Septimus must battle the remnants of the Dark Domaine, which will remain until the power of the evil Two-Faced Ring is destroyed forever. To accomplish that, the ancient Alchemie Fyre must be relit -- a task that sends Septimus to the very origins of Magyk and Physik, testing both his skills, and his loyalties to ExtraOrdinary Wizard, Marcia Overstrand, and Alchemist Marcellus Pye.

Edit:
IT'S OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT WAS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit:
HEY HEY, GUESS WHAT WAS IN THE BOOKSTORE A DAY EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, gotta take this one sloooooowly...

Edit:
So I guess I should explain my long history with this book.

I was about eight years old when my best friend gave me a copy of Magyk for my birthday (at least, I think it was for my birthday. Some of the details are a bit fuzzy). At the time I was deep in my 'no-one-must-die-in-books-ever' phase that had led me to drop Harry Potter as my favorite series (I was a pouty child, I know).

I loved Magyk. I loved Flyte too. The first Septimus Heap book I had to wait for was Physik, which my parents gave me in my Easter basket the year it came out. (Mom and Dad, I love you. You are the best.)

My grandma took me to the bookstore when Queste came out. I was eating chocolate at her house later and got a little smudge on one page. It's still there.

It was mostly the same with Syren. After I finished it, I lent it to my best friend, who had gotten me into this seiries in the first place.

These were the years in which my favorite series were Sep Heap and Charlie Bone. Waiting for them to come out was what made me a little bit wonky from a young age.

While I waited for Darke, I read the entire series aloud to my little brother. He hated reading, but he loved the humor of the series, and fell in love with many of the characters, especially Spit Fyre and Marcia. (He now reads books to himself - I am currently making him read the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series, which he also loves).

Darke came out, a few days before my birthday. Thanks to the time gap between books five and six, for a few short days I was once again younger then the characters. I went to the bookstore the day it came out, but they didn't have it yet. I was nearly in tears, but my mom ordered it for me online and I got it a day later. I read it at the pool, completely ignoring my friends, some of whom were giving me weird looks because of the huge grin that seemed permanently plastered on my face.

And now the last book comes out in two months. Never again will I be younger then Sep and Jenna, but I'm still young enough to enjoy the series. (At least I'm not older then Beetle yet. There's time.)

I can no longer say that this book is my absolute favorite series (that honor must go to Percy Jackson and the Infernal Devices), these books will always have a very special place in my heart. They've been with me for nearly half my life, and were the first books I truly obsessed over. I have so many little memories that are connected with them.

I can honestly say that these books are my childhood. And I have to admit, even though I await this installment with bated breath, I'll be very sad to see them end.

After I finished Fyre, I put on some sad song on my laptop and started to cry.
I am really going to miss them all, my Castle friends.

The upside is that this won’t be the last time I’ll see them. Not Septimus at least. I’m going to make sure to get TodHunter Moon immediately after it comes out.
Because this book was just not satisfying.

Oh no, don’t get me wrong, I loved it. But, as a finale, it didn’t have enough, I don’t know, bang to it. I think maybe Darke did better as the most climatic book in the series. Fyre to me just served as a chance to wrap up all loose ends and say a last farewell to the characters.
Those farewells were awfully quick, though, because the fact is that Angie Sage populated her series with so many characters that hardly any of them could get enough time to do much on stage before they are rushed off to make room for the next. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I got to see Stanley again, and Jim Knee as well, whom I was afraid would spend the whole book hibernating like he did in Darke. And I most definitely did not expect to see Merrin again – a – surprisingly – rather pleasant surprise.

But you know, I didn’t mind all that much that each of the recurring characters got like maybe five or ten minutes each to have their final say. I was severely disappointed about Syrah – couldn’t we have at least got to see her reunion with Julius? I don’t think she even got any lines in the book. I mean I realize that her real importance in the series was in Syren, but still, don’t we owe her that much?

I also wasn’t much pleased with the way Jenna’s mother turned out – I never much liked Jenna, or mostly just thought of her as an argumentative and unhappy person sometimes, but I hate to think what she would’ve turned out to be like if she had been raised by her real mother.
Mm, oh well, I guess I did pretty much get what I wanted. I guess my issue was just with the delivery. Like I said, I expected it to be a bit more climatic, being the last book and all, but Darke takes that prize, and Physik and Queste remain tied as my favorite books in the series. One thing I did like about this book though was how it kept taking me back to previous Septimus Heap books, particularly Magyk, and those long-ago days in the old room behind The Big Red Door in the Ramblings, and hanging out with Nicko, Jenna, and Boy 412 in Keeper’s Cottage. There’s something about this series, in fact, that mirrors my own life, with Magyk feeling like something out of my childhood, (although I only first read it six years ago… okay that actually sounds a lot longer ago when you say it out loud), and Fyre reminding me of growing up, graduating (like I did this year – class of 2013!), and being reunited with friends and family for the last time before everyone goes their separate ways and life goes on.
It’s no wonder I felt like crying.

Sighhhhh… Why do books have to end?

Favorite Septimus Heap Moments:
Magyk:
-Preparing the Sheild Bugs with Marcia.
-DeFrosting the Hunter and 'refreshing' his memory. So funny!
-The Apprentice tells Jenna, Nicko, Aunt Zelda and Boy 412 that he is Septimus Heap
-Scrying in the duck pond and finding out Boy 412 is Septimus. Touching moment.
Flyte:
-Getting lost in the forest and being rescued by Benjamin
-Camp Heap: meet Sam, Edd, Erik, and Jo-Jo!
-The Summer Circle, with the Witch Mother warning Nicko and Septimus not to 'go to the circus'. Lol.
-Boy 409 and Boy 412 reunite.
-Holing up in the Doll House. Creepy.
-Trapped in the Port Witch Coven house. Creepier.
-Spit Fyre hatches!
Physik:
-Beetle helps Jenna figure out how to find Septimus. Ever the helpful friend, Beetle.
-After Spit Fyre lands on Snorri's boat. Poor Snorri.
-Searching for the Glass of Time in Drago Mills warehouse
-Septimus is dogged by Hugo Tenderfoot. Cute little boy!
-Esmeralda’s Diary
-Jenna goes through the Queen's Way and meets Broda Pye and her doppleganger ancester, Esmeralda!
-Jenna, mistaken for Esmeralda, is forced to attend her 'mother's' feast, looks up to thank the servant boy who has just spooned sauce into her duckling-free bowl, and sees that it is Septimus. Wonderful moment.
-Everything from the feast until they go back through the Glass of Time.
-Septimus cures Beetle.
Queste:
-Merrin applies for the Scribe's job while Beetle is in charge. Hilarious!
-Marcia finds out Septimus has been visiting Marcellus. And then goes to visit Marcellus.
-Meeting Ephaniah Grebe.
-Camp Heap again. I really like Sam too.
-Jenna owns Beetle and Septimus by pulling the door of the Hut open. Lol lol lol.
-Septimus meets Hotep-Ra.
-Finding Nicko in the House of Foryx.
-Catchpole and the writing on the door. That man's a riot.
-Marcia, Spit Fyre and Sarah meet everyone outside the House of Foryx.
Syren:
-Septimus sends a letter by Pigeon Post. Lol lol lol.
-The performance on the deck of the Cerys. Way to go Spit Fyre!
-Barney tries to give Septimus his SafeCharm. Cute little kid!
-Merrin mugs Barney Pot. Poor Barney!
-Merrin meets Jim Knee. Lol, lol, LOL!!
-Wolf Boy has to feed Lucy Gringe to the Grim. Yeah. Not gonna happen. You don't mess with Lucy Gringe.
-Septimus meets Syrah Syara.
-Septimus escapes the Syren.
-The Book of Syrah Syren. Creepy. Sad.
-Aunt Zelda makes Merrin apologize to Barney on an onlooker-filled street. Ha ha.
-The whole affair with trying to stop the army of Jinn. Humorously crazy.
-Syrah discovers she is over 500 years old. And faints.
-Returning home. Everyone's okay.
Darke:
-Beetle and Jenna go out on a date! Yeah, that is what it is.
-The Boomerang Charm takes Beetle back to the Manuscriptorium. He he he.
-Gothyk Grotto, Igor, Matt and Marcus.
-The Cordon
-Simon makes a choice between saving his mother or risking the lives of the inhabitants of the castle
-Sarah forces Septimus and Simon to get along.
-The cute ghost girl in the Darke Halls.
-Dragon Battle!
-Rescuing Beetle from the Hermetic Chamber.
-Foxy tells Beetle he is the new Chief Hermetic Scribe.
-Simon and Septimus finally call it quits
Fyre:
-Lucy and Simon’s Wedding – Finally!
-Beetle and Marcia confront Marcellus about the puddles and he cleverly gets away with it, with a smug smile on his face. Couldn’t hold back laughter.
-Returning to Keeper’s Cottage and Aunt Zelda telling us that the Marsh Python – who my sister has for some reason sorely missed since the first book – ate the third Triple bowl
-Septimus tells Wolf Boy he is a triplet. And that his name is Mandy. Hahahaha!
-Marcellus helps Jenna revive the Dragon Boat. So sweet, actually, how Marcellus is Jenna’s several-times great uncle – I never thought about that.
-Jenna’s Welcome Back party for Septimus, with all our favorite teenagers invited. This scene should’ve been longer.
-Milo saves Jenna from Morwenna. Also very sweet. He’s not such a bad dad, really.
-Best part ever : Simon, Septimus, Alther, and (yay!) Jim Knee go to collect Merrin Merredith. Merrin opens the door to find himself face-to-face (he believes) with DomDaniel. And Nurse Merredith gets to show those Port Witch Coven witches up in their faces. Yes!
-The Port Palace
-Flying back to the House of Foryx
-Traveling in the Purple Tube to get back to the Castle, with the Ice Tunnels melting all around the place
-Septimus Heap meets Septimus Heap at the House of Foryx. Prepare to get a bit teary-eyed.

Goodbye Septimus! Domo arigatou! Thankee-sai!

FML! Drove to the second nearest bookshop today (because the nearest one doesn't have anything of interest) and I did find Fyre there - but it was the new Bloomsbury version with a picture of Septimus riding Spit Fyre on the cover! It's not that I have anything against the new covers (they look kind of cool, actually), except that they don't really look like Septimus Heap - more like a dark-toned version of them. Plus, these new editions don't have Mark Zug's amazing illustrations in them. And all my previous books are the original versions, the ones meant to look like books in the series with charms on the covers. So, yes, I left the bookshop without buying it. It's shallow and a little OCD of me, but I don't entirely regret it (much). I'm going to scour the rest of the bookstores in the city (although the one I checked is the one that gets new books earliest) until I find the fiery red edition with the Pyramid Charm on the cover and Jenna's crown on the back.
Here's hoping I get more luck tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

***

Fffft. Still haven't found it. I officially hate Borders. They don't update their stock of books until someone asks about them, and then only very gradually. I remember when I was still looking for The Dark Tower books I found one Stephen King book in the entire store. The most popular author in America (okay, so this isn't the US, but still) who wrote over fifty books gets only one book in Borders. True, now there's significantly more of them, but ones I've read already and, again, only after I asked.
I asked about Fyre twice now and both times the Help Desk lady would just brush me off saying they didn't order them. Without checking the computer even. Sheesh. I bet everyone else on Goodreads has read it by now, and made reviews. And now that exam week is coming up even if I did find it I'd have to force myself not to read it until I finished studying.

WOOOOOOOOOOTTTTT!!!! FOUND IT!! THE RIGHT COVER AND EVERYTHING! FINALLY! I'M SO HAPPYYYYYYY!!!

** An advanced copy was provided by Katherine Tegen Books via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.**

Fyre is the long-awaited 7th and final installment of the Septimus Heap Series . I got into this series randomly back in 2011 after being attracted to the cover of book 1 - Magyk at the book store. Of course it was labeled as one of those books to read 'after Harry Potter' and I may or may not have been fresh off of yet another HP re-read. The cover caught my eye but then the synopsis was what really reeled me in and after finishing the first book I quickly went out & picked up the rest of the series. Book 1 had been published in 2005 so I was able to read the first 6 books pretty much back to back and since then I've been both eager and anxious to see how author Angie Sage would wrap up Septimus Heap's tale. It's hard not to get nostalgic when you've been with a story & characters for so long and in that respect, Fyre delivers. It's a nice trip down memory lane, linking up with moments, characters & plot points from all the previous books. Unfortunately, for me the rest of it sort of fell flat.

**The format of this review is a bit weird since this is the 7th and last book in a series, I don't want to be spoiler-y so I won't go into the plot or fine details too too much.**

I've had my ups and downs with this series...obviously with more ups than downs (otherwise I'd have quit such a long running series ages ago). The 6th installment in the series- Darke was easily my favorite out of the entire series. In fact, I remember feeling that Darke more or less an ideal ending for the series. It felt like the series had been building up to what went down in Darke. That got me a bit worried, because: where was Fyre going to take us?? That uncertainty so far along in a series was new to me. I was open to having it blow me away completely and end the series with a bang. BUT, I was uneasy too you know because I felt like the big twists I'd felt the series was lining up to...had already come to pass.

So what's the verdict? Well,it's really a mixed bag. While I was impressed by Angie Sage's ability to tie in elements of all the previous books, giving it a nostalgic feel while refreshing the reader's memory for important details they may have forgotten. Memorable moments were revisited but always with a fresh twist. I enjoyed the presence of all the beloved secondary characters (Simon, Hotep-Ra, Marcellus, Julius Pike...) and seeing how they've all grown since the beginning. I though the inclusion of Alchemy and especially the 'Fyre' was compelling and inventive - definitely a highlight for me and I would have loved to get even more details. The magical system is still easy to understand and to get into but also vast and inventive. The writing style had it's usual funny, airy and endearing quality. The characters are very easy to care for, and despite their large numbers, they're quirky enough to be separate and memorable in their own right. They're all so offbeat; even a little weird but I think that's one of the best parts. Angie Sage's sense of humor always shines through in her stories. And the numerous POV's (which I'd complained about in past books of this series) seemed to really work for me this time and I found the switches added to the tension & intrigue.
...
But...
...
Yeah there's a but, or buts even. I was disappointed by how the MC Septimus Heap seemed to take a back seat in his own story. It seemed like it was all about Jenna, Marcellus & Marcia. In their defense, I loved getting to know both Marcellus and certainly Marcia more. Jenna, not so much. I used to really like Jenna but as the series went on, I found myself liking her less and less. In Fyre her presence was constant, more to than even Septimus - which was a bummer. The main danger or 'evil' was another aspect that didn't really work for me. While it did a good job of tying into the evil of the ring that we've know about all along, how it developed from there felt like out of the blue. And on a more personal note, some details in this series have always felt a bit too...familiar for me; names, details, items...and Fyre unfortunately had a few offenses as well. I won't get into it here because it's not something that would bother everyone the same way it does me. Like I said it's a personal thing, I'm totally anal like that. >.<

Fire also felt really long to me too, clocking in at 720 pages it's the longest one in the series so far. The previous installement was 640 pages and I hardly noticed but I was noticing a lot in this one. The fact that Fyre came out nearly 2 years after Darke might have something to do with that though because I wasn't in the flow of the series anymore. Nevertheless, the book would have benefited from being a bit shorter in my opinion.

Looking back at the series as a whole, I'd say overall it was a fun, memorable series with quirky and loveable characters. It's very much a 'questing' type of magical fantasy which I especially like. There are many adventures to be enjoyed and although a few of these fell flat for me, it was worth it overall. I'm even thinking I may re-read them eventually now that they're all out and I can plow straight through I might find I enjoy Fyre a bit better. I think fans of the series will be satisfied with how everything wrapped up. I'd recommend the entire series for younger readers and fans of MG/YA questing type fantasy.

I really enjoyed this book in a way I haven't enjoyed a Septimus Heap book since Flyte. I did worry a little bit that maybe the reason why I wasn't loving them so much was that I had simply grown too old, luckily, I have just discovered that this is not the case. However, I do have one slight grumble. All the interesting stuff that I really wanted to hear about was in the back pages! I was waiting for a nice, tear-jerking death for Aunt Zelda, but it was explained in a sentence, I think a much bigger deal could have been made out of this idea and many others. I preferred Marcia's character in this book as I have always found her a little irritating, here she was more willing to accept the fact that she's not always right. Merrin's involvement in the story was vaguely unnecessary, but at least the bit with Nursie in the Stranger Chamber provided some "comic relief", so to speak. I found the prologue description of the creation of the two faced ring a bit tedious and, in general, I think there were far too many ExtraOrdinary Wizards (Marcia Overstrand, Alther Mella, Julius Pike, Hotep-Ra, and Septimus Heap for a bit too) I have nothing against any of these characters, but having them all around at the same time was a bit too much. I loved the Sherlock Holmes quote about eliminating the impossible, oh, and the ghost of Jillie Djinn on the sofa is my new favourite character.

Overall, I think Fyre was a pretty good send off for this series. Not the best instalment, but I enjoyed it.

I didn't find the overarching plot of Fyre—as in, the efforts to destroy the Two-Faced Ring—all that interesting. It was a nice way for the plot to come full circle, given the ring's presence throughout the series, but it wasn't that engaging. That said, I don't think it was meant to be the focus of the story. It felt a lot more like Sage was deliberately putting the emphasis on the characters in this story: them finding little happy endings in their professional lives, personal lives, relationships with one another, etc. Which, of course, was a nice, sappy way to wrap up the series.

I appreciated, too, that Sage circled back to a number of characters and plot points from the earlier novels: the Dragon Boat reappeared, Petroc Trelawney made a triumphant return, Wolf Boy and Zelda were more involved, Jim Knee woke from his hibernation. It was just little things, really, that were nice to see again and get a bit more closure on.

I really did love the Alchemy parts of Fyre. The new elements of Alchemy that were introduced were interesting and Alchemy itself made great public progress in this story (as did Marcellus and Marcia). And for reasons I can't explain, I liked that Jenna finally got to interact with her mother's ghost but didn't get along with her. I just thought it was an interesting approach, particularly amongst all of the other myriad 'happy endings'. Not everything was perfect and I liked that. Also! I, like probably everyone, love the idea of Beetle x Jenna, one day in the future when they're older, so I was glad that even though Sage hints at it a lot, nothing concrete happened within the bounds of the series.

It's kinda weird to be done with this series, given that I first started Septimus Heap in 2008. It's been a long time coming. As much as I advocate for letting a done thing be done, I'll admit that I am happy that Sage wrote another series in this world, and I'm curious to see where this cast ended up seven years later (even if they are in the background).

I did it! The month of May 2017 will forever be remembered by me as "Septimus Heap Month". What began as an okay-ish story turned into something wonderful and delightful and fun and memorable and dear Lord I DID NOT WANT IT TO END. WHY? WHYYYYYYYYYYY????

I love Septimus and I love his family and his friends. I even love the disgusting and filthy Port Witch Coven and the pathetic excuse for a Darke Wizard that was DomDaniel. That slimy, no-good weasel Merrin Merredith? I love him too. The sassy and bossy Marcia, the loons that were the Heaps, every ghost in the Castle, even that goat-face Teritus Fume, the repulsive half-rat Manuscriptorium Conservation Scribe Ephaniah Grebe, adorable Beetle, brave Jenna, helpful Alther, bumbling Milo Banda, odd Marcellus, ALL OF THEM WILL LIVE IN MY HEART FOREVER!!!

Decidedly "eh." Some irritating parts--specifically, the characterization of the peripheral Heaps, the banality of every single romantic pairing (well, Simon and Lucy was all right; they do deserve a break), and the plot. The villains were not finale book villains. Something else that irked me, which is not a problem unique to this series at all, is how the girls in the book don't read like real girls. Furthermore, in what I am now calling the Lavender Brown effect, formerly reasonable side character girls become ridiculous and unpleasant as soon as they show interest in a guy "reserved" for a more central female character. Generally, the romance was the weak part; it felt tacked on, maybe because "stories with teenage leads should have love interests." Anyway. The parts that I did like were the mentor-pupil relationships, particularly between Marcia and Septimus. Probably aided by the fact that Marcia has consistently ranked as one of my favorite characters.

A complaint that is just me proving that I've outgrown these books: the Custodians ruled, essentially through terror, for an entire decade. Why is there nothing that shows the continuing mark of that time? Calling them the "Bad Old Days" doesn't cut it. I don't know, maybe publishers don't think middle grade readers can handle it.

Well. I started this series in elementary school, and now, at long last, I've finished it. Not going to read the sequel series (I'm not in its demographic), but thank you Ms. Sage for the stories.

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!
It was literally THE PERFECT ENDING to the series, and I absolutely loved it! It was, what, 700 pages? Yeah, I read it in 2 days.

So, I first started reading the Septimus Heap books when I was 10 or 11, and I completely fell in love with the books. The sixth book came out in 2011, and of course, I read it right away. I read a lot of other books and series in between Darke and Fyre, so I kind of forgot that a seventh book was even going to come out.* This year, Lydia started reading the series (super duper fast), and she came to book 7, Fyre. I remembered that I had only read 6 books, so of course I was very, very excited to read Fyre. I didn't remember all of the little details from the other books, but I very quickly became fascinated by the Magykal world all over again. Anyway, this book was perfect, and I loved it (a lot, if you couldn't tell)!**

* Seriously, how exactly did I forget that there was a SEVENTH book? Seven is an extremely important number in the series, so why would there not be seven books? I am disappointed in myself.
** I just reread my review, and I realize I sound like a crazy person. Sorry.

Edit: I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT believe I forgot to include this part in my review…If a movie is made for Magyk, then Lydia and I are going to audition. We're not kidding. We're also (hopefully) not crazy.

Edit: HAHAHAHAHA I went on the Septimus Heap blog, and do you know what question was number two in the FAQ section? "Will there be a movie based on MAGYK? Can I be in it? Do you have a cast in mind?" Oh well. Lydia and I will just audition for small roles I guess.

I am a big fan of this droll children's series, and Fyre (#7) did not disappoint!
The setting oozes magical fun, the characters are so recognizably human and likeable and funny (and they continue to grow!) and the plot and situations are delightfully orchestrated.

Of Physik (Septimus Heap #3)I had said:
...Ghosts, Witches, dragons, spells, secret cupboards and tunnels, boggarts, sailing ships, queens, wizards, herbs and magic rings...everything you could possibly imagine in a magical Castle realm. Mix that with Shakespearean-style mischief: comedy-of-errors(very human errors!)and mistaken identity. On top of all that--the characters are loveably ordinary; the children make friends in such a natural, uncalculated way, and the adults are so...imperfect. Lots of fun!

Honestly, I thought this book was very entertaining and a satisfying conclusion to the whole 7-book series of Septimus Heap. Sage tidied up a lot of loose ends, hinted at several happy endings, and warded off evil in a conclusive manner.

The nostalgia was a nice touch for me with these books. I used these to escape from the adult-ness of work and life this year and I think this added to the well-crafted world Sage put together. A little sad to be done but now on to other things!

Way too underrated my dude.

With Fyre a long journey that started years and years ago finally ends. It saddens me that it came to an end but I enjoyed it so much. I can't wait to get my hands on the other series that are connected to this series.
All of the characters here are like old friends. I want to read more about Septimus and Marcia and Bettlee and Rose. Surely a series I will read again and again and again.

I think this was a really long book with great suspense. We had to say goodbye to certain characters and quite some bonds were developed. But for me there was this little scene that really touched me. It's when Marcia calls Septimus her child. It was so heartwarming.

Probably the best entry in the series. Lots of call backs/references to previous books in the series in a fun way. Definitely a great children’s/middle grade series that deserves the same amount, if not more, hype as Harry Potter (and to my knowledge the author isn’t a terf so major plus to that)

Just a heads up, this is going to be an emotional gushing review of the entire series.

I’ve just finished rereading one of my all time favourite series and I’m so goddam emotional. These books are part of what made me fall in love with reading.

Angie Sage builds worlds like no one else, I love the intricate details she puts into the world in the Septimus Heap world and the little touches that add so much character to the setting. Her narrative voice holds urgency when it’s needed and delivers a sort of wry humour kind of like Jane Austen’s narrators that like accurate jabs at characters which only further endear them to the reader.

I adore how each character makes so many mistakes and has many flaws, it makes them so frustratingly human that sometimes I want to scream at them to just COMMUNICATE or STOP BEING SO STUBBORN but it makes me love them even more.

Another thing I loved: THE REDEMPTION ARCS. To the relatively small happening of Marcia starting a program for Hildegarde and other people who previously worked with Dom Daniel to redeem themselves to SIMON HEAP. I loved that Simon was able to acknowledge that he did wrong and then he had to WORK to be redeemed and to gain forgiveness, he could have blamed it on being consumed by the Darke but his mistakes were acknowledged by him and then he worked to rectify them. That kind of acknowledgement and regret at doing wrong and slow redemption arc was so good.

THE FAMILY FEELING IS SO GOOD PURE, I love how the Heaps interact with each other, sometimes dysfunctional but always a family. Lucy and Simon as a family unit has my heart and seeing the slow bonding love between them and the rest of the Heaps made me so happy. Also the found family with Marcia and Septimus has my heart, Septimus being described as Marcia’s child is so goddam soft.

I loved how the last book still made reference to the first book with petroc trelawney and the three youngest Heaps on the dragon boat.

Spit Fyre is so temperamental and contrary and he reminds me of one of my dogs and I love him.

This entire series is so good and I love it with my entire heart.

Tbh the only thing I could do without is the pairing of Jenna with Beetle (who is clearly gay and in love with Septimus) and milo And Marcia (who is clearly a power lesbian).
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Inilah kepiawaian utama Sage.

This series became unexpectedly very important to me over the course of 2024, and happily, this was the perfect ending. There are so many threads that were tied up and questions answered over the course of the book, every character we've had the slightest interest in is present and accounted for, and it's just brilliant. I'd love to have a peek at the planning process for this series, it was so well done. I'm going to miss Sep and the Castle inhabitants very much, but luckily there's a spin-off trilogy. 5 stars. I loved it.

3.5 to 4 Stars

I wish I had reread the series before coming to this one. Sage did a really good job of tying everything together, wrapping everything up, and giving everyone as happy an ending as she could. I just didn't remember all of the plotlines well enough to appreciate what this book did, I think!

Loved this series. Each book feels totally different, the only consistency is the magic and the characters - which are the best parts anyways. This last one was exciting, lots of secrets and mysteries.

I think this book is purely wonderful. Beautiful climax, story, and characters. This book by far is the best Septimus Heap book in the series. The ending is wonderful and happy. Though this does leave me with questions. What happened with Beetle and Jenna? Did the characters have a happy ending? Was Septimus successful in being an Extraordinary Wizard? But alas, this was a great book.

Wow, I couldn't imagine a better end to this series! When I first read Magyk, I was a little hesitant to continue on with the series because in my opinion it wasn't the BEST book, but I decided to keep reading and I'm SO GLAD I DID! This is one of the few series that exist in the world where the books just get better and better as they go on. I think part of the reason they were better after Magyk is because Septimus was (one of) the main character(s) as Septimus, rather than the first book where he was, like, a completely different person. I think if I ever go back and reread this series I'll be like, "seriously, THIS is how Sep started out?!?!?" My favorite character is DEFINITELY Marcia. I love how she's so imposing and irritable and strict on the outside, but inside she's really caring and ESPECIALLY has a soft spot for Septimus. I love the part in Fyre when she refers to Sep as her child before quickly correcting herself 😂 I just thought that was so sweet and hilarious! I think my favorite book in the series may have either been Flyte or Fyre. I didn't like Magyk all that much, and I didn't like Physik or Queste for the whole time situation, and Syren wasnt all that appealing to me. Darke I didnt like all that much because I feel like it seemed Sep was focusing more on Alchemie rather than Magyk and missed out on a lot of important stuff, which I didn't like at all. I don't really like Marcellus that much partly because, rather like Marcia, I felt like he was sort of stealing Sep away from her and Magyk. (Though I did find it hilarious in Fyre when Sep thought they were getting married and was utterly horrified). Anyway, after Flyte I got worried that the series would get worse because the main villain was gone for good, and the plots would be stretched thin. However, this was definitely not the case, and I love how the characters evolved over time. I read these books really fast because although long lengthwise, they were very fast paced and action packed, and I couldn't put them down. :)

Once again, Septimus, Jenna, Beetle, Marcia and the supporting cast of Heaps have to battle the Darke. This time, two evil wizards escape their imprisonment in the two-faced ring, as alchemist Marcellus Pye is working covertly to rebuild the Fyre that will kill them. Aunt Zelda, Wolf Boy, even Hotep Ra, and the Dragon Boat all play important roles in helping our heroes vanquish the Darke. As always, Mark Zug's illustrations are a high point too.

"Fyre" was a great way for the series to end. Bad guys were destroyed, good guys were successful, satisfactory hints of future love entanglements, loose ends tied up, possibility of future series were left open. It was a great ending for a very good series!

I seriously can't wait for this book! I wanna know how Angie Sage ends the series. Hopefully, she'll give everyone a happy ending and add additional books too. She mentioned wanting to write one about Marcia's childhood, which I would totally buy!
