you to the author for providing me with this arc. The following review represents my honest opinion.
This is an epic conclusion to a fantastic trilogy. I absolutely loved all the action and battle scenes. The character development is wonderfully done and these are some of the best characters and most consistent characters that I’ve read across a trilogy in a while. It’s hard to leave without giving any spoilers, especially for the last of a series, but I will say I did absolutely love the ending. Everything wrapped up such a beautiful way but I feel like we still do have some potential for more in this world which I really hope we get because I just love these characters and I love the world, but Winters wrote about.
From the first page, the action hits the ground running and stays pretty consistent throughout the book. I actually enjoyed how much Astrid and Castiel to work/fight well together as their trust continues to grow in one another on their journey. I also really liked seeing the character growth in so many of the characters--especially Castiel. The romance is tentative and sweet, and left with room to grow. And it was a nice surprise to see enemies turn into tentative friends. Overall, it was a good ending to the series. The plot holes/storylines were tied up nicely, and while I wish there was a bit more on Castiel and Astrid as they manage their courts and their romance at the end, it was still a fairly satisfying ending.
Another one and just as perfect. This book is the third book in the series and damn It was amazing, just like the first two. Astrid finally had her own court and became a deserving queen. But the journey of it all kept me hooked. The fights as usual were my favorite and the magic that followed. It was an amazing journey of Astrid where it just started by helping Castiel get his court back but it became so much more. The secrets and the truths she found made her more aware of her reality. She finally found the answers she didn't know she was looking for. I know this was the last book of the series but am I wrong in wanting more? It's like not wanting this book to end. But the important point is that it's a beautiful Fantasy book that I would like to recommend to all.
As the final book in the trilogy, I was excited to see how things would wrap up—especially with Astrid and Castiel finally coming together. The story delivers a satisfying HEA, though some parts, particularly the ending, felt a bit rushed.
Castiel really shines in this one, showing how deeply he loves Astrid. He’s her ride or die, and while they have different strengths, they complement each other well. At their core, they share the same values, even if they don’t always take the same path.
The villain’s resolution felt a little fast-paced, likely due to the book’s shorter length—something that’s been consistent throughout the series. Still, it was an enjoyable read, and the ending leaves room for potential spin-offs, which I'd be excited to see.
Just like before, we pick up right where the previous book left off. Astrid and Castiel are on their quest to defeat Valerius and (hopefully) save the Lunar fae.
While I generally feel like this was a fast read, I did feel that I could have done with less walking and Astrid thinking about all that's happening. There was a lot of ruminating in the first 1/3 of the book. Because then, when the action was hitting, if felt like it all went so fast.
I did enjoy this and appreciated that the romance (more slow simmer than burn) was treated in a way that made sense for their past and current quest. It was very sweet in their growing fondness. It felt right for these characters.
Overall, I enjoyed the journey and would recommend for someone wanting a quick fantasy series, or for someone looking for a YA romantasy that's sweet, not spice. 🌙🌙🌙🌙/5
[I received a free eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]
I would really love to see this trilogy printed as an omnibus. All 3 are short enough and it would read so well all at once! I was lucky enough to be provided ARC's for all three books and I really enjoyed them all. I found the story to have wrapped up very well! I know some readers might not have liked the very slow burn but I'm a big fan. It was done excellently. We see real growth in their relationship. Lots of action in this final book as there was in the first two. I do feel that some elements were changed for this third offering but it didn't change the way I feel about the trilogy overall. I'm happy I got to read it and my daughter also loved the series.
Such an enjoyable fast-paced romantasy series. I loved following along with Astrid and Castiel and their slow burn romance. Obvioisly special shoutout to Rowan too. Shadow fur baby.
I could have read a whole book alone based on the Other Realm and The Forest of the Dead. I freaking ate all of that up.
I actually really did dig the open ending as well. I would be happy with more, but also confident to leave the things unsaid with the characters. Tied up so nicely.

Very happy with the third book in this series! More world building, more character development, the advancement of a little romance (but which one????). Aubrey does a good job keeping me guessing who will be friend or foe, help or hinder, and really masters that morally grey concept. I also love that the FMC is the protector and the MMC is the healer, and she’s passionate about protecting him too Highly recommend this series. Ending is satisfying, but i do still hope there’s another book in the series. I’m so hooked into this world!
A great conclusion to the trilogy. I enjoyed reading Astrid wrap up her journey. The characters were fun to read and I really appreciated the witty banter between Astrid and Castiel. I wished that it answered more of my questions and I was left bereft of tying up lose ends. I wanted a little more from the characters and some solid answers. Otherwise, it was a great simple read and it satisfied my wish for entertainment. The romance was light and not the main plot, and there could have been more. Cute story!
This was such a great adventure. I love Astrid and Castiel together. He questioned everything with sass but my heart swooned every time he told her he’s got her. Astrid is still a bad ass, literally kicking butt through out the entire story. I felt the capture of Valerius was rushed and didn’t feel like the power move I was expecting. I did however enjoy the new side characters we meet in this, especially the Nymph. Although I still have some questions I am glad for them to receive their happy ending.
A fabulous conclusion to the trilogy. Saving the Lunar fae is all that Astrid wants, and she'll do whatever she must to reach her goal - even trusting in those who have previously hurt her. With the help of Castiel, Rowan, and new friends along the journey - Astrid puts her faith in others to help fight a common enemy - Valerius, in an effort to put wrongs to right. The challenges are many, and perilous, but through heartbreak and near-death experiences comes triumph and new friendships.
This story was one I felt instantly drawn to the characters. Astrid found herself in the middle of a situation she knew nothing about, with a man who she grew up despising, only to be taken by another man who she despised.
This book wraps up the tale so nicely, but also leaves the storyline open for another book if the author so chooses.
Thank you Aubrey for allowing me to be part of your team.
The third book in this trilogy is so good. I couldn't put it down and frankly think it might be the best of the three. Castiel and Astrid--ugh I just love them. Intense scenes, lots of adventures, battling evil, and love blossoming between the two MCs--I thoroughly enjoyed this journey. Now. I'm just secretly hoping a 4th book is in the works because I'm not ready to leave Asteria just yet.
The third book in this trilogy did not disappoint. It was easily as good if not better than the first two. Astrid and Castiel is a team to be reckoned with. I love how much their characters grew in this book and the new world building made me feel a part of the story. I definitely recommend this trilogy to readers of all ages.
I really enjoyed this book and the way it ended the series. My favorite part of this book was getting to see Castiel show more of his sarcasm and banter. I feel it really gave you insight into his life and who he had become around Astrid. Their personal character development was great but even better together! Such a good series!
A fitting ending to this trilogy. Wasn’t my favorite but wasn’t all that either. A very middle of the road book if you will. Not much in the way or romance which is fine. I skimmed some of it and I feel like this could have been better as a duology. Some parts dragged on while it seemed to end rather quickly. Overall it was alright.
All three is the Asteria Chronicle books are so good. You have to give them a chance. I am so sad to see this series end but so excited to read Aubrey’s other books.
I loved this series, and I hope Aubrey continues it. I want to know what the Sarraze siblings were so afraid of and I want Ryken to get a happy ending I love him 😩 I know she says it's completed but I feel like there's so much more she can do with this series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this final installment in the trilogy. It was a well written. The pacing was well done. I never felt like it was dragging or rushing. The ending was perfect. Castiel and Astrid continued to be easy characters to root for. Castiel's sarcastic wit was charming! A few new characters were introduced that were intriguing as well. Of course, I want to learn more about the Sarraze siblings (Ryken and Euphelia)
