This is book five of The Mistletoe Book Club series and the main characters are Harmony Harris, the manager of Silver Bells Luxury Tours and The Christmas Complex, in Christmas Mountain, Montana, and Liam Bailey, the boss Liam Kline’s estranged brother, who is not quite what he seems. Harmony is trying to get up the courage to ask Adam to make her a partner in the company, something he inherited form his father, but the Christmas Complex had been her own little baby and something she had started and given years to. When Lima turns up wanting to see Adam, she finds him charming, as he jokes about, distracting her as she shows him around, ending up in the Escape Room without the key and he lifts up the snow globe holding the door open. They are locked in and solving the clues leaves Liam falling down a trapdoor and Harmony having to follow him, right into her boss’ attention. It seems Liam is sticking around for a bit and has even hired a home to stay in and wants to work on franchising Adam’s business, in particular, The Christmas Complex! No way does Harmony want her baby to be franchised and now is not going to be the time to ask for a promotion either. Adam wants to take some time and talk about the idea, which hurts Harmony. The only problem is that Liam sees to come up with some great ideas to a couple of problems she has. She had liked him when she first met him, but knowing he wants to franchise the business arm she built, she definitely won’t want to date him.
But fate has other ideas, as he ends up in the house next to her parent’s home, which she and her sister have to prepare and fix up prior to selling it, after their parent’s sudden desire to move to warmer climes. Her bff Amanda seems to be having issues at her massage room at a salon, with a dance class practising right above her room, leaving her clients far from relaxed! Harmony ends up talking to her to try and help her find a solution, instead of talking about her own woes. Now Adam wants her to show Liam the ropes at work, allowing him to see and copy everything she has done for the company. She has lists galore and everything on a timetable to ensure nothing is missed and everything is checked and triple checked. She can’t avoid him at work and soon can’t miss seeing him, as she and her sister Hannah deal with fixing up their childhood home and all the memories it has. Liam hasn’t exactly told her what he did in New York, and she presumes he is wealthy and wants to expand his brother’s business opportunities. That isn’t quite the reason he came to Christmas Mountain and was looking for something different to do. Harmony finally puts her promotion request to Adam, and because of Liam’s idea, it is now going to take him much longer to make any sort of decision! Harmony meets many of the characters in the town at the women only book club, where she in fact finds out some surprising details about her best friend, that shock her a bit. Amanda hasn’t told her any of these sudden events she is trying out or taking part in and that hurts a little but have a great explanation later on.
Liam and Harmony get closer as he follows her at work and insists on the date, he asked her for when they first met, which soon leads to dinner and more. Harmony has been too busy to check in on the book club group chat, so has missed most of this information. He even ends up helping her out in her parent’s home when her sister has to bail, and they start talking about marriage. Her sister’s issues with her husband and thinking of a divorce, compared to their parent’s long and happy marriage, is at odds with Liam’s thoughts of marriage and hers. She thinks her parents never argued or fought, but in reality, that would have been impossible over all the years they have been together. Liam has been damaged by his parent’s marriages and divorces, especially the choices his parent’s made on who he should live with and the separation from Adam, his stepbrother, all these years. Looking through all the memories in the attic makes her sad to throw them away and Liam has to point out that she can make new memories. One of the lovely traditions of making an ornament to place on the Sharing Tree, in memory of someone or making a wish, is repeated in many of the stories and is a wonderful tradition. Liam has shown Harmony so much of himself and showed her his new plans for the future, as he and Harmony get closer, but it leads to a classic error of miscommunication. Not helped by Adam delaying making his decision and Harmony getting worried she could be about to lose her job. She should have paid attention to the holiday magic in the air all around the town named after Christmas itself, with lots of shops using festive names and loads of Christmas cheer. She may have to eat her words when she faces Adam, as well as Liam, having taken what was happening and the delays to heart, in the wrong way. A lovely touch of Christmas and love amongst wonderful scenery and seasonal events. The women of the book club are key to certain discoveries along the way and a great place to discuss books and life!
