Lis Stone After escaping another disastrous internet date, I am done with dating. I’ve just landed my dream job as the head chef for Vancouver’s premier wedding venue, Blue Vista Events. I don’t have time to date. But my sister has other plans, dragging me to a bar, and forcing me to promise that if a “smoking hot guy” asks me to dance, I’ll say yes.
Enter Spencer Cole.
The man is gorgeous, funny, and he can dance. An instant connection ignites, leading to a one-night stand that leaves me craving more.
Then I discover he’s the event coordinator for Blue Vista, so I end it before it begins. I have a hard No dating co-workers. I’ve worked hard to get where I am in my career, and I refuse to let a man derail me. Again.
Spencer Cole From the second I see Lis Stone, every other woman disappears into the background. After one steamy night and one perfect date, I’m our connection is natural and hot and real. My instincts have never steered me wrong before, and they’re telling me that Lis is the woman of my dreams. Dreams I begin to realize I’ve ignored for the better part of a decade.
When she pulls away, I assure her we can still be friends. As our connection deepens, I start to make the changes I need to build the future I want. A future where Lis features in the starring role.
Now I just need to convince her. Why does it have to be me or the job? Why not both?
When I picked up this cute book with this cute cover, I surely was not expecting spice almost immediately when it was opened. The spice surely did not fail to deliver. However, it set up Spencer and Lis to have the absolute best chemistry I have read in a book in a hot minute. It didn't feel forced or fake, it actually felt like I was reading chemistry that could be real if they were actual people.
This has a personal favorite trope in it of a why choose, but not with multiple men - rather is she going to choose him... or her dream job? We love a woman dedicated to her career. So when Lis finds out that her amazing one night stand with potential to become a partner is actually one of her new coworkers (and eventually she finds out bosses) - what is she going to do?
Spencer is determined to respect her boundaries but also can't help but falling in love with her. (Queue Can't Help Falling in Love but the Ice Nine Kills version, because I kept picturing him as Spencer Charnas while I was reading this book.) I mean, he calls her firecracker. He thinks about her dog when making plans with her. He platonically goes and meets her parents. Come. On.
I devoured this book. I loved this book. I am 100% going to reread this book at some point when I need a palette cleanser after a bad read, or a very dark read. This will stay on the roster as a safe read because it contains the type of love that I love to see.
I mean... "I see you, firecracker. It doesn't need to be one or the other. You can have both. You can have everything." COME ONNNNN, THIS MAN!
Any who, I can't wait for the next Blue Vista Crew book. Because I will devour it like a large fry from McDonalds - so fast it's like I have a superpower.
I didn’t have a lot of time to read in the past month but everytime I had some spare time, the first thing that I wanted to do was read this book 📚
The characters are memorable which made me get back into the book easily. I dont want to spoil anything but all I have to say is that the two main characters are super relatable (both have had trauma in their lives that affect them differently but they still wanna be there for each other wether things are going good or bad). I also love the banter between Lis and Spencer, it seems effortless and fits the characters perfectly.
All in all, I really recommend this book. Wether you want to read it in a day, a week or even a month, you will not forget Lis and Spencer’s love story 💖
“Why Not Both?” brings an exciting twist to the friends-to-lovers trope, with plenty of humor, misunderstandings, and heartfelt moments. Sarah Neeson writes with a fresh and witty style, making this story a breezy, feel-good read. The dynamic between Lis and Spencer is genuine, and their chemistry keeps the pages turning. Fans of contemporary romance with humor will really enjoy this first installment of the Blue Vista Crew Series! -- I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Let's start saying that I want a Spencer in my life (sorry my dear husband), he is a big, nerd and hot green flag who knows how to dance, what's not to love!
Lis meets Spencer after her last disaster date and deleting a dating app from her phone. Thanks to her twin sister and her girlfriend she is having drinks with them and agreeing to say yes to the first man to come and ask her to dance. That first man is Spencer, and some dances and kisses later they go to his place and have a great and spicy night and a date in the morning. Both of them are curious about their chemistry in and out of the bedroom but come monday she finds out he is a works as an event planner in her new work as a head chef.
She got fired in the past for having a workplace romance so she is not risking her dream job for a man, even for a man as special as Spencer. He accepts her decision but tries to charm her being just her friend and showing her how well they could be in a relationship because cares for her and thinks she can have both her dream job (because there's no policy about workplace relationships in their company) and him.
I loved their banter about quotes and films, how Spencer is obsessed with her since the first time, Cerberus the corgi, all the side characters as Spencer's friends and Lis' family.
The only thing I would chance is all the time Lis has Spencer waiting for her to catch up, but in the end that time makes him grow up and be really prepared to be all in with her.
I'm really excited to read the next book about Derek and his second chance.
This is the first book I read by this author and I was not disappointed.
Why Not Both" by Sarah Neeson kicks off her new series and is an engrossing read that's hard to put down. The writing is excellent, and the characters are truly captivating. Lis, fed up with dating apps, has given up on finding love. However, a night out with her sister leads her to meet Spencer, who has recently ended a relationship. While out with friends, Spencer encounters Lis and is immediately drawn to her. As their connection deepens, they begin to wonder if there might be something special between them. When an unexpected complication threatens to drive them apart, love tries to bring them back together. This fast-paced, enjoyable book comes highly recommended.
📜Quick Summary: Lis swears off dating. She’s going to focus on her new job, and swear off men, since the last relationship didn’t go as planned. Her sister, of course, has other plans, and one night out, says she has to dance with whichever hot, sexy man approaches her. Enter Spencer Cole… He happens to be at said bar and after chatting it up with his friends, approaches Lis. Things take off… and I mean REALLY take off from night one. Enter spice zone! When she finds out he works at the same place as her, things come to a halt. Can she keep him in the friend zone?
❣️Initial Feels: Well, this takes off in the first couple chapters! Their attraction was hard for me to fully believe, since it all happened SO fast… but somehow I got sucked into their story!
🙋🏼♀️Moving Character: Eeeekk… okay I really enjoyed both of their characters and their storylines… but I think I have to give it to Spencer. Spencer did not have the perfect upbringing, and his self confidence, but also self love, still thrived. I enjoyed his growth journey, and how he stuck by his choices.
📖Read if you want: a first in a romance series, hot and steamy scenes, workplace romance, slowwwww burn that makes you fly through the pages
💡Final Sentiments: At first, I really didn’t know if I would like it. I couldn’t believe how fast they fell for one another, it seemed impossible to me (and I’m not against romance!) but then they started developing their friendship and all of a sudden, I was rooting for them like I was cheering for the Chicago Cubs! I felt like the side characters were also very realistic, and this novel wasn’t too far out in left field. It felt very real to me. I am excited for the second novel!
🌟Overall Rating: 4.5 stars

I love love loved this book! The spice is just right, the slow burn is paced perfectly, and the tropes are executed without being cheesy or unrealistic.
Lis is a strong FMC with realistic traits and ideas towards love and life. She strives to be a great chef and is so close to being exactly where she wants to be and doesn’t want to mess that up, thus her dilemma with pursuing a relationship with Spencer. She isn’t wishy-washy because she knows what she wants, she just needs to figure out how to make those things mesh together.
So I’m a sucker when it comes to a patient MMC that’s willing to wait for the FMC while she figures things out on her own, and Spencer does exactly that. He gives Lis her space when she needs it, but he also knows when and where to pursue things in order to keep things moving between them.
All the side characters and the Blue Vista fam are great, only adding to the story and never taking away from it. They’re all there for each other through thick and thin which I love.
My favorite thing about this book is how it never takes you out of the story. I was never tripped up and taken away from the story by anything completely unrealistic.
Tropes I loved in this book: - Workplace romance - Found family - No third-act-breakup - He waits for her
This was my first experience reading something by this author. The story is a blend of ambition, passion, and heartache that simmers into a captivating romance in this heartwarming novel set against the picturesque backdrop of Vancouver. From the very first page, I was drawn into Lis's world—a world where past disappointments in love collide with the excitement of landing her dream job as a head chef at Blue Vista Events.
Spencer Cole is the charming, confident event coordinator who sweeps Lis off her feet during one unforgettable night. Their chemistry is undeniable, sparking both on the dance floor and beyond. But this isn’t just a fling. As the layers unfold, so do the stakes: professional boundaries, personal ambitions, and deep-seated fears about vulnerability and sacrifice.
Lis is fiercely independent, relatable in her desire to protect the life she’s worked hard to build. Spencer, meanwhile, is refreshingly earnest—a man ready to reshape his life for love without asking her to compromise who she is.
Their journey from lust to love is filled with witty banter, tender moments, and the kind of emotional growth that makes for a deeply satisfying romance.
A smart, sexy, and heartfelt romance that had me rooting for Lis and Spencer long after the final page.

Why Not Both? by Sarah Neeson is the first book I have read by the author and had the honor of reading an advanced reader copy.
Lis meets a wonderful man and immediately has a fire connection and a steamy night with him to find out that he’s actually one of her new coworkers. She has a personal rule not to get involved with anyone she works with because of a traumatic office romance in her past. Spencer is sure about Lis from the moment they meet and decides that if he can’t have her romantically, then he’ll have her as a friend and worm his way back into her heart.
I have high standards for men but Spencer skyrocketed those standards to another atmosphere. He’s a really great, maybe too perfect, book boyfriend.
I had a lot of awe that’s sweet moments and there were some laugh out loud moments. There’s scorching chemistry and then just lovely chemistry between Lis and Spencer.
Written very well! I love a well written book. There were times when I did think that there could have been more oomph during the times when they weren’t together. But that could just be reader preference (I’m impatient for slow burns).
I highly recommend this! No cliffhanger. It is a standalone 💜
I received a digital ARC of this book. This is my first time reading the author. Lis just had the WORST first date ever, so she deletes her dating app and swears off dating. Her sister and gf drag her out on the town anyway and make her promise that if a hot guy asks her to dance, that she will. Fine, but it won't happen. Spencer has gone through enough ugly break ups to swear off women, but then he spots Lis across the bar and can't stop looking. They share an amazing night together.... both hopeful it will last.... but then Lis shows up to her dream job and Spencer works there. Dealbreaker. She doesn't do workplace romance, she's been burned badly in the past. But, can she really resist Spencer? Why can't she have the dream job and the dream man? I did not want to stop turning the pages. As a woman, I definitely understood the hesitation on Lis' side, but at the same time, when you find a unicorn of a man, you don't let him go!!! Can Spencer convince Lis to give them a chance? Or will she figure it out too late, Spencer is a rare find, and women are constantly throwing themselves at him... you'll have to read to find out. Trigger warnings: parental death (in the past), explicit sex scenes, Lesbian side storylines, and parental neglect.
A first in series romance with past mistakes, good friendships, self-reflection and a cute dog. Lis is a chef that just landed a dream job and is taking a break from dating after some disastrous dates and a relationship that cost her a job. Spencer is happy being an Events Coordinator in a business that he and his best friends started. When these two meet at a bar they both feel like they could be each other’s forever. Unfortunately, past mistakes lead to a decision to “just be friends” and so a friendship blossoms even though they both yearn for more. As they both deal with inner turmoil, will they realize that the past can only affect your future if you let it and sometimes, it only takes a moment to know how special someone will be to you. I enjoyed this well-written book and the characters. They had good chemistry with some spicy scenes and the friendships and family were great additions to the story. The story ended with a hint of what the next book in the series is about and I look forward to it and returning to these characters as well. Overall, a good read and will be added to my TBR list. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I picked this up mainly because I wanted to try out a novel by Sarah Neeson, who is a fellow Canadian from my area, and I’m so glad I did!
This book was bookended by two well-done s*x scenes. The first was a shock to find in Chapter 2, moments after the main characters meet each other in a bar. It isn’t until the last few chapters we finally get another s*x filled scene, but the entire book we are teased by the incredible tension created between the main characters.
I will say this story seemed a bit “too good to be true” being that both characters are basically stereotypical perfection, and are perfect for one another but that surprisingly didn’t turn me off this book as I initially thought it would. My initial vibe of Spencer was that he was sort of creepy because he came on SO strong and was telling Lis he missed her after barely knowing her name for like 15 minutes. I got over that pretty quick, he just seemed PERFECTLY charming. And I let it be what it was!
I enjoyed the side characters, some of who I am delighted to find have their own novel in this Blue Vista series by Neeson. I have already requested the next book at the library!

Sparks fly when Lis and Spencer meet. After an incredible night together, the two plan to see where this attraction may lead him. But when Lis discovers that Spencer is the co-owner of the new company she works for, she immediately friend zones him. She had a bad break up that caused her to lose her job in the past, and she doesn’t want to jeopardize her dream job. Spencer is willing to wait for her because she’s his person, but will he be able to convince Lis to go all in?
I had a lot of fun with this novel. Spencer is charming and kind and really respects Lis’s boundaries. Their banter is really cute, and I loved how they would guess movie quotes. It really added something special and unique to their relationship. Lis was a wonderful female character. Hardworking and dedicated to her job. This is a slow burn, and it was really well handed. Lis and Spencer spend time together as friends and build trust with each other. I loved watching their friendship grow. As Spencer said, it was the foundation they built their relationship on.
This is a low angst, spicy read with likable characters and great side characters. I’m excited for the next book in the series!
After a string of bad online dates, Lis swears off dating for a while...unless she meets the love of her life. And that is Spencer's cue to walk over to her table. Less than 48 hours of bliss comes crashing to a halt when Lis starts her first day of her dream job and once again, Spencer walks in as one of the managers. Lis knows how it'll look if they have a relationship so she friend zones him hard, breaking both their hearts in the process. But Spencer, while respecting her decision, is not willing to give up on proving that dating him would never impact her job.
Ugh I could not put this book down. Spencer is just the sweetest ever (outside of one room of the house 😉) and Lis is a spitfire when the people she loves need it. I love a book where the MMC falls fast and falls real hard and it's even better when his friends start commenting on how obviously gone he is. This book has plenty of that too. Plus secret signals, movie reference challenges, allowing your significant other (even if they haven't admitted how significant) to drag you along on their favourite activities and ALL THE FEELS!!!!! Also, I totally need the recipes to all the goodies Lis makes in this book because everyone seems to love them!
tropes: found family, he falls first, workplace romance
opinion:
i find this book a very light-hearted read which i managed to complete in less than 24 hours, it's that fun and wholehearted.
there are a few thoughts i initially felt while reading the first few chapters such as, "oh, this feels a little fast?" and "there's a lot of characters.." BUT, but those thoughts quickly dispersed after giving a few more chapters a chance.
lis and spencer's relation felt a little fast and up until first quarter, when spencer would shower lis with a lot of affection through act of service and physical touch early on of their relation. however, their relation slowly warmed up to me from only feeling their chemistry as friends to potential lovers and i also feel the tension between them at the workplace too, ahem. i love the other characters as well, they all definitely have their own lore and i can't wait to read the rest of the books of this 4-book series to continue surround myself with them!
the ebook is an ARC for a voluntary honest review by booksirens.
Why Not Both? was such a cute, fun read with alternating POVs and two delightful characters. I loved the setting of having them working in a company that runs weddings, and it was so cute how seeing all the love around Lis and Spencer brought them together. Spencer’s friend group is so warm and I can’t wait to see the rest of the series from Sarah Neeson moving forward!
I loved how Spencer was willing to be so patient with Lis and to listen to her needs. He was down BAD for her- didn’t even notice her IDENTICAL twin sister- but he was willing to wait for her to be comfortable taking a chance with him. There’s nothing better than a man who falls first, and this was done so well.
I really loved reading this book. I sped through it in one sitting and am dying for more of this world and these characters. The world was warm and gentle and all the best things in a sweet romance novel. If I could read the next book, Why Not Now?, today, I would!!!
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by BookSirens. The opinions expressed are my own.
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘉𝘰𝘵𝘩? by Sarah Neeson had me hooked from start to finish! Lis finds herself at a bar after a cringey date where she meets Spencer. Sparks immediately fly when they end up dancing together. Their night together is passionate and full of promise.
Things get complicated when Lis starts her new dream job as the head chef at Blue Vista Events in Vancouver. She discovers that Spencer is the events coordinator as well as her boss’s best friend. Due to prior experiences, Lis is wary of dating coworkers and insists that things should be professional between them. They can just be friends instead.
Spencer is head over heels for Lis and believes she shouldn't have to choose between her job and a relationship with a coworker. He wants nothing more than to pursue a romantic relationship with her but is willing to respect her boundaries while hoping she’ll eventually realize they're perfect for each other.
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘉𝘰𝘵𝘩? is great for fans of love-at-first-sight stories between a strong, stubborn female and a patient, respectful male set in a workplace environment and sprinkled with humor, pop culture references, and fun side characters! It's steamy, sweet, emotional, and impossible to put down! I can't wait to read the next book in this series to see what lies ahead for the Blue Vista crew!
"I couldn't put down 'Why Not Both' by Sarah Neeson. The story follows Lis, who swears off dating until the love of her life appears—enter Spencer. However, their 48 hours of heaven are interrupted when they unexpectedly become coworkers. Despite their strong connection, Lis decides to befriend Spencer to avoid any complications in her new dream job, leading to heartbreak for both of them. What I loved about this book was the endearing character of Spencer, who falls hard for Lis, and Lis, who shows her fiery side when defending her loved ones. The book beautifully showcases their growing romance, with Spencer's friends teasing him about how smitten he is. It's a story that's filled with secret signals, movie reference challenges, shared activities, and heartwarming moments. The inclusion of mouthwatering recipes also adds an extra layer of charm to the story. 'Why Not Both' is a delightful read that will make you feel all the emotions."
I truly loved this book. I give it a solid 4.5 Stars!
*I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily*
This book was a truly enjoyable experience. The story is an easy read, but what really stood out to me was the character development. The growth of Lis and Spencer throughout the book is compelling, even though Lis takes her time coming to terms with her feelings—this made her journey feel all the more authentic.
The storyline is thoughtfully crafted, with the backstories of Lis and Spencer adding significant depth that helps to explain Lis’s fears and Spencer’s strong sense of loyalty. My heart ached for Spencer when Lis began pulling back after fully understanding her contract, which made the happily-ever-after even more rewarding.
The "spicy" scenes are well-placed, enhancing the story without overshadowing it—I’d personally rate them a 2/5.
Overall, this book was a fantastic read, and I’d confidently rate it a solid 5/5.

4 ⭐ 2 🌶️ Tropes: workplace romance, insta love, slow burn, found family
When Spencer and Lis first meet, sparks fly and their connection is instantaneous. After one amazing night together that is DEFINITELY not a one night stand, Lis puts the brakes on their budding relationship when she shows up as the newly hired head chef at Spencer’s event hosting company.
With a history of being badly burned by office romances and a need to focus on her career, the most they can ever be is friends, but Spencer is determined to prove her wrong.
This was such a cute story and a quick, easy read! Ugh, I love Spencer and Lis so much, this book sucked me in right away. I wasn’t really a fan of the whole “furbaby/granddog”, but it wasn’t a big part of the story line.
Things I loved: -Lis is a chef. I didn’t realize how much I love stories where an MC is a chef/cook -Spencer’s found family -The chemistry and banter between Lis and Spencer -Movie/book quote guessing game -🧨🧨
Definitely recommend!
I was provided a copy of this ARC for free and all opinions are my own.
I am so incredibly honored to have received a copy of this book from the author. Why Not Both was such a cute story and it made me feel the feelings like I was watching a Hallmark movie. That is a huge compliment because I absolutely love watching Hallmark movies and they always comfort me and make me so happy. I was hooked from the beginning as soon as Lis had an awful date with a guy asking her to donate her kidney. I then proceeded to read this whole story in one sitting because it was that good. I felt for Lis throughout the story with her struggles and fears. I loved Sebastian so much and his patience with Lis truly stood out to me. It just made me love him more as a character. I also loved all of the co-workers and just how supportive and amazing they all are. I truly hope there are more books going back to this world focusing on the amazing side-characters because this was such a fun and light-hearted read and I loved it.
Coining this book as spicy fluff. The characters were all super nice people which made it easy to root for the romance. BUT I think they were almost too nice. There was no real conflict in the book. The conflict was she didn't want to be in a relationship with him because they worked together, and then they proceeded to act like a couple without any kissing. There was no real tension from the "we can't be together" because they just ignored it immediately when they'd think it. The first few chapters were cringy, but once she actually started the job, it was less but still there. There were also moments that you could see the foreshadowing like with the grandma's ring or the set-up for the next book. The movie quotes were cute. It's a good debut novel.
Thank you to Sarah Neeson, 18 Street Press, and Booksirens for a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
Well-Written, Great Characters, Fun Friend / Found Family Group, with Steam and LOL Moments
I really liked both Lis and Spencer, loved them together, and found the book hard to put down wanting to see what would happen next. It is told from dual POV so the reader understands Lis' fear of committing to dating a coworker/boss comes from her past experiences, and can understand his traumatic family past. Yet, despite the chemistry they are able to build such a strong and supportive friendship which serves as the basis of any good long term romance. And their banter, movie references - Princess Bride!! - was so much fun. I also liked all of the side characters in the friend group and can't wait to read the next story in the series - Enjoy!
I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Why Not Both by Sarah Neeson is quite literally the most perfect regular everyday romance to exist. Omg 🥹 Between prior parental losses, the support from Lis's twin sister, the friendship between Spencer and Vic, the entire storyline and all the other characters, my heart is FULL. AHHHHH! 💕 Such a feel good, cry some tears, then laugh, type of romance book! Also a bonus, the smut was very realistic. Don't get me wrong I love some over the top spice, but this has incredible writing of these scenes! I read this from start to finish in one day! Sarah Neeson, thank you for putting this out in the world! ❤️
⭐5/5 🌶️2/5
⭐"It’s you. It’s going to be you.’ If I had to wait ten years or a thousand, it was always going to be you.”⭐
This book has quickly become one of my favorites, and I'm so glad I decided to give it a chance! From the moment Lis and Sebastian met, I was rooting for them to get together, though the slow burn was a bit frustrating at times.
But I appreciated the way the author developed their relationship and made it clear that both characters had genuine feelings for each other.
Sebastian's patience with Lis was a standout for me, and I loved how he respected her wishes and boundaries throughout.
It was a sweet story that I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun and heartwarming read!
Thank you so much to BooksSirens and the author for giving me this wonderful opportunity of reading and reviewing this wholesome ARC!!! 💗
This book was super cute and fun. I really enjoyed the banter between Lis and Spencer. Sarah did a great job at building that need for more within her chapters with this. I think the spice was spicy enough to keep any reader interested but not overwhelming enough to turn people off. This was a great quick read. Easy to get through because their "friendship" was so fun to follow through out. I loved that He was way more ready than her to make a relationship happen. I really enjoyed that she tried to fight it because of the job. Sara did a great job with this book! Thank you for the opportunity to Early read this. I was gifted an ARC copy and am so glad I chose to read this one!
Why not both? An easy 4⭐️ for me! At first reading through the first couple of chapters I thought it was a little fast unsure if id get frustrated with how the book would carry on. A few chapters later and im HOOKED!! I loved the different characters and their roles, the chemistry between Spencer and Lis, the growth between them as people and friends before lovers. The spice of the book is in my opinion on point for a beautiful light read and it was placed in the perfect places. Im glad this is part of a series I can’t wait to dive into the other characters lives to see what unfolds! Derek & Ava 👀
It is a charming romance that explores the balance between love and career. Lis Stone, a driven chef swore off dating, meets Spencer Cole, a handsome event coordinator at her new job. Their instant chemistry leads to a passionate connection, but Lis’s rule against dating coworkers complicates things.
Neeson captures the tension between Lis’s professional ambitions and her growing feelings for Spencer, who is supportive and determined to make their relationship work. The story is well-paced with witty dialogue and palpable chemistry, making it a delightful read for fans of contemporary romance.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫🌶️🌶️ 💭My thoughts: This book was so cute. It immediately jumped right into how Lis and Spencer meet. I admire Lis a lot. She made herself a rule and stuck by it as long as she could. I found her stubborn and wanted to shake some sense into her but she’s strong and had great willpower, until the inevitable happened of course. Spencer is such a dreamboat 😍 I love that he makes decisions right on the spot and sticks to it. He knew the moment he laid eyes on Lis that she was it for him. He had family trauma and I really like how Lis was the answer for that. It ended beautifully, I couldn’t imagine a better ending. I definitely recommend!
