⭐2.5/5

The CEO’s Maid follows Layana, a girl who steals a wedding ring and ends up running away, only to be found by Alli, a wealthy heir who makes her his “private maid.” Instead of treating her like a servant, Alli becomes oddly caring and protective, which quickly pushes them into a fast and confusing romance. As they deal with secrets, family drama, identity twists, and a faked death, their story spirals into one outrageous event after another.

This book wasn’t as cringe as many Wattpad stories from the same era, and that was honestly refreshing. The narration is written in deep Tagalog, so every time the characters suddenly switch to straight English, it feels awkward and out of place. There were also a few minor grammar slips in the English parts. What really took me out of the story was how unbelievably fast Alli fell in love with Layana. Blink twice and boom, he’s obsessed. Instead of looking like a strong leading man, it made him seem more like a creep. Layana wasn’t much better. She was cold and uninterested at first, then suddenly she loves him? Girl, paano nangyari yun?

The wedding being postponed because of a missing ring also felt overly dramatic. I get that stealing is wrong, and yes, Layana did steal it, but canceling everything and the corporation was collapsing because of it felt too exaggerated. And if the ring was truly that important, why did Samantha forget about it in the first place? Samantha comes off more over the top than realistic.

Then we get to the twists and wow, there were so many. Layana steals the ring, runs away, gets found, becomes Alli’s “maid”, falls in love, his parents disown him, he gets into an accident and “dies,” but surprise, he’s alive. Then he becomes Sandro, but not really, because Sandro is actually his twin brother with a different mother. And Alli didn’t die at all, it was just a cover-up by his father. And then Alli thinks Layana loves Sandro because she thought Sandro was Alli. It was wild. It felt like ten teleseryes packed into one story, and your brain just tries to keep up.

Book Review: The CEO's Maid
Author: Jossell Ferrer

I’ve been adding more books to my TBR lately, and this year I finally started exploring pop fics and Wattpad stories. The CEO's Maid is actually the first one I managed to finish.

The story started strong and immediately caught my attention. I was reading another book at the same time, but I ended up shelving that one because some parts felt a bit too cringey for me personally. Surprisingly, this book didn’t give me that feeling at the beginning, which made it easier to continue reading.

However, as the story progressed, everything started happening very quickly. The pacing became super fast, and the plot twists just kept coming one after another. At some point, it honestly started to feel a bit overwhelming and too much for me. Parang teleserye na. 😬

That said, it’s written in Filipino and the chapters are pretty short, so it’s a very easy and quick read overall.
