This is a really uplifting study on the book of Daniel. I listened to the audio version and the narrator was easy to listen to. I would have liked a hard copy, since there were many quotes I would have highlighted.
I especially appreciated the encouragement to read the actual text before focusing on that chapter or section. Doing so was extremely helpful, and I recommend others follow suit!
(There were a few statements near the beginning I didn’t agree with about God’s sovereignty vs freewill of man, but I didn’t notice any more of that the rest of the book…so maybe I misunderstood the author.)
Love Nancy, usually love her books. I’ve read 4-5 of them. This one fell flat for me, and was highly repetitive. It could have been 50-100 pages. Nothing necessarily bad or alarming in the book, just not for me I guess.
This was a little book but jam packed with life changing truths! Over and over the theme HEAVEN RULES interwoven with the book of Daniel and applications made to our daily lives. The author shares more of her personal struggles as this book was being written.
There is absolutely nothing that happens to us big or small, tragic or mudane in our small microspic world that is not allowed to happen by a Sovereign God. And this should comfort us!
Excellent! Everyone should read this book. She says, “Heaven rules means He is sovereign over everything that touches us….. He is ruler over every diagnosis and prognosis, over all incomes and outcomes, over the most daunting challenges as well as the most seemingly trivial details of our lives. ……. Heaven rules is a right-sizing truth - putting our view of God, our view of ourselves, and our view of our problems in proper perspective.” A great study of the book of Daniel.
This insightful study of the book of Daniel opens your eyes to the truth that Heaven Rules! God rules over every situation and circumstance we find ourselves in, just as He did in Daniel’s day. The author challenges believers to view the events of our lives from God’s (or heaven's) perspective in order to avoid the discouragement and despair that would settle in if we view them through earth’s perspective alone. As always, Nancy’s writing is biblically sound and filled with true hope. She challenges believers to know their God and make Him known.
I read this book at book study-one chapter a week. It’s a study of Daniel and how nothing surprises God-because Heaven Rules. We had challenging discussions each week. I highly recommend this book.
For all of the miraculous works God performed through and for Daniel, it’s important to note that God never delivered Daniel from Babylon. Daniel lived his entire [adult] life as an exile in a foreign land, as a hostage in a culture that was hostile to his faith.
Daniel outlasted or influenced 13 kings & 4 kingdoms.
Events that touch our lives are purposeful.
Being counted as among the people of God does not exempt us from the ordeals of living in a sinful, fallen world or from the rising floods that flow from it in all directions.
For every event we can see here on earth, there is another, truer heavenly perspective.
Remember what God has done in the past Rely on His character. Rehearse His promises. Refrain from taking matters into your own hands. Don’t let fear drive you places where God doesn’t want you to go.
Wherever trouble is present, God is more present.
When we’re in a crisis, we react based on whatever we’ve been most accustomed to thinking about and seeing and believing and experiencing. & If we been in the habit of dwelling on God’s truth? If that’s what we have been regularly saturating our minds and counseling our hearts with? His truth will settle around our hearts in that moment, sheltering us, providing a safe refuge, even as the storm or flood strikes.
These unwelcome interruptions, detours, and trials are often God’s ticket to our testimony. They provide a platform for us to make much of our Father in the eyes of a watching world— or simply in the world eyes of one other person who desperately needs to know that He is real and He is good.
We never know what we’re stepping into when we choose the worship of God over what comes more naturally to us: the fear of man, and the tendency to prostrate ourselves before earthy powers, trends, and demands.
Shadrach, Meschech, and Abedego: They were no longer in control of their day, but they were still in control of their worship, and they would not relinquish that, under any condition.
None of the authorities over Daniel ever believed as he did… yet He added value to every area in which he served. He showed respect.
This book has so much rich truth in it. The book of Daniel is more than just a story about a man thrown into a lion's den or 3 men refusing to bow down to the idol. It will give you a tiny glimpse into how God is always working behind the scenes and His rule and ways will always come to pass. In the midst of so many problems and heartaches and anything else that you can conjure up in your mind, God is still a good God and He always knows what He is doing. We can trust His kind and loving heart. Read this book and be encouraged to see everything from God's perspective, as much as our finite minds can fathom from this side of eternity. He's working things out for His glory and our good.
This book was really inspiring! But for me it was a little hard to get into at first because it felt like reading a lecture. Overall I gave 4 stars because by the end of it I was filled with a new kind of hope!
Un excelente análisis del libro de Daniel en el que la autora se enfoca en la SOBERANÍA y PROVIDENCIA DE DIOS. “Podemos tener consuelo mientras caminamos en esta tierra porque nuestro Padre gobierna desde el cielo"
In her book Heaven Rules, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth shares how choosing to take to heart the two-word phrase of the book’s title is the key to calming our fears and finding our courage amid a chaotic world. Nancy teaches her readers that “Heaven Rules” (sometimes abbreviated as “HR”) can become a powerful mantra that can keep us anchored to the truth of God’s word, reminding us that God has control over the micro (the tiny details of our personal circumstances) and the macro (the big picture of what’s happening in your life or even the world). By walking through the book of Daniel, we learn about the prominence of this theme through the book, as well as the consequences when even the mightiest of earthly rulers choose to ignore Heaven’s rule. She even tackles the prophetic half of the book in a way that is contemporary but also biblically sound.
This book is inspirational, as it challenges its readers to use “Heaven rules” as the lens through which they view and interact with the world. It has the power to calm our worst fears and anxieties, give hope to those who feel hopeless, and inspire courage in the fearful. With these powerful and biblical sound teaching at the forefront, this is a book that I highly recommend. Get your copy today!
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review
This is a great feel good book. Though there is a lot of potential here, the was liberal with the eisegesis. It would be much harder to sell a book with a focus on "God Rules". So, the author uses the trend of being enamored with heaven and focusing on a place being ruler rather than God. Even rewriting ideas from God to heaven. Heaven is a place and can not rule. God, the ruler of heaven AND earth is the one on the thrown. Yes, Ms. DeMoss is clear that God is ultimately ruler, but the narrative of the book focuses on heaven rules, thus seemingly softening the power of God being The Ruler. Honestly, I think there are better themes for Daniel without needing to twist stuff to fit the title. There are also several places of obvious misinterpretation of scripture that can easily be seen by reading context.
Even before I finished the book I was recommending it and buying it for someone. It is so encouraging and grounding in our crazy times. Nancy is so insightful and shares those insights with such clarity and humility. Everything in her book is biblically based in truth on the book of Daniel which I have read and studied before. But she brought new wisdom from it. I had always looked at it from more prophetic value but this book pointed out how Daniel was surrounded by a culture that was so crazy and yet he remained true to his values. He led with integrity and was a wonderful witness of God's sovereignty. It is a practical tool for how to rise above whatever circumstances we face and live with trust, serenity and confidence in God's rule.
If there is one thing or maybe two things I learned from this book, it is "God is in control" and "Heaven Rules" (HR). I liked that she shared from the Book of Daniel to compare with how life just is. There are the good days, the bad days and the horrible days. Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth does a lot of sharing as well in this book about her husband's journey with cancer. I read this book to a disabled, blind person in a nursing home because she was interested in the author. I found Wolgemuth also had a "Heaven Rules" daily prayer book out as well and decided to buy that book as well for this year and I read the day's prayer when I talk to my friend in the nursing home.
Such a beautiful overview of Daniel and the theme of "heaven rules" and how this impacts our daily lives. It should change the way we see others, the events around us and the purpose of our lives. He rules. We do not. Heaven rules. My circumstances do not. Heaven rules. I am called to pray and live boldly and confidently in that Truth until He comes again. Wonderful balance of depth and easy-to-read style. As always, Nancy is biblically sound and practical. I've underlined many parts of this book and look forward to revisiting it soon. A highly recommended read!
"Heaven Rules" was a lovely reminder that no matter the circumstances, God is in control. Coming out of my hardest year yet, I really needed the reminder that no amount of anxiety and panic is going to "fix" the situation. Only God in His love and mercy will see all things through according to His will. With 2023 right around the corner, my hope and prayer is that I keep an "HR mindset". Because through it all, He's always been good. To Daniel and to me!
The author walks through the biblical book of Daniel show how he and his friends relied on the knowledge that God is always in control (heaven rules) no matter how dire the circumstances. If you are familiar with Daniel, you know there is a lot of prophecy and imagery that can be very difficult to understand. She moves through those parts at a high level, not trying to interpret them but pointing to how Daniel reacted and to how God is still in control.
This is an excellent book and one I would encourage all to read based on God sovereignty. And the excellent way that Nancy Demoss exposit the book of Daniel throughout the whole book showing Daniel’s courage and faith in God through all that he encountered. Also referencing the things that are happening in our world today and how they relate to God ‘s sovereignty how Heaven Rules. This is a must read for all …
This had to be my most impactful read this year. A message that I needed. HR. Heaven Rules. We can take comfort and courage, God is in control. Loved the real life examples and practical words of action. The words in this book will stay with me forever. Will re-read. Would recommend this to anyone who’s ever experienced pain, disappointment, anxiety, longing, fear, frustration, loss…this book is for everyone.
The best book I've ever read . Yours in Christ love Gary
A very good Christian friend Gave me this book to read After reading the 1st four chapters I decided I wanted to read It on my kindle So I ordered it from amazon And gave the book back to my friend So he could get it into someone else's hands I would like to see every Lover of god to read the book
An insightful read, delving into the story & trials of Daniel, to help the reader better grasp the goodness and sovereignty of God, regardless of life circumstances. Remembering that Heaven rules & God wins inspires believers to hold to an eternal perspective when dealing with the hardships of life.
A fantastic read that takes a deep dive into the book of Daniel. It highlights God's goodness, provision, and care in life's darkest and confusing seasons. I enjoyed the historical tie-ins, Biblical commentary, and personal applications. If life or your circumstances feel out of control, I'd highly recommend this book.
An encouraging and timely read that all believers need to be reminded of- Heaven Rules! We don’t have to despair or be afraid or discouraged from life’s circumstances, world politics, evil rulers, rampant lies and perversion- the Ancient of Days is on His throne carrying out His will and purpose in history. We can rest in that; we can rest in Him.
