James graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy with a US Naval Reserve commission. He spent three years at sea as a Merchant Marine deck officer. After his sea time with visits to 45 countries, he swallowed the anchor and earned an MBA in Finance from the University of Illinois.

David 'Possum' Porter is ex-CIA and now contracts to them for 'black-ops' work they need to be able to deny. He also has an alien, whom he calls 'Clyde,' in his head. It is, of course, possible that it's not really an alien but just a mental condition but Clyde does appear to give him some advantages like being able to tap mobile phones, access the internet and have a photographic memory so maybe 'he' is real.
Another quirk is that Possum has a form of narcolepsy in that he falls asleep immediately after combat action.
He's probably the worst action hero ever; everywhere he goes, his enemy is one step ahead and every time he turns up to a gunfight he's unarmed.
This is not implying that The Nightdreams Cabal is a bad book ... far from it. It's complex, multifaceted and well-written. Clyde's constant interruptions and asides are, at times, bordering on the hilarious.
All-in-all a very original idea, well-implemented.
I'm waiting for the film!

This is my comfort zone and Porter is a great character with interesting quirks, the narcolepsy works well and he's not the perfect hero but the good ones never are. I like original and this one is that for me. Would transfer well to the movie world. As for the book we'll it gets a five and my compliments to the author.
