About the author

Alec is a cartoonist who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been self-publishing his Ignatz Award winning comic book PHASE 7 since 2002, and his Eisner-nominated webcomic Isle of Elsi since 2016. To pay the bills, Alec works as a freelance illustrator and a comics educator.

I was a fan of Longstreth's ever since reading his Dvorak manual a few years ago. This book takes us behind the scenes, backwards and through the series of life events that begot the comic artist he is today. An engaging narrative that deals with the highest euphorias of art-making as well as disappointments and compromises along the way. After reading this, the reader can forgive him for laboring so long and lovingly over Phase 7.
