Malcolm Beck, a San Antonio, TX resident, is brilliant and his book proves it. He talks about experiments and how they set them up and what resulted. The most amazing one is the fire ant deterrent that works (and he gives you the recipe). Most of the "chapters" are 2-3 page essays. The three main topics in the book are soil building, planting and growing, and critters (pests and friends). If you want to read a classic gardening book that will inspire you to do it smarter -- this is it.
