Grave Love

Our desire ends in death.

Working at a funeral home provides the perfect opportunity for me to get rid of the evidence. As I’m investigating the property, I find a woman indulging in intimate “self-care” among the dead.

Ren works at the mortuary too. Every day, she buries herself in her self-loathing, using pills to numb her senses. As I stalk her, I learn that more than anything, she wants to be sensually used until that bitter end.

I see her An empty void. A vessel waiting to be filled. A toy for me to break.

We make a deal—I’ll use her to practice my murderous craft, and in return, I’ll help her end it all.

As we near her final days, I realize that torturing Ren with pleasure and pain is the greatest high I’ve ever known.

Then a rival takes matters into his own hands, giving her the ability to finish herself. I won’t let that happen.

I’ll force Ren to realize that not only do I own her final breaths, I own her death too.

Don't Fear the Reaper...

GRAVE LOVE: A Dark Stalker Romance
by Audrey Rush

No spoilers. 4 stars. Some of us are afraid of death. It's the Big Unknown, vast and empty...

Some are shocked by death, while others don't give it the time of day until it is too late. Others seek it out as a means of relief...

What happens when a suicidal woman meets a serial killer? Each has what the other wants and needs...

This is the (love?) story of Ren and Blaze. Both are mortuary employees...

Ren operates the crematory, but after hours, she sneaks back into the mortuary to pleasure herself, with a bag over her head, wearing the clothes of the dead...

Blaze is the gravedigger. He likes to do the opposite of what society expects of him. He's also a serial killer and voyeur...

One night...

As Ren is engaged in the act, the mortuary door bangs open. Footsteps and whistling...

She's been exposed...

A killer and his prey, he says: Hello, little corpse. I'm here. I see you...

What interests Blaze about Ren is her emptiness and lack of life. The only things that seem to exist in her world are desire, pleasure, and pain...

Blaze begins covertly stalking Ren. She may be exactly what he needs. He could blackmail her with what he saw...

But first...

He'll have to get to know her. If she wants a taste of death, as she seems to, he'll force-feed it to her...

Ren mixes sleeping pills and wine nightly. She would like to kill herself, but she hasn't figured out how to do it yet and still keep control of her worthless life...

Blaze wants to help her out with her death problem, but he wants all the power and control in the transaction...

He, and only he, will take her life... and then, when and how he decides to do it...

Don't fear the reaper. We're all just bags of meat in the end...

First, don't even consider this book if you are squeamish. This is extreme horror. It includes violent and explicit sex of the backdoor type. Suicide is explored. Serial killing, rape, assisted suicide, and drug abuse are a big part of the story.

If you've become desensitized to this kind of story, you'll probably like it, but don't go into it expecting a traditional love story. It is a love story of the sickest type.

I liked that, after all was said and done, the story had a good ending (as good as a story like this could have). For those who thought that this story was over the top in the extreme, I've read much, much more extreme. I reference WOOM by Duncan Ralston and NO ONE RIDES FOR FREE by Judith Sonnet.

No animals were harmed in this story.

I've read two of Audrey Rush erotic horror novels and was very hyped to read a dark romance from her. It definitely have romance in it and a HEA but darker then some dark romance. I loved it and will hopefully get more of her books in the future. But very very heavy on triggers around suicide thoughts and behaviour.

I absolutely loved this book.

It is extremely dark, and can be very triggering. Audrey Rush is not afraid to push boundaries, and the story doesn't end in a typical HEA.

It's addicting, it's well written, it's a beautiful wreck. Blaze and Ren will be unforgettable to me.

‘Simply brilliant! - though radiantly black’

Power and control mixed with a real sense of utter valuelessness - everything is nothing, and vice versa.

Largely set in a funeral home, this is the ultra-dark tale telling the story of the strange, unique and positively unusual ‘romance’ between a serial killer who gets his ultimate high having sex with his unfortunate victims as they draw their last breath, and a woman who is so full of self-loathing and worthlessness that she just wants to die - but can’t quite bring herself to commit the final act.

A wonderful sexually explicit love story between two people who fall way short of mainstream normality that agree on a pact which would serve and satisfy them both.

Some of the description is just fantastic, and although often powerfully hard-hitting and extremely adult in nature, never in all my years of reading ebooks have I highlighted so many vividly imaginative phrases and paragraphs. I genuinely couldn’t get enough!

Maybe not for everyone, but if you are seeking a romance which is downright black, graphic and so very, very different, then ‘Grave Love’ perhaps can surely not be surpassed.

Highly recommended for fans of ‘Dark Romance’ that enjoy adventures set within an abnormal and highly adult context. Absolutely loved it, and will definitely be reading much, much more from Ms Ruch in future.

Rating: 4.8 dark stars of pure goodness.

“You’re my fucking mess. My bloody little corpse. You hear that, Ren? You’re mine. Until the day you die. For the days after. Until both of us are worm food, and the world doesn’t remember us anymore. You. Are. Mine.”

I need god after this.

I think it's a great book if you can handle the kinks.

Tw: necrophilia, blood play, knife play, drugging, choking, cnc, noncon, stalking, gory almost, and the hero fucks his own biological mother for revenge

Hear me out.
An actual good strong book.

Plot:

Blaze is a killer whose tastes run darker than usual. He is very much into necrophilia and ...things of that manner.

Ren and Blaze both work in a funeral home. Ren wants to die because she feels her life is worthless. At night she would go into the crematory and steal clothes from corpses and touch herself. Blaze caught her once and he set sights on the woman.

Soooo...
They strike a deal.

He wants to kill and wants his next kill to give him the same rush as his first. She wants to die. They have the same ....dark tastes with sex.

He promises that he's going to kill her when she least expects it and if he cannot do that before her birthday he would give her the drugs that would kill her.
It's a win win. He wants to kill and she wants to die.

They fuck in grave yards and coffins and throughout this time blaze falls in love with her. He makes her happier and they find that they really do have a great big connection.

“I see what you’re doing, Ren. I see it in your eyes.” He slaps my face. “Don’t you dare go there. Leaving this place like you don’t belong to me. I took it from you, and you’re not getting it back. So just fucking stop.”

He starts making her see how pretty life can be but she still wanted to die because her mind trained her to think that. He knew he would never give her the drugs so she could take her own life..

My eyes well up with tears as I stare at the bag’s contents, sorrow squeezing my chest. I can’t control it. Someday, I’ll screw it up. I’ll ruin things for Blaze, and I don’t want to wait for that day to come. The only way I can be right for him is to be his next victim. The willing one. His practice run. The one that helps him find his rhythm here.

She sneaks behind his back and gets herself the drugs and overdose when he finds her and gets her back on her feet.
Blaze believed that her death was his and HE would decide when she died and it wouldn't be like that.

“You killed him, but you can’t kill me?”
She’s not shocked that I killed someone in front of her. She’s jealous.
And that hurts.
I want to punch her for being so stupid and kiss her for the simple fact that she’s alive. For the fact that she can scream. That she can cry. That there is still air in her lungs. That her pulse still races.
It races for me.

He did actually change her mind by the end and got the girl and they both decided that Ren dying wasn't happening. And they would rather welcome their deaths when it's their time.

We’ll probably die in some boring way, like old age, or perhaps a disease associated with it. And I know us; when that time comes, we’ll laugh at the pointlessness of it all.
And I’m okay with that.

NAH I ACTUALLY LOVED THIS BOOK WTF.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Before I start this review, we need to make a few things clear : This book is for those advanced in dark romance only. For the people who do not mind reading something incredibly disturbing, with characters who aren't just morally grey, they are legit commiting evil acts, for their own selfish desires. If you aren't sure whether you can handle reading this, check the trigger warnings to make sure.

This was such a cathartic read. Between all the fucked up acts commited by either of the mcs (but ESPECIALLY Blaze), I found so much comfort in the representation of depression. Ren is one of the most realistic characters I've ever read about in terms of suicidal ideation. She doesn't want to exist, she wants to die, but at the same time she doesn't. She thinks of herself as completely worthless and thrills at the throught of being useful for anyone even if that person is a serial killer, who she has a sex contract with.

Blaze? Oh dear god where can I possibly start with characterizing him. One thing I appreciated a lot, is that the author doesn't down play the cruel acts commited by him, and while she uses his traumatic backstory as an explanation on WHY he acts the way he does, it's not used as an excuse.

There isn't much plot in the book,as it's more character driven than anything. Actually the one star missing from my rating is exactly because I disliked the plot point involving Blazes brother.

Overall this was such a wild read 100% recommended for fans of dark and I mean DARK romance. The epilogue was also FANTASTIC, such an absolute perfect way to end the book!

i’m in comfort from the depression of this story.

OH MY GODDD!!!!
I was so excited for this book since i got to see a tiny sneak peak and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
I inhaled these pages. Literally inhaled them.
This story is dark and heavy, and so are the themes in it.
Sewercide is the centerpiece of Ren’s life. It’s everything and anything she wants. She has all the details planned out. She knows the way she wants to go, and Blaze is happily filling the role of her torturer and killer. They dance around her murder, and every time they go a touch too deep, another crack forms in the wall between them.
Ren longs for death, her depression is blooming. Blaze longs for the kill, his hate towards his mother and childhood consumes him. And that’s exactly what glues the two of them together.
Blaze is far from a good guy. He is deranged, creepy and scary. He takes what he wants and doesn’t care about others.
Ren sees the person he is, but she understands, she welcomes it, even though she should run from him.

“My life and death doesn’t make a difference.” is the line that broke me. I’ve felt this way for years.

“No one will ever compare to Ren, and that kills me.” is such a wonderful way to say that your deeply disturbing obsession is turning into love 😳

“Bitch, he looks like a murderer,” her blond friend says. “Let’s go.” I SWEAR I WAS HOWLING FROM LAUGHTER AT THIS, because he in fact is a murderer

Before diving into this book, I strongly recommend that you read through the TW list. It was much darker than most books I’ve read so far.
I wouldn’t say this was a dark romance book only, for me this is a horror story with romance and spice aspects through it, and I loved it!
5/5 ⭐️ from me!
Audrey did an AMAZING job with this one! I am so so so happy I got the chance to be a part of this ARC team 💛

This book was creepy good!! we have Serial killer/stalker Blaze who is enjoying his hunts sees Ren doing something she shouldn't and he's intrested in her, he's curious about the things she does. She Masturbates in the morgue in dead peoples clothes and tries to somewhat get close to death, but she's too scared to finish the job. A plan comes to mind for him blackmail her and getting what he wants a willing toy to do all the messed up things he enjoys without killing her.. yet.

He stalks her for a while, learns more about her sad life and well one night, he screws her when she's pretending she's a dead girl. Ren poor girl thinks she's all messed up, and once she's caught by Blaze, he explains his plan she doesn't say yes right away she takes her time. But once she does all bets are off the twisted games he plays, they start growing feeling for each other, and Ren starts changing her tune about wanting to die. Plus, another person gives her the keys to "ending" her life. That's when things turn even more for them.

For the safety squad, he isn't with others he tries but nothing sexual.

Low angst, No ow/om drama, no cheating, drama, sexy times, no virgins (serial killer aka H sees all people as less than human, including the heroine. At times, he also tries to force himself on other female victims; however, he abandons this goal. There is no cheating)

GRAVE LOVE [2023] By Audrey Rush
My Review 4.0 Stars

In my opinion, Audrey Rush is an exceptionally gifted author. She does a remarkable job in breathing life into her characters in the pages of her books. I have been impressed by her sensitivity to providing Trigger Warns, on Amazon, in the book, and even on her web site. “Reader Discretion is Advised” indeed.

The Cover Art is really nice, colorful, eye catching. However, in the case of this book, it is not the only complement I have to offer.

At the very heart of this novel, you have one sick boy and one sick girl. Mentally, of course. Though during the novel Ren did not eat hardly anything, so perhaps with Ren mentally sick and physically sick. Seriously, Rush does very well with the forensic psychology of the novels of hers I have read.

Blaze is at the time Ren meets him is a practicing serial killer of young women with blond hair. It is suggested that he sexually violates them during their murder by likely choking or strangling. His sexual fantasy is easy to understand. His mother was a dominant figure who was yes, blonde. She permitted if not encouraged strange men with aberrant sexual appetites to anally rape him as a boy and to physically cut him repeatedly. His younger brother was spared this sexual abuse and physical torture. Gage hates his mother, and he kills her time and time again, reliving his fantasy.

Ren is weak and has no sense of self or identify. It is suggested that her mother was suicidal and hanged herself due to her mother’s disapproval, cruelty, and lack of caring. In turn the grandmother would not allow Ren to have a final gift from her mother or even see her mother after her death. Like daughter, like granddaughter the control freak of her grandmother is pulling the puppet strings on Ren.

Ren is an emotional and physical masochist who sees death as an end game for her. She does not really want to experience dying but rather just not wake up. She is seen lying on the table in the funeral home, wearing the clothing of a dead woman, and in search of satisfaction while she visualizes violent rape and dying.

Quite the pair, but their dance of life and death casts a spell over the reader after a while. Blaze experiences a kind of confusion and woe when his emotions and desires begin to betray him, and when murdering a woman does not move him at all.

The journey that the reader makes with these two characters almost endears them to the reader. I felt for them. The push-pull of this relationship was repetitive and nerve-wracking. You can feel the boy’s pain, and then his struggle to untangle the cords of his emotions that are strangling him. His vacillating desires to kill or protect are battling with him. It is much the same with Ren but she is an emotional coward, watchful and savvy about what he says and does, she knows how to translate even his most subtle nuances. When she intuits that he wants to keep her alive for him, she feels compelled to run away and end it all because it could never last. Exasperating.

The final act was very satisfactory for me as a reader, and I felt that Blaze could move past his pain and gradually acknowledge his love for Ren fully to himself and there would be no more need or desire to murder “substitutes” for his mother.

I would have awarded 5 Stars but for the epilogue about a year later. The story was aggravating yet ultimately rewarding, and the epilogue came out of nowhere. Say What?

EROTIC HORROR IS JUST NOT MY NICHE BUT A MOVING STORY

I should probably see a therapist.
Will I?
No.
Will I continue to read novels like this?
100% Yes.

I honestly thought I would've DNF at some point because of the trigger warnings but I was consumed from the beginning. All those kinks and things that should've disturbed me, simply did not. Can someone tell me why I loved it?

⚠️ ‼️SMALL SPOILER‼️⚠️
The only part that I wasn't okay with was the brief break up that they had. I cried my eyes out. Why? Because I don't handle emotions well.
That's a me thing. Not the book thing.

My Ratings:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🌶🌶🌶🌶 - The spicy chapters: 6, 12, 17, 21, 23 & 26 ~ Enjoy 😉 but PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS ⚠️

Recommend? Yes but be cautious. There's heavy talk of death and suicide and murder, amongst other things.

Ren is fucked up and wants to die.
Blaze is fucked up and wants to kill her.
So they make a deal.

~
"Be my fuck toy, and I'll kill you when you least expect it."
“This is crazy,” I whisper. “It is, isn’t it?” he says. “Honestly, Ren, we’re two sides of the same coin. We could make each other— dare I say it?— happy. We belong together : the killer, and the corpse. We complete each other.”
~

Throughout this deal, he calls her 'love' or 'little corpse'. You know mans got it bad when he started calling her 'my love' and 'my little corpse'.

~My love? When he calls me ‘love,’ that’s all it is. A noun. Never a possessive. Never his love.~

~
“What’s her name?” Brody asks. “My. Little. Corpse,” I say, growling out each word with punctuation, emphasizing that she’s mine, and mine alone.
~

Safe to say I really loved this book. Good job Audrey Rush and I'm excited to see what you do next.

⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️
Please do not take the warnings lightly. Take breaks inbetween if you need to. This is a DARK DARK ROMANCE. Heavy and dark.

Trigger warnings, people! Read them!
For seriously, if you have triggers, make sure you review the warnings for this one.

Now, Audrey holds a very dear place in my heart. Her books are prized possessions I display proudly on my top shelves. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. I am an Audrey-forever-fan, if you will.

Grave Love was an ARC that I was sooo desperate to read. I consumed it in a day's time. I could not set it down. And truthfully, I will likely re-read it once the physical copy becomes available to us.

The depths to which Audrey goes to ensure that we are fully submerged into Blaze and Ren's world and that we can truly understand their pasts and their reasons for believing the ways that they do, is such a raw, emotional journey.

Blaze is unhinged, primal and downright damaged. Although he harbors these qualities plus a ton of other deranged attributes; his longing for Ren and what develops inside of him after meeting her is honestly beautiful. He lowers his walls and starts to realize things that he actually wants out of life. And Ren is where all of that lies. There is one specific scene in this book that, as simple as it may have been, had me tearing up. To me, this exact moment is where you witness Blaze's true intentions and love rip through all of the dark, evil exteriors that we had been seeing before this.

Ren is desperate for acceptance and love. Watching her story unfold and experiencing the strength that Blaze helps her find in herself makes this story all the more enjoyable. Just the right amount of tragedy, spice, romance and darkness. Blaze and Ren are such a unique couple that both were created by the devastating beginnings at the hands of their mothers. And I have to go back to what I said in the beginning- check your trigger warnings and do not take them lightly. This book has some seriously dark themes and troublesome past experiences that are brought to the surface.

I love this story. As always, it rates a 5/5 stars from me. I can't wait to see what everyone else who reads it thinks.

Brava, Audrey! You've done it again.

This is actually my first read from Audrey, and it was on hell of a dark ride. This has so many triggers, that if you're new to reading dark romance, I would read a few others before diving into this one!

Ren and Blaze are definitely not your average couple, one's a depressed crematorium worker and the other is a stalking serial killer. It definitely makes for one hell of a read though.

I couldn't get enough of this dark read.

That was wild and messed up and I definitely didn’t expect to cry at the end of it but sometimes certain things just hit you right in the feels in amongst the most messed up books. If you’re squeamish I wouldn’t recommend it but if you like wildly disturbing and gross reads with smut and a wealth of trigger warnings then this may be for you.

and ren is just like me (uninterested in absolutely anything)
in my humble opinion 🥹☝🏻 blaze would've never killed ren ever!! there were elements or chapters where i went “oh this man is unhinged to the next level” the epilogue was so adorable and kinda like the cherry on top of this cake
I'd be looking forward to more Audrey's books YAYAYAY 🫶🏻

ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review

Honestly this is the most dark and disturbing book I’ve read. It is VERY heavy on the dark. She clearly warns you about the TW ⚠️ so do not take this lightly. Some may find it completely disturbing and will not finish it. So please read the warnings and really consider if this is for you.

I don’t like quitting on a book but I’ll be honest it was a little out of my comfort zone, however, it does suck you in and make you want to know what happens next.

Even though I wasn’t a fan of this story I give it 4 stars because Audrey’s writing pulled me in and made me want to push through it.

I went into this book blind. I’ve been reading stalker romance, and that’s exactly what I typed into Amazon when I sought out “stalker romance Kindle Unlimited” and went for it. I’ve read a lot of romance in my lifetime, and this takes the prize for the most disturbing book I’ve ever read; that is saying something. I read dark romance and even the occasional monster romance, but what the fuck is this? I’m terrified that this came out of someone’s brain because who thinks of this? That’s all I’m saying. Both of these characters are out of their mind and unhinged. Normally, I would say, “Good for them,” but these two need to go to a mental hospital or get locked up because they are deeply disturbed. I am genuinely shocked at the content of this book and honestly grossed out that Blaze is that psychotic…he is truly insane, and not in a good way. I genuinely think this man should not be free in the world. He is not dark and mysterious in a book way; this is insanity, and Ren is fine with it because she is just as insane as he is. I am never one to judge characters because they all have their issues, but they are sick. ACTUALLY.

“She smells like death. Faintly sour. A sweetness locked inside of the harshest scents.

Are you all reading this as well? This was not the first or last time that Blaze said that Ren smelled like death, and at one point, she smelled like piss. Isn’t that what we all love to see in an FMC *note the sarcasm* this is so bad. I wasn’t even enjoying this book, but I didn’t want to DNF, so I kept going. I don’t think anyone should read this. Really…don’t. If you’re curious, I don’t think you truly want to read this. I regret it, honestly.

“There’s nothing better than a dead cunt. Freshly killed. Fuck—” He shouts, breaking the rhythm of his thrusts. “The only thing that would make it better is if I had been the one to kill you. Don’t you agree, little corpse? I could’ve killed you right when you hit that peak. That’s the best way to die, isn’t it? The climax to end all lives. You would’ve loved that; I can tell.”

Ren likes to take pleasure in wearing dead people’s clothes. Pause. Did you all process that? That’s not the worst of it. Blaze knows, and instead of calling her out, he is just as disturbed and pretended she is a dead body and fucked her. He knew she was alive. However, he seriously fuvked her and then blackmailed her and threatened to tell others that she was pleasing herself in dead people’s clothes, and he got off on it. Can you wrap your head around this because I still can’t? I truly don’t know what to make of this book.

“It’s simple,” he says. He tilts his head. “You want to be dead. I like torturing women. Let’s be honest; I like killing them too. It’s fun to fuck corpses, but you know, they don’t react quite the way the living do. And I haven’t been able to find a woman as satisfying to kill as my first. I’m changing my hunting criteria, I suppose. And that leads me to you.”

I think this quote wraps up the book. I hope this deters you from reading it because he is truly evil. He isn’t a vigilante either; he does it because he truly gets off on hurting women, and Ren was going to be the next person until he caught feelings for her. He did not care about her and just wanted to end her, but he got too close and didn’t feel like he was capable of killing her. It didn’t stop there; he did kill others after her because that’s who he is. This was truly the mind of a serial killer, and I didn’t like it there. It was terrible, and he is not a good person. It was so weird, and I can’t explain this book. To make it worse, his first victim was his mother, and he was fascinated with his first kill, so he was just a psycho with mommy issues. His background was tragic, but he killed his mom and then fucked her dead corpse over and over again. I am sick just thinking about this. Yes, she was horrible to him and she deserved jail time, but never that.

“Look at me,” Blaze growls, his voice so loud, his words vibrate in my chest. He pinches my lips shut, silencing those voices inside of my head. “I see what you’re doing, Ren. I see it in your eyes.” He slaps my face. “Don’t you dare go there. Leaving this place like you don’t belong to me. I took it from you, and you’re not getting it back. So just fucking stop.”

Blaze became obsessed with HIM being the one to end her life and didn’t want her to take matters into her own hands. Eventually, he didn’t want to kill her at all and was deeply upset that she attempted to end her own life. He felt he owned her, and her life became valuable to him. It was an odd shift from him volunteering to end her life to wanting to preserve it. This didn't make him a good person, nor did it mean he was less of a psychopath. Honestly, I don’t think this man could love her. He was just obsessed with having someone he could own and possess and treat as his own. He is disturbed, and I don’t care for him or her.

And maybe life is meaningless. Maybe there’s no concrete, meaningful reason for Blaze to love me, or for me to love Blaze. But I do. I love him, I love us, I love myself, and I love our life together. And he showed me how everything is possible.

CRICKETS. I don’t have anything good to say about this ending so I won’t say anything more.

I think I learned my lesson and I will DNF books when they start off bad. This is quite possibly the worst book I have read in my life.

If I could have given this book half a star, or no stars, I would have…absolutely horrible and disgusting in so many ways. Who even THINKS to write something like this, nonetheless CHOOSES to read it?? I only read it because it was for a traveling book group I’m in. But bleh. Only thing that slightly redeemed it was the way it ended.
