Luscious Bite: An Enchanted Mates Romance

Rate this book
Dr. Nikolav Sarkozy has had centuries to perfect his arrogance, but his cold vampire soul is no match for the beautifully joyful ER doctor, Francesca Banetti.

Cursed never to drink blood or enjoy pleasure from a human again until he finds his mate, Niko has lived an extremely lonely vampire life. When he walks into Mercy General Hospital and meets Francesca, his penance crashes down around him.

Francesca is a healer, but with her haunted past, she keeps her witch status hidden. While she excels at saving lives, she flourishes when infusing her magic into food, doting on her niece and nephew, and teasing Niko, of course.

Niko is everything bleak and miserable. Francesca is laughter, light, and love. He craves her but denies the ancient instinct whispering she belongs to him. But when a sinister demon threatens her and her family, he steps up and vows to protect them. He had no idea she would tear down the chains around his soul.

Seven hundred years is an awfully long time to be alone. Perhaps the time has come to find his enchanted mate.

Talk of death and killing. Past death of parents and grief. Death of patients in hospital, including child. Demon targeting women. Talk of gruesome attacks by demon.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Nikolav is a highly respected surgeon known for his expertise, though some may refer to him as the "devil" due to his anti-social and grumpy nature. Despite his mysterious past and lack of smiles, he remains at the hospital thanks to the influence of the cheerful Dr. Francesca, whom he believes to be his soulmate. Francesca, a talented witch with a passion for cooking, faces challenges from judgmental coworkers but maintains a positive attitude. Despite Niko's gruff demeanor, a shared experience brings them closer together.

Trigger Warning~ blood, death, gore, explicit scenes, detailed descriptions of surgery, injuries, death, and torture.

The story had a great and engaging plot; however, I could not adjust to the writing style. Something felt missing. The dialogues at the beginning were kind of confusing - I had difficulty understanding which character was saying what, and their dialogues sometimes did not make any sense. Because of this, I had a hard time continuing the book in one go, and I don't like leaving a book unfinished, so I kept reading only a few pages at a time. As the story went on, I finally adjusted to the dialogue and the mind-talking parts, but it still wasn't that pleasant.

The only characters I liked were Francesca and her niece and nephew. The other characters seemed either too overbearing or underwhelming. I did not like Niko very much. I understand he had centuries worth of trauma and stuff, but that doesn't excuse his actions and make him likable all of a sudden when his attitude only changes towards Francesca but not others.

Also, the technicality of soulmates wasn't explained. I was waiting for a description of what might be a future for them - will Niko continue to be immortal? Francesca is mortal, so what will happen when she outgrows her youth? Can they have kids?

I could not really understand how Francesca's magic worked, to be honest. Especially at the end. Because of this, the fight seemed kinda anticlimactic.

Otherwise, the story has potential. I did not see many of the plot twists coming. If you are interested in a paranormal romance with magic and mayhem, do consider reading this book.

Thank you Sara for giving me the ARC to this novel.

The way she writes is beautiful. She strings together words and forms poetic sentences. I would read her books just for this alone!

As for the story itself: I love a good vampire/ witch story where the characters are not high schoolers! The connection between Niko and Francesca is amazing. The way he cares for her and her family after the accident in the beginning got me hooked on the book.

If you like a brooding/ grumpy hero and supernatural characters that are not teenagers, then this book is for you 😊

This was fun! It was like Supernatural with a little Grey’s Anatomy mixed in. 😂

I liked how this was a bunch of supernatural beings like witches, vampires, werewolves, and demons but it felt super modern. I also liked how the MMC was a vampire but he saved lives. I thought this book was paced well and I never fully figured out the big reveal at the end so that was fun.
This was almost a cozy read just with some spice and gore added. I had a good time.
Thank you for the arc.

Curvy woman! (she's got a stomach!) <3

We have Niko the Vampire who works as a surgeon in the hospital and a fascination with a female on staff Francesca. Little does he know Francesca notices him too. These two are completely blind to how they feel for each other.

Niko is a Vampire who has been cursed to not feed from humans, not to kill humans and he can't even have sex! It's the punishment that the witches cursed him with for his actions. He lives his life working in the hospital and then he meets her. She's not the average woman either, we actually get a curvy woman! Her sister off on a job, Francesca has her niece and nephew over at her place and was on her way to drop them off and go to work one night when her car veers off the road. Between magic and the wits of a smart boy they are found, and brought into the ER. Mr. Grumpy Vampire is on duty and does everything to make sure she's okay, including when they check out of the hospital takes her to his house. Here they fight how they feel for each other. Neither wanting to say what they believe about the other. They are also trying to figure out what is after Francesca and the kids, where her sister is at, and also fighting their feelings for each other. These two are eventually gonna combust if they don't figure out their feelings and give in.

And besides is there any reason to be afraid of….. A caged vampire? Will his curse ever be broken? Will she finally get to have the love she wants?

We have a beautifully built world and an author who does well with her words. The story itself has a almost cozy sense but also some of the darker elements with what's going on. Shadow monsters, witches, vampires, werewolves, and the world of being a surgeon all come together to bring you Luscious Bite.

Thank you to the Author for the gifted eARC of this book!

I'm still not sure how I feel after finishing this book as I've been stewing and feel conflicted over what to write, but I need to begin somewhere, sooooo.....

I really enjoyed the beginning and the end, as for the middle...eh. I felt a bit ripped off, and I think that's why I'm stewing in my feelings.

Niko is a vampire who was cursed centuries ago. The curse, while simple, was quite horrible. It cursed him never to fed or find carnal pleasure from a human again, that is until he found his mate. One would think imminent death, especially with the feeding part, but Niko found other sources for sustaining himself and he went without fornicating for centuries. So, I was like okay, cool, what else is attached to this curse...death to his mate once he meets her, or does anyone have to swim through a raging river of death. I mean there is usually something cataclysmic that needs to break a curse, right? And yet, this is where we sat for a large chunk of the book. I waited, and waited, and was anticipating something, instead Niko and Francesca simply fought their feelings like ordinary humans would.

Huh. 🫤

That was very anticlimactic.

Then we get to the part of fighting evil and everyone rallies around the heroes and...the end.

So, yeah. While I loved several parts of this book, it also left me feeling frustrated. Don't get me wrong. I loved the mystery of who was causing the evil disruption. I honestly did not see it coming and was pleasantly shocked. I also enjoyed Francesca's extended family. They were all extremely delightful additions that really added to the story. So what I'm really saying is...I guess I was just expecting something a bit more that kept Niko from accepting his mate, instead of being a man dragging his 700 year old feet.

Niko is a cursed vampire. He heals humans as a surgeon. And, because of the curse, he cannot feed from a human until he meets his fated mate. Francesca is a witch that hides her true nature for safety. She infuses the food she makes for others with magic and always has the best of intentions. And, she is definitely the sunshine to Niko’s grump. While he’s attracted to her, Niko plans on always keeping his distance . . .until a dangerous being almost kills Francesca and it’s up to him to not only save her life, but keep her safe from what is determined to end her life.

Niko and Francesca were a fun opposites attract couple. He is hot and cold and has been alone for centuries, but she is making him feel alive (pun intended). And, he will protect and nurture her at all costs.

Luscious Bite had phenomenal suspense and paranormal elements. You know the big bad isn’t human . . . but you are not sure who or what it really is for most of the story. Niko is quite a unique vampire, being able to work as a trauma surgeon. I also really enjoyed the elements of witchcraft in the book. I adored the side characters in this book, especially Francesca’s niece and nephew who play a huge role as well as her sister and her werewolf partner - here’s hoping they get a book soon! The one miss for me was the dialogue at times. It felt contrived and too sugary sweet and distracting at times.

With a unique take on vampires and witchcraft, Luscious Bite was a fun romance readers can really sink their teeth into! 4 stars.

Love has the power to heal all...

I was so lucky to receive an ARC copy of Sara Ohlin’s newest novel, Luscious Bite—which I devoured. This is a paranormal romance with emotional depth, passion, and interesting twists that keep you turning the pages and wanting more. Sara Ohlin’s writing is beautiful and atmospheric, with vivid descriptions that place you directly into the story.

And it’s a very modern world that Ohlin creates, tempered with the comforts of good food, gardening, and unlikely friendships—a true feast for the senses and a world you won’t want to leave. You can expect a contemporary take on a paranormal romance with witches, vampires, werewolves, and demons. This is a must-read for those who enjoy their vampires and witches with a side of home cooking and sweet torment.

There is plenty of passion, steam, and spice, too. I wouldn’t call this a slow burn, as the steam properly starts around 50%, but maybe that’s just me!

As a note on content, in chapter three there is the death of a child at the hospital they both work at which is referenced again later. The last quarter of the book is fast-paced as the group try to solve the mystery and there is some gore (at a similar level to what you’d find in a thriller novel). There is also a brief instance of fat-shaming our plus-size heroine towards the end of the novel.

Overall, I LOVED this book! Luscious Bite had a satisfying end with a wonderful happy ever after!

Thank you for the arc!

Luscious Bite is an enchanted mates,  paranormal romance featuring a vampire and a garden witch, both of whom are doctors and work together in the same hospital.

Dr. Nikolav Sarkozy is a lonely vampire cursed to live without pleasure until he finds his mate, and Francesca Banetti, a joyful ER doctor with a hidden witch heritage. From the moment he met her, he knew she was his mate, but he kept his distance, afraid she wouldn't feel the same, so their relationship took a while to develop due to his hesitancy.

These two were the definition of grumpy-sunshine, as Niko had a dark, brooding nature and Francesca, a light, happy one, but  there was an  intense chemistry between them that I loved. And when their relationship did blossom, Niko was all in, and he had me swooning with how well he took care of Francesca.

We are given spice, mystery, danger, love, and a great found family aspect I absolutely loved. The secondary characters were all wonderful in their own way and added their own special flavor to the story.

The mystery/suspense aspect of the story had me at the edge of my seat, and at no point was I able to guess the culprit. With that said, the middle part of the story did drag a bit, especially with Niko's hesistancy to fully claim his mate. However, I did enjoy the story and look forward to reading more from this author.  I would recommend this novel to lovers of paranormal romance.

Niko is a grumpy vampire whose fallen for witch Francesca but cannot have her thanks to a curse…or is she the cure? Luscious Bite is a seductive paranormal romance from start to finish. The world-building mixes with descriptive narration, heart-stopping romance, emotional dialogue, and characters that’ll steal your heart to make Luscious Bite an unputdownable read.

Let’s start with the world-building. The world-building in Luscious Bite is exceptional and flawless. She creates a world that is realistic but with paranormal creatures. The paranormal world she’s created is distinctive as are the characters in this book. The world-building drew me into the story from the very beginning and kept me invested until the last page.

The characters are well-written and leap from the page. Niko is a brooding vampire who is relatable and quite fun to read. Francesca is a heroine full of light and sunshine who is full-figured. I love that Sara Ohlin wrote a plus-size healthy heroine. Her complex personality captured my heart. The rest of the characters add colorful depth to the story.

I read a lot of paranormal romance and I love finding books like this one. The writing is so immersive, I got caught up in the story and didn’t want to leave. Luscious Bite hits all my pleasure spots, and it’s one of the best paranormal romances I’ve ever read.

My Rating: 5+ stars

After being a fan of Sara Ohlin's contemporary romances, I was very excited to hear she had written a paranormal romance, featuring a vampire and a witch. Luscious Bite is romantic and passionate. Involving a fated mates plotline, the main characters are Niko, a tortured vamp, and Francesca, a witch who has always suspected there was something different about her sexy colleague. When some gruesome abductions and murders take place in their town, endangering Francesca along the way, Niko springs into action as a protective hero. However, his witch mate stands up for herself and is confident in her own powers. It's a dark story at times, as one would expect of this sort of paranormal romance. As far as content notes, readers can expect some descriptions of gore. There are also a couple of scenes in which fat shaming occurs, as well as the death of a child (not a main character) after a road accident. However, there are plenty of sexy and romantic scenes to carry us through to a happy ending, and of course, the villain gets what's coming to them. Overall, the author has set the stage for an exciting series. I look forward to reading more paranormal romances from Sara Ohlin!

Niko is essentially a vampire with PTSD and was then cursed by witches. Frankie is a doctor and kitchen witch with some trauma of her own. Frankie made her attraction to Niko clear but he shot her down. But unknown to her the decline wasn't because he didn't like her, more because he wants her too much but is afraid that she won't feel the same intense tug.

When Frankie and her niece and nephew are involved in a car accident, Niko jut about loses his mind and becomes uber protective. He essentially moved them in with him while she recovers.

As the story unfolds Niko and Frankie's supernatural traits become evident to each other and as more attempts are made on Frankie's life and those connected to her, Niko has to learn that he has to gamble on losing her to win her.

There were a few confusing things in the storyline, such as does Frankie become immortal if she mates with Niko? However, I did enjoy the telepathy and the kids attitude to the paranormal world was quite sweet and refreshing. The opposites attract storyline between Gia and a certain werewolf is calling to me and I really hope that Augustus gets a HEA too!

ARC Review: Luscious Bite
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️

"Lucious Bite" by Sara Ohlin is a captivating paranormal romance featuring Dr. Nikolav Sarkozy, a lonely vampire cursed to live without pleasure until he finds his mate, and Francesca Banetti, a joyful ER doctor with a hidden witch heritage. Their chemistry is electric, and the tension between Niko's desire and his determination to resist is compelling.

The story is rich with love, spice, and mystery, especially as Niko vows to protect Francesca from a sinister demon. The contrasting dynamics between Niko’s dark, brooding nature and Francesca’s light, playful demeanor create a captivating love story. While the pacing was uneven at times, the engaging plot and solid conclusion make it a delightful read for fans of paranormal romance, and fated mates!

This book was such an amazing read!! 🤧

I loved Niko’s character, he was so obsessed with Francesca but had to deny himself due to a curse. But the way he longed for her was so sweet and I could read about it all day 🥹

Francesca was a strong, badass character. She knows what she wants and she has no problem asking for it. But she had such a loving and caring side too!

The two of them together were explosive to say the least! Their passion flowed through the pages and I was always wanting for snippets of them together!

I’m super intrigued about Hugh and Gia! The tension between the both of them was so good! They are also going to be a perfect couple 🤭

I really enjoyed the slight thriller part to the storyline. In the blurb it says about a sinister demon threatening her but it was so much more intense than I thought. It really had me on the edge of my seat at some points but how it all ended was phenomenal!!

Grumpy vampire doc falls for sunshine witch—basically Twilight if Bella had a backbone and a spellbook.

I devoured this book like a midnight snack I absolutely wasn’t supposed to have—and I regret nothing. Sara Ohlin served up a spicy, swoony paranormal treat in Luscious Bite, and I was here for every delicious page.

Let’s talk about the FMC: curvy, confident, and full of sunshine and sass. A witch doctor who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it? Yes, please. Pair her with a grumpy vampire doctor who’s clearly in denial about how obsessed he is? Instant chemistry, major sparks, and plenty of heat.

It’s giving: "I’ll heal you with herbs and flirtation" meets "I’m immortal and emotionally constipated but I’ll risk it all for you."

If you like your romance with magic, mayhem, and a moody man who melts, this one’s your next binge. Not quite a full 5 stars—maybe a touch too insta-love for me—but still a total win.

I really enjoyed Luscious Bite! I connected with the author, Sara Ohlin, on bookstagram and was generously gifted this ARC. I thought this book was beautifully written. The author seems to have a gift for beautiful, flowing writing. The way things and places are described, using so much color and descriptions of scents, vividly painted pictures in my mind. The one place I felt those vivid depictions were missing was describing physical characteristics. I really had a hard time picturing Francesca and Niko in my head. I did love them together, though. There was so much angsty push-and-pull before they got together, and it made it so very hot when they finally gave in. There weren’t many supporting characters, but I do hope we get Gia and Hugh’s story soon!

I am very happy to have had a chance to read Luscious Bite. This review is entirely my own, and I am leaving it voluntarily.

What a steamy romance!! 🤩

I had a really, really hard time getting into this book. It was a slow burn paranormal romance between a witch and a vampire and unfortunately it didn’t hit with me 😭

The two main characters are supposed to be fated mates but they seemed to have no chemistry besides wanting to jump each others’ bones. (Which isn’t a bad thing and I enjoyed the steamy chapters!) Francesca has a demon after her and Niko is doing everything to protect her by keeping her at his house after she was in a serious car accident. The whole story felt rushed yet slow at the same time and I struggled to even finish it. I just wanted more plot wise since nothing really happened with the plot until the last 40 pages.

If you’re looking for a fast smutty paranormal romance though, this one is for you! 🩵

The MMC, Niko, is a surgeon and vampire, was cursed to be alone and not enjoy his life until his mate came along... that was a looong 700 years. The FMC, Francesca, is a healer and a witch who hides herself because of trauma in her past. They are fated mates and don't realize it at first other than the attraction to each other that they fight.

They are like night and day but want each other. They also work together. They end up being around each other even more when Francesca gets into an accident and he's the one taking care of her... even though she doesn't want him to. Not only do they have to navigate their feelings for each other, they have to take on the demon that is hunting Francesca and other women.

I really enjoyed this book. The pacing was really good and the steamy parts were good too.

I’ve reviewed some of Sara Ohlin’s romances and loved them. I was interested to find out what her writing was like in the paranormal romance genre.

I was hooked from the start by Luscious Bite: An Enchanted Mates Romance. Dr. Niko Sarkozy. He's a very well created character and reminded me of Carlisle from The Twilight Saga. He and Francesca were so good together.

The atmosphere of the ER was very realistic.

I enjoyed getting to know Niko and Francesca. Francesca's sister and nieces were realistically portrayed, too.

Overall, Luscious Bite: An Enchanted Mates Romance was so enjoyable. I'm really looking forward to the other books in the series.

This story was interesting and really grabbed my attention. The storyline was interesting, entertaining, romantic, and exciting, with some mystery and suspense in there and some spicy bits. The MMC, Niko, most definitely was a character; I did like him, but there were times when I was like d@mn. He knew how to rile people up without even trying, but he cares so deeply it's heartrenching. And, the FMC, Frankie, what a great woman. She was so caring, lively, and real. I really just felt for her at times. Now, throughout this story, we are thrust right into a whole hooplah of things with Frankie, but trust the journey; it was magical. This book is definitely going to be a re-read for me, and one I think any PNR would like too.

This author does list a few TW for the readers to look over before starting this book - please take advantage of this!

Luscious Bite is a great book for readers who love dark romance with dark topics and paranormal creatures.
The characters are completely opposites from each other, one bleak and miserable the other light and laughter. I love this because you get to clearly see what they offer for the story and it keeps it interesting.
The author did a great job writing the story, the flow and pace make it easy to fall into the story and wind up many chapters in before you realize it. If you can stomach the TW this is a good book to pick up.

3.25! ⭐️

I absolutely loved the storytelling in this book! The plot, the characters, it is magnificent. You’re instantly pulled in, and the romance between Niko and Francesca is just 🔥🔥🥵 Francesca is a badass, strong, kind, witty FMC that WILL NOT ANNOY YOU. Yes, I said it! 😂 There were parts of the story where the dialogue contained a lot of ellipses and hesitancy from the characters (them trying to find the right words) which seemed a little excessive for me personally, and a couple of action scenes I got lost with. Otherwise, I flew through this book and felt completely immersed in the world Sara created and I am SO excited to read about Francesca’s sister, Gia, in book two! 🤍

P.S. These are some of the most beautiful books I own. They are so soft and gorgeous 😭

What to expect:
- paranornal romance
- grumpy x sunshine
- vampire x witch
- forced proximity
- curvy fmc
- fated mates

i am a very big fan of supernatural/paranormal beings which is why i absolutely love reading books that involve that. and after being in a little reading funk, which a paranormal romance book is what pulled me out of, i keep wanting to read more of that genre. so i was really looking forward to this book.

it honestly felt a little bit like a supernatural version of greys anatomy at times. i really wish there were more hospital scenes. it also had a very cozy vibe while also being a little on the gorey side if that makes sense at all😂.

this book definitely kept me interested from the beginning and i can't wait to start the next one in the series.

I felt like I was reading a paranormal version ER mixed in with Grey’s Anatomy. This story has romance, suspense, mystery and a little bit of gore (if it is something you are sensitive about it would be easy to skip over!) I really enjoyed this take where the vampire was saving lives! Niko and Francesca have a connection and I would call this medium burn story.

“Which is it, you crave me, you want to protect me, or you don’t like me?”

Niko had been struggling for a while with his curse. He was a total grump to the point she doesn’t think he even liked her. They have this back and forth that builds some great tension. He is definitely protective of Francesca but she has some powers of her own!

She played into the sunshine trope perfectly. I loved how she would infuse magic into food. She gets to discover more about witches and her powers. There is a reveal at the end that definitely surprised me!

What to Expect:
🩷Paranormal Romance
🧛Vampire/Witch
💋Brilliant, Successful, Curvy Heroine
🖤Demons, Ancient Curses, Suspense
☀️Grumpy/Sunshine
🛁Steamy Scenes
❤️‍🔥Fated Mates
♥️Food as an Act of Love

This was a nice, cozy slow burn paranormal romance. Like many other reviewers have said, it’s the paranormal meets Greys Anatomy and I loved that. Despite being supernatural themseles (Niko and vampire and Francesca a witch) they both definitely fought their relationship as only humans can. At least humans have the excuse that we don’t have raged mates. But even while fighting fate and their feelings, they come together. All while also dealing with some darker things happening around them. The plot and overall story were well written and kept me engaged. It was an enjoyable book and I’m excited to read more from this author.

This book completely grew on me! The beginning I was confused as to where it was going and then bam! Drew me right in! The struggles of both the main characters was built so well I was on the edge of my seat! To be alone for so long(male main character) The slow burn is intense you are anticipating it waiting for it like a moth to a flame! Loved! loved! loved! How caring the female main was. I’m a sucker for grumpy/sunshine and this book delivers! Thank you for an awesome read! And who doesn’t love vampires… chefs kiss! -Kerin

The plot was interesting but I felt the pacing was a bit slow for the first half of the story as the focus was on the main characters' relationship and they were dancing around each other most of the time. The mystery that needed to be solved was touched on a little bit right until the last few chapters which seemed rushed. The big reveal at the end was a surprise I did not see coming. There are some unanswered questions though and I'm not sure if the series will continue so these get answered.

It is quite a slow burn for the relationship to develop. Niko is a stubborn heartbroken of a vampire with a lot of angst. While Francesca is certainly the opposite of him. In this world, the vampires are different, at least this one is from typical lore, and a few things did leave me with questions. The plot was good and interesting. It was a good read.

The description of this book did it incredible justice, unlike some others I've read previously with vampires involved. I loved that this book had a lot of darkness but was never really depressing (imo, but read the warnings). The romance was an incredible palet cleanser in the story and I drank the scenes down greedily whenever they showed up.

A wonderful read.

This is a well written paranormal romance with strong characters in Niko, a vampire and Francesca, a witch. The author does a great job developing the story and moves it fluidly with her descriptive scenes. She brings murder and mystery along with some steam and delivers a terrific read.

This book will throw you for a loop!

Niko is definitely an intriguing man
The way he treats Frances is beautiful even tho there is hurdles for him to overcome.

Vampires, witches, demons, and werewolves are all involved in this story and it is amazing at the things that occur.

I adored the relationships and the lines of communication
