Truth Endures: Anne Boleyn's Memoirs

Rate this book
It has been almost 500 years since my beheading. And still, people talk about me.

Some of the stories are real. Others could not be more distorted. The time has come for me to tell my own tale.

This is my memoir.

I, Anne Boleyn—originally a maid from Kent and, in the end, England’s Queen anointed—will share the unfiltered version of that epic time. My how I met, loved, and married Henry Tudor—King Henry VIII of England—one of the most powerful men on earth. It’s surely not a tale for the faint of heart. But, if you wish, join me as I reveal the candid details of my tumultuous life. And then you, too, will at last know the truth ... and the enduring power of my legacy.

I grew up in a historic area just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the US. Being surrounded by some of the oldest houses and buildings in the United States, along with historical reminders of the Revolutionary War, I developed a deep and abiding fascination for all things archival: events, fashion, mannerisms, houses—also words and language. I earned a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University majoring in both Biology and English. Along with graduate studies, I did scientific research for global companies, followed by a long career in human resources for the R&D division of one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. My intense focus on people and their behaviors has informed how I develop the characters in my writing.
One of my favorite historical periods is the sixteenth century– primarily the English Tudor dynasty. What could be more engaging and impassioned than the dynamics which ruled the Court of Henry VIII?
With keen fascination for the breathtaking life of Henry’s second queen, Anne Boleyn, I wrote about a love story for the ages. Truth Endures, Anne Boleyn’s Memoir: a novel, tell the tale of of Anne and Henry, a pair matched in brilliance but ultimately tortured by their liaison.

I am a devotee of research via original sources and visit the sites frequented by my stories’ heroes. Viewing letters and documents they touched and wrote, and those read with their own eyes, is a thrill which is hard to describe. Whenever possible, I examine objects which belonged to them so many centuries ago. A moment I’ll never forget was the opportunity to hold the beautiful Book of Hours in which Anne and Henry wrote messages of love to one another. Paramount among thrilling historical exploits was the privilege of visiting the Papal Archives in the Vatican Library twice, to view the original love letters Henry penned to Anne over 480 years ago.
Investigations in the British Library Archives led me to surprising new information about a mysterious letter, which many believe was authored by Anne while imprisoned in the Tower of London awaiting execution. I published my discoveries and the updated findings in a new edition of the nonfiction study, Anne Boleyn’s Letter From the Tower.

Some of you know how much I love Ms Vasoli and admire her work. Before starting to analyse the book, I would like to express my gratitude to her and my eternal thanks to her for sending me an e-copy of her book to the best of her ability and at the risk of all kinds of difficulties.

She never surprises again. With her strong writing technique and knowledge of history, she draws the reader in like a vortex. Vasoli offers us all a completely different personality from the stereotypical Anne Boleyn type. In this book, Anne Boleyn was strong, intelligent and mesmerising, just like the book. Vasoli has revealed Anne's every behaviour, especially her infinite self-confidence and arrogance, in an absolutely impartial and unambiguous manner. Her meticulous research makes the book a pleasure to read. Moreover, after the description of Anne as a ‘shrew’ or a ‘wh*re’ as I mentioned in the previous sentences, here we see how educated Anne actually was. Ah, the love between Anne and Henry was presented to us in such a sincere and real way that it was as if I was really in the novel and I was with Anne and Henry. The most important and most overlooked characteristic of Anne Boleyn that attracted my attention in this book was that she was ‘generous’ and ‘philanthropic’. I would like to add that the fluctuating relationship between Anne and her stepdaughter Mary was also very well expressed. Vasoli understood and described Anne's difficulties and troubles very well.

Vasoli creates a vivid portrait of the early days of the love affair between the vivacious and exotic Anne Boleyn and her paramour, the glorious King of England, in stunning detail. Each scene is carefully crafted to bring the heady atmosphere of the English court alive. Far from the usual caricatures, Anne is fully-developed and complex-witty and intelligent, charismatic and enchanting. Importantly, Vasoli never shies away from the brassy and brazen threads in her character. Supported by painstaking research, the scorned queen's harrowing hours in the Tower of London and final plea for mercy will at turns agonize and enrage. And yet, like Pandora's jar, there is still hope contained within the pages. Anne's legacy and truth do indeed endure through this poignant and heart-rending memoir.

Truth Does Endure

An insightful read about Anne Boleyn's rise to Queen of England. King Henry VIII obsessed over her for years, turning the world on its ear just to have her. A fantastic journey through this volatile love affair without casting Anne as the Great Whore, but rather a bright, strong woman who finds herself in love with a king. Absolutely recommend reading Truth Endures: Anne Boleyn's Memoirs.
