Revenge was the sort of temptation a master assassin would never succumb to. But when one decides to make an exception things can get very ugly.
Many years had elapsed since Bawb ascended to the ranks of the elite Master Ghalian, but his upward climb was not yet complete. A mysterious hint of greater things to come lingered, but despite his best efforts and all manner of challenges, he was still in the dark as to what exactly that might be.
There was something about a dragon. Something about a mage. But what that meant he had no idea. Little did he know, if he did find out, it would change his life forever.

I am so happy with this ending! I have not read the Bad Luck Charlie books, but this is apparently the back story to Bawb who is part of the adventures of Charlie in those books. I love how Bawb ends up being a connection between the Space Assassin series and the Bad Luck Charlie books. I have no idea if I will like the Bad Luck Charlie books, but I am all for continuing Bawb's adventures, so I will probably check out that series next.
Many years have passed since the third book, and Bawb has been working hard as the Geist, while continuing to keep feelers out about clues to Hozark's murder. Even while making quite the name for himself, he has also continued to do things his own way, which includes his strong friendships with his former classmates, teachers, and of course Henni and Bud, as well as the pirates. I have also loved his friendship with his Konus, and while I still wonder where it came from (I guess this is a mystery we'll never know?), we at least have some clues about its purpose and why Hozark gave it to him in the first place.
I absolutely love Bawb and I think I might like this series even more than the original series with Hozark, but possibly because Bawb was introduced a world I already knew and had grown to love. I highly recommend this series, and while you can read this without reading the other series first, I would at least recommend you read the Hozark series first because it does a great job introducing us to the world.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from BookSirens. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow that was a read!! This series was an amazing and wild ride! Bawb’s story from a scrawny young scared boy to the highest level of elite-assassin-vampire-warrior across the galaxies was amazing. The wonderfully crafted characters, life or death stakes, incredible world building in the many people groups as well as the planets and galaxies that are seen throughout draw you in keep you reading far too late into the night. Usually sci-fa isn’t my sort of genre but this made one of the few exceptions.
Nearly every element in this series was outstanding. But because of my personal beliefs I didn’t appreciate the language and the way the characters morals and how they viewed certain things. Thus taking away a star.
Content: there was some language. Romance there’s fade to black. And casual talk of s*x but nothing explicit. The MC often visits taverns and such places with drunken residents to gather information but doesn’t himself get drunk. With the MCs being assassins and pirates there’s assassinations, battles, theft, bloodshed, and such.

Scott Baron has written quite a few books and I learned Bawb features in another series about Charlie and the dragon. This explains a gripe I had about this series as a large part of the dramatic tension is removed as we know in advance Bawb survives the mortally perilous situations the author dreams up. I remain impressed by the author's imagination, but felt rather cheated because the Dragonmage part of this title was not revealed until almost the end of the book. I also felt several of the assinations Bawb was tasked with were rushed in their climaxes and some of the escapes were lacking credibility.
At the end (maybe it should be at the beginning to give fair warning) of this book the author describes how he has dug into Bawb's backstory and warns about spoilers in reading that series featuring the Dragon Mage before another character overlap in the Clockwork Chimera series featuring Daisy. I suggest for maximum enjoyment you start either with the Clockwork series or the books of Bawb - starting at book one - "Assassins' Academy". I enjoyed these epic tales and the hours I spent in the company of the main and supporting cast. I hope you will too as Bawb is shown graduating and ultimately transforming into another set of challenges and role.

The Geist (Bawb) is back, book 4 in this high octane action series! He is now an exceptional master assassin and will he get his wish to become one of the 5? Although his fellow classmates are now scattered to various locations, there is interaction and assistance with some, along with some favourite teachers, who now form an almost family unit in this very solo existence. Starting with an impossible assassination, leading to a new clue in the hunt for Hozark's killer, the tale continues through a myriad of assignments through to a surprising conclusion. His Konus has just 2 icons left, leveling up to be one of the 5 and the other hidden, what could it be! All will be revealed, but you will have to read the tale to discover all. If you enjoyed the last 3, this will definitely not disappoint and will leave you wanting more. As I was reading I was feeling sad that Bawb's adventures would be no more, but I will not spoil the surprise!!

A highly skilled assassin with a conscience I absolutely loved this series. The writing is smooth and flows well, the characters all have enough depth to them that the reader can make a connection with them. As a full fledge assassin, Bawb now handles missions on his own, no more formal training, but he is always learning, whether from his own experiences or from others. Bawb is the most open minded character, he knows that to accomplish his missions, some are personal and some are assigned, he must go in with his full attention and with all the details he can gather to fulfill his missions. He must prevail or die. There is so much action, twists and turns and a wonderful range of serious and humorous dialogue. highly recommend to read this series which should be read in order. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
This was an outstanding piece of work. I admit I had a very tiny doubt about how the author would be able to tie up loose ends from this series, in order to seamlessly join to the next. I needn't have worried.
I don't want to say too much, as you need to read this for yourselves and I really don't want to spoil your enjoyment in any way. This is NOT the end for Bawb.
I have loved this series, and I always loved reading about Bawb. I think I'm going to have to re-read 'The Clockwork Chimera', 'The Dragon Mage', and 'Space Assassins' series by Mr Baron as I enjoyed them so much. Absolutely wonderful writing!
I chose to read an ARC of this work, which I voluntarily, and honestly, read and reviewed. All opinions are my own. My thanks to the author and BookSirens. (I pre-ordered the book anyway!)
Bawb is a Master Ghalian now, having risen through the ranks swiftly through hard work and dedication. He is one of the most trusted among their ranks and, as such, is chosen for missions that others would deem impossible. And yet, there is still more to do, more to learn. Not all of the skills in his Konus have been unlocked. At least, not yet.
An amazing end to an amazing series. Or is it the end? Turns out this is a prequel of sorts. This series feeds into the Dragon Mage series, so the adventures will continue!

This is the… end? No! It is the end of the beginning. There are a dozen related books with our protagonist. Bawb has plenty more to bring you, readers. Scott has done a great job at balancing closing out this arc with not spoiling his other titles. If you love Bawb, the things you're looking for are here. Revenge, improbable assaults, battles on both grand scales and one-on-one. Friends and enemies, magic and melee. A satisfying read that feels like cozying up with an old and particularly violent friend for his particular brand of mayhem.

Overall I quite enjoyed this series. But for me the ending seemed rushed and sort of disconnected. Also, I didn't understand why I was expected to belive that Bawb was this cold hearted killer who didn't know how to offer comfort to a scared woman when for the course of the whole series we've been told he had vast emotional reserves. Since completing this series I've read the 1st couple books in the Bad Luck Charlie series. This shows the ending in a much more complete way. And I figure they transformed Bawb into an emotional midget so there might be continuity between the end of Book of Bawb and the beginning of Bad Luck Charlie while not giving too many spoilers for Bad luck Charlie. Personally, I would have preferred the spoilers to Scott trying to convince me Bawb was the stereotypical emotionless Assassin, who can only empathise with the womans plight because of the 15 seconds he's spent with Charlie n' em
I received an advanced readers' copy in exchange for my honest opinion
This whole series has been perfect! You get to see a different perspective from the other story line, and then the prefect intersection. And I can't say to much without giving away some spoilers, but if sometime down the line we got a series on Ballamore's water and showdown I would not be sad
Well I have come to the end of the Book of Bawb series. I thought they were a great read. This means I have sadly finish all the Charlie books and the Daisy books so I guess that’s the lot. They were a brilliant read and I will be keeping an eye out for more from Scott Baron. Thank you Scott.
This felt like a collection of short stories, which do not stitch together at all. It's a sad end to great series.
Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap.
I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
Having read the four book series two things made for an enjoyable read. First, the characters were nicely developed and fit together without needless verbage. Second, rather than a long tedious story there were numerous short stories/adventures that hung together nicely and kept one’s interest. Nicely done Mr. Baron. I will now go on to another of your series.
Wow. I love this series. Nonstop action all the way. Watching Bawb grow into the Geist is awesome. Can’t wait to see his journey continue. I preordered my copy but I was also lucky to receive an advanced review copy for free so that I could leave a review to support the author.
This was the best story in the early Bawb series. The rise of Bawb and what he can accomplish are incredible. Really, we can see there will be lots of changes for him. The book had amazing action sequences and lots of logic puzzles.
Splendid just simply splendid. This has been a wonderful series and I look forward to reading more from Mr. Baron. At his recommendation I'm off to see what is going on with a girl named Daisy. Cheers.
I have read all of this author’s book series involving Barb, Charlie, Daisy, Zara and the rest of the cast. All wonderfully enjoyable books. I will read them all again at some point in the future. You will definitely enjoy reading all of them!
Great ending to the series. Love how it connects to the bad luck Charlie series. Overall a great ending for the series, and prequel to bad luck Charlie.
This is a fantastic series, and this book is the perfect end to it. Bawb has so far led an extraordinary life. He’s made lifelong friends, earned the respect of everyone he meets, and hones his skills until he is the most dangerous of his kind. I did wonder how the author would tie up this series, and Bawb’s journey this far, but this far exceeded my expectations!
Bawb is a now master Ghalian! In fact he has been for many years. During that time he has built a reputation as the Geist and a large number of contacts outside the order. Although he takes his duties VERY seriously, he has never given up in his twofold quest; one, to find Master Hozark’s killer and, two, to find his missing Vorpal blade. This story shows that Bawb still has his pesky emotions which had his teachers wondering if he would be too soft to be an elite assassin but, they are now totally under his control. In fact he is accepted as THE best of all Ghalian, including the Five. But it appears that feelings are held by others too. Those of his classmates in particular. Henri and Bub of course and even some of the Five. The Ghalian don’t show emotions but they are all there to Bawb when he needs them, and yes, even the great Geist needs friends at times. As usual, there is a lot going on with Bawb and we follow him as he takes on impossible job after impossible job. But for him to obtain his last goal of becoming one of the Five (as did his father) one of them has to die and Bawb doesn’t want that so he is quite content to wait. During one of his missions he unknowingly meets a seer who gives him a prophecy which she promptly forgets as she comes out of her trance. It is somewhat disturbing but Bawb takes it in stride with the attitude of to be forewarned is to be able to avoid problems. And then, of course, he comes across Charlie. Yes, Charlie who is human. They pass like ships in the night and it is years before they meet again but oh, what a meeting! What a crescendo of an end! Just brilliant! The last book of Bawb. 😢 But all good things come to an end but sometimes continue in a different guise. We have been promised, so let it be!
Assassin: Dragonmage is book 4 in The Book of Bawb by Scott Baron. I think that the last book in a series is hard. Everything has to be finished and I want to be happy with the conclusion. I found book 4 to be fabulous. The author has written so much action while Bawb has steadily grown with every book in the series. I thought that Mark Baron has written a SiFi/ Fantasy/ Thriller that I found the ending left me happy. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
