Luke and June… best friends to lovers
Book 3 - Faking it with the Mountain Man - Luke and June
This one is a best friends to lovers. They know each other since kids and have been inseparable. They like/love each other but never have explored the romantic relationship so they don’t ruin their friendship. He strikes her a deal without taking into consideration that things would change between them. It’s weird that if he didn’t see her as a romantic partner, why did he get aroused when she was talking to him too close, in a secretive way about what she is writing in her book (which is smut)? That should’ve been an indicator that he still had feelings for her. Imo. It was a little exasperating for me to read how they loved each other but didn’t do anything.
And then there is the comment (that comes from Book 1 btw) about him being a mountain manwhore. From Book 1, I was reluctant to read about Luke because of this. I don’t like H with a manwhore past. And then in this book, #3, there are comments that are kinda contradicting, so I don’t know what to think about Luke!! Take for example this first quote:
«The girl (talking about June) walks off with more of my shirts than an actual girlfriend would. Not that I’d know. Despite the rumors.»
From this quote I thought that he didn’t have close enough relationship for girls to have his shirts, at least they didn’t come to his house. But then I read this:
«I really need to get out and start dating. June's right. I do have a reputation for being a mountain man-whore, but I earned that reputation by being a big flirt, and not from actually whoring my way through the female population like everyone seems to think. I've never had a serious relationship, true, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like one. Eventually. Most of the girls I dated in high school were jealous as hell of my friendship with June and never lasted more than a few months. The women I dated as an adult had the same problem. Jealousy isn't cute on anyone, and I'm not ditching my friend for someone who doesn't understand our dynamic.»
He is a BIG FLIRT. He’s never had a serious relationship, which is ugh to me because what is he gonna offer the h, another fling? He dated girls (plural) in high school and women (in plural also) as an adult. So, he has dated a lot, in a non serious way. Something I really hate about the H. I will always want for the h a clean, know what he wants and doesn’t fool around H with very little to no experience at all. Preferably the no experience, a DV with each other’s firsts where they explore together. Because the heroine deserves the best even more when she hasn’t been with someone else. During their first time, it was evident that he had some experience. He knew what he was doing, how he coaxed her. It was super hot! But I had his past in the back of my head which made me cringe a little.
After their first kiss, he was stupid enough when he simply left her at her apartment with a pat on her shoulder and left, almost running. Leaving her hurt. But after his talk with his associate, he decided to go back and tell her he loved her. It was hilarious. He even proposed and she didn’t believe her and went to bed to sleep. She even told him to leave. But he didn’t let her push him away. And he did a very unusual tactic to convince her 🤭. I loved it. It was really spicy.
Overall, if you jump over his past, it is a good read.
