Ms Kirk enchanted and mystical series returns. Taylor has come home to bury her father, she finds his favorite coat that he swore he would never get rid of in a thrift store. Taylor buys the coat back and takes it home to feel close to her father. Taylor has many things to decide about her father arrears especially his Private Investigative company and the staff particular his partner Jameson. As she ponders and begin trying to decide things she starts finding "magical" notes in her father's coat that he has written her that helps with her making decisions. Ms. Kirk's not only covers the spectral aspect of the story but touches on the subject matter of overcoming devastating things that hinders children that eventually becomes grownups and how they navigate their way to be and feel whole. This book showed the sweetness of a father's love for his daughter beyond death and a daughter who truly believe in the power of a loving father. Was giving an arc by the author.
Back to GraceTown we go with a new story with new characters and a glimpse of a few of old characters. This new book is called The Note Keeper and can be read as a stand alone book but my suggestion is to read this series starting from the 1st book. Taylor Higgs is back in GraceTown after several years due to the unexpected passing of her dad who was part owner of a Private Eye business there in town. As it turns out, she had just lost her job and had no commitments pressing, After spending the 1st night at her childhood home she was visited by one of her childhood friends in which they ran errands and ended up going to the town thrift shop. Looking around Taylor ended up spotting a familiar jacket that was a favorite of her dad’s. It looked so much like his but she could not imagine how it had ended up somewhere to be sold. In checking the pockets she found a note in the pocket which was so similar to notes that her dad wrote to her through her life. She was so sure that jacket was her dad’s that she purchased it. There was no way she would leave the shop without it Taylor continued her day by dropping by her dad’s office where she truly does not experience a warm welcoming by her dads partner Jameson Fox and the Office Secretary Glenda. As it turns out, through the last couple of years, Bob Higgs was the one who dropped everything and went to Taylor for visits due to her work schedule as a lawyer at a law firm. Thus, the resentment that was being felt by her dad’s close work family. With the estate lawyer not available at the start of Taylor’s visit she uses the time to slow down and realize there is life that is not all work driven, get to know Jameson and Glenda better and try to ignore her mom’s texts. Taylor and her mom had been estranged for years due to a divorce that took place in Taylors early teens. An event that Taylor never forgave her mom for. When the estate lawyer finally is available to meet with Taylor, she finds that her dad has left her his portion of the PI business. Lots of questions to be answered through the rest of the story. What is Taylor going to decide to do with her portion of the business? How will her relationship with Jameson and Glenda go? Will the notes continue in her dad’s jacket? Lastly, will Taylor find in her heart to let her mom back into her life? I received an advance copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book, as all the other books in this series will not disappoint you.
GraceTown is known for unexplained & whimsical happenings. This is the sixth installment of the GraceTown series and a very enjoyable and thought-provoking story. “The Note Keeper” can be read as a standalone but I would recommend the whole series as each story is unique and a pleasure to read.
Taylor Higgs unexpectedly lost her father and just a few days before his death, she lost her job as a corporate tax attorney in Chicago and also her boyfriend. How does one cope with such major losses? Taylor was very close to her father. Bob Higgs had been a good police detective and a successful Private Investigator who owned his own business. A ruptured brain aneurysm took his life. Taylor’s Mom and Dad divorced when she was in High School. Mom moved to California but Taylor, by her own choice, stayed in GraceTown with her father. Taylor had so much anger toward her mother for choosing a career over her and her dad. Taylor comes back to GraceTown to take care of arrangements for her father and to understand his wishes for his business moving forward. The greeting is not a warm one from her father’s business partner, Jameson Fox, and office manager, Glenna Kovacs. They both resent Taylor as she has not been back to see her father in a while and of course not knowing how she will handle the business moving forward.
Taylor is now faced with many decisions and they are overwhelming for her. Answers unexpectedly start showing up in notes that she finds in a jacket that she purchased from a thrift store, as she is convinced that it was her father’s favorite jacket. When she so needed direction in her career and love life and how to make the right decisions, the cryptic notes were appearing in the pockets of the jacket to help guide her. Making the right choices for the business, forgiving and reconciling with her mother, her career moving forward, reconnecting with friends from GraceTown and following her heart as her feelings become stronger for Jameson.
Cindy Kirk has once again penned a story that is a lovely romance, thought provoking and a great escape. Have you ever lost a loved one and then you find little signs or reminders that they will always be with you and guiding you. I love the quote from Cindy’s book that was a promise made to Taylor by her father: “Just like a compass, I may not always show you the way, but I will be there to point you in the right direction.” A fascinating story that I highly recommend.
I have loved all the GraceTown stories and love that they can be read together or as stand alone books. The Note Keeper is a lovely story of Taylor who has just lost her father. Taylor is a young woman who was very close with her father and had spent most her of youth living with him after her parent's divorce. Just before Taylor's dad, Bob, passes away Taylor looses her job and boyfriend, which had been most of her life the last few years. She was working to be partner at a lawyer firm who let her go after a big merger. Taylor's life was already in an unsettled place, but after this she is lost. Taylor decides to move back to GraceTown. Taylor reconnects with old friends and on a shopping trip finds a jacket that looks exactly like her dad's favorite jacket. She can't just leave it there and buys it. One night while sad and lost she puts on the coat and finds a note in the pocket. After ruling our every other option Taylor decides that the note must be from her dad. Bob owned a PI business with his partner Jameson. When Taylor and Jameson first meet conflict seems to be their only option, but they slowly build a friendship that might turn into more if Taylor can let herself. While Taylor is dealing with her father's estate, notes in the coat and a will that seems to make no sense to her, she is forced to realize that everything she knows or thinks she knows about her childhood and her mother might not be what she thought it was. I really like watching Taylor grow and see her and Jameson create a relationship and partnership. I hope they show up in another story and we can get an update.
I really love this series. I wish I could go to GraceTown and have a meal with all of the characters. Ms. Kirk has a knack for making her towns feel like home. I just want to curl up in GraceTown like it is a big fluffy blanket. This magical town strikes again. Taylor Higgs is back in her hometown after the death of her father. Taylor had been living in Chicago and recently lost her job. Perfect time to settle her father's estate. She was very close to her father and his death came as surprise to not only Taylor but everyone who knew him.
After discovering her dad's beloved tweed jacket at Nifty Thrifty, GraceTown’s thrift shop, weird things start to happen. Notes start popping up in the pocket of the jacket. Notes that are in her dad's handwriting that fit the situation. These notes seem to be appropriate for the time that they appear. They give Taylor answers to asked questions. The kind of advice her father would give her.
Taylor has a lot to deal with. Her father left behind a Private Investigator business , a business partner, Jameson Fox, and an administrative assistant, Glenna Kovacs. Jameson and Glenna spent the most time with Taylor’s father. How do they feel about a daughter that never had enough time to come visit? Taylor also has some mommy issues. GraceTown gives its inhabitants a way to work out the troubles in their lives. This book is no different. Readers will see Taylor grow and become the person she was always meant to be with a little nudge from beyond.
I liked the concept of the note keeper. Imagine losing someone you love but you still receive physical reminders of their love and guidance. Another example of GraceTown magic.
As much as I enjoyed the concept, I would have liked to see more of Jameson and Taylor's romance. At least I assume that was the direction they were heading towards. I wasn't quite sure based on the office scene at Christmas. There were a lot of warm looks, outings as friends and co-workers, etc. I just wasn't sure.
The only thing I could think about Taylor holding on to her anger for so long was that her walls regarding her mother were starting to crumble. I did think that her change in attitude after so many years of anger and hostility happened rather quickly and abruptly. Maybe it was just the right time for her to accept a different perspective of the situation.
I did like that we got to hear from Emily, even briefly. There were a number of life lessons woven throughout this story. It also had moments of being sweet, heartwarming, sad, and even a little frustrating. All in all, another good addition to the GraceTown series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Welcome back to GraceTown! First I have to say I'm sad that this is book 6 of 6. I have really enjoyed the characters in each of Cindy Kirk's books in GraceTown. GraceTown is a mystical place where things happen that can't be explained. In The Note Keeper Cindy brings back other characters from her other books. To me this enhances the flow of the story. The Note Keeper is a story about coming home to GraceTown after Taylor Higgs father has died. While in a second hand store Taylor sees an old coat that she believes was her father's but couldn't explain how it would have gotten there. While waiting to meet with the lawyer to go over her father's estate, she goes to his office and meets his business partner, he was a PI. There she meets Jameson Fox. He is very leary about Taylor and what her intentions are for the business. She comes to him about her father's coat and tells him how she found a note in the pocket after she bought it. Taylor is convinced the note is from her father. More notes seem to appear and Taylor needs to find out what they mean. Will Jameson help her to answer her questions? Will spending time together bring them closer together? Read to find out! Enjoy!
Gracetown is a place where things happen that can’t be explained. This is no exception. Taylor is back in town after her father passed away unexpectedly. Her life has been turned upside down over the past few months- losing her job, boyfriend, apartment and now her father. He has left her the house and the car so she has time to plan her next steps. While shopping at a thrift store she finds a jacket that she is sure belonged to her dad. In the pocket is a note. It’s something she finds odd but it could have easily been overlooked before being sold. But, there are a few more notes that show up and Taylor realizes that her dad is somehow still giving her direction in her life!
In the meantime, she meets Jameson, her father’s partner is his business. She and Jameson start building a relationship until they find out her dad left her his controlling interest in the company. Eventually they work it out and start working to build the business. Through this Taylor and her mom experience issues - Taylor believes that her mom left her so she has bitter feelings towards her. Her mom flies in and after some harsh words and arguments they work things out.
Overall this was a good book and I found myself pulled in quickly. I am hoping that the next installment has a little more about what happens with Taylor and Jameson.
I have received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.

Another installment in the Gracetown series. Taylor returns to Gracetown where she grew up because her father has just passed and she is there to not only handle his affairs, but decide her next step in life. Just shortly before her dad’s unexpected death, she was “downsized” from her job as a corporate tax attorney in Chicago.
Her father’s business partner, Jameson, had been told in the past that her dad would leave his portion of the business to him, but he had changed his will recently and left everything to Taylor. She had been a daddy’s girl and always resented her mother for devoting her life to a successful career and divorcing her dad and moving to California. There are always different layers to a divorce and to a teenagers memories of it. Taylor finds her dad’s favorite jacket in a thrift store and buys it up right away. Then she starts finding notes in her dad’s handwriting, guiding her gently into the decisions she must make.
Gracetown has a reputation for otherworldly happenings, and this is a intriguing example.
The Note Keeper is Ms Kirk's 6th book in the Gracetown series. Gracetown is a place where magical things happen & The Note Keeper is no exception. We are introduced to Taylor HIggs who has come back to Gracetown from Chicago to bury her father after his sudden death. While at a thrift store, Taylor finds a coat that is an exact replica of a coat her father used to have & buys it be close to him. She later learns that the coat was her father's & throughout the book finds "magical" notes from him regarding major decisions whilst back at home in Gracetown. Taylor not only has to deal with her father's death but also what to do about his PI business & his business partner Jameson. We also get glimpses of previous characters from Ms Kirk's Gracetown series which ties the book to the others in the series. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down as I needed to know how it was going to end & it didn't disappoint.
Gracetown has a reputation of helping certain people make life changing decisions. Taylor comes back after her father's death to figure out what she wants to do with her life. She has lost her job so is taking the time to figure out her future. She goes to a thrift store with a friend and unexpectedly finds her father's favorite coat there so she buys it. As the days go by and decisions need to be made she finds notes from her dad in the pocket of the coat. The notes encourage her to find a way to work at her dad's PI business with his partner Jameson. They also push her to mend the relationship with her mother that was broken after the divorce. There were some good points that were brought up during this time but I felt the transition between anger and forgiveness happened a bit abruptly. However, the ending leaves the possibilities wide open.
The Grace Town series is centered around a town where unexplainable things occur. In the fifth book in the series we meet Taylor Higgins who has moved back home to Grace Town, though not under good circumstances. She had been laid off from her law firm in Chicago, her boyfriend dumped her, and then her father dies suddenly from an aneurism. She is home to deal with his estate. She thinks things will be straight forward, but her father leaves his share of his PI business to her, instead of his handsome partner Jameson. Then the notes in the pocket of his favorite coat start to appear, the first one says “I love you, don’t sell.” Is her father still trying to guide her? This is a delightful story, and a great addition to this series. I received an arc of this book from the author for my honest review.
GraceTown series is one of my favorite. I love the community that’s represented and the feeling of peace I feel when reading it. I have to say though, this is my favorite one so far! Even though it’s not a mystery book, it starts with a little mystery/thriller feeling, and that roped me right in! (Do not go into this book looking for a thriller! I promise it was just a vibe!)
Taylor is going through a lot in this book. She has history she needs to reconcile, and the growth she goes through is amazing and very relatable.
My one complaint is that I wish the book was longer! I loved seeing characters from previous books in the series and I cannot wait to see who the next installment is about. While this is a series of stand alone books, I recommend reading them in order so you can fully appreciate the neighbors and townspeople.
Taylor Higgs’ dad always promised that he would always be a guiding force in her life. During her childhood, he frequently wrote her notes of encouragement. After his death, Taylor is in need of some guidance. Then, mysterious notes start appearing in her father's coat. With each message, Taylor finds herself piecing together not just her grief but also her path forward. She discovers strength, resilience, and the power of love to guide her through life's darkest moments.
This was another great story by, in my opinion, one of the best storytellers of our time. Cindy Kirk weaves a wonderfully romantic and mysterious plot around characters that are likable and charming but with problems and flaws that make them relatable. If you want a feel-good romance, look no further.
Sweet story of writing our own narratives can be so destructive
Overall I really liked this book and how it stimulated thoughts about my own life.
Taylor moves to her hometown after losing her dad and her job. She starts receiving "notes from her dad" in the pocket of his old jacket that guide her decisions over the next month. I enjoyed this little bit of magic, but I wish there had been a little more to finish this story part of the story like a final note or something.
She has a strained relationship with her mother and over the course of the novel we realize she has been navigating her relationship with her mom through her angry teenage gaze her whole life.
Taylor just lost her Father. She finds a jacket of his that she keeps finding notes in, she thinks they are from her Dad, because she recognizes his handwriting. Her Dad retired from the Grace Town Police Department, and opened a P.I. business. His partner Jameson, and office clerk Glenna, welcome Taylor. Her Dad left her fifty one percent of the business. The first letter she found told her not to sell. She tells Jameson, she won't be selling him the business yet. She uses her lawyer degree to help out in the business. Her and Jameson start a relationship on the book, very clean, only kissing for them. Another book in Grace Town is not coming out until 2025.
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Taylor Higgs moves back to GraceTown after her father passed and she lost her job when the firm she worked for was bought out and her position was deemed redundant. She isn’t sure if she will stay in GraceTown, but is taking some time to make decisions about her future while her father’s estate is getting settled.
She finds her father’s favorite jacket in a thrift shop and buys it. Having the jacket gives her comfort. Then she starts finding notes in one of the jacket pockets. The notes offer guidance just like her father used to do for her and, oddly, they are in her father’s handwriting. Are they another one of GraceTown’s unexplained phenomena?
Taylor moves back to her hometown to handle her dad's affairs after he passes. This story breaks our hearts as we learn Taylor saw her dad less and less as she stayed busy with her own life. How many of us are in similar situations with family members? In addition to rediscovering what's most important in life, our relationships and friendships as well as experiences, Cindy certainly invites the reader to put themselves in Taylor's shoes as the story is told from her point of view. This was a heartwarming book to read. The GraceTown series is one of my favorites because it explores the magic layers in life.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is a continuation of the Gracetown series. I think this series is pretty darn cool. Cindy Kirk does a great job with these stories.
Taylor is a very sweet person who has some issues from the past that she has not yet dealt with. Her father dies unexpectedly and she starts receiving notes in his favorite coat. She has ton deal with this and the fact that her father left her his share of the PI agency. His partner is a very handsome guy that Taylor is drawn to.
There are some unanswered questions from this book, so I hope there is a follow up so we can get the questions answered.
I loved the premise! Taylor gets guidance from her deceased father through notes that appear in his coat. There was a lot of soul searching in the story. Taylor had to grapple with her own life choices and her double standards for her parent's choices. She was "daddy's girl," to a father who put work before family, but she held bitterness towards her mother who also put work before family.
All of the characters were likeable--perhaps I'm the only one who prefers things this way. The ending was predictable, and the character arc took a strong turn right near the end.
All in all, I really enjoyed the book. It did NOT get bogged down in the middle like many novels.
Taylor Higg returns home to GraceTown following the tragic death of her father from a brain aneurism.
What follows is a tale of mystery and finding she maybe didn’t know her dad as well as she thinks she does. Her Mom showing up forces Taylor to realise that her Mom did the best she could to maintain a relationship with her after her parents divorced when she was 15, add in the mysterious notes that keep appearing in an old jacket of her dads that somehow ended up in a thrift store and her blossoming romance with Jameson you have all the elements that make this GraceTown series so fantastic.
I am continuing to meet new characters in GraceTown while I got to see some of the characters we met in previous books. Overall, I enjoyed the plot line, character development and was surprised by the feminist message in the conflict with her mother.
As much as I love the paranormal concept, I must admit that the physical manifestation in this specific book of paper with sometimes changing handwriting was hard for me to accept. Even as open-minded as I am, I found myself having to suspend disbelief to enjoy the story.
I received an advance copy and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
Taylor returns home to GraceTown after the death of her father, PI Bob. She has recently lost her job as a lawyer in Chicago as well has her boyfriend. She finds herself adrift, until she goes to a local thrift shop and finds her beloved father's favorite coat. She finds different notes in the pocket and decides that her father is still giving her advice through those notes.
It was great to go back to GraceTown, where events happen that are enjoyable to read. Characters that were met in previous books also make appearances.
A touching story of how one can find peace and hope by letting the unknown guide your future. Taylor believed sporadic notes found in the pocket of her late father's coat were there to help her understand what is next in her life as she relocates back to GraceTown. These notes help Taylor decide how to handle her father's business and deal with the strained relationship she has with her mother. I hope to see more of Taylor and Jameson in the future since the story felt like a start of something special. Great writing from Cindy Kirk as always.
Cindy Kirk is a master at weaving characters into each of the books in her series. GraceTown is no exception. You’ll get to know Choe and Emily a little better through their interactions with Taylor Higgs! Taylor just lost her job, then her father suddenly passes away! So what’s the third bad thing? They say bad things always come in threes, right? I guess you can count the reaction of Taylor’s father’s colleagues when she arrives in GraceTown…not very welcoming! At her lowest, Taylor discovers her father’s favorite sport coat at a thrift store! Her father always promised to be there for her when she needed him and, in true GraceTown fashion, he finds a way to still guide her through notes he leaves in the pocket. Taylor gets more than she wants as her father guides her into her new life in GraceTown by helping her see her new purpose and that his partner, Jameson, could be the love of her life!
GraceTown has quickly become a favorite of mine with just the right touch of *magic* and whimsy. This one allows Taylor to receive some encouraging words from her father who just passed through one of his old coats, and as someone who lost their father early in their life, I would love to have that connection. This was just sweet all the way around, I enjoy seeing little glimpses of past book characters and I can't wait to see who gets to experience GraceTown next.
I received an advanced reader copy from the author and publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.
Welcome back to GraceTown, the perfect all-American small town with a touch of magic. The Note Keeper is the latest edition in the GraceTown series. This novel follows Taylor as she returns to her hometown following the unexpected death of her father. In settling his estate, Taylor is forced to face her past and in the process, open her heart to new possibilities. Ms. Kirk does a fantastic job of bringing in just enough mystic energy to the story to keep make the reader believe in the unexplainable. This novel will touch your heart as you find yourself rooting for Taylor and anticipating each new note that helps steer her story.
I enjoy the touch of magic in the GraceTown series. In The Note Keeper the warmth of the magical comes in the form of notes that Taylor finds in different places, just when she needs a little direction, that she is sure come from her father, who has passed away, but always promised her he would help her find her way. I liked the theme of family and a father's love, and how Taylor comes to terms with her past. It's a great story that takes you away for just a little while. You get a few glimpses of other GraceTown characters, and that's always fun.
The Note Keeper is the sixth in the GraceTown series but can be read as a stand alone story, however I suggest reading the previous stories for a little character background of some of the secondary characters that appear as well as for the pure entertainment and delight of the series. Taylor Higgs has always been a daddy's girl, especially after her parents divorced and she chose to stay with her dad. After college, she moved to Chicago to work as a tax attorney and with the long hours she rarely made it home but now she has returned to GraceTown to deal with the sudden and unexpected loss of her beloved dad. Her dad promised to always guide her and now with his death, she is at a loss until she discovers a favorite coat of his in a second hand store. She purchases it and wears it to be close to him but as she faces different challenges she finds her dad is keeping his promise with little notes that appear in the pocket of the coat. If you have ever dreamed of just one more day or conversation with a loved one who passed, this story will give you the heart to realize that there are little messages all around, you just have to look. This is a beautifully written story with wonderful characters that will make you feel as if you are part of the story.
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.
