Saving the world is difficult. Keeping her grip on reality is harder.
Broken. Lost. Deceived.
Caet’s mind is fractured, and the secrets locked within threaten to shatter her reality. The Tetrad is closing in and attacks from Shadowed are growing. Like him. She’ll run from him, even if she doesn’t understand why.
Deep down Wraith knows he is always destined to fail. As Caet continues to pull away and his oldest companions begin to question him, the ties that bind them begin to fray. While he skirts between his obligations and his desires, he risks lives, even his own.
He’ll save her, even if she doesn’t want him to.
Broken Are the Believers follows two-time award-winning Fractured Are the Pieces and is the second book in the Fractured Realm. The series follows an unhinged heroine and her found family through territory politics, witty banter, betrayals, unexpected fade-to-black romance, questionable realities, monsters, and revenge.
Ciar is an award winning author of dark fantasy worlds, who decided dyslexia wasn’t going to stand in the way of her storytelling. She’s an avid reader, nature enthusiast, and full-time day dreamer. She has been writing and rewriting stories for longer than she can remember. Currently, she lives with her two children and pupper in New England. When Ciar isn’t writing, having fun with her children, going to the gym, playing video games or board games, she works in the local school system.
Unrelated to that, she graduated from college with a degree in history, specifically ancient history. It was such a love for history and mythology that gave her the desire to bring her stories to life, that and whenever a book or show ended wrong. Whenever that happened, she wrote her own fanfiction. Eventually that evolved into building worlds of her own to share with you all.
This is fade to black, like 1 chili pepper or even bell pepper.
Well…what can I say? A lot is happening in this book. This is the aftermath of what happened at the end of book 1. So much is unfolding but just when you get a hint of an answer another question forms. And boy howdy do I have questions. The last quarter of the book was so intense and had so much feeling I almost cried. I am looking forward to finding out what happens next wraith and Caet!! And I hate waiting. (Talking to you Ciar! lol) great book 2!

I love the magic, the world, the characters, and the suspense! I'm hooked on the way it ended and need to know what's next for these fun, moody, and broody characters!
This novel was EXPLOSIVE. It had a powerful start, with our main character, Caet, carrying a tremendous amount of guilt and anger over events from the first book, Fractured. Here, in Broken, we're introduced to a new set of characters and villains (always love a good villain scene set in the ruins of towers).
I must admit the middle of the novel was a little slower-paced than I'd liked, with a lot more questions asked than answered, and it felt like the characters were lost (I mean, they really were). However, the last 30% of the book SPED BY because I couldn't stop reading. I was HOOKED because the author kept throwing up surprise after surprise and unexpected plot twists.
And that CLIFFHANGER ENDING. I need some answers. Like NOW. Can't wait for the next installment!
Favorite bit of dialogue with sibling banter:
"So we aren't going to talk about what just happened?" Sar asked. "Nope," Caet said. "Not surprised there, Ms Bossy Pants," Grey said.
This book has dystopian and X-men vibes, and it's full of mansions, mysteries, and magic and is a follow up to the first book in the series, Fractured.
Fractured was good. Broken was great. Like Fractured, Broken still took a little while to get up to speed for me, but by the end, Pfeffer was channeling Brandon Sanderson and had her own version of a Sanderlanche. (If you know know Sanderson, you know he hits the gas the last 1/4 of the book or so and you just need to hold on for dear life.) The last quarter of this book is definitely a ride, and whether I forgive Pfeffer for what happens at the end will depend on how book 3 plays out...
I'm a high spice Romantasy reader at heart, and Broken is definitely more in the fantasy realm, so it's not my usual fare. It takes Caet and Wraith a while to reconnect after the events of book 1, but the author does placate you a little (or she placated me) with some teasing/tension between Bear and Grey, and then a bit more at the end. (I *need* Pfeffer to start writing open door.)
Even at fade-to-black, though, Pfeffer knows how to hit you just right... Wraith to Caet: "May I have you?" Me: (((Melts into a puddle)))
Overall I'm giving this 4.5 stars for making me wait on Caet and Wraith, but I'm rounding up to 5 for Bear and Grey and the Pfefferlanche at the last quarter of the book.
The world that Ciar has created is absolutely amazing and I honestly still think about her books even though I’ve been finished for a few days! I have so many questions about the ending, I cannot wait to get my hands on the third book!
This second book has every trope I love, and the fantasy that is created is beautifully written. The character development is phenomenal, I loved seeing how each of the main characters interact with one another as they battle the evil that is consuming their world.
I’m so obsessed with Caet and Wraith and their enemies to lovers relationship and the ending quite literally had me crying. I’m still not over it, in case anyone wondered.
Do yourself a favor and read the first book and then get this one when it comes out in August. It’ll blow your fantasy mind! This is a NA Fantasy with some closed door romance.
This well crafted universe is mesmerizing that has stayed with me well after finishing the book 1 and now book 2. I’m left pondering about the ending and can’t wait for book 3. This book delivers all the elements that I adore and it’s woven into a beautifully imagined fantasy landscape. The character development is superb, and I enjoyed watching the dynamics among the protagonists as they confront the looming evil. Caet and Wraith’s fiery enemies-to-lovers relationship had me completely enthralled. If you haven’t picked up these books yet, you’re truly missing something special—prepare to be amazed
This was a wonderful second-installation in the Fractured universe. Everything that Ciar did well in their first book, they expanded on and elevated in this book. The monsters were cooler, the fights were more detailed and critical to the characters' well-being, and the plot twists and cliff-hangers had me floored. This second book really shows Ciar's growth as a writer, and in each installation, I feel more connected to and protective of Caet, Wraith, Grey, Bear, Sar, and Avery. I so look forward to the next book in this series, as the cliff-hanger Ciar left me with had me on the edge of my seat and with more questions to be answered.
I was lucky enough to receive book 1 and 2 as ARC reads.
I enjoyed book 2 so much more.
Book 1 had a really interesting story and it kept me wanting more and needing to know how it ended.
Book 2 gave us a deeper dive into the world and the background I was missing from the characters.
So many twists and turns.
I'd love to read a prequel with Citi and Malic and Wraiths lives as I feel like there's so much more to their stories and also some more insight into Nan's life.
A great fantasy read. I loved Caet and Wraith. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes! This is the second book of the series and they should be read in order. The characters are well developed and world building was excellent. The twist and turns keep you immersed in the story and you won’t be able to put it down. Loved it!
““Now’s not the time to be all ‘I can’t be hurt, I’m fine.’” Caet stifled a laugh at the girl’s stern expression. The child wasn’t wrong.”
-Bingeworthy -Doesn’t suffer from second book syndrome I actually enjoyed this book more after the world building from book one -Fade to black but this book still made me swoon -Reading this book is a bit like a fever dream because Caet is going through it 😅 -I’m going to need to have some words with you about that ending Ciar (I think I trust you though…?) 😂 -Some of my questions from book one were answered but I have so many more now. Can’t wait to see where the next book goes from here
I loved this just as much as book 1, even though I feel like I now understand less than I did at the end of Fractured. The world created here is huge and I'm anxiously awaiting the next book hoping that the answers we got here are going to be explained there.
Loved this book just as much if not more than I loved the first book in the series. I enjoyed learning more about the characters and the world they live it. The ending was incredible and made me even more excited for Book 3, can't wait for it to come out!!
This book is full of drama with no communication between characters. It's like a soap opera! What a waste of time to get almost nowhere. I had Cart and Wraith figured out from the beginning and an inkling about Nan. This could have been a much shorter series!!
Perfect character development & world building, just like book 1! I’m obsessed with Caet and Wraith and I NEED MORE. Ugh CIAR HOW COULD YOU LEAVE ME HANGING LIKE THAT
