This is such a weird series.

The tone is jarring. From goofy over the top villains to brutal murders and rapey scenes. It's so offputting at times, and other times super entertaining. The art can vary from great to crappy. It's so weird the back and forth.

This time we do see Amon lose which is a nice change of pace. Introduces us the main villain and her scummy ways of how to defeat the demon lord. Things move so quickly and so much happens you can NEVER be bored.

Overall, a entertaining volume even if it silly. A 3 out of 5.

I enjoyed the anime because it was so different to others I had seen so thought I would try the manga, the first volume is great. I'm not shocked or put off by sex or violence, I grew up with Wicked City and Monster City and I think this was part of what I loved in the anime, the sordid fucked up visuals with great storytelling and interesting characters definitely appealed to me!

This however descends into boring irritating loli style fanservice that really takes away from the narrative. Like you make Tsubasa make the family think she's their sister and then have a scene where Miki gropes her?!? The female human characters are used as props here a lot and it's frustrating. Miki exists to be rescued and desired.

Disappointing.

My "Devilman Grimorie" review

Well now, It's official because on April 17th 2023 (3 months ago), I have like started and finished each and every volume of Devilman Grimoire and I really enjoyed the story by Go Nagai himself and the art by Rui Takato, It's a new Devilman story but it has some references from the original Devilman manga itself and from a few of the other mangas along with their anime addaptions as well as for they are the many retellings for the tale of Devilman.

I love the idea of Miki becoming a Devilman herself and fighting alongside Akira and sure there are some new characters, But there are familiar faces like Miki's family and even demons like Sirene, Jinmen, etc. - Like the original, It has it’s share of death, Tons of bloodshed, Gore, and even some nudity in the mix.
But what truly stands out for me is Akira and Miki's relationship the most of all because having been good friends ever since childhood and of course, He lives with Miki and her family as his parents died in an accident and even after the whole demon summoning ritual with Amon making an appearance and having taken over Akira's body, Yet he still retains his pure heart to gain the upper hand and to have turned him from sweet and innocent from the beginning to somewhat of a bad boy, Your parents would never approve of.

But for these two reasons here for why that what makes something truly stands out for me to Akira and Miki's relationship the most of all.

For one, The relationship between both Akira and Miki evolves from friendship to love as in Volume 4 - Chapter 13 like as they shared their first confession of love.
Within their first kiss and Akira making a promise that he will protect Miki no matter what happens to him in Volume 4 - Chapter 17, I felt it sounded really romantic and it really makes me wanna like say and shout out loud saying - "OOO yes there he goes!!!, Oh my god yes!!!, That’s my boy!!!, Akira!!!, You done it bro!!!, You did it!!!, You got it bro!!!, I’m really so very proud of you!!!"

And I'm truly grateful that they didn't get killed off and the story had ended like in the original manga volume series from the 1970’s and the reboot of the Netflix anime series of "Devilman Crybaby".

Plus as two for why that what makes something truly stands out for me to Akira and Miki's relationship the most of all is that it was like also satisfying that Akira and Miki both made love for the first time into the middle as the ending of Chapter 13 and I feel like the whole series would have a possible anime adaptation itself and I imagine
Griffin Burns and Cristina Vee voicing Akira and Miki and for those guys that I gotta say that they did great in Devilman Crybaby before and I felt it'd be amazing that they'd voice them again. I wonder if Tara Sands would provide the voice of Tare (Miki's little brother) and for Miko and maybe Cherami Leigh and Joe the Fist - Bryce Papenbrook and I also imagine Todd Haberkorn as Alphonse sensei

And I don't know if they would, But hey, If one can dream, Then maybe you can as well too.

So anyways into this conclusion that I gotta say right now that it's a wonderful Devilman manga series worth reading and it also has it’s share of funny moments and a couple of naughty scenes.

So anyways I’m gonna give Devilman - Grimoire (The Completed Volume Manga Series) a 10/10 as into a gigantic 100% - 10 out of 10 yes and I’d so recommended it to anyone who's a fan of Devilman.

Hmmm, okay so here's the problem with Devilman G: the original Devilman (and Crybaby) walks a fine line between eroguru (erotic gore) and fanservice, and generally the original series leaned away from titillating fanservice in favor of more horrific types of nudity (granted the original manga is still riddled with problematic tropes). It used sex and nudity to give the demons a more primal flavor. It leaned heavily into the demons' need for lust, sex, violence, and endless desire - all very human qualities. It felt scary and oppressive when it worked, as it's easy to imagine a human descending and debasing themselves to that level.

The problem with Devilman G is that it leans more heavily into titillating fanservice than horror, which then waters down the instances where it uses it for horror. It doesn't help that this volume had some tropes I absolutely hate (lolis).

Luckily the second half of the volume brought the series back to its roots, even out-cheesing the original by having a Devilman mech transformation fueled by the power of love. Now that is the shit I am here for.

This series continues to get more sick and twisted with each volume it would seem. (And more nudity with this volume too.) But for some reason it doesn't really bother me because it still feels like Devilman. Even though I don't remember the original being quite this twisted, it still feels right for this series.

And I'm still loving this new series way more than I ever liked the original. Two volumes in, still no sign of Ryo even existing, and Sirene being set up as the lead villain? This is the Devilman I always wanted! Maybe now we can finally avoid repeating that awful ending every incarnation of this series keeps falling into.

If this series does end up going back that way I'm just going to be disappointed, but for now I'm still greatly enjoying it. This was an excellent volume.

Tsubasa Rises

Just as a general warning because unlike some series that have limited nudity and violence that this series gets really gruesome and nudity is pretty common place (there is even a scene where a talon reaches out of a devil's vagina making her a giant hand when her arms and legs also transform.) Honestly not being an intro volume this volume has all sorts of things that may offend readers.

For all the fetishist out there this book could be sporting something you might like if you are into any of the following things:
Forced Nudity
Monster Girls
Torture (from both heroes and baddies)
Body Horror (Girls are found partially melted into solid surfaces and some messy nudity)
Mind Control
Breast Fondling
Drugging Victims into a stupor or sleep
Bondage Wear
Reverse Necrophilia (when a devil possessing corpses forces herself upon Amon)
Implied Underage Forced Prostitution (mentioned by a doctor)
Orgy Parties
Implied Rape (and technically Rape if Amon wanted to resist the possessed corpses)
Possession
Vore (mostly Devils eating humans)

This volume primarily deals with Tsubasa who is the key to the return of Amon's past rival, Sirene the Harpy. As such we pick up from the end of last volume with some of the devil girls that have been offering Amon and company trouble last issue. Being able to use what power she has gained from Sirene who she was used to summon in the past Tsuabasa is able to fit into the Makimura family structure pretty easily as we see the story not only continue along the lines of fighting back against the devils returning to Earth through human bodies but also how Sirene's minions are trying to not only return Tsuabasa to their fold but try to force her to let Sirene to finally possess her so she can be fully returned to Earth. Needless to say many opportunities for plenty of chaos, carnage, and carnality all around.

Otra obra del multiverso Nagai que leí completa, me divirtió un montón, me encantó el dibujo y de la que no recuerdo casi nada. Y ni siquiera la leí hace tanto, pero seguro le tocará relectura uno de estos lustros.
