I have never read a financial advice book with a story so shocking that it made me gasp, until now.
Be Good With Money begins with Michelle Arpin Begina sharing how her parents mismanaged her college fund in such an egregious way that it shook me to my core. It didn’t just shock me; it changed the course of her life and lead her to being a financial advisor and counselor.
The focus of this book is changing myths about money you may have been raised with and healing any money trauma that you have experienced along the way.
Like many people, I was raised in a family where we didn’t discuss finances, and I never knew how much money we had. There were certainly no lessons on how to “handle” money. As an adult, I struggled to know what to do when I was faced with financial decisions. I don’t think I was alone in wandering aimlessly through my finances.
In this book, Begina helps you examine the emotional drivers that affect how you view money and you are guided through different transformational concepts that help lead you to financial security. She makes complex issues seem simpler, and gives you tools to better understand what she means.
This is “big picture” money management which can help how you handle your business and personal financial decisions.
If you feel like you haven’t got enough money, even though you make enough money, this book will help you find out why you spend money the way you do. If you haven’t started planning for retirement, or are afraid to think about the future with your money, this book is a place to start.
Taking the emotion out of money and how you handle it can be a scary thing. This book offers practical advice but also helps you navigate how you feel about decisions you make.
As of June 2024, this book is available for free in Kindle Unlimited. I read it online and bought a copy so that I could make notes in the margin.

I received an advance reader copy of Be Good With Money from Netgalley and thoroughly enjoyed it. I frequently read finance books, but this must-read was different in an amazing way!

Begina establishes her expertise from the start as she shares her financial journey WHY. From there, the reader is challenged to explore habits and beliefs surrounding financial choices. In addition, she provides actionable steps to change your money narratives. Thanks to her, I uncovered limiting thoughts and vowed to shed toxic childhood moneyisms.

I highly recommend this book to anyone willing to do a deep dive into their financial life.

A practical book on mindset and money

I enjoyed reading this book and the exercises raise a lot of interesting and important points. I especially liked the focus on talking about money and how that can change our relationships, and the secrecy bias which makes it so hard to talk about! I have read a few books on finances and haven’t seen this focus before. It really got me thinking. A really good read, and practically useful!
