Passion: The Arranged Hearts Series

Rate this book
Passion /ˈpa-shən/: a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept

Giselle King refuses to wait for time to pass her by without obtaining everything she desires. After fulfilling her goal of becoming a dental hygienist and having financial stability, she knows she’s ready for a family. Years of dating proved to be a waste. An arrangement was made to bless her with two beautiful children, who keep her busy, but she’s still not totally happy. She wants a loving relationship with the man of her dreams… a man that’s perfect for her. Impatience with the dating process causes her to make another arrangement. Arranged Hearts has a reputation of pairing couples, promising a high success rate. If an arrangement worked for having her babies, why wouldn’t it work for obtaining a husband?

The party scene of lust and temporary fulfillment was no longer appealing to Gentry Fleming. Those years have flown by in a haze, and now, his desires have shifted. As a successful veterinarian, the love of animals isn’t enough. He desires a a devoted wife and beautiful children. He’s already set his life up perfectly to accommodate them. The problem is the women he meets only intrigue him physically. While that’s important to him, it isn’t all that he needs. He wants a woman that would be his perfect complement. His patience is running thin, so he decides to hire someone to weed out the undesirable for him. Arranged Hearts seem like his best option, and he’s down to take the risk.

If the pairing is successful, love will eventually come. That can happen quickly, or it could take some time, but Giselle and Gentry are willing to work toward it. Their attraction and chemistry couldn’t have been matched better, but opposition rears its ugly head. Gentry doesn’t work well in an environment filled with drama, and Giselle isn’t a fan of it either. However, at this point, it is out of their control. Will the arranged hearts commit to forever, or will I do turn into I don’t?

Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.

Ehh MID. Up until they weren't, Gentry and Elle were adorable. This marriage arrangement with Gentry wasn't something Giselle was truly prepared for. She knew what baggage she carried she should have told Clayton. Clayton was annoying.

This was sickly sweet. I didn’t know people that met for the first time ever at the altar will be this optimistic and sweet but here we are……whew!
I’m glad there was baby daddy drama here, it really balanced out the story.

Overall, I did really enjoy the story. The main characters were amazing with great chemistry, the kids were adorable, I found myself not even disliking the baby daddy and the narrators did a phenomenal job with this story.

Story: 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Narration: 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spicy level: 4 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the ALC although i forgot to download it and eventually had to buy it

Passion hooked me instantly with the interviews at the start, I knew then that it would be good, and boy was I right.

I'd like to talk about Gentry first though, because I haven't read about a better book man in a hot minute. He literally got introduced, and had me giggling and kicking my feet in five seconds, it was that serious.

You know those videos of people dancing and they're so smooth with it? That's Gentry, 100%, but in everything he does. He's climbing up the book boyfriend list as we speak.

Giselle was great too, I loved how cute and funny she was, but she let Clayton go too far, she should've put a cap on it early on. I was NOT a fan of that whole conflict, but we're lucky Gentry is so patient and was 10 toes down for Giselle already because...

Anyway, I really gotta go back and read about the Berotte family because I am INTRIGUED.

I am really excited about this series, as you want to know if the matchmakers get it right. I thought the interview portion was adorable, as both participants were candid in their responses. We knew right away that these two were a match.

Giselle, Giselle, Giselle.... ma'am, you seem to have most of your life together, but that situation with Clayton had me giving you the 👀. I don't care how good of friends you are, why would you put yourself in a situation with him like that with no assurances, and protections? Trust no one! Ughh..

Then going through this process and keeping it a secret from everyone? Come on girl! At your big age, if this is what you wanted to do, then no one should have been able to talk you out of it. F them people! 🤷🏾‍♀️Are you a strong independent woman, or aren't you? All you did was cause a whole ish storm of mess for yourself! 😤

Gentry was a put together man, who had no time for mundane dating, and wanted to find his queen. Arranged Hearts was the perfect solution for him. He was excited to begin his new life, with the woman of his dreams. He and Giselle were equally attracted to each other when they met, and sparks were flying like crazy. Looks like a happily ever after is theirs. Well....

Once Gentry finds out about her children, and that Clayton has no idea what she has done, he knew ish was going to hit the fan. However, he was already so smitten with Giselle, he would ride this out.

That damn Clayton was straight trash! I get your anger in the beginning, but that spoiled brat behavior was unbecoming and bi**h-like! 🤯 Why not sit down and have a serious conversation with Giselle and find out why she did this, she supposed to be your best friend right? Ughhh.... 😡

Gentry was way more patient than he should have been, cause Giselle was allowing Clayton to rule her. Ain't no way he should have been allowed to just hijack her kids and make her bend to his will! 🤬 Giselle needs to get on her knees morning, noon, and night to thank God for the love that Gentry had for her. She was doin' the most, and he was fed up!

Giselle applied pressure to all my nerves this entire read and has not redeemed herself with me. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Long as Gentry is happy, then I'm good wit it.

Definitely an insta-love story worth EVERY PAGE!! This book had me after “the interviews,” had me all smiling and giddy! Signing up for a service that pairs couples together based on an interview, & the couples meet one another for the first time at the alter to be married seems nerve wracking! In this instance though, it worked out well for Gentry Fleming & Giselle King!

Gentry, Gentry, GENTRY!!! If he wasn’t one of the smoothest talking, patient, passionate men ever written … whewww! I loved how he loved on Giselle & when it came time to, her children! He definitely defined a man’s MAN! He was big STEPPING behind Giselle!

Giselle went through it in this book! Although she rubbed me raw at certain points in the story, I understood her logic behind taking the steps she took with her children. Even how she reverted back to her old self in times of trouble. After everything, I was so happy with the outcome for her, she definitely deserved it!

I really couldn’t stand Clayton, & even after the ending I still can’t stand him 😂! To see that he was introduced to Shyrón Berotte though, made me happy 🤣! The way he was clowning this whole book ate me up real bad!

I loved everything about this read! The family dynamic is always written so strongly in her books & the stories are always sooooo rich. Every time there is a “stroll” scene, no matter the forum, I LIVEEEEEEEEE EACH AND EVERYTIME!!

Knowing that this is a spin off for “Gangsta” & seeing all the characters involved, made me think I should have saved this for last, but I couldn’t resist!!

This start to a series 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!!!

I wanted to love this book and I did for the first 20%-25% of it and then it all went to hell.

The conflict that leads to the 3rd act breakup was so damn avoidable and was essentially caused and prolonged by Giselle which was annoying. Once the relationship gets rocky, Gentry is already looking at other women and commenting on how attractive the owner of one of his patients is (he's a vet). He's seemingly so ready to act on this attraction that the owner has to talk him out of his attraction and remind him that he loves his wife 🙄. DA FAQ 🤔🤷🏾‍♀️. Nah homie, you don't need to be married.

I love the theme of this series but this was a miss for me.

Can you say stressssssed?!?!?

These characters stressed me completely out.
They had an instant connection and chemistry that was very organic. It was almost like they knew each other in another lifetime.
When I realized Ms. Ma'am didn't communicate with her immediate family about her plans, I saw the writing on the wall.
I just knew things were going left and baby they went left.
Glad it all worked out in the end...but they all could stand to sit on some lady's couch, and maybe even touch some grass.
Whew

Drama!

Now I wasn’t expecting that as the arrangement for kids Giselle! Omg! I knew this wasn’t going to go well when she signed up for Arranged Hearts and told no one. That never ends well! And whew baby Gentry was a man! He had a lot of patience that I honestly need in real life. I’m glad he didn’t slip into a situation because things were tough with Giselle. Giselle was pushing it though, and I get it she’s a real deal survivor, but your mom is “the lady”! Go sit on her couch and talk that out! Lol Overall I enjoyed this book and loved the appearance of The Berotte Family! Again this was so good! It had drama, good sex scenes, and good romance! I’m excited to read more from this series!

I enjoyed the pairing of Giselle and Gentry in this book from the Arranged Hearts series. I felt they complemented each other well; however, she should have taken his advice in the beginning when it came to her kids and their father Clayton. Clayton was also annoying in this book, while it was understandable at first that he wouldn't want Giselle to have a man that she just met around their kids, when you find out what he was doing, it became very hypocritical and he did nothing but try to make their relationship miserable with his actions.

I enjoyed the book overall and I was happy that everything worked out in the end and that Giselle's family came around to support her but I just felt like it had too much unnecessary drama with Clayton.

Girl get on this series! Monica Walter’s quickly became a must read author with this one! Black love by a Black author, this follows Giselle who is a a dental hygienist and has two kids (not what you expect though) and while that profession sounds hella boring to me, this woman is anything but!!! Our mmc is a veterinarian named Gentry who is one fineeeee specimen. This whole series is about arranged marriages and I love it!!! Gentry did piss me tf off for a while but he was perfect for Giselle.

I had an advanced listener copy from Dreamscape and I think the narrators did a good job. Benjamin Charles is always a joy and I think this was my first listen from Reina Mystique. The story was good; the chemistry was easy to grasp from Gentry and Giselle. I think Gentry was extremely patient with Giselle because she had too many chances to get her situation under control. Clayton really did the most and I think Giselle didn’t expect his behavior. But, this was a perfect example of why communication is so important. The spice between Gentry and Giselle was hot and I am glad they got it together in the end.

Thanks to netgalley and Dreamscape.

Great book. Married at 1st sight. Giselle was so patient when it came to the situation with her children. And Gentry was even more patient given the circumstances. I would have loved for the story to continue m.

Perfectly Matched!

Well, another one in the books, Mrs. Walters has done it again. After reading this book, I know that this series is going to be another artifact in the black romance genre. Gentry and Giselle went through just as many trials and tribulations as a regular couple that didn't use the Arranged Hearts service. Their valleys proved that bitter baby mamas and daddies exist no matter what the circumstance is. Clayton was a piece of work, and Giselle did not deserve all the turmoil he put her through. The kids did not as well. However, Kizzie was the bridge that mended the gap between Gentry and Giselle. Her being inquistive and observant put the nail in the coffin for Clayton. I absolutely loved her five-year old personality. Gentry had to use the little patience he had to hold onto his marriage. He fell quick and hard for Giselle. He knew she was his forever. Giselle had the right amount of support surrounding her. Vegas did not play about his sister. He made sure the right person or people were there for her at the right time. He was more attentive to Giselle than her other brother Daniel. With Vegas and Shy's assistance, Giselle finally got to live her happily ever after with Gentry. Gentry held on and weathered the storm with her and the kids. The kids fell in love with him just like their mom had. Kerri at Aranged Hearts perfectly matched Gentry and Giselle. Their chemistry developed the day of the wedding and was scorching from that point on.

Ladies and gents, get ready. I am predicting that this series is going to be fire. I highly suggest getting into it. I am anticipating the next masterpiece in this series. If Gentry and Giselle can say "I do," and it doesn't turn into "I don't," then I feel other couples can do the same.

3.75 Stars Rounded Up

This audiobook was made available for me to listen to and review by Monica Walters, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley.

This audiobook is narrated by Benjamin Charles and Reina Mystique. I'm unfamiliar with both of the narrators. They did a great job. Mr. Charles has a deep sexy voice that suited the character well.

This book is part of The Arranged Hearts Series by multiple authors including the novels: Allure by Iesha Bree, Tension by C. Monet, Surrender by Kimberly Brown, Desire by Kay Shanee, and Embrace by Mya.

This starts with content warnings and I always appreciate that from an author. This can easily be read as a stand-alone if the reader doesn't want to commit to the entire series.

The basic premise of this novel is the love interests are connected by a dating service that arranges meet your spouse at the altar marriages. I used to watch the TV show, "Married at First Sight" so I was super excited to read a romance novel with the same premise. This flew through the arranged part and got right to the marriage. Giselle is a single mom with 2 children. She survived a major car accident and decided to have children with a best friend rather than wait for marriage. Gentry is a veterinarian with his own practice who likes thick and curvy women. He likes Giselle on sight.

The couple seem to have instant chemistry but the action of the book is focused outside of their relationship. Romance is a genre rife with tropes and the trope used to cause friction in the relationship between Gentry & Giselle felt a bit tropey. I fully bought and liked them as a couple, just the nonsense romance trope went on a tad too long for my tastes. This was very spicy and I'd definitely read another novel by this author.

Thank you to Monica Walters, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook. All opinions and viewpoints expressed in this review are my own.

This is my favorite book out of the series thus far! Passion had everything that I could have asked for and then some. There was comedy, drama and plenty of spark. For this to be my first Monica Walters book, it really did serve and I will be coming back for more.

Giselle was a woman who lived life on her own terms.... She wanted a baby and made it happen. She wanted a husband and damn it if she didn't luck out with Gentry. He was patient and he was protective but he wasn't perfect. I loved that Monica wrote them as real people with real flaws. As an independent mother it was hard for Giselle to fully lean on Gentry and so she pushed him away emotionally. Gentry wanted more than her body, he wanted her heart and soul. When he didn't get that he was ready to give up and nearly faltered.

The fact that Monica surprised me not once but 2xs with the behaviors of side characters like Clayton and Shakira. I appreciated that she didn't make Shakira out to be an opportunistic floozy because some other author would. For that alone, I'd recommend this one.

3⭐️🌶️🌶️ Giselle and Gentry to me did not have chemistry. It was very Insta love, but there was no chemistry there. I think Giselle was annoying and that she let her children’s dad dictate what was going on in her brand-new marriage, and I didn’t like Gentry either. He literally tried to break up with her multiple times and started catching feelings for one of his patients when she was struggling with drama regarding her kids.

Married at first sight without the cameras.
Giselle should’ve told Clayton she was going to do Arranged Hearts. But I think even if she did he would have still shown his entire ass like he did.
To this day I’m still not sure if Clayton was in love with Giselle or not because he was still doing him without her knowing.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars! Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC! Giselle is ready for a relationship, her happily ever after, the man of her dreams. She has two children, from an arrangement that she had with her best friend, she has a great career and now she’s ready for love. She decides to pay for a matchmaking service, Arranged Hearts to help her find her one true love.

Gentry is a veterinarian and is tired of being single and is also ready to find the love of his life. He also decides to use Arranged Hearts to help him find the one, his person, his future wife.

The matchmaking service matches these two and without seeing each other they embark on their Arranged Hearts journey and get married sight unseen. They had instant attraction and felt that they met their match. What could go wrong?

I enjoyed Giselle and Gentry’s journey and we find out if their relationship can weather some storms and if they will come out in the end with their happily ever after. I really enjoyed this story and definitely recommend.

Passion? More like Baby Daddy Drama.

The setup promises something short, fun, and smutty, but the story is anything but. It’s entirely centered on the baby daddy drama the heroine faces after the ill-advised decision to not tell her baby daddy that she’s having an arranged marriage. And don’t get me started on the hero! His lack of empathy when the heroine faces real struggles shows just how shallow his feelings really are. Making her feel like the problem when it's her baby daddy causing the issues? Grow up, my dude.

I had high hopes for the book but half way through i was ready to dnf. I loved the narrator's. If Monica's goal was to get emotions and feelings out of me, well the story gets a 5 all day long. The only people i liked was the kids and the lady with the only common sense in the book that Gentry kissed. Boy you wasn’t serious about marriage.

I was with the instant attraction between Gentry and Giselle. They wasted no time but after that part of the story it was a chop. Giselle should’ve told Clayton if anybody about arranged hearts. If she wanted to be a solo parent then 1) should’ve had him sign his rights over from jump or 2) go to a sperm bank. He was in those kids life for real. Not just babysitting. Prime example of watch who you have kids with and stop being desperate to have kids. Now yes Clayton did some clown ish and some foul ish when kizzie spilled the beans. I wanted to fight him. However, Gentry and Giselle, her especially, are childish/clown behavior too. No matter how good a background check is you never truly know someone and no one should be willing to take that risk with their kids. Mind y’all this stuff happens in a month. So yea that’s not long enough. Gentry strikes me as a man i thought would understand because I’m pretty sure if he had kids he wouldn’t just want any ol man around his kids. Lastly, maybe i missed it but 1) no one was telling Giselle how messed up she was. 2) why did it seem everyone hated Clayton before this marriage. Y'all barely know Gentry but praising him like a king.

I have to start this review by thanking Monica Walters. I'm in a book, y’all, and I have a kid! If you know me and my fertility issues, you’ll know how deeply this touched me. Now… onto Gentry and Giselle because these two did my head in! I was not expecting this book to play out as it did. Gentry and Giselle's explosiveness was on 10 from first sight. Their connection was so beautiful that it actually hurt me to read sometimes. They were a beautiful couple and knew they could have it all, but the storm they had to weather was not one I saw coming. Giselle’s situation with her “friend” was unorthodox but not uncommon, but how she handled it was. I got her at the beginning, but as time went on, I was over her behind. Gentry found patience, which he wasn’t even aware he possessed because he loved her so much, and it showed. In the end, everything played out as it should have, and we got a Monica Walters HEA! Monica Walters did her thing yet again with this one. If this is how this series is going to be, I’m all in. We got to see an arranged marriage that I wasn’t so sure about, along with reconnecting with past characters, and of course, my baby daddy Shy had to show why he ain't to be slept on 😝

I picked this one up on a whim because I was intrigued by two Black professionals using a matchmaking service for an arranged marriage where the couple doesn’t meet until they are at the alter. That being said, for a book that is less than 200 pages, this book had chemistry, heat, and a whole lot of MESS.

I immediately loved both Giselle and Gentry, and I thought that their chemistry felt very natural and not forced. However, I wanted to beat the hell out of Giselle’s best friend/baby daddy. He was stressing me out most of the story, and I just wanted to throw him into a volcano so Giselle and Gentry could get to their HEA. In the end, it was worth it though!

Thank you to Dreamscape Media for providing a review copy.

It was cute then it got annoying…real fast. A solid 80% of the book focused on Elle’s bd problems. There was maybe one date, nothing about the honeymoon, I don’t understand how they “loved” each other and SO fast if they only f-cked?

Giselle not telling her family and her bd/“best friend” about her getting married told me she could not handle confrontation head on and wasn’t really ready for marriage. I could understand why her bd was mad at first but after a while it was annoying and drawn out.

Gentry kissing his client on the head gave me an IMMEDIATE ick and I literally could not look at him the same after that. He folded too fast. Smh. The fact SHE had to tell him to fight for his marriage was very telling.

This was very close to struggle love, honestly.

This book reminded me that love can be both a choice and a blessing. It gave me a romance that was steady, grown, and tender enough to make me smile. The outside drama added tension, but at its core, I loved how Monica Walters showed that love doesn’t always have to come from chance or chaos it can come from two people deciding they deserve something real and making space for it. The chemistry was there, but what stood out most was how their connection was rooted in stability, devotion, and a willingness to try.
