FIRE AND ICE WERE ALWAYS A DEADLY COMBINATION

Savvy and headstrong, former special agent Tessa Nielsen could handle whatever the Alaskan wilderness threw at her: extreme cold, polar bears, even her arms-dealer captors. But what she couldn't handle was being so close to the man who'd returned to "rescue" her. Three years earlier, Mike McNair had taken her innocence, then terminated her from Special Forces. But his gallant reappearance made one thing Alaska-air clearthe heat between them was still scorching. Now, without CIA sanction, Tessa and Mike alone had to brave frigid environs to stop a shipment of nuclear warheads from leaving the country…using only their witsand their warm bodiesto stay alive.

Another great read by Dana Marton. I am easily getting addicted to her books.

Nothing that I didn't say in my previous review of her other book I read.

1. Well researched: I am learning so much more about the continents and survival skills from her books than I did in my schooling days.

2. So. Much. Action: Her books are the written equivalent of the James Bond franchise. Addicted here 🙋‍♀️

3. Admirable MFCs: This one here is military. She is the perfect combination between feminine and badass. Love her feisty spirit and her vulnerable self.

In this book though, they have history. He hurt her, not intentionally, but he did not go after her. I think the reason for their 3 year separation wasn't very convincing. You are military people. Communication is key!

And something that rubbed me the wrong way. After 3 years of knowing nothing about her, he's told that she has been kidnapped in Alaska. He goes AWOL, jumps to her rescue, confesses she's the only one he's been crazy about, convinces her to give them another chance, drops a hint that he's in it for good (think marriage) but after all that at about 95% into the book and while there's a gun pointed at her head he "suddenly" realises that he is in love with her! Noooooooo... you don't say!!!! 🙄

Man! You uplifted your entire world and career to save her and convince her to get back with you, if that is not love I don't know what is 🤷‍♀️

Like her other books though, romance is there but it kind of takes the back seat in the overall plot. The perfect balance between romance, love and action.

Tessa Nielsen
Mike McNair

Tessa and Mike were in the Special Forces together until Tessa was released. They had a relationship then and Tessa caught Mike in a compromising position and didn’t hang around for the explanation. Mike has since joined an elite group and goes awol when he finds out Tessa is in trouble. Tessa and Mike have to get past their past in order to survive. I liked Tessa she is independent and can solve problems. I liked Mike, he is loyal and is trying to fix his relationship with Tessa. This was just a good fast read. I would read more books by this author.

SDDU #5

4 Stars! ~ Three years ago, Mike blew it with Tessa. When the Special Forces training went wrong, and Tessa ended up in the hospital and denied a place with SF, she blamed Mike. All it took was one more betrayal and she was gone. Mike always meant to find her and make it up to her but he'd been recruited by the SDDU and out on long missions. Tessa's been on assignment with the Army Corp. of Engineers doing testing in Alaska. She and her partner are attacked, leaving her partner dead and she captured. When Mike learns that Tessa's missing, he goes AWOL from the SDDU to find her. When he rescues her from her captors, he finds he's got even more trouble. They've stumbled onto arms dealers smuggling nuclear war heads to Russia. And even though the chemistry between them is still explosive, Tessa's never forgiven him.

In the three years apart, both Tessa and Mike have changed. Tessa's matured. Mike's found that he's grown above that good 'ole boy attitude he and his pals had in the SF. Mike learns that part of loving Tessa, is trusting that she can look after herself. Tessa learns that she can trust Mike with her heart, and that his love won't smother who she is. Another great read from Ms. Marton! If you love action and adventure combined with passionate romance; you'll love this book! I did.

SDDU = Special Designation Defense Unit; an elite group compiled of agents from all the US agencies; CIA, FBI, SEALs, Special Forces; the best of the best.
