Just One Time

Rate this book
There are worse things than turning forty.

However, I can’t seem to evade my worry of my biological clock, and my fear that time is running out. I’ve always wanted to be a mother, and with each passing day, there is a greater chance that might be a dream of mine that will never come true.

And if the clock isn’t loud enough— my controlling and overly judgmental mom is. Her snide comments never go unsaid and her numerous failed attempts at setting me up with any new bachelors in town are enough to spur small town gossip for months at a time. Never mind the fact that she tried to set me up with Old Man Bucky down the street from her— the frail but sweet widow who walks with a cane and has grandchildren my age.

But this isn’t about my mom or her obsessive need to see me settle down and pop out the grand babies she so desperately wants. This is about the emptiness that has lingered inside of me for so long that I worry I will never fill it.

I have a lot to be thankful for in my life. I’m in good health. I run a successful cafe that I inherited from my grandparents and an incredibly handsome best friend who is willing to help make my dream of becoming a mother come true.

It may not be the most conventional way to start a family, but there is no one that I trust more. Besides, we agreed that it would only happen once. Regardless of the outcome, we walk away with our friendship intact. I know this is crossing the line of friendship, but this is my one shot. It’s one night.

What could possibly go wrong?

Holy Hott!! Just One Time is never enough, with me at least lol.. Nate and Abby had been best of friends since they was 7 years old!!
Abby biological clock was ticking way to loudly that all she thought about was becoming a mom, but didn't know what to do. She talked with her doctor about different ways as she was single with no guy in sight or mind. When she had talk with her sister about it and Nate's name was brought up, Abby had loved him most of her life but didn't want to cross or blur the lines of the friendship.. But sometimes, you have to do things to get what u want.. This book is scorching hot!! Samantha you out did yourself with this one and I can't wait to read the others..

Just One Time is a best friends to lovers, pregnancy romance set in the small town of Beaumont Creek. Abby and Nate have been besties since they were kids. Now both are 40, with Abby owning a bakery and Nate being a firefighter. Abby really wants a baby. She jokingly proposed that Nate be her sperm donor, but he wants to do things the old fashioned way. One thing leads to another and Abby ends up pregnant. The story shows her and Nate growing closer throughout the pregnancy, along with their meddling families wondering what their relationship really is as Abby’s due date comes closer.

Overall, I really liked the premise of the story. However, the writing was very cringey to me and some scenes/chapters needed to be fleshed out a lot more. I loved Abby and Nate’s chemistry but their smex scenes were a bit lackluster. Also, the third act breakup was the type of miscommunication that makes me scream where one person sees something, overreacts/misinterprets what they saw, and there’s no convo for weeks to break the ice. They’d had great conversations when they had conflict throughout the story so the miscommunication was annoying at that point.

I do want to read the next book when it releases because I was very intrigued by Abby’s sister, Jane. It’ll be an older woman, single mom story between her and Nate’s friend, Capshaw.

TROPES: friends to lovers/parents; pregnancy (seen throughout the story); small town; firefighter H; close-knit (ish) family

This is a super cute childhood friends to lovers where Abby, who just turned the big 4-0, feels her biological clock ticking away and is worried about the cost of IVF treatments and questions that come with sperm donation. Determined to become a mother, and at the urging of her sister, Abby asks Nate (her best friend) to donate his sperm since she knows all about him and his family history already. Once Nate agrees to Abby's idea, they lay down the rule - just one time.

I love starting a new series. I love getting to know the characters, their quirks, what makes them tick, and I love even more guessing who is going to be the center of attention in the next book 😄 I'm definitely looking forward to book 2!

LOVED: Abby's relationship with her sister and how she supported her while she was having problems with her ex.

AWW: The photo albums. And Abby's parents at the end of the book.

FAVE QUOTE: So you want to do like a turkey-baster type thing?

BEST SPICY SCENE: In the bath at the cabin. Or in Nate's shower.

THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU IF: You love a small town, friends to lovers, low drama, lots of laughs and strong family vibes.

Just turned 40, Abby is feeling like time is running out. She has not found the man to capture her heart and share the white picket fence, plus kids with. After talking to her doctor she realizes that she could still achieve one dream, have a baby. When her best friend Nate offers to be the donor, she is not sure what to think but decides who better to do this with. What happens though when they both navigate Abby being pregnant and not communicating with one another one what each other truly wants?

This was a great start to new series. I thought a bit angsty at times but then I think it would be hard to to switch from being best friends into another level neither considered. If you like friends to lovers story this is one to pick up.

Miscommunication is awful

The age range picked for the characters didn't match the story. If they were thirty it would have worked. Forty for women is different, a pregnancy is automatically a high risk pregnancy. The chances of getting pregnant without help are greatly reduced. Some women can sail through it but, doctors warn you about everything that can go wrong.
The rest of the book doesn't work because they don't act like adults. Forty is the start of adultier adults. There is very little time for bs, anywhere in your life. The concern you felt for looking foolish has morphed into a willingness to have uncomfortable conversations. Yeah, this book was a fail for me.

This story is full of humor, angst, family, a good mix of side characters, and a steamy connection between two best friends. Abby and Nate have been best friends since they were 7 years old and so it only makes sense that when she makes the decision she wants to have a baby that she would tell Nate. The surprise comes in when he offers to be the father. And thus begins the dance between these two as they struggle with the feelings of love that they have for each other but are afraid to admit. There was a point where I wanted to lock these two up in a room and tell them to really talk to each other. But then, we would have missed out on a lot that happened between them. I'm so looking forward to reading Jane's story.

This book had every bit the sweet Romantic hometown/ best friends to lovers feel. I loved it all from start to finish and my heart had many swoon worthy moments.
Abby was sweet and relatable. You wanted her happy ending. Nate brought the steam and touch of jealousy all the while being handsome and sweet. When he offers to help with her baby dreams they find that once was not enough and maybe there could be more. Question is will they find their way before it’s too late!

Great read.

This was such a sweet story, I do love a friend's to lovers take and this was a great example of that. Abby and Nate were so good together I just kept willing them to talk to each other! They had such great chemistry together and I loved the way he doted on, and took care of her.

This small town, best friends to lovers romance was so hot! Abby and Nate have been friends since they were 7 years old and now at forty Abby’s biological clock and her chance at motherhood are ticking. She makes the decision to have a baby and when she tells Nate he offers to be the father!

Their journey from best friends to lovers to parents is hilarious, relatable, and there is an amazing group of supportive friends and family. Abby and Nate were so cute together and their chemistry was explosive! The writing, humor, and pacing was well done and I know anytime I read one of Samantha Baca’s books I’m going to have a great time!

I’m looking forward to the rest of the Beaumont Creek series!

Braylee Spade is a new to me narrator and I really enjoyed their work!

Abby has just turned forty and finds herself feeling depressed because her life is not what she expected it to be at this point. In her mind she should be happily married to a man who loves and adores her and have beautiful children they dote on. Whenever Abby sees others living the life she feels that she should have by now she cannot help but feel a bit envious. Of course, Abby’s mom harps at her constantly about having a baby and getting married so that does not help. She feels overwhelming sadness about running out of time to have a baby and it consumes her thoughts until she gets a brilliant idea that involves her best friend Nate.

Nate and Abby have been best friends since childhood and are practically inseparable. They tell each other everything and always have each other’s backs. When Abby confides her feelings to Nate about wanting a baby, he is more than happy to help. They agree that as best friends they will be great parents and decide to take the next step in their friendship. Nate and Abby decide that rather than do costly fertility procedures that they will conceive a baby the old-fashioned way. Wary of how this will affect their friendship they discuss taking things slow but that all changes with one moment of intense passion that sparks between them.

That one moment of passion turns into several more nights of passion between them. Neither Nate nor Abby expected this to happen and are taking it one day at a time. Each finds themselves falling in love with the other, but fear of rejection stops them from discussing their feelings. When Abby becomes pregnant it is unexpected and the timing is horrible. She has recently started dating a man that her mom set her up with. Abby’s parents are unaware of the turn that Nate and Abby’s relationship took or that Abby is pregnant. What will become of Nate and Abby’s friendship? Can they ever be more than friends?

I adored this book and was surprised by the style of the author’s writing. It was not at all what I expected from a friends to lovers romance book. The relationship between Abby and Nate was unique and to be admired. They were so close that they were able to let their guard down with one another, although this was a bit reluctantly and ill-timed in Abby’s case at times. I actually laughed out loud numerous times, even during some of the steamy sex scenes. (My husband actually looked at me a few times and asked what was so funny, but we were in mixed company, so I was unable to read the parts to him that I was chuckling at.) All I will say is that they were a bit unusual and not typical of a romantic or passionate moment. For me, I felt that they were realistic and raw which made me want to read all that much more. Abby had some moments during her pregnancy that I am sure many women can relate with and Nate was a trooper through them all.

I loved this book, but I think my favorite part was when Abby told off her sister’s ex husband. I nearly peed myself laughing at what she said to him. I might have to keep Abby’s words in mind the next time someone gets on my bad side, lol. I loved this book and cannot begin to say enough good things about this author’s writing style. It was romance, passion, friendship, love, angst, and a smidge of jealousy with a side of wit and humor thrown in. I loved it and cannot wait to read more by this author.

Abby turned 40 and her one dream of becoming a mother is quickly slipping away. Enters her best friend Nate to save the day. Such an amazing friendship! I really enjoyed this story. Turning 40 this year as well, I can completely understand her plight. Wanting to have a baby and running out of time. I already have a teenager, but would really like one more LOL.

I loved the way the story progressed and flowed. It kept me entertained from beginning to end. It's a true friends to lovers story as they've been friends since childhood. I knew they were already in love with each other, and not in a best friends way, from the first chapter. There was just something in their tone that gave it away in the first few pages. Nate completely accepted it while Abby on the other hand was in denial. However, both never broached the subject not wanting to put their friendship in jeopardy. What I found interesting is they did all the relationship things but didn't have the title or defined it as such.

There were points in the story that irked me such as when Abby told Nate about she was pregnant. She was more afraid of the guy she was casually seeing leaving her, although she admitted there's no real chemistry between them. It almost felt like "I got what I wanted from you (Nate) and now you're not as important as he is and our friendship." My heart broke for him at the moment as he was finally on the verge of admitting his feelings to her. I had hoped the pregnancy would make her finally realize her feelings for Nate, but she seemed to push him away. At least she realized she was wrong and apologized for doing that.

Another point that ticked me off was both of them being stupid towards the end of the book. I'm not one to make assumptions and walk away. So I would have confronted Abby about what happened. Of course he didn't and was hurt, Nate took the new job and left town, assuming she was getting the family she always wanted with her ex. Don't make assumptions people!! Ask questions and get answers. And don't lie to each other and themselves about their feelings. I could've slapped them both. HOWEVER, when Abby went into labor, all the truths came out, and I was happy! Overall, it was such a great book. I love stories that draw me in emotionally and have me personally invested in their love story and the outcome. This one definitely did that, and I'd definitely recommend it.

I feel like this book was messy. So many things happened and it just felt chaotic. Nate was a really good best friend. He was willing to impregnate Abby so she could live out her dream. She was really messy. She started dating the guy her mom set her up with then she found out she was pregnant. She felt jealous when he spoke to another woman. He seemed like a nice guy but then he dipped when he found out she was pregnant. I was sad bcs we didn't get to see that happen. She just tells Nate that they broke up and that's it that's all. But then her childhood sweetheart comes back into town after 20 years and Nate catches them kissing. Instead of being a sound adult and talking it out, he takes a job in a town that's three hours away. Kinda stupid and inconsiderate considering that he was planning on raising his daughter alongside Abby and helping her out when needed. But bro just upped and left. He didn't even fight for it. That was annoying. Her mom was also annoying at the start but I'm glad she left for a good chunk of the book. And when she did come back, she was a changed woman. Slay. Her sister's ex-husband is an ass and she really needs to give Nate's coworker a chance. Would I read their book? Probably not if it's just as messy as this one, but I'm lowkey curious.

Overall, it was an ok book. Chaotic is definitely how I would describe it. Nate and Abby do literally all the couple things together but don't put a label on it. The second another guy comes in, Abby leaves Nate side (ok it's not as bad as I'm describing it but it's noticeable). They're 40 years old but I feel like their maturity puts them in their 20s. The one thing that really kept me going is the short chapters. That kept my attention and made it really easy to move forward and read it. Everything was fast-paced so I liked that.

My first book from this author and I truly like the premise of a girl turning 40 wanting to have a baby since the clock was ticking. This is such a real thing among many woman. Now whether that have a smoking hot firefighter bestie at their disposal willing to step in is of course where the fiction comes in. But alas, Nate is a ridiculous sweet, loving, thoughtful bestie who would do anything for Abby, the girl he has loved since they were 7. What I appreciated about this story was that once Abby declared this is what she wanted and Nate said he would do it that they literally did it that night. The story covers her entire pregnancy and how they are best friends and lovers but not in a relationship.

Things I loved
-There is a lot of spice and fun bedroom experiments.
-Abby’s sister and Capshaw’s chemistry plus when Capshaw comforted her son
-The teasing between Nate and Abby

Things that were a bit off for me
-The Just One Time title and theme of this was a little odd since originally they thought they’d have sex one time but clearly that wasn’t the case and really did they think they’d get knocked up after one try?
-The fact that they tell each other everything and can read each other so well but couldn’t officially decide to talk about being together in a relationship and that was the main conflict made me want to shake them. Like they know when the other is lying but they could t figure out that the other person loved loved them? Also not talking about it especially since they were both in their 40s
-The misunderstanding that lead him to flee again really they didn’t try to figure that out sooner? Glad there was a HEAT but ugh that part hurt.

Still recommend for a quick spicy read.

I've read Samantha Baca before, but this is my favorite book of hers yet! Maybe because it's more "real" to me since my husband and I had children later in our lives (tho I wasn't quite as old as Abby). My sister is also going thru something similar and she is closer in age to Abby and her boyfriend is as well, so I found this book more relatable to my life experiences.

Abby & Nate are bestfriends, have been for most of their lives, ever since Nate rescued Abby in elementary school from another boy who was teasing Abby about her underwear lol! Now they are both 40, still single, and Abby is hearing her biological clock ticking away. She decides she is going to do something about it and get pregnant, even if that means going to a sperm bank. Abby's sister puts an idea in her head and Abby discusses the idea with Nate about a one time thing between them to make a baby. Nate is all about helping Abby, he wants her to be happy and what's wrong with two best friends having a baby together?! But little did they expect the sparks that flew between them! After just one time neither one wanted to keep their hands off each other!

The book had me laughing at the crazy pregnancy experiences Abby would have (let's just say she has a LOT of gas!) and also sad when Nate & Abby just couldn't get their feelings out. I will not give away spoilers here, so you'll just have to read it to find out...

I also love Abby's sister! I cannot wait til the next book comes out and I can read about her chance to start over at love. I enjoyed reading about the fireman pursuing her! Good job Ms. Baca! Keep us entertained with the romance at Beaumont Creek!

A wonderful beginning to the Beaumont creek series and I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook..Narrated by Braylee Spade who I found to have a pleasant voice and easy to listen to..she did an amazing job.
Just One Time by Samamntha Baca is a best friends to lovers romance,Nate and Abby have been friends since childhood.
Nate is a firefighter and is very popluar with the ladies,he has no trouble in finding a woman to enjoy.
Abby owns a cafe/bakery she had just turned 40 and felt like all of her dreams of becoming a mother was slowly slipping away.So she was considering her options of what to do about getting pregnant, when surprisingly her best friend Nate offers to be her sperm donor.
Obviously they decide to create a baby the natural way,and wowsers they have lots and lots of chemistry...and they can't get enough of one another.
But they still remain friends even though they are deeply in love with one another and when Abby finally becomes pregnant Nate is there for it all.
But nothing is simple and there is so much miscommunication with these two,I was so frustrated with them.Instead of just telling eachother how they feel about one another they carry on pretending that everything is like it was before...Even though it is not ,because they continue to be intimate and light those bedroom sheets on fire!!.
I loved Nate and Abby's relationship they were so easy together and knew eachother so well, the only problem was they never talked about their real feelings.
I enjoyed listening to this book it was sexy and romantic, funny and sweet ..I love Samantha Baca's writing and the small towns she creates.
Loved it.

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 I love the small-town restaurants and things. Take me to the Rockin’ Rooster.
🤩 I love the beginning so much and the tropes: best friends to lovers, sperm donor.
🤩 I do love the MCs, especially the fun steamy scenes. Teaser: “Why?” “To keep my swimmers swimming. Now lift.”
🤩 Holiday surprise.
🤩 Firefighters—the best do-gooders.
🤩 Text chats for some good communication.
🤩 I love a little jealousy to get things moving. I actually think the first little bit of love triangle worked on me, giving me feels other than annoyance.
🤩 I do feel the longing for these two to love each other fully.
🤩 I’m so interested in these side characters and definitely want more Beaumont Creek. I think I might read the next book with my eyes rather than the audiobook (I’m pretty picky about audiobooks these days).
🤩 Thanks to the author for the gifted special edition paperback.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 Chapter Fifteen Nate—I wish it was a male narrator. I do really like this female narrator, but I wish there was a male narrator too.
💫 Maybe just not enough plot, not super interesting.
💫 The timing was off for me at times with the weird sexual moment when I didn’t even think they were being intimate and the fart leading to the weird kinky moment.
💫 The double love triangle kind of put me over the edge of annoyance.
💫 And the not communicating definitely put me over the edge.
💫 I like the side characters, but there’s a bit too much of Jane and Capshaw—I just need a tiny teaser to get me interested in possible future characters.

I've been wanting to pick up Ms.Baca's work for quite some time now. As soon as i saw a post for this book while on social media, it caught my eye right away. I knew i had to read it first! I picked it up and got right into the Beaumont Creek world! I enjoyed this story so much!

Abby and Nate's journey pulled me in right from the start! These two have been best friends since they were kids. As Abby turns forty she can't help but take a look at her life and most importantly the dream of becoming a mother. When Nate wants to help make her dream a reality, can their friendship remain the same? Or are some sparks not meant to be ignored?

From their friendship to their blushworthy chemistry, i thoroughly enjoyed Abby and Nate's story! I really liked how both characters were so relatable. I was so glad that i got to dig deeper with them as well. I couldn't wait to see how they'd tackle things, especially when it came to their hearts. I felt so much with these two all throughout their story!

It was so fun getting into the Beaumont Creek world! I enjoyed what the other characters brought to the story as well!

With Just One Time, Ms.Baca has created such a good read with feels and heat! I am kicking myself for not having picked up her work sooner, but i am so happy that i got to with this book! I am so looking forward to picking up more of her books! I can't wait to dive back into the Beaumont Creek world with the second installment, Second Chances! 💗

Nate and Abby have been Best Friends since kindergarten, but a conversation one day will threaten the dynamic of their friendship and are they both willing to put it at risk.

Abby has just celebrated her fortieth birthday and can here the biological clock ticking away, desperate to be a mother but when you live in a small town the options can be slightly limited on who you can choose to become your baby daddy but until one day mentioning it to her best friend, Nate he suggests something neither of them would have considered.

Nate has secretly crushed on his best friend Abby seen the first day he saw her but has never really gotten up the courage to push out of the friend’s zone, but this would be the perfect opportunity to see where it takes them, one time together and hopefully produce a baby, what could go wrong.

When Abby becomes pregnant it becomes really and both have feelings which they are afraid of voicing until one day in walks Abby’s ex, Colin and can the perfect world Nate has created come crashing down.

I loved this book; the story was well written, and I was so invested in these characters it was great to read. Abby knew what she wanted and went straight after it and the banter between her, and Nate was a joy to read. I loved the secondary characters of Capshaw and Jane and the pull between them through the book, I hope something happens or they both get a happily ever after.

I can’t wait to read the next book and also see how Abby and Nate got on with the baby.

I really enjoyed this book! Best friend romances are sweet and this one was no different. The author's take in Just One Time was just different enough that it’s something I will remember. It stands out from other books in the genre. The way these characters were written was slightly frustrating at times but you still were rooting for them.
Nate and Abby have been best friends for over 30 years. That’s how they ever saw each other. Unfortunately Abby wants the family and baby she always wanted and turning 40 has brought that need to the forefront. That’s where Nate comes in, they decide to try “Just One Time” to see if he could help her have a baby. What neither of them realized before that though was how much they truly cared for one another. How they actually loved the other more than a friend, but how does one navigate that? Especially when they agreed it would be just one time. So instead they are jealous and stubborn about each other. Keeping their true feelings in because they feel that’s what the other wants. All they want is for the other to be happy.
Now the questions become:
Was it really “Just One Time?”
Did Nate help give Abby what she wants?
Do they ever admit how they truly feel?
I invite you to jump on the rollercoaster ride of emotions these two navigate on this adventure of life. You will be happy, sad, and even mad at them, but feeling those emotions makes for a great story. The author beautifully wrote a standalone best friends romance that didn’t disappoint.

Just one time by Samantha Baca is a story full of romance. The passion in the book pulls you right in.

Turning 40 is not the worst thing that can happen. She can't seem to escape her biological alarm clock, though, and I worry that time is running out. Every day that goes by increases the likelihood that she won't fulfill her lifelong desire to become a mother.

Her mother's frequent unsuccessful attempts to hook her up with any new bachelors in town are enough to spark small-town rumors for months. Her bossy and overly critical parent comments never go unheard. Ignore the fact that she attempted to introduce her to the elderly widow who uses a cane and has children close to her age, Old Man Bucky, who lives across the street from her.

This is about the emptiness she's been carrying about for so long that she fears she'll never be able to fill it. Her extraordinarily attractive closest friend is ready and prepared to assist her in realizing her dream of becoming a mother.

There is no one she trusts more, even though it may not be the traditional manner to begin a family. They also decided that it would only take place once. Whatever happens, they go with their friendship unbroken. She is aware that this is going beyond the bounds of friendship, but this is her one chance.

Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique romance story. The story really brings passion into your life. I couldn’t put the book down.

JUST ONE TIME By Samantha Baca

Abby and Nate have been best friend's since abby wore underwear with days of the week written on. Now they both are 40 with Abby's biological clock ticking, she asks Nate for Just one time for a simple task.

😊What i liked -

✔ Small Town/Friend's to Lover's/Sexy Firefighter( i hope they have their own trope)
✔ I absolutely loved the way Abby and Nate got each other, how attuned they were to each other (but not when a stupid misundertsnading takes place)
✔ Their chemistry was AAAMMMAAAZZINGG (sorry for the caps but it actually was).
✔ I instantly connected with Abby's character (personal reasons like clock ticking).
✔ Loved the cuteness of their friendship, love, sexiness of Nate and even the unnecessary drama which was necessary by the way to get their heads out of their a** (sorry about the language).
✔Even though i loved their banter, but the banter between Capshaw and Jane was hilarious.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ If these book boyfriend's were'nt so damn perfect.

📚Who Should read :
👶 Beginner's
💞Romance Lover's
 💖 Friend's to Lover's
👨‍🚒Sexy Friefighter Trope (making it one there isn't one already)

📈My Rating : 4/5

P.s - If you are near 40 with a biological clock ticking please for god's sake do not read this book at night before going to bed. I absolutely loved this book even though i cried about my own biological clock.

Thank you to the author for a copy of her book.
