Well, this is the second book and another fantastic end to an out of this world dystopian Omegaverse series by Addison Cain.

I was very sad to see Cyderial and Lorieyn’s story end but this series was everything I have come to expect from this amazing author. Hot chemistry, strange mating techniques, crazy storyline, dominant male and strong heroine, and an ending like no other! I literally could not put this book down so be prepared to hunker down and enjoy this crazy ride you won’t want to get off.

In closing, I wished I could have left more stars. Definitely a must read for all Omegaverse enthusiasts and you will not be disappointed!

Also, please Addison write another book about General Thayer and Maeve’s story. This year would be an added bonus! 😊 ❤️💕

I enjoyed reading both books in the series, it was a reunion with my favorite author. The world she builds in her works is her own and authentic. Her writing style is unique and recognizable, like a royal and non-transferable seal. She loves her protagonists, suffers for them and evolves through them, to bring more light and hope in a world that is too dark.
I share her vision of a humanity that advances in its destructive and devastating role, just by seeing and reading our human realities. I admire Addison's fidelity to the characters she creates and I admire her even more for having deepened and perfected her masterful writing. I always look for her among the new publications, because she maintains her own light and voice even among many very talented authors.
This last duet, His Darkest Deceit and His Darkest Devotion, was expected and anticipated. I feel vindicated knowing that even in the cruel world of the omegaverse, light and hope make their way for her genuine characters: Lorieyn, with her radical naivety typical of teenagers raised in military isolation; and Siderial, a general in love and obsessive slave to his passion and armed with more than a hundred years of difference due to age, experience and accumulated knowledge.
I just want to thank Addison, her masterful pen and her creative courage that does not shy away from telling stories that make her detractors uncomfortable. I appreciate her tenacity and ability to continue deepening her talent with each of her creations.

Wow. It’s official—this is my second favorite story written by Addison (just right after Alpha’s Claim). I have no extra words to add other than I just loved this. The ending to this book could not have been more perfect.

”You wish to be angry that I hold you above all others, that I would keep you safe? Then hate me. Hate me forever, if you must. It will never stop me from loving you.”

Also Addison, count me in as someone that is very interested in Thayer and Maeve’s love story, should you choose to write it! 😍 Even though the romance between the two protagonists in this duet is complete, I need more of this world! It’s brilliant and utterly addictive!

P.S. If non-con is a dealbreaker for you in romance novels, I recommend sitting this duet out.

Disappointing

After the first book being so good I was disappointed how this one turned out . The majority of book was boring and repetitive with the MFC debating with her mate and self about the politics of their world . The little bit of action was at the very end . This seemed like a filler book which annoys more since I purchased it and Addison books are usually worth it .

No HEA Spoilers

I bought this book because of the promise of a 'satisfying' happily ever after. I didn't think that would be possible after the SA in the first book. It wasn't. I was looking forward to seeing how the author was going to write a redemption arc... But none came. The antagonist did not change at all, he didn't need to do anything but play the long game and the protagonist just simply capitulated, and that was that. She gained so little, sacrificed everything and gave up her dream. This was a dark omegaverse romance that bordered on horror for me.
Having said all this, I think the author is excellent at setting the scene, creating strong characters, and generating emotion from the audience. I can imagine some book club debating whether love really is just drug induced control and sexual addiction with physical and psychological power struggles thrown in.

Yes Alison Cain has finished a series! Her own words :)

A nice treat, and somehow I liked this second book more than the first. Even though I rated that one 5 stars as encouragement and out of joy for a new Addison Cain book.

The characters grew on me and it’s a nice follow up to read what happens in their lives together.

Although I am happy to say I’m not a human living on that hostile planet.. Humans are the bad guys apparently.

And well there were some very funny biology things going on while the main characters had intercourse..a bit too weird for my liking. The nesting of the fertile egg took forever for instance.

But I liked it, it was a fun read. All in all 4 stars for an omegaverse book.

better than the first

I had to get bought into some of the kinks in this book, but ultimately I loved how her treated her and it was a good story. I’m waiting for Thayer and Mauve’s story.

worth reading every word

This second book was amazing. I enjoyed every page the descriptions of the life that Loriyen lived drilling & techniques taught them to protect the humans . Cydriel's strick life that he as a high ranking officer gave him 10 years to wait for his mate with her totally oblivious too her future. lorilyen's human birth mother whom she loved 🥰 was amazing but was explained to her by her mate that all is not as she thought & expecting from her human family. But because of his love ❤️ & steadfast devotion to her gave her sexual pain & pleasure & comfort and safety to which She was extremely resentful angry and upset over the loss of her dreams for her stolen the future, and for the extreme lifestyle that she was brought up in, but then told by her mate the reason for the lifestyle that was forced upon her, was to actually save her life & other hybrids like herself. The descriptions of the places that they dwelled was amazing with the care that Cydriel gave her was above what other males would give to their female mates .The females didn't totally understand what was happening to them, and she was as spiteful as he was patient & his with his knowledge learned by his educating himself would bring her out of her resentment in order to accept and love him, but she did make sacrifices that others might not have understood. The females lives were ignorant of what was going on with their bodies and being Taken by their mates that heard their song, and the females had no choice in the matter, but she finds out later that he was perfect for her, and his care and consideration of her was his way of showing, how much he gave his devotion to her excellent read, loved it loved it loved it

4.5

There are several homonym errors in this book as per usual for this author, but these books are excellently edited other than these few mistakes.

Book 2 in this duet is a lovely told sci-fi romance - which is honestly hard to find in a lot of sci-fi romance, the format is too short to tell the stories of the world they are set in and their purpose is generally the lurid happenings of the main characters and not their journey. Don’t get me wrong, there are many lurid happenings here as well.

This book is an example of the way sci-fi tells poignant stories of social struggle and change all while our characters struggle and grow within the limited world they live in. The hybrid world a balance and imbalance between compelled animal instinct, cunning strategy and consent.

This was not just the story of the bond of the main characters, though there are plenty, bordering on too many of smexy omega-ish times. But this story is of the struggle for the freedom and equality of the hybrid women and children in this world and the hope for future generations.

I really enjoyed it.

I loved this book. Nothing was left on the table in this conclusion of Lorieyn and Cyderial's story. What I like most about this book was the political undertones of the hybrid/human relations. Lorieyn quickly realized that she had a ticking time bomb on her hands in the form of her brooding mate. She couldn't afford to sit around and wallow in self-pity and instead took control of her life and future. The ending of this book was incredibly satisfying. I will be rereading this series many times over.

THRILLED!

I was so pleased with this sequel. The story carried on beautifully and I sincerely hope that there will be another book to explore Maeve’s bond with Thayer! It was refreshing to see the human race get what we deserve in science fiction, for a change. We have such a heartbreaking history of death and destruction, and the twist to this tale was well received. Excellent writing!

Prepare for no sleep

Once I started this series I had to finish it. For those who know Addison's books this is Shepherd worthy reading. Addison has a dark twisted soul, I wonder if we're related? Honestly, Addison is a mistress of dark steamy violent romance. there is an art to making a reader love the villains, and Addison is a true artist

Didn't think it was possible

I adore Addison Cain's writing, and until this story I didn't this I could love Character as much as I love Shepard from Her Born series but oh boy does the hero here come very close. I love, love, love this series. I want to know Every thing, how did it go for her friend, who will the princess choose when she grows up, everything!

There are two categories of readers:those who hate it and those who adore it. To make people feel both is a great accomplishment, and I love the author for daring to write this kind of controversial material, because of tons of mwa-cliches books, you have a feeling, is the same sentence million times repeated.
Really like the world-building, please continue!!!

I loved both books and couldn’t stop reading. There is a bonus chapter that you can download. There are so many couples and I’m anxious for their books: Maeve and Thayer, Miranda and her Beast, and princess Estemione. Who will she choose?

where to start?! Well, I think I can say that I didn't like this series, I don't know what possessed me to read books like this, they are not pleasant readings, there is no appreciation in that. Of course I understand the appeal of intense readings, but these are not in a good way.
I love my possessive and devoted alpha male, but there was something very wrong with H, his possession didn't attract me or make me like him more, I saw that the author loves a sleazy character who will never change even when he finds "his love." life". It made me think about what she saw as so cool about making women doormats and reduced to despicable objects and males who deserve to die, at the very least.
H was loyal and possessive, ok, but he had such a mastery of manipulation that it made me uncomfortable and I felt like I wanted to run for the hills, I understand the comments of others when they said it was like a pedophile creating his prey, I think even Even the author has her scruples, any self-respecting author will not go that route if they want to continue with their career.
There is nothing beautiful or romantic here, it all came down to submission and disrespect, I felt very sorry for her, she was completely trapped by that idiot, but I was upset that sometimes she gave in very quickly and that upset me, I didn't judge her because she liked being with him, but like this he was almost bearable when he was silent, but when he opened his mouth it was downhill. All he said was: accept it or suffer the consequences.
I hated everything he said and I felt that urgency to finish the book to read more even though I couldn't put it down, but I realized that I don't want to read books like that anymore. I'm not saying I'll never read it again, but from now on I intend to avoid it at all costs, I'm not benefiting from anything by reading this.

This part of the story is like if Stephenie Meyer made a spin-off just about Jacob imprinting on Renesmee when she was literally just born but like turned up to a thousand.

Okay. I don’t mind if a book gets dark, but the type of dark needs to make sense in the wider context of the story. It’s just fucking gross having these explicit depictions of alien sex which is mostly non consensual, then springing in a plot with the potential grooming and trafficking of children that aren’t even born yet in the name of female empowerment!? Like actually what the hell am I reading. The whole alien omegaverse thing isn’t for me, and that’s okay. I think the first book was alright though it had nothing on the shepherd trilogy and even the spin off of that.

Besides that disturbing plot line, the story dragged. Multiple scenes stretched across chapters, reiterating conversations that had already happened. And because of how it ended the first book could’ve been a standalone and it would’ve had the same impact. Cyderial and Lorieyn were not compelling at all. I preferred them both respectively in the first book. Here Cyderial’s sudden personality change from daunting authority to a doting, grinning, winking simp was off-putting and I can’t really express why.

I kinda wish this book just left that couple in the background all together and focused on Maeve and Thayer. I feel like Maeve’s ambition and intellect and Thayers power and almost herculian level of ambition to have her would’ve made for a more interesting story, and I could’ve tolerating the 120 year age gap since in their case, Thayer hadn’t have been pining for Maeve since she was 12…

Tldr: if you’ve read the first book, don’t bother with this, unless you’re just here for the alien sex scenes, in which you will be well fed here, u lil freak.

You must read book 1 before you read His Darkest Devotion. He was so obsessed with her. He did bad things. All he wanted was for her to love him and to have kids with her.

I really hope her friend Maeve and General Thayer get a book.

If you like knotting and fluids and the alpha and omega theme, then I highly recommend the two book series Insatiable Instinct by Addison Cain.

Book 1 is His Darkest Deceit. Book 2 is His Darkest Devotion.

MAJOR TRIGGER WARNINGS. THIS IS A DARK ROMANCE.

She is 22 and lives at a mandatory academy for all hybrid kids. Humans tried to colonize a dangerous planet. They mixed human DNA with a local predator. She has claws and scales. She can live centuries.

Female hybrids can put themselves on the list, to be matched to a mate. Or female hybrids stay at the academy until they graduate. She hates the academy. They bre@k bones as punishment. They exec@te students who fail. She wants her freedom. She doesn't want a mate.

He is obsessed with her. Male hybrids hear a song if they meet the right woman. The problem is that her song might call to more than one guy. The men will fight to the de@th over the woman. So the women are strictly separated from men until after they are mated.

,,,, He f@rces her to have sex. She says no and f@ghts him and he overpowers her. It is very upsetting. He won't let her leave him. He won't let her have the job she wants, to explore their planet. He wants her to be a teacher and stay at the academy she hates so she will stay safe for him.

Eventually in book 2 she finds her power and uses his love for her to make changes to their society. He basically burns the world for her.

I'm leaving my review for both His Darkest Deceit and His Darkest Devotion here. Just much easier to process since I read both in like 12 hours.
Oh and also this is available on the author's website. Both novels!!!! This series is actually finished! And it's cheaper on her website than Amazon.
HEA.
Dub-con. Non-con. Omegaverse. Alpha men and all hybrid women seemingly like omegas.
First person point of view. Lorieyn's POV only.
Age-gap.
Both the lead male, General Cyderial, and lead female Lorieyn, were virgins. These hybrids mate for life, males hear a song, both have odd drumming in their chests, and primal, primitive claiming sex. Some other odd things were the bulging belly's.... You will know what I mean if you read it.
In the first novel Lorieyn was a student breed to protect humans in an academy ran by a huge, tyrannically crazed man.... General Cyderial. Unbeknownst to Lorieyn they are mates. She hates him, he is obsessed to the point of rape for her.... Kind of like Shepherd and Sovereign in Addison's other novels. Cyderial was kind of a mix of both of those men. I don't how to explain that other than those comparisons... It wasn't a bad thing. Cyderial was utter devoted, in love, obsessed with Lorieyn. He did hurt her though. Of course he did. This is an Addison Cain novel, so our female has to struggle, has to endure, and has to decide to move forward with a mad man.
They get their ending. And oddly enough Cyderial's devotion was something I loved. He didn't cheat on her like Shepherd did Clair. He doesn't share her with any of his kind like Sovereign did Sigil. Which makes me love him even more, although he was overbearing.

Now that I have read the duet (ie both books), I would say that the concepts were interesting, particularly the physical aspects of the lovemaking. That was sometimes difficult to follow, though. It wasn't necessarily sexy. I love how primal their relationship can be, but I didn't get into the romance of that relationship, and I didn't get much emotional depth of the characters, again. The author skipped over any kind of internal struggle through Madeleine (?), and then suddenly the FMC is leading the group and their King and Queen.

Overall, interesting concepts, including the moral situation set up in the beginning (ie meeting your mate when she is twelve). But I didn't get much yummy hints of his struggle or that much of how his attraction played out in their daily lives at the academy as she was growing up which would have made the story more romantic and interesting and dark. Although I can understand maybe why she would exclude this, too, if she didn't want to offend readers.

My growing attitude is that while her fan base seems to call for her to write more prolifically and quickly, I would prefer that she spend more time building her characters and world. However, I believe she is writing a lot because she has a lot of ideas and concepts. I am just disappointed that that is preventing her from really developing depth in her stories.

On to some of her other books, both better known and lesser known.

2 1/2 stars 🥺

Hear me out, I love Addison and every book she's written. in fact I stan her. Her writing style is always so poetic and rich. Her stories are unique with single alpha/omega couples and doesn't bombard us with harems of 500 alphas and 1 omega like most authors do. (Guuuurl when you can't remember every alphas name in a book and start to get confused because theirs too damn many of them, then we have a problem lol.) Addison gives the old dark romance Omega verse fanfic vibes, and when I say dark, I mean dark. Not pitch black but you know what I mean if you've read her books. Again freaking love her books.. (Devoured, where you at guurllll!! I neeeed you!!!)

Book 1 of this series was awesome. It was packed with tons of story building and betrayal, crazy new body parts and just a new species in general. It was so well thought out and just beautifully written in the way only Addison can do. Cliffhanger was dope. when we pick up on book 2 I just felt like it dragged tremendously. Nothing was happening and I just felt like we were looking at an every day life with nothing exciting to build up the plot. Even the grovel was let down kinda. I know Addison was going through a lot during the writing of this book so I totally get it and I still recommend any book of hers because, let's be for real, she's Addison mother F'n Cain....just book 2 wasn't as I hoped it would be. Still love her, and can't wait for Devoured 🖤
