I loved this series when I was young - can't remember the age that I was - perhaps 11-13. I just know I loved these books!

Lisa We Miss You
It’s time for a new school year and all the Foxes are back in Suite 3D. except instead of Lisa arriving a tall red-haired girl shows up and introduces herself as Max (ine) Schloss. Shannon then finds out Lisa won’t be coming back to Alma this semester.

Shannon doesn’t really care for Maxie because she pushed for Lisa’s present, turned down Shannon’s offer to give her a matching bed-spread because she didn’t like flowers, made a joke about Gracie, then showed up to the Welcome Back Party Maggie and Dan thew with a pot on her head. She also took the job of walking Gracie that she and Lisa were gonna do, and she calls attention to Shannon while trying to give her a compliment.

Amy suggests they find Max a pen pal. Coincidently Mars has a new roommate (Paul Grant). Amy then checks Shannon on her attitude with Max. Because of that and Kate telling her about how she once had a roommate she hated but learned to be friends, she decides to be nice to Max. But her “nice” is mentioning Lisa every five seconds and cutting Max off and suggesting they do things she and Lisa did.

Shannon invites her out to get a snack and starts going on and on about Lisa and Max tells her to shut up (nicely) about Lisa. Then they fall out because of a difference of opinion on books. Shannon likes “serious” literature and Max wants to add science fiction books to the book fair.
The last straw is when Max wants to bring Gracie to the room, but Shannon says it's against the rules but then again starts a story about Lisa.

Palmer is also having a hard time because her step-sister Georgette is a freshman this semester and she thinks she’s a pest. Shannon actually tells that maybe they need to spend more time and to cut her some slack (snorts).

They all decide to get Max a pen pal and then broach the idea to her, but she’s not interested. It turns out Max overheard them talking about her from her room.

The Foxes share letters in the cafeteria and Shannon is shocked to find that Lisa is moving on and has made a new friend. Kate shares a letter someone put in the suggestion box with the Foxes about a clique of girls being snobby to her and they think it’s them.

Palmer decides to go visit her sister and. Georgette says she wasn’t the one that wrote the article. Then they make plans to hang out in Brighton that weekend.

Shannon tries to make up with Max by inviting her to her house for her Nana’s 70th bday party, but Max blows her off. When watching Max’s Dad’s new special with the rest of the dorm, Shannon realizes that not everyone thinks Maximilien is hilarious. Max is clearly embarrassed by him.

When they get back to school after Nana’s party, the picture they took with their pen pals is ripped. Shannon confronts Max who says she didn’t do it and asks Maggie to transfer her to a new dorm. When Shannon gets back Palmer says Georgette was the one who did it because Palmer forgot her promise, Shannon apologizes to Maxie and they bury the hatchet. So do Palmer and Georgette.
Inspired from a letter from Lisa -whose having a hard time making friends because a lot of people think she’s a snob because she went to boarding school and Betsy has been invited to join a girl’s club and she hasn’t-Shannon angrily writes an article for the Ledger about accepting people for who they are. Then she sends a copy to Max with a letter apologizing,

Shannon and Max bond over Gracie and then almost get in trouble when they take her to the room and Mrs. Pryn invites some visitors to view the suite. Thankfully Max is able to sneak her out in her backpack.

At the end of the book, all the guys come, and Max ends up winning the raffle with Shannon’s favorite author. But by this time Shannon likes Max and is happy for her.

They all surprise Max for her birthday and she ends up deciding to stay in the suite and also she decides she wants a pen pal.

My Thoughts:
“My name is not LIIIIIISA! Need her. Be on your merry little way! Oh no no she got nothing on me. Respect! Receive!” That’s the song that was in my head as I read this. The odd thing is Shannon to me didn’t give off “best friend” vibes. She gave off “other” kind of vibes for Lisa. When I was in the sixth grade I had a best friend that shared my name. We went to middle school together and at the end of the year, she moved to California. While I missed my friend horribly and we too wrote back and forth I did *NOT* throw her name into every conversation and throw her up in people’s face’s comparing them to her. Now I know that during this phase in teen girl books *that* wasn’t yet a thing buttt. Shannon was a lil too obsessed. Just my opinion. . Lisa actually when you think about it really wasn’t all *that* great because all she’s done in this series is obsess over Rob and try to do underhanded things to Shannon to beat her in student council. As a matter of fact, Lisa kind of did to Shannon what Shannon is doing to Max. She cuts her off and gives her suggestions that *she* wants. So I guess what goes around comes around. Amy is also weird in this because I can think of a lot of reasons not to date John but not to date him because his *style* is different (preppy) just sounds shallow. I thought Palmer was the shallow one. And speaking of Palmer, oh *now* you think John is cute and nice. When he was *your* pen pal you certainly didn’t feel that way. I’m not really sure about how I feel about Max. I didn’t really read a lot of the books with her when I was into this series a long time ago. She really wasn’t developed *that* much. But what I did like about her was that she was quick to put Shannon in her place. Shannon although this book played the victim “Oh she hates me. She hates me.” And while she did apologize never once did she realize that maybe not everyone wants to hear about how much I’m in love with Lisa all the time. People who do that are SO ANNOYING!

Rating: 5
Too full of Shannon’s obsession with Lisa. I did love the book fair idea. I remember in elementary we had one but it wasn’t nearly that elaborate. I think it might have just been a mobile book store.

I was really surprised and put off by the way Shanon acted in this book. I didn’t enjoy this one nearly as much as the others in the series so far.
