It seems like it would be hard to top the first four books in the series, but Bryan has managed to do that with this fifth entry. Katie Beaumont, who discovered on her 50th birthday that she came from a line of powerful witches, has stepped up to her newest assignment from Karma, trying to discover -- and punish -- whomever has tarnished the brilliant reputation of a talented and compassionate school principal, who happens to be the sister of Katie's lawyer and friend, Davina. In the meantime, we see relationship growth for Katie's saucy best friend, Frankie, and for Katie's adult children, but that road is never totally smooth. And, of course, if either of Katie's daughters bears a daughter of her own, the reign of Zoya, the complicated matriarch of the family, must come to a close. Has Zoya sufficiently mended her ways to ensure her transition will be a positive one?

Now the hard part is waiting to find out how it all turns out! At least there's time to re-read the series again before then, though.
