He demanded to know her identity after she felled his attacker with deadly precision. But Dara Alexander feigned amnesia rather than reveal the truth to this blue-eyed Bedouin: she was an American soldier behind enemy lines. For all she knew, this man was her greatest threat.
Sheik Saeed ibn Ahmad was no nomad, she would learn at his desert encampment, but a powerful royal, the target of assassins. Suddenly, his protection became her assignment an arrangement Saeed refused. Because she was a woman, Dara assumed. And she was right. But Saeed wanted her to cherish and defend.

5 Stars! ~ King Mijad of Beharrain has his sites on recovering land from Yemen that he feels had been stolen from his ancestors. His greatest obstacle is his cousin Sheik Saeed, from whom he had stolen the monarchy. Saeed had journeyed to his Bedouin camp in the desert, in the hopes of shaking off the assassins. Dara is an agent for the SDDU, and while on a mission in Beharrain to stop a shipment of smuggled arms, her plane is shot down. Saeed finds Dara unconscious in the desert. When they are safely in camp, Dara contacts her superiors and her mission has now changed. She is to protect Sheik Saeed with her life and help him defeat his cousin and take the throne.
From the moment these two meet they are swept from one threat to another. From assassins and sand storms to imprisonment and rebellion. Their growing respect and admiration for each other only fuels their sizzling attraction. Amidst all the danger, they fall in love, and share some really spectacular love scenes. This is a five star rating all the way!
SDDU = Special Designation Defense Unit; an elite group compiled of agents from all the US agencies; CIA, FBI, SEALs, Special Forces; the best of the best.

A very surprising step above anything that I expected when I picked this up. A Harlequin sheik trope that somehow manages to not be "just another Harlequin sheik trope". Marton created contemporary characters that broke from the archetypes they were sketched from, lending more depth and modernism to what is normally a very formulaic trope. Still a romance, still a Harlequin, but with enough original spin to stand out from its counterparts.
