For fans of Mary Alice Monroe’s The Beach House comes a heartwarming story from women’s fiction author Diane Owens Prettyman about second chances as two people find a pathway out of their grief—directly in the aftermath of a hurricane.

The Texas Gulf: beautiful yet unpredictable..

A beach town destroyed. Her mother’s candy store swept away. This is what Teddy Wainsworth faces when she returns to Bird Isle. Meanwhile, Jack Shaughness, owner of a popular barbecue restaurant chain and widower still grieving the death of his wife, receives permission to cross over to the island with a smoker full of brisket to feed hurricane survivors. Soon after arriving, he meets Teddy and immediately finds himself drawn to her—which makes him feel he is betraying his wife. When the two find a lost dog, Jack convinces Teddy to take the dog home while they attempt to find the owner, creating a bond that brings them closer.

In the wake of the hurricane, Bird Isle residents fear the Aransas Wildlife Refuge will not be ready for the whooping cranes’ annual migration south. Seeing that Jack has important connections and a love for the island, they enlist him to help restore the habitat of the endangered cranes before they fly to Padre Island for the winter. With their rescued dog always nearby, Teddy and Jack work side by side to rebuild Bird Isle for the return of the whooping cranes. But Jack is harboring a secret that may ruin everything he and Teddy are creating—and he won’t be able to keep that secret forever.

EXCERPT: Pickles barked. 'What's that, Lassie? You want to go to the beach?'
Pickles tilted her head as if wondering if her name had changed. She led Pickles down the path and sat in the midst of the rubble. She listened to the waves rush against the shore, watched for falling stars, and replayed the night. Jack. That hug. Down-to-earth, funny, and easy to talk to. Geez, she sounded like a contestant on a dating show. Maybe something like The Bachelorette: Hurricane Survivors.
She slapped her hand against her forehead. Daniel. She promised to call. Too late. Well, not really. She wanted to keep reliving that hug from Jack and the kiss on her forehead, not talk to Daniel.

MY THOUGHTS: A novel about two people finding their way out of grief and rebuilding their lives post-hurricane.

This is a very sweet story about a young woman grieving the loss of her mother and a man the loss of his wife. Despite the pitfalls and obstacles the couple encounter, there's never any real doubt about the HEA at the end.

Love is for the Birds is a perfectly nice story, but one that never embraced me. A good indication is that it took me SIX days to read this book. Unbelievable! There's nothing really wrong with it, I just wasn't touched where it matters.

The two main characters never rang really true - Jack was just TOO nice to be real, and Teddy is all over the place with her feelings - about Daniel, about Jack, about just about everything. She is very insecure and mercurial. A good soundtrack for this read would be Should I Stay or Should I Go by the Clash.

Several opportunities for a little drama were overlooked, like the rebuilding of Something Sweet, Teddy's late mother's sweet shop. One day it is just a concrete pad amongst the rubble; the next it is reopening for business! Who ever got through a build with no stress, and nothing going wrong, especially when there are insurance companies involved!

I did enjoy the ecological thread and learning about Whooping Cranes, a bird I'd never previously heard of.

The author was inspired to write this story after Hurricane Harvey destroyed her favorite Texas Gulf town and severely damaged the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and the Amos Rehabilitation Keep. I find that admirable.

A perfectly pleasant read, but not a memorable one.

⭐⭐.5

LOVE IS FOR THE BIRDS by Diane Owens Prettyman takes the readers to Bird Island which has just been ravaged by a hurricane. Teddy Wainsworth is afraid of what she is going to find when she returns to the island. Her mother’s candy store, which was left to Teddy after her mom passed away, is completely destroyed. Jack Shaughness is the owner of a popular barbecue restaurant chain. He is also a widower still grieving the death of his wife. He gets permission to cross over to the closed island with a smoker full of brisket to feed hurricane survivors. This is how Teddy meets Jack.

Both of their hearts are broken and they are both grieving. But Jack can’t seem to help himself and is instantly attracted to Teddy. Teddy feels like Jack is still in love with his late wife and Teddy knows she can’t compete with that. Jack is also hiding a pretty big secret that has to do with Teddy’s grandfather. It is a secret that is not going to make Teddy happy. Grab a copy of LOVE IS FOR THE BIRDS, snag a snack and your favorite beverage and get on the couch. Be prepared to spend the day with mixed emotions while reading this beautiful story and keep the tissue box handy.

I have no idea why I have never read Diane Owens Prettyman . She goes straight for the readers heart and LOVE IS FOR THE BIRDS did exactly that. I finished this with tears streaming down my face and a huge lump in my throat, at the same time I was smiling like an idiot! I love when an author can do that to me. The more I was reading, the more I found myself slipping into the story and living vicariously through Teddy. I was so engrossed in her story and was constantly rooting for her happiness even if at times I was wondering if she was making the right decisions! I am now on a quest to read all of Ms. Prettyman’s books, she goes straight for your heart.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was a great read and I enjoyed it very much. Lots of emotional layers throughout the story, which just added to the charm. The author does a great job of creating a place that you can picture in your mind as you read. I loved the characters and all the banter and fun between them. Teddy and Jack were great main characters, but I loved so many others as well. Grief, love, natural disasters, rebuilding, relationships, and so much more. This is a great read that I really enjoyed.

Love Is For The Birds by Diane Owens Prettyman is a second chance romance, with touches of tragedy, and hope. I loved the setting, as Bird Island is a place I've always wanted to visit. The emphasis in bird conservation is extremely important in this day and age, as we definitely need attention on it. Overall a great book, I absolutely recommend it.

‘How do you define love? A good man is like a candy store…’ this is what Teddy’s mom once said.

Teddy returns to Bird Isle after a hurricane has hit the island and caused great devastation. The monumental loss is not only seen in the natural world but is reflected in Teddy’s personal life. She is dealing with a number of conflicts: including the passing of her mother and confusion about her current romantic relationship. Things are not quite as they should be. There’s no magic or fast beating heart moments. Then she meets Jack, a widower and owner of a barbeque restaurant. He is attempting to feed the hurricane survivors and those who have come to help rebuild the town.

There is another a character of significance in this story: a dog. Teddy is given this frightened lost animal to care for that may have lost her owner and home in the hurricane. Teddy becomes quite attached to Pickles (a name she has given the rescued pet) for she is a great source of comfort during this difficult time. Teddy checks various places to see if someone has listed the lost dog but she is unable to find out where Pickles has come from. Until after a strong attachment and bond have been established between these two. But Jack eventually discovers who is missing this precious pooch and it is quite a heart tugging moment. But how will Teddy handle this new information? Will she give up Pickles when the time comes to return her to the rightful owner?

As Teddy gets to know Jack, she starts to appreciate and like him a great deal. They get along well and she begins to wonder what life would be like with him by her side always. Their friendship helps her understand what’s missing in her previous relationship. This allows her to make a much needed decision and where she needs to be. And the next step to a happier, healthier life. Which includes rebuilding Sweet Somethings, her mother’s candy store that was smashed by the hurricane. Maybe returning to the island permanently is a good thing for her just now?

The novel is filled with wit and humour: gentle banter that keeps the text lively and light hearted giving it contrast to the struggles and devastation that surround them from the hurricane. Nature has shown its merciless side but there is splendour reflected in the island’s profound beauty when at peace. And the wonderful spirit of the people that make up the community: how they come together to help each other is inspiring. There’s interesting info about the whooping cranes on Bird Isle, too. As hurricanes cause great devastation not only to human residences but also to the habitat of wildlife.

This is a novel about dealing with grief, loss and cutting bad ties, but also fresh starts, new love and the rise of community spirit during natural disasters. The courage to rebuild and maintain hope shines across its pages. Lost things, people and pets become found. It also covers the preservation and resurgence of the natural world and its inhabitants: wild and domesticated. It reminds us of the importance of finding your place in the right setting with the right people. This is a well written story that will make you smile, cry, giggle and sigh. And appreciate both the little and big things of life that we often take for granted. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to the publisher She Writes Press and Netgalley for the ARC.

Love is For the Birds by Diane Owens Prettyman is a touching story set on Bird Isle, blending themes of family, friendship, and romance. Teddy Wainsworth returns to her hurricane-devastated hometown, grappling with the loss of her mother and the destruction of her mother’s candy store. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt, Teddy finds unexpected solace in Jack Shaughness, a widower and restaurant owner, who arrives on the island to help in the hurricane recovery efforts.

Their growing friendship, fueled by the shared experience of rebuilding their community, quickly blossoms into a romance. Despite the accelerated pace of their relationship, it is a heartwarming journey. One of the standout elements of the book is its emphasis on bird conservation, particularly the restoration of the Aransas Wildlife Refuge for the annual whooping crane migration, adding depth and educational value to the story.

However, Jack’s hidden secret creates tension, testing their newfound connection. The novel explores whether Teddy can overcome this challenge, adding a layer of emotional complexity to the storyline. The depiction of community resilience and environmental restoration forms the foundation of this heartfelt and hopeful romance.

Bird Isle is a beautiful small beach town but with a hurricane on the horizon everything may be lost. Not just the town but the wonderous whooping cranes and other creatures who call the island home. The town rallies though and ensure to pull together to fix it all.
Jack a stranger comes to town to raise money for the island to help them rebuild their lives and that of the wildlife sanctuary. Along the way, he discovers it is finally time for him to put the past behind him and finally move on from his grief.
Teddy returns to the Isle amongst the devastation and is dealing with some things, as a character she was a bit hard to take with all her insecurities and actions. She was a little too over the top with her expectations. I’m still in two minds about her.
There are several storylines entwined that give the story another dimension.
If you like small town full of eclectic characters, small-town romances, learning about wildlife then Love is for the Birds is the perfect book to escape into.

I really enjoyed reading this story. Teddy was checking out her late Mother's candy store after a hurricane to discover the store had been demolished. Her boyfriend Daniel wanted her to sell the property and move in with him in Houston.

She was trying to rebuild the store and met Jack when he brought BBQ beef from Angie's place to Bird Isle for the residents since most of the town was destroyed.

Loved the story and think you will too.

Birds (my favorite subject), dogs, likable characters, beautiful descriptions. What more would you want from a heart touching novel that keeps you wanting more? This was a beautiful story and kept me interested the entire way through. I wish it never ended it was that good. Would love to have a follow up to Jack and Teddy’s love story and what happens with the island and the rescue.

This book in a nutshell is an enjoyable read. After a hurricane hits Bird Isle, the towns people pull together to rebuild their wonderful community and to preserve the bird refuge. Even through often tense moments, it think that's the right way to say it, some manage to find love.

My Thoughts:
This book is a great story about love, loss and survival.. Teddy had lost her mother a year ago. She holds onto guilt, believing that her mother’s death was her fault. Teddy feels responsible for her mother’s candy store, Beach Treats, on Bird Isle. A hurricane had struck recently, and she hoped her Beach Treats wouldn't be damaged too badly. Jack he meets Teddy sparks fly and then she finds out he a crane expert so she enlists him to help them get the Crane habitat read for the migration that is incoming. If not it will not be ready in time, which will be a disaster. I finished this with tears streaming down my face and a huge lump in my throat, at the same time I was smiling

Beautiful, emotional book about second chances!!!

“Not all storms come to disrupt your life; some come to clear your path.” This quote sums up exactly what this beautiful book is about!

The book opens when Teddy returns to Bird Isle after a devastating hurricane. She discovers that her beloved mother’s candy store was destroyed. Not long after being back, Teddy meets Jack. The two create a bond when they find a dog who is lost. With Jack’s encouragement, she takes the lost pup home until they can find the owner. Both of them are still mourning losing loved ones, so they are hesitant to go beyond friendship despite the pull they feel towards one another.

Teddy is grieving her mother, who a drunk driver killed, and her goal is to rebuild her business. Jack is the owner of a barbecue restaurant chain, who has come to help the town’s citizens, and he has recently lost his wife. Both characters are so relatable and complex. Teddy doesn’t want to risk losing someone else, and Jack is dealing with guilt because of his feelings for Teddy. He feels like he is betraying his late wife. It was a beautiful thing to watch these two damaged souls find love and hope again.

The setting was gorgeous, and I loved seeing the community come together, rebuilding and working to get the Wildlife Refuge ready for the whooping cranes’ yearly migration. The author also added another layer to the story with a secret Jack is hiding and how that will affect his budding relationship with Teddy.

The book was well-written and had complex characters. The chapters were told from Teddy and Jack’s perspectives, giving a more in-depth look into their thoughts. Each chapter also had cute headings that teased what the chapter would be about, such as “Tide and Chance” and “Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About.” I loved that addition. While the book was emotional, it was also heartwarming, especially with the addition of the pups.

I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

This book is about love, tragedy, and hope for the future.

Bird Isle was hit hard by a hurricane. But the residents of this town don't let it get them down. They band together to put things right, including preserving the refuge for the cranes and other birds that migrate this way. Along the way, many find love, but not without some tension!

The main characters are Teddy and Jack. Teddy is dealing with guilt over the death of her mother and blames herself. Jack is moving past the death of his wife five years previously. However, when these two meet, there are sparks. But don't think that their road to happiness is easy. Teddy seems to think that Jack is still hung up on his wife. While it isn't as if Jack has forgotten about her, it is Teddy's insecurities that hold her back. She can be very annoying throughout this book. I thought it was unreasonable for Teddy to think Jack should rename his successful barbeque restaurants just because they bear his wife's name. I don't know where Teddy got some of these notions in her head, holding her back from happiness. Luckily, she finally comes to her senses by the end of the book. That isn't a spoiler since we know there is a HEA!

Jack isn't perfect, and he is hiding a secret or two. But I can appreciate his realization that he needs to move forward with his life, and that is with Teddy.

There are a few other minor plots, such as Dot, her daughter Brooke, and the mysterious father. I say mysterious because Brooke doesn't know who her father is, and Dot never told either of them. There is also a storyline that involves Pickles, the dog. I loved the name, and it seemed appropriate, all things considered.

Outside of the personal storylines, the book is also educational and shares some details about Whooping Cranes and other birds that migrate to the Gulf each year.

This is an enjoyable story, and we give it 4 paws up!

This is a really sweet second chance romance. It is a story about two people finding love and hope after disaster.
After a horrendous hurricane had rocked the Bird Isle Teddy returns to see what has happend to her mother's home and business. After losing her mum the business is all that remains and Teddy will do whatever it takes to save it. When she arrived however she is devastated to see just how little remains for the business and how much damage has been done. While she is looking at the damage she meets Jack.
Jack has arrived in the Isle to have provide food for the survivors and volunteers helping to rebuild everything that has been destroyed. Jack is a widower and is dealing with his own grief after losing his wife.
One thing he can't deny is his attraction to Teddy. It is instant and he feels he is finally ready to move on from his grief.
However things aren't so easy for Teddy. As much as she likes him, she doesnt believe he is over losing his wife and she feels unable to measure up to her.
What will happen when the couple have to work together to help rebuild a wildlife habitat for the whooping cranes. Will the time they spend together prove to Teddy just how good they can be? Or will the past and Teddy's worries about not being good enough stop any chance of a romance blossoming.

This was a really emotional story that deals with issues such as grief and loss but it is also a story about finding hope, new love and rebuilding a life that has been so damaged and destroyed.

Walt intercepted her and tried to prepare for the damage. Beach Treats was destroyed. As she was thinking of what to do, Jack pulled up in his pickup. He told the duo he was offering workers a free BBQ for dinner. Despite Teddy's reluctance due to her emotional turmoil, Walt and Jack insisted she attend dinner. Jack missed Angela, his deceased wife. She died five years ago. However, Teddy intrigues him, making him question if he is ready to start dating again.
This is a slow-burn romance that brings two people struggling with their past traumas. Teddy’s heart is completely walled off, and she honestly doesn’t know if she truly loves Daniel. Jack had dedicated his life to his wife, Angela. He holds onto her memory and struggles with living a real life again. I liked watching how Teddy and Daniel grow a friendship and how the island community struggles through the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. I appreciated the multiple subplots that unfolded concurrently with the growth of Teddy and Jack. The reuniting of love and the growth of every person in the story made this an excellent story that left no loose ends. I rate this novel five stars.

“Love is For the Birds” is a heartfelt tale of family, friendship, and romance set against the backdrop of the resilient Bird Isle. This was my first book by Diane Owens Prettyman, but it certainly won’t be my last.

Teddy Wainsworth has endured a series of devastating losses over the past year. The accidental death of her mother, which she feels responsible for, and now the destruction of her mother’s beloved candy store by a hurricane, have left her overwhelmed with grief and guilt. Her return to Bird Isle is fraught with emotions, but she finds an unexpected ally in Jack Shaughness, a widower and barbecue restaurant owner who arrives on the island to help feed hurricane survivors.

The sense of community on Bird Isle is beautifully depicted. Despite the chaos and destruction, the residents come together to support each other, even extending their care to a lost dog found amidst the wreckage. Jack and Teddy’s friendship, forged in the aftermath of the hurricane, grows quickly as they work side by side to rebuild their homes and businesses. While the speed of their developing relationship may stretch realism, it adds a touch of the fantastical charm that makes romance novels so enjoyable.

One of the highlights of the story is the emphasis on bird conservation. The community’s efforts to restore the Aransas Wildlife Refuge for the whooping cranes’ annual migration is both inspiring and educational. The bird count subplot was particularly engaging and added a unique layer to the narrative.

However, Jack’s hidden secret looms over their budding romance, threatening to unravel everything they’ve built together. Teddy, a strong-willed woman determined to face her challenges independently, must navigate this revelation and decide if she can forgive and move forward.

I really enjoyed this heartwarming second chance at love romance. Set in the Texas Gulf following a hurricane the beach town, Bird Isle has been destroyed. Teddy returns to help her mother whose candy store has been swept away. Widower and barbecue restaurant owner Jack heads to the island to feed the hurricane survivors. Jack meets Teddy having found a lost dog and he’s immediately drawn to her, but feels guilty as he’s still grieving the death of his wife.
The Aransas Wildlife Refuge on Bird Isle is home to the whooping cranes during their annual migration south. Jack is asked to help restore the habitat in the wake of the hurricane for the endangered cranes, before they fly to Padre Island for the winter. As Teddy and Jack, along with their rescued dog work together rebuilding the wildlife refuge their connection grows. Just as their relationship is developing Jack’s secret may prevent them having a future together.
I loved the likeable and relatable Teddy and Jack and their chemistry really came across in the narrative. The setting came vividly to life through the wonderfully detailed and descriptive narrative. I felt fully immersed in the storyline and was captivated throughout. This is an uplifting, inspirational, feel good story with plenty of romance.

This is the first book I have read by this author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The cover is absolutely gorgeous and sets the tone beautifully. It is a heartfelt and emotional journey of healing and second chances set against the backdrop of a hurricane-ravaged beach town. The character development was truly unique, and it was immediately apparent that the author poured a lot of thought into them. The story flows smoothly without any hiccups whatsoever. Teddy and Jack cross paths in Bird Isle where they are both emotionally recovering from their own losses. Their connection is immediate but complicated. The novel is rich with themes of grief, renewal, and the power of community. The author’s writing captures the beauty and unpredictability of the Texas Gulf, while the emotional stakes are high as Jack’s secret threatens to undo the fragile connection he’s built with Teddy. If you’re looking for an uplifting story about finding hope after loss and the healing power of nature, love, and second chances, this one is for you. It’s perfect for fans of women’s fiction as it will tug at your heartstrings and leave you with a renewed sense of optimism. I am really looking forward to more from this author!

My reading year has been off to a very good start 😉

I loved this cover but I loved what’s in between them even more 😉📕❣️

Where I come from hurricanes are very scarce so this was a read that very informative to me and the effects it has not only of man but nature and when we see reports we only see the effect on man and not animals so this really touched my heart ❤️

Having a sweet tooth myself one of the things that attracted me was the dandy store I know it’s strange but hey I’ll own it 🤣😉

So Teddy heads to Bird isle after a hurricane all but destroyed their little town and people are active in operation clean up but there’s also matters of the heart and tie me this just added that magic that hope brings ….

Jack is widowed and is still grieving the puss of his wife but he’s headed to Bird isle to try and restore the habitat for the migration of the whooping cranes and for business what he didn’t bank on was the restoration of his heart and that happens when he meets Teddy and their rescue dog 🐾❣️

I cried hard , like seriously blubbering and howling that attracted strange looks from my family but I also laughed and cheered for people and avians alike 😉

This is definitely a read I’ll be sure to share with anyone and everyone 🥰

Love is For The Birds is a contemporary romance novel with an eco-nature awareness twist. Teddy has lost her mother recently, so she has embraced owning a candy shop on Bird Isle, a small beach town in the Gulf near Texas. A hurricane swarms the area and wipes out the candy store. Now she is caught between living in Houston with her boyfriend Daniel or rebuilding on Bird Isle and making a new start with the candy shop. There is a twist with a man who comes in to share a BBQ with the town to raise money to help the residents of Bird Isle get back on their feet. There is a worry on the isle that the much-loved whooping cranes may not return to the isle due to the hurricane's destruction of their habitat. There is a sweet, burning romance in this novel that was on the edge of my seat; I love the feel of the community of Bird Isle as they come together to recover from the hurricane. The addition of the whooping crane's habitat, which needed to be cleaned up, and the hope that the birds would return was fantastic. There is a lot to love in this book. It is not just a romance but an eye-opening and cozy story.

Title:   Love Is for the Birds
Author:  Diane Owens Prettyman
Genre: Romance
Rating:  2.5 out of 3

I had high hopes for this, because I love Port Aransas, and that’s what this setting reminded me of. But…this was a disappointing read. This felt very predictable and unrealistic. Teddy’s candy store was wiped out by a hurricane, and mere weeks later, it’s totally rebuilt and open for business? Not believable. Teddy herself was juvenile and indecisive, hung up on Jack’s restaurants’ names and the fact that his wife died five years before.

Jack seemed way too good to be true, and the insta-love aspect really drove me up the wall. Everything seemed really rushed in the amount of time elapsed, and Jack expected Teddy to be over her long-term boyfriend in like a week. The thing that really bothered me the most, though, was Jack and Teddy’s reaction to the teenage girl character’s nose piercing. They acted like it was so horrifying and gross. Was this written decades ago, or was it written recently, when nose piercings are everywhere? Frankly, this made the characters and the author seem judgy and hidebound.

Teddy Wainsworth has already lost her mother, so her candy store, Beach Treats, is very dear to her. But when a hurricane hits Bird Isle, Teddy suffers another devastating loss. Her home and business are destroyed. Her long-distance boyfriend, Daniel, doesn’t seem to offer much support. He’s too wrapped up in his own life in Houston to help Teddy and doesn’t understand why she doesn’t take the insurance money and leave the island.
Jack Shaughness has seen the devastation on the island and wants to help the residents as much as he can. He provides food for them and is also helping to rebuild. He knows what it’s like to lose something close to him. He lost his wife, Angela, 5 years ago. When he sees Teddy, he can’t help the instant attraction. Since Angela’s death, he hadn’t met anyone that he wanted to be with, until now. He does have one small secret that he’s not sure how to tell Teddy.
I enjoyed watching the relationship unfold between Teddy and Jack. This was a feel-good story for the residents of the island and the couple who knew what they wanted, but sometimes needed a little nudge.

Teddy returns to Bird Isle in the wake of a hurricane to find her beloved beach town destroyed and her mothers candy store completely wipe away. She's devastated but eager to rebuild. Jack is the owner of a barbecue restaurant and he comes to the island to feed those in need. With a smoker full of brisket the town falls in love with him quick! While feeding those on the isle he finds a dog, who he talks Teddy into keeping. They name her pickles and she quickly becomes apart thier little trio. Bird Isle's Aransas Wildlife Refuge quickly enlists Jack's help for the whooping cranes annual migration and rebuilding their habitat for the endangered birds. They don't have much time before their migration south and they must be ready. Only a few issues though. Teddy has a long term boyfriend who is pushing her to sell and move. And Jack has some secrets that could ruin everything between them. So what will happen when everything comes to light? Such a great book! I live in a state that gets hurricanes yearly, so some of this really hits home. I loved the characters and story. Can't wait to read some more from this author!

It's been three weeks since Hurricane Harvey struck the coast of Texas and made waste to the little Bird Isle off the coast. For Teddy the grief of her mother's death is exponentially compounded by the loss of Beach Treats, her mom's Bird Isle candy store. Teddy's boyfriend doesn't seem to be of much help, what with his mansplaining and focus on getting Teddy back to Houston asap. Things are looking pretty bleak. Then along comes Jack a "young George Strait look-alike" with an attitude as bright as the Texas sun. A coincidence? Maybe. Teddy suddenly finds herself with an awful lot of questions about her life in general and finds herself struggling with so many "if onlys".... I really liked this book for its realistic portrayal of life after disaster, struggling with grief, and finding the strength to make tough adult decisions after loss. The author's conversational style of writing puts the reader in the midst of the action. It is a quick, read that is pleasantly free of objectionable language or hypersexuality. As a hurricane survivor, I could really relate to the description of life after the cameras leave.

Love if for the Birds: A Novel by Diane Owens Prettyman. This is the second book I've read this week that I absolutely loved! If you are a fan of beach reads then this is the book for you. It is set in the Texas Gulf called Bird Isle and a hurricane has just come thru and destroyed the beach town. Teddy's mom has had a candy shop in Bird Isle forever it seems and it was destroyed. Jack heads to the Island to feed the people his famous BBQ. It's the least he can do for the hurricane survivors. When he meets Teddy sparks fly and then she finds out he a crane expert so she enlists him to help them get the Crane habitat read for the migration that is incoming. If not it will not be ready in time, which will be a disaster. They also rescue a dog along the way and end up adopting it and they bond over that as well. Jack has just lost his wife so he is dealing with a lot of guilt for even being interested in Teddy. Will they be able to save the cranes and will Jack be able to get past his grief? Read this amazing romantic women's fiction to find out!

Starts with a girl named Teddy who is dealing with the loss of her mother to find out then she’s got to figure out what to do about her mother's store which was damaged in a storm. Then she meets Jack who sounds like a very charming guy! He’d lost his wife years ago so he was a loner by choice until he loses concentration and becomes interested in knowing more about Teddy.

They meet during the storm cleanup (her cleaning up her home and business, and him bringing food and offering help). Oh yeah, and Teddy has a boyfriend (who lives elsewhere) and she’s trying to work through what to do with the relationship as they are on different thoughts of what to do throughout these struggles she’s going through. During the hurricane clean up Jack can’t get enough of seeing Teddy and putting his foot in his mouth lol (I’m the same way- I never say the right thing) it’s a cute story that I just couldn’t put down. Super cute and I enjoyed reading this story. Loved! I definitely recommend, this as a great read!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Love is for the birds. Diane Owen’s Prettyma is a new author for me and I will be searching for more of her work. The story takes place in Texas on the coast and the town of Bird Isles journey back from a devastating hurricane which destroyed the town. Teddy returns to find her late mother’s candy store swept away. Then, Jack, a widower and the owner of a barbecue restaurant, shows up in town to feed the survivors of the hurricane and decides to stay to help them rebuild. This is a heartfelt and beautifully written story of coming together to help each other to rebuild their town. There is so much in this sweet story including dealing with family grief and situations, learning to forgive and trust again, the giving of second chances and love appears unexpectedly even through hidden secrets. Yes it is a lot but this read is so worth the time. I loved it.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. All of the different types of healing that goes on this book is just so.... heartwarming. Grief is a hard things to go through, but Diane just did it in the most beautiful way that easy to read, but at the same time pulls at the heartstrings just enough that you can feel it, but it's not so overwhelming and in your face. Between Teddy and Jack you can see the growth and development in their wants for each other. Teddy has literally lost everything. She lost her grandma's candy shop in the storm that hit Bird Island. Jack is still mourning his wife that passed. When these two meet, you can feel that something could be there, but these to are too afraid to acknowledge it because they are still hurting. As the story develops and both learn to lean on each other challenges are thrown at them, while they are still processing their grief. It's a lot for just 2 people to go through, but they still manage.
