Nights #1

Noches en París (Nights nº 1)

Rate this book

★★★★ ½! Parisian Nights, book 1 of 3. Paired to do an assignment two opposite attract for a night of kink in Paris they must forget!

“We’re crazy for each other, and I’m hard as a rock for you.”

Previously released as separate novella serials, about 3 different couples, the full length box sets have been combined to a new series, Nights.

Books in the Nights series are stand-alones, but most enjoyed if read in order:
Book 1: Parisian Nights (Previously Lightning, #1-3)
Book 2: Promised Nights (Previously Calling Me, #1-3)
Book 3: Indigo Nights

Parisian Nights (stand-alone book 1) is very much an opposite attracts and a dislike-to-love romance.

Haven Daniels has worked hard to become a successful reporter. Along the way her ambition and OCD has alienated and isolated her from most of her surroundings. She is not too happy when she gets assigned to work with photographer and born-with-a-silver spoon-in-his-mouth Jake Harrison, Harry.

She could not be more wrong. Sure Jake drives the right car, sports the perfect girlfriend and breezes through life. But there I so much more to him which Haven will reluctantly discover on a trip to Paris when he takes charge of her orgasms.

Their romance is littered with contemptuous sex, misunderstandings, fun bantering, sweet moments and of course two hard-headed individuals set on forgetting their night in Paris...

Seven words to describe Jake Harrison, Harry: Charming, reflective, honest, focused, laid-back, apprehensive and private .

Seven words to describe Haven Daniels: OCD, ambitious, hard-headed, snarky, insecure, smart and observant.

Parisian Nights, told from dual POVs, has the right blend of hilarious situations, sexxxy times, angst and romance. I might have wished Jake a little more of an alpha fighting for Haven, but at the same time it allowed for funny moments and it gave room for Haven to grow, mature and find herself.

I would welcome an extended epilogue further into their future, but I suspect we will catch glimpses of them in next-coming books about siblings and friends. Up next is Haven’s brother and best friend in book 2, Promised Nights.

Feel-good! Sexy! Well-developed characters! Great side characters too!

“Jesus that got me hard as steel. The way she struggled, then submitted like that. As if I had real power over her, when in reality, she totally owned me.”

This is the first time I am reading this author and I really enjoyed it! I’m a little confused on if this is a series or it was a series and now she combined them? I’m not sure but it did not end on a cliff hanger. It was completed in my opinion.
You get to meet Haven and Jake in this book that is set in the UK. They are working on a project for work and you are able to go on their journey of trying to find love. There are Lots of ups and downs for this couple so you need to read it to find out if they get a happily ever after.
If you enjoy work place romance or contemporary romance with a little bit of drama this will be a book you will enjoy. I really did enjoy this book and all the characters. The main characters and the secondary ones were really easy to fall in love with. 4 stars!

This is not like the authors first serial... The writing is incomplete feeling and a bit immature for late 20 something's. No laughs either. I found the story predictable and boring. The dialogue much the same. I'll probably give the author another try at some point because I really enjoyed her previous serial.

**PART 1**

What the lightning sees……...is………….

……..Haven and Jake...Jake and Haven…

The minute I found out about this new series by Louise Bay I got excited. I got extremely excited, because I knew this would be epic. The Empire State Trilogy was absolutely amazing, so this new series from Louise had to be amazing, as well.

And judging by the first book, I was right!

And I love it when I am right!!

Let’s start with the characters..

Haven is such a fun character! I loved reading about her, loved reading about her reactions and her way of thinking! And needless to say that I absolutely adored the things that kept stumbling from her mouth!

Jake is the good guy that has it all! The guy you want to date, the guy you want to be friends with, the guy every other guy wants to be. And he can handle the crazy, that’s for sure!

I loved reading about them meeting each other, about them getting closer to each other, etc.. I simply loved reading about them!

I should say that Louise could have omitted the last paragraph of Jake’s POV in this book, because it would become more interesting that way. But, even in that case, Jake is such a good guy that no one would believe he was a jerk to Haven. Anyway, it could have become more interesting.

What the Lightning Sees Part 1 is an great beginning to an exciting new series that will keep us entertained, mesmerized and interested to the end!

The story is refreshing and original and it seems like something completely different from any other book. Louise Bay has created and developed another beautiful story that will keep us on our toes, not wanting the story to end.

I guarantee you that you will LOVE this and that you won’t be able to take it out of your minds!
You will look forward to the sequel and the sequel after that!

This is a story you DO NOT WANT TO MISS!!

Louise Bay did it again! And I am so freaking excited that I were part of this tour!!

What the Lightning Sees : Part 1 receives 5 Amazing Stars, because it simply couldn’t any better!!!

**PART 2**

Another amazing sequel by the talented Louise Bay!

I am telling you: She is the Queen of Serials!!!

One word that could fully describe this part is fulfilling.

We saw emotion, tears, laughter, incredibly almost ridiculous situations, immense heat and fear.

It’s so short; yet, so complete! We travel along with it, following the characters and their lives, just like we would in a TV show. It looked and felt real and tangible.

Not to mention it is extremely unpredictable! You won’t see anything happen! It will keep you locked on your seats!

Haven grew in this part. She found her strength, her beauty inner and outer. She found herself in this volume and I was so happy to see it happening!

One of the many things I loved about his one is that help came from somewhere unexpected, from an external factor that you never predicted. It was help that Haven needed but hadn’t realized it yet.

Because sometimes, we need a fairy Godmother to show us the way!

Because sometimes, we need a handsome and caring man to love and support us.

And unfortunately, sometimes, luck is not with us, not 100%. That was something Jake learnt the hard way in the end.

I’ve got to tell you that the ending had me gasping ‘Oh-no! This can’t be happening!’ and ‘Oh, something tells me he will act like a jerk. Can’t really blame him, but I do some jerk-ish behaviour!’

What the Lightning Sees is a series you must read! It’s fresh, entertaining, sexy and sweet at the same time, invigorating and fascinating!

Louise Bay can do no wrong!

What the Lightning Sees Part 2 receives 5 Amazing Stars!!

**PART 3**

What an amazing end to a truly beautiful story!!!!!!

I have said it before and I don’t know how many times I will continue to say it.

Louise Bay is the Queen of serials!!

Writing serial isn’t easy. You have to know the right moment when you must press ‘Pause’ to your story, the right pace and flow your story must maintain and a different million little things that must be done right. If one thing goes down, everything follows. Each part ought to be intriguing enough for the reader to want to continue to the next part. It’s an intricate balance that the author should keep in order to have a successful and well-written serial. And Louise Bay does it so effortlessly like it is the easiest thing to do in the world. Like she is meant to do just this.

So, I recommend her work, without a single doubt in my mind! The Empire State Trilogy was equally amazing and I adore it! If you like serials, then Louise Bay is your girl!!!

Now, about What the Lightning Sees: Part 3!

First of all, I’d like to say that I loved Part 1 and 2. They were beautifully written, with an elegant and natural flow and great characters! But Part 3? That was mesmerizing! I adored every single page of it. I even started to read slower than I usually do, because I wanted to savor it. I didn’t want it to come to an end, but at the same time, I wanted the happily ever after for these two characters whom I’ve come to love and hold in my heart.

It was a truly beautiful story that I loved and will always cherish, thanks to Part 3! It took the whole serial to another level!!

I loved the fact that we saw the two characters dwell with themselves, trying to solve their problems on their own and together at the same time. They had their own worries and concerns; they were as independent as they were dependent on each other. It was a remarkable thing to see!

I also loved the fact that Haven grew and thrived in this last part. She came to know herself much better and deeper. She discovered herself under a new light, thanks to her. Yes, Jake gave her the push she needed in the first and second part. But it was her strength, her character who took the reins and did what was necessary for her to be happy. She loved Jake but she also learnt to love herself in the process, and it was a marvelous sight!!

So, What the Lightning Sees Part 3 receives INFINITE STARS, because I simply adored it!!

Which means…………..

that the Lightning Series has received 5-Star reviews for each part!

And that means…………

Hurry Up & Buy this serial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, remember what I said about formulaic romances in my review of Not You, It's Me? This is yet another seemingly popular romance that follows the format. The diff between that book and this one is wishy-washy characters. Additionally, the added elements of the awkward BDSM scenes seemed forced and unnecessary and way out of character for the hero, Jake.

I feel like ranting for a second. I liked the FSOG series when it hit the scene 4 or so years ago. I didn't love it, but I will admit I liked it. Why? It certainly wasn't for the BDSM theme that ran through it. It was for its psychological aspect. The reasons behind Christian's need to punish and dominate fascinated me. However, the ultimate changes to his character fostered by his love for Ana were truly the core of the story.

Now we have so many copycat romances hitting the mainstream, getting lapped up by the masses as 5-star reads. A large percentage try to capitalize on the rich-boy/unknowingly-beautiful-girl aspect, and it's become cliche. Some of those feel the need to add in an attempt at BDSM (as in this case with the tying up for the "freedom" it brings to the uptight heroine). For the love of all things holy... stop with the now-cliched formulas.
Authors can have the mechanics down, but without a different storyline, the familiarity just makes the book boring.

I'm convinced this author writes well. My only gripe is with the storyline itself.

Louise Bay is still a pretty new to me author. I like to start with the beginning of the backlist when I find a new author. So, this is definitely an older box set - originally published 2015. Which is why I am still impressed with the characters and the story telling even though it is from that era about a decade ago that really became the spring board to this newer fun angsty style of romance I have come to love!!

This is a series of 3 books, each about a different couple - starts with Haven and Jake. Loved the fun workplace romance, the board meeting intro, the tension, the fun, the game, and of course Paris. Given all that it still had a nice light feel to it! Taking a star off for the final stretch. I didn't like the ex drama at the end, it seemed so predictable and was like a last straw try for another plot twist that just didn't seem necessary. The bonus is that the side characters were heavily featured in this book - so that makes me look forward to the next 2 books even more than your average series!! And plan to enjoy Jake and Haven's HEA!

4 Stars !

Parisian Nights, previously titled« What The Lightning Sees #1-3 », is a beautiful and engaging enemies to lovers story, with a balanced mix of funny interactions , angst and sexy moments.

Haven Daniels’ focus is on her career as editor of the UK’s premier woman’s magazine. She is not pleased when she is paired with photographer Jake Harrison for a celebrity interview. Jake is everything she despises, or so she thinks. She sees him as a spoiled, entitled rich guy, who got the job thanks to his connections. I loved that she was wrong, so wrong. Jake is anything but a dilettante. A successful self-made business owner, he made his money thanks to the sale of his first company.

Haven is a complex character, she hides her vulnerability and feelings of inadequacy with a judgmental and straight-laced attitude. But despite her initial prejudice, Haven’s opinion on Jake slowly evolves in the right direction ! She likes Jake’s attention, and has to admit he always remains nice and positive despite her snide remarks.

Everything will change between them during a stay in the magical city of Paris ! For the first time, Jake wants more than a short lived relationship. He needs to convince Haven to let go and take a risk. But despite their intense chemistry, Haven’s insecurities and Jake’s ex deviousness might get in the way of their happiness. Will Jake be brave enough to fight for what he wants ?

This story was so romantic, with an authentic and believable feel. I loved that Louise Bay’s Night series are interconnected. I hope to read more about Jake and Haven in her other books.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

What can I say about Louise Bay that hasn't be said before? And the best part, she really deserves all the praise. Louise is a brilliant writer and I'm glad that I have been lucky enough to read all her works. Parisian Night is absolutely stunning!

Jake is a walk wet dream. He's not just rich, but smart and witty. He's a talented photographer but just does that for fun. There is so much more to him, but he only shows that to a select few.

Haven is very prim and proper at work, so much so that no really cares for her. Like Jake, she only had two people that know the real Haven. Although she wants to be liked by those she works with, she just doesn't really know what to do to befriend them.

Jake sees something in Haven that most don't and now that she's on his radar, he'll stop at nothing to have her. The more he learns about her, the more he wants to know. She is definitely not a one time and leave 'em kind of girl.

The passion Jake and Haven having is just what the other needs. Their relationship started out unconventionally but through it all they are fighters. They fight for what they believe in, for those they care about, and for each other.

I loved this book so much. Louise brings us a story that has depth, love, and friendship. At the heart of the story is true love and what you will do to keep it. The passion it takes to make a relationship endure is relentless. Although this story ends, you know that Jake and Haven will make it; they have their happily ever after.

I would recommend this series to anyone looking for something deliciously stimulating and sensually provocative.

Parisian Nights is the second book I have read from Louise Bay. She has done it again. I became a fan when I read Indigo Nights. So, I knew I was getting an “erotic dirty read”. On the contrary, I got a “sweet sexy dirty read”.
It doesn’t pack as much heat as Indigo Nights however the sex scenes are sizzling hot and never disappointing. It weaves a sensual take on the classic tale of The Ugly Duckling.
Young, ambitious Haven Daniels has no time for distractions, yet she just cannot resist mysterious photographer Harry aka Jake Harrison. Their first meeting, he calls her a bitch. However, take her away from the day job and she turns into the sexy siren with the long gorgeous hair. They are placed on assignment to do an expose on a famous singer/actress who is familiar with Harry. So, when their posh assignment sends them to Paris, the city of lights and love, he immediately begins plotting to seduce her.
The romance between Jake and Haven is truly not to be missed. Its tender and erotic. Everything Haven judged about Jake was not what it seems. The explosive chemistry between the two was a beautiful thing. He saw underneath the frumpy plain façade she portrays. As their romance blossoms, she becomes more beautiful and self-confident.
Haven’s transformation punches Harry in the heart to appreciate who she really is: a beautiful, carefree and a little intoxicated at times woman he wants to spend his life with.
Parisian Nights is part of an exciting series for the romantic at heart. We highly recommend this pleasurable and enchanting love story with the perfect backdrop of Paris to fall in love with.

This was my first book by Louise Bay and while it didn't make me have crazy feels or anything it was still good. Jake and Haven are co-workers who are thrown together to complete a large project. The author takes you on their journey to find love. There are ups and downs in the book in their relationships, with each other and the secondary characters. You get some drama, some love and even a little bit of BDSM. The characters are well written and easy to fall in love with. They are opposites in a lot of aspects but the author did a great job at making those harsh contrasts compliment each other. The book is fairly predictable which is unfortunate b/c there were lots of place where different things COULD have happened but didn't. I'm still giving this book 4 stars b/c while I had issues with the predictability of it, it was still fairly well written and interesting to a point. This book just isn't necessarily my cup of tea.

Really heavy souls that lighten each other

Jake and Haven have both had such hard, tragic younger years that both have developed hard shells around their true selves. This trilogy showed the beauty that lightened their souls when they opened up to each other and found their hea's.

I did not like this book. First, heroine was immature, childish, whiny. Second, hero was very passive. Third, I do not know, why they were together in first place. Fourth, some plot "twists" were ridiculous.

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

PART 1:
What the Lightning Sees Part One by Louise Bay was fantastic! I loved this first installment to her new novella series, and I honestly can't wait for more! Since this is the first part of three in the series, there is a cliffhanger. The ending left me wanting more, and I cannot wait for Part 2. I am so glad that I read this installment, even knowing that I have to wait for more, as I absolutely loved Jake and Haven together!

When Haven lands a huge story at her work, she knows that it is exactly what she needs in order to help her secure the promotion that she is after. She knows that she isn't well liked at the office, but she is determined to do her job as professionally as possible in order to achieve her goals. But when the new replacement photographer on the story shows up and it is another friend of her boss, she immediately suspects the worst. His friends are always rich and spoiled, and she hates that they have such a sense of entitlement. Things get off on the wrong foot between them, but knowing that they have to work together they form a sort of truce. The more time they spend together though, the more Haven begins to realize that she might have been wrong about Jake and the chemistry between them begins to grow. Soon they are both beginning to see each other in a new light and are wanting to explore the connection between them.

I will admit that I didn't like Haven at all at the beginning of this story. She came off extremely bitchy, and she was so judgmental. But soon we get to see more of her, and there was so much more than just her first impression. I loved seeing her with her best friend and brother, as it gave us a completely new side to her! She wasn't just the uptight and buttoned-up professional, but she was also able to let her hair down and have some fun. I was really glad that Jake got to see it as well, and I liked how he went about flirting with her. Jake wasn't like what Haven had first thought at all, and although he was rich, he had worked for everything he had. He was smart and successful, and I loved that he was determined to continue working though he didn't need to. He was a smart businessman, but he was also a great photographer that was really modest about his work. The chemistry he had with Haven was off the charts, and I loved that he was into her even when she was prickly. He knew just how to get her to shut up when needed, and I liked that he was able to see beneath her facade. He saw so much more in her than most people did at first glance, and I enjoyed seeing these two get to know one another.

Overall, this was a great first installment. The ending left me not only wanting more, but needing to know what would happen next! I loved Jake and Haven together, and I thought that they were perfect for one another. I loved the banter between them, and that combined with the sexual tension was enough to create the perfect build up to their inevitable explosion. There was so much going on between them, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen! I have to say that I am also really intrigued with Haven's brother Luke and her best friend Ash. They are so interesting to me, and I love what I am seeing between those two as well. I really hope that they continue to be such a big part of this story, because I love their relationships with Haven as well as the back and forth they have going on between them. Can't wait to see what happens next for all these characters, and part two cannot get here soon enough! I highly recommend this story, and I think that readers will really enjoy this story as much as I did.

PART 2:
Part Two of What the Lightning Sees picks up right where Louise Bay left us at the end of Part One. If you haven't read part one, make sure that you read that before starting this one as the story continues from one installment to the next. Haven and Jake had been growing closer until Haven heard a conversation between Jake and her boss. Though Jake does his best to explain the situation to Haven, she realizes that he she can't let him continue to get under her skin. She decides to keep things strictly business between them from that point on. But when they get another assignment together, the subject brings forth anger and jealousy and forces them to face the feelings between them. Will Jake fight to get Haven back, or will they continue to try and ignore the connection between them?

I loved Jake and Haven so much in the first book, and for the most part that continued here. I did think that Jake gave up a bit too easily when it came to the trying to get Haven back. I wanted him to fight for her, and I felt like it took him far too long to get to the point that he should have been. He just accepted what Haven told him and allowed her to push him away without really allowing him to explain what had happened or what was going on between them. I wanted him to force the issue a bit more than he did. I also felt like he should have talked to her more about the situation with one of her dates, and why he wanted her to stay away from him. I understood his reasoning and that he had made a promise to his sister, but if he felt like she was in that much of a bad situation around this guy I felt like he should have been able to tell her because that was more important. I did like that Haven didn't change who she was after what she had heard. She remained true to herself and I really felt like that was important. I loved that she was independent and thought for herself, and she didn't allow others to tell her who she should be or what she should do.

Overall, this was a good installment and I am really needing the next installment. As with the first there is a cliffhanger and we are left wondering what will happen next for these two. I did think that there was a lot of angst and push and pull in this one, but I am enjoying the journey for these two. I like them together and I really think that they are good for one another. I am curious what Louise Bay has in store for these two next, and I am really looking forward to seeing how things play out. I really enjoy Louise Bay's writing style, and I think that her stories are well written and entertaining. I am looking forward to not only the next installment, but also to more from her in the future.

PART 3:
Part 3 of What the Lightning Sees picks up where Louise Bay left us after Part 2. Make sure that you have read the first two installments before starting this one since Haven and Jake's story continues from one part to the next. After the huge bombshell that was dropped at the end of part two, Jake is left trying to figure out what he should do. He just won Haven back and knows that this will change everything for not only his life, but the future he is building with Haven. Though he knows things are about to change, he is determined to make things work with Haven and will do whatever it takes to keep her from running. But can Jake and Haven have a future together when faced with their biggest obstacle yet?

As with previous installments, Jake and Haven each had their moments when I loved them and when they drove me nuts. Things were so complicated in this installment, and they had so much to try and deal with. One thing that I absolutely loved though was the progress that Haven had made. When Jake let her know what was going on, I felt like she handled things so well and didn't try to run. She faced them and was the support he needed. She loved him so much and I was glad to see that she had come so far. I felt like she had gained so much strength and maturity, and even when she was hurting she was able to see what she needed to do rather than what her fear and insecurities were telling her. Jake was also struggling with everything, and I felt really badly for him as well. He had so much on his plate and it was easy to see how much it was all weighing on him. I think that he handled things poorly a few times and that there were so many things that he should have seen coming, and yet I also understand that he was just trying to be the great guy that we know he is. I think that he should have fought harder for Haven at times, and I was disappointed that he didn't after everything that had happened in part 2. These two were meant to be together and made one another their best selves, so for him to just give that up without much of a fight was very frustrating to me.

I did like the ending though, and I was glad to see how things worked out for these two. I felt like it was inevitable that they would wind up together, because there was no other option to me. Jake and Haven's journey was far from easy, but I think that everything that they were dealt made them stronger in the long run. They grew as individuals as well as a couple, and I think that the progress they showed was interesting to see happen. Jake and Haven understood one another in a way that no one else did, and their connection just continued to get stronger. They had great chemistry and that never changed throughout the entire story. I will say that I loved the secondary characters in this serial, and I would love to get a story for Jake's sister Beth as well as a story for Haven's brother and best friend! I liked them a lot and would love to see what happens next for each of them. I think that this was a good story overall, and once you start reading these you won't want to stop. Haven and Jake are worth the read, and I look forward to more from Louise Bay in the future.

Interesting story

I will say that the beginning of this took me a little bit to get into now I don't know if it was my mood because I have a mood reader and I wasn't really in the right mood because after I was about 30% in I'd say then the story for me picked up and I really got into the story and I really needed to know how the story was going to play out. I did enjoy the two characters at first I thought she was a little standoffish but that was just kind of the way she came across cuz she really kind of kept that way most of the story until she finally gave in to his love and then she wasn't so much standoffish anymore. I listen to this story actually on audio so I enjoyed both narrators very much.

First of all, Sebastian York could read me Safety Data sheets and I'd listen to every single word and ask for more.

Having said that, Louise Bay does NOT disappoint. I can't think of one book I've read of hers that I didn't enjoy and love. Haven and Jake's story was so wonderful. Finding each other unexpectedly, having a beautiful love develop and then that wrench in it all. UGH. Friggin' Millie.

The spice in this one is really good but doesn't overshadow the story. It's for sure a story with some spice.

Loved, Loved...Made me say Hmm...

This is the story of Jake Harrison and Haven Daniels. Jake a billionaire because of the sale of an app and she worked for a magazine. Jake was a part time photographer so they met at her job when he became a fill in photographer for one of his friends. She didn't like him so much when she first had to work with him. It was because of what she felt rich young men act like not how Jake really was. Loved this book 📚 📖 and would highly recommend this book.

STORY TO SLOW FOR ME

Mizz Louise wrote a good romance, but the storyline was too slow & predictable to me. I loved Haven, Luke & Ash plus they made their little family unit work for them. I hope Mizz Louise writes a romance with Ash & Luke for a Forbidden Fruit Syndrome romance, but this Jack & Haven's story get just 3 fingers up & 8 toes.
