Career-obsessed Ryan Shale is a detective in a dilemma. He's been fortunate to get rid of his scruffy, guitar-plucking lodger before the man's blasted rug rat is born. After all, there would have been no chance of him passing his Inspector's exams with a sprog screaming in Jake's basement rooms. But if the guy's departure was such a lucky break, why does coming home at night now feel so cold and unwelcoming?
THE LODGER
Blind spirit finder Jake Taberner is a man in a mess. On midsummer's night, he stormed out on his infuriating 'clean freak' of a landlord, but months later, still can't find anywhere permanent to live. With his son's birth imminent, his surrogate has threatened to put the baby up for adoption if he doesn't find somewhere fast. How could his lifelong dream of becoming a dad be slipping through his fingers?
As year-end approaches, Ryan stumbles upon a mystery that reignites the embers of their painful feud. A body found in a snowbound forest bears a scar identical to one on Jake. As the cold case heats up, so does the tension between the prickly detective and the forensic psychic who once worked alongside him. Jake guards his childhood secrets as closely as Ryan conceals his heart's desires, but with young lives hanging in the balance, can the pair bridge the chasm of mistrust? The quest for justice leads them down a path so dark that only the bravest of confessions can light the way. As Ryan and Jake wrangle with hidden truths and suppressed feelings, they're forced to confront the ultimate Can the urgency of the mission defeat Jake's lifelong fears and allow him to open up about his terrifying history? This tale of suspense pulls readers into a world where the past is never truly buried, but the best rewards await those who dare to unearth it.

The Sixteenth Grave is the first book of a three book series by Dan Garrett. When I read this I was pulled into the storyline from the very beginning. It is so well written and engaging. I could not put it down. I couldn't wait to read the next book in the series. I definitely recommend this book.
I really hope this author keeps writing because there are some good ideas and plot points in this story, but man, it was hard to get through. The characters do things that don’t make sense and the plot jolts around with little connective tissue. It’s a detective story wound through with trauma and disability and spirits and relationships are all push and pull. This is the first of a series and literally nothing gets solved here. I guess I’m just a frustrated reader because there werecomponents of a great story somewhere in here.
*Get to this goodness! Get to it now* It is not everyday that one comes across a story that is so so beautifully written that it captivates your reader heart and soul. I loved every moment of this read, right from the slow burn nature of Jake and Ryan's love for each other, the crime mystery surrounding the story as well as the wonderful side characters.
In book 1 of this trilogy, we meet Ryan and Jake ( a blind psychic and his detective handler), colleagues and ex roommates, skirt around the sexual chemistry and the affection they share for each other whilst trying to patch up their working as well as personal relationship. As the mystery behind the once cold case murders unfold, we come to know about their past, how it has shaped their lives and their inhibitions towards love.
The penmanship is so beautiful to read..words, such beautiful words. Be it the imagery that the words paint in the scenes where Jake describes the ethereal world or just the feel-good interpersonal banter moments, every chapter is a treat to read.
Looking for your next favourite trilogy? Look no further.
**Escapes back to reader's burrow to devour book 2**
- a heartbreaking mystery that is a real nailbiter and nothing for the faint of heart - two MCs you are going to fall so hard for and you will root for like crazy - a cast of interesting and fleshed out characters throughout the story so you will feel like you have met a bunch of new friends
Just go on and start that series!
But we are everything but done with all the mystery and love story, so I will move on to book 2 now. Laters :-)
Oh my God, I can't believe the books are finally out!! Going to start them right now... so don't come knocking, not going to be available until I'm done!!!
I can’t understand why this book has so few reviews, it’s so good, although it does deal with a very difficult subject matter, the story zips along and the writing is great. Would highly recommend, I’m off to download book two. I really hope there will be audio versions at some point
This unusual police drama presents an unpredictable mix of tension and humour, never letting up from start to finish. From one cliffhanger to the next, Detective Ryan Shale, a relatable every-man struggling with a raft of personal issues, does his best to keep up with his mysterious sidekick Jake - an enigmatic psychic who brings an element of the paranormal into an already complex investigation. As Ryan battles to solve a cold case so baffling that even his father, the legendary DCI Adam Kavanagh, had been unable to crack it, he slowly gives in to his feelings for Jake and a new romance begins. Be assured of a Happy Ever After ending.
To say I was excited to read this book (again) would have been an understatement. Gosh what a ride! It had everything I wanted in a mm paranormal book.
Kavanagh's Legacy was the first book that ever introduced me to the whole psychicxcop trope and I'm ever grateful to be able to read Ryan and Jake's story once more. Very few books leave me completely satisfied to the the brim and this was one of them.
Eager to finish the rest of the series (once again 😆). Incredible work Dan! Lots of best wishes!
Some authors have the ability to involve you, to capture your mind in a way that makes you feel part of the story... and this is a gift, a gift that Dan Garrett offers to each of us with his trilogy. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Open your mind and heart to this wonderful and intriguing story and give yourself the opportunity to get to know this talented author.
I usually don’t write reviews on books but I must say I have to for that one. I loved it…. once I read the prequel. I struggled at the beginning since I had a hard time understanding Jake and its work (the prequel explains it all) but once I got it I couldn’t put the book down, I had to know what happened next.
